Try reinstalling Windows using a recovery drive.
Though, I had mine fail like this and I had to get it exchanged. It refused to boot again, recovery drive or not.

Can I download a Windows Surface recovery drive somewhere? I can't start so I can't create one.
When I want to boot from USB is the key combination:
power button then when I see the surface logo Volume button down?
Is thee any other key combinations to be aware of?

There's a specific key combo for booting to recovery, I don't remember it offhand but I'm sure you can find it if you search. It's probably reachable with just the hardware buttons on the tablet, but you may want a USB keyboard (especially if you don't have one of the covers) anyhow. Alternatively, return the tablet as DOA; they'll ship you a new one no problem.

i got the same problems, stuck on surface logo screen, i need that recover usb stick

Try powering on and holding the power button down for 8 seconds
Repeat several times
That has been reported to help sometimes (and run it on mains power)

So... I've tried to update my rom and I've done it. Didn't like the ROM and tried to change it.
soooo. I messed everything up. My magic can't boot (it stalls on the boot screen showing "HTC Magic") and most important, I can't enter fastboot to restore a working ROM
Any ideas on this one before I go to HTC Support?

can you not get to the mode pressing home and power.
from there you should be able to use adb push to send new update to sd card

nope. Every key combined with the power button just boots the device and show the "htc magic" logo. nothing more.
I had the same sort of thing once. I removed the battery and before I put it back, I already pressed the home-key as well. Then it went into fastboot mode after I put it back in. With this way I could sent a new update.zip to the phone, flash it and then it was working again
Hope this helps

Well, it's not hard to send the update.zip. I can use a microSD 2 USB and copied it that way.
By the way I think it's the "return" key to enter fastboot. Not "home".
Tried the battery-removal trick. Didn't work.
Take out your battery, hold the volume down button and put the battery back in whilst you're holding the volume down. This in theory should bring you to fastboot. Just keep holding the volume down until you reach the fastboot screen. If after you put the battery in, nothing happens, keep holding the volume down and press the power button...
Should work...

One other thing to try is to hold the two left most keys on the front of the phone (these are different depending on your phone brand) whilst holding power, this will take you to a recovery screen where perhaps you can do something from there?
I'm assuming you get to see a splash screen first and then you see the HTC Magic logo...

the 2 most left keys are the "answer" and "home" buttons. tried it. still getting the logo.
the phone vibrates and shows the logo...
Turn it in for repairs.

Well, I am exlcuding the green call button and the red end button (which you use to run on your phone), but if it's freezing at the logo where it vibrates, then there is a problem.
I had a similar thing, but I was able to boot my phone into fastboot/recovery with the battery trick.
My two left buttons on my device are the home button and the menu button. Try holding this down when you put the battery back in. Unfortunately, the situation doesn't sound too hopeful.

IMITO im7s Bricked

Hi!
Using fwdn I bricked my tablet. It wont even power on.
If I keep power button PC will detect the tablet by the USB port but if I release it it will disconnect from usb.
With power button pressed you can forward boot.img, recovery.img, etc. but when I release it it will disconect from USB. If I press the button after forwarding firmware it wont power on.
I think it it not 100% dead but I dont know what to do.
I guess the partitions are broken (internal filesystem).
Does anyone have an idea or a suggestion of what should I do? There is nothing else to loose here so we can experiment
Thank you!
I'm guessing this is similar to other things I've read where people flash with other images that isn't from the iM7. I did the same thing, but mine would just flash a quick second of the splash screen then the screen would be black.
Try this...plug your tablet in with the power adapter (might work with USB too). Then hold down the home button, press the power button but keep holding the home button for about 30 seconds. If you can get into the recovery screen you should be alright.
You can check this thread:
http://www.androidtablets.net/forum...imito-im7-market-restore-firmware-update.html
I've been researching for days now to get this one I got off craigslist to work right (still not 100%) but it at least boots up.
Did you guys get an answer to this issue yet? I tried upgrading my iMito7 and completely bricked it. the damn thing won't even power on. I'm experiencing the exact same issue. The keys no longer function, the screen won't power up yet the light in the back is green indicating that it's fully charged.
trashed it

Serious Issue with NVflash or Gtablet

Well I was screwing around with my gtab, trying to put honeycomb on it, (I was on cyanogenmod) and I knew that I needed to put build 4349 on it. Unfortunately, I put that build on it, and installed my rom, but it didn't work. I decided to do the exact same thing over again, to see if it worked the second time. Halfway through the process, while restarting my gtablet, I had a serious problem. My gtablet will turn on after holding down the power button for about 30 seconds, but the screen is completely black and blank. Also, if I hit the (+) button, it says it will boot a recovery image, but it never does. If I hit the (-) to put it in APX mode for a NVflash, it simply turns off.
PLEASE, I have no idea what to do, because I really don't know what is going on with my tablet. I am just trying to put a honeycomb rom on it, but it seems I have completely screwed it up.
To put it straight: It won't go into APX mode
The screen is supposed to go black and blank when you start up in APX mode. Plug it into your computer and check to see if it is or not.
yea but supposedly it shows the viewsonic logo for a second. Mine when I hit the power button and hold the minus and just hit the power button are both the same. Also, I plug it in and nothing happens.
I tried holding the power for 15 seconds, nothing, if I hit the power for about 5 seconds it turns on that blank screen, if I hit + it says recovery key detected and booting recovery, but nothing happens after that
the black screen is the APX screen, it is blank and black.
You don't see an android symbol first.
my computer never says anything about a tablet without drivers or anything as stated in all guides
It's not unusual for the VS Birds splash screen to get lost during flashing operations that go bad. You also might not get a missing driver message for a number of reasons (especially if the driver isn't missing). So...
If the splash screen is missing, when you turn the tablet on while holding the volume down key the backlight should come on momentarily then the screen will go black. If that happens then you are in APX mode. If you have a linux box handy you can plug it into that and issue an "lsusb" command in a terminal window to verify that. There might be an equivalent for windows but I don't use it so I can't tell you what it would be.
If you are really having that much trouble with it I'd be happy to look at it for you if you cover shipping.

[Q] Help ! phone wont turn on HTC ONE S

I wanted to install cynagoenmod so
1. I unlocked bootloader using HTC dev
2. I flashed cwm recovery
3. I flashed boot.img extracted from the cynagoenmod release
it was stuck in the boot-up at the HTC logo with the disclaimer text "this build is meant for developers....."
I had to run an errand so I left it as is.
when I got back it wouldn't turn on
wont blink the soft-keys after holding the power button for 10 seconds
wont boot into bootloader when holding both the vol- and power button
when connected to the charger the LED stays on orange for about a minute and turns off
only response it does a flash of white (like this like when u close the TV effect ) after holding the power button for 20 seconds
any advice would be welcome
Just keep holding the power button and also the volume down button for 20-30 seconds. It should pop into HBOOT.
If you see the screen flashing white that should mean it isn't hard bricked.

That's strange. Does your PC detect it when you connect via USB?
Plug it in and if nothing happens, press/hold all three buttons in different combinations and sequences and hopefully something should happen.

[Q] tablet won't turn off for replacing digitizer

Hi,
My tf300t got its screen cracked so touch screen is non functional.
I'm trying to turn it off so I can open the case, but it always reboots no matter what I try!
Tried long pressing the power button for 30 seconds but it always reboot after 8 seconds.
Any suggestions? I don't want to open it up while it's on .
Can I shut it down from fastboot mode?

I remember there was a manual Power off option in TWRP (idk if it is still there). Have you tried that?

I have the stock bootloader - it says
Code:
"Adroid cardhu-user bootloader (1.00 e) released by "WW_epad_10.4.2.9-20120809" A03
I'm inclined against flashing a bootloader (only as last resort).
I am able to get into fastboot and issue fastboot commands. will that help?
"fastboot reboot" only reboots..
by the way, the device is still locked (getvar returns "unlocked: no")..

How did you turn it off if the touchscreen wasn't working? By pressing the power button would cause it to reboot endlessly. If you don't have a dock or adapter to power off properly, one thing I did before was to click the reset button (through the hole below the SD card slot) and press the power button simultaneously, then keep holding the power button for 10 seconds after releasing the reset. It did turn off the tab completely. Failing that, just pop off the back cover and turn off the service switch. The cover is not connected to anything electronic so it's ok. That'd cut off the current to the tab. It can be done, just be careful.

I didn't turn it off, that's the problem.. I got it yesterday from a guy after his screen cracked.
he gave it to me turned on and I want to replace the screen, so the only thing I can use are the hard buttons.
I only have the power adapter + usb cable.
are you sure about that reset button thing?
EDIT: found info about the "service switch": http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46159071&postcount=5
EDIT2: did it! thanks graphdarnell!!
now moving to step 2 - ordering a replacement digitizer..
