[Q] HTC Sensation No data? - HTC Sensation

hi everyone, me and my girlfriend both have an HTC sensation with android 4.0.3, software number 3.32.168.52
the problem is that both phones very often loose their mobile data until they are rebooted, and even sometimes the problem comes back fast...
the icon for 3G / H still appears, and changes between sometimes, but both arrows below them stop blinking, resulting in no mobile data, no browser , no google talk, no mails.
if i connect to some wifi im good.
My HTC sensation is unlocked, rooted and all garbage out, but my girlfriend's is vanilla.
Is this some android 4.0.3 bug? my late LG P500 could go weeks without a reboot and no problems what so ever...
I bought a phone that's almost a computer not some cheap calls/sms phone and really use my mobile data.......

As yours is rooted, try getting 'getril' app from the market. Perhaps the radio fw does not match the RIL files?
Also this may happen in 'vanilla' if the phone was made for a different market. Different operators and counties use slightly different channels/freqs and thus the radio should fit the network.
What operator are you on?

hi, thanks for the help, this phone was bought from the operator im currently in Vodafone Portugal. The rom was full of portuguese bloatware which i removed, but even if i messed up something then my girlfriends phone which is also an HTC sensation without any changes should behave...which it doesn't...
just had to reboot my phone to have it working for about 5 minutes and losing data after..
also i notice a lot of 403 501 and other http codes that never happened in my LG P500 android 2.35
even did change to dolphin browser but still nothing....
EDIT:
got getril, says ril/baseband doesnt match, also after i give SU permissions, says it doesnt have them.

If getril say it does not match that might indicate a problem. You can find my configuration at my signature, together with the thread with all the ril files. You can try changing the ril so it would match the radio.
Su should have worked... That's.. weird

Decided to go onto the markeylt to have a look for some alps as you do when I noticed the now on the market where it has the 3 short cut options apps games and my apps now shoes apps games and vodafone.... On there is a bunch of apps they reccomend, apps I already know about and don't use because I don't want to so I was a little annoyed to see the my apps button removed

I have a thread open about this. Restart the phone and it goes back to normal. I don't think we were supposed to see this yet. I'm expecting it to become permanent in the future, perhaps to coincide with a ROM update.

Fyi, my unbranded Sensation has HTC in the Market, instead of Vodafone!
Regards,
Dave
Yeah, seems OEMs/Operators are starting to link into the apps more
Restarted phone branding is still there, yet maybe with the post above having htc this is staying regardless I want my apps back lol

It is there, Menu>My Apps
Did you restart or shutdown? Shutdown will not make any difference

Unbranded handsets still say 'HTC' instead of My Apps - looks like it's going no matter what

Ive just noticed an app in my app drawer called Vodafone Rescue. Im sure it wasnt there before. As anyone else got this?
Found its description HERE.
I think it can be uninstalled but im sure ive never noticed that before.
yea you are right this wasnt there before, I noticed this on my first sensation when I sent it back and got a new one it wasnt there, it appeared when I had to restart my phone, the Vodafone Branding came on the market and the Rescue service also appeared.
I assume its remote access if you are having problems, voda can take controle of your phone and sort any issues.
Can it be related to which SIM card you have in your phone? I have a Vodafone branded Sensation but still with the SIM card of my current operator (going to Vodafone in a month) and in the market it still says My Apps.
I would assume that vodafone send down some form of 'Ping' at some point that adds Vodafone Rescue and changes the market menu link, but I cant be 100% sure, but I would assume it has something to do with the sim
Unbranded FW now says 'HTC' instead of My Apps but you can still get it by going Menu>My Apps
cheers eddie, i feel the removal of apps on android is a drawn out task, I know using launcher pro enables you to drag and drop apps inot the bin to uninstall but I would think this should be a standard feature
Just had this chat with Htc:
I do have rescue but i can't see any changes to the market, and i have restarted phone recently.... Hmmm....
the quicker we get s-off with perma root, the better. I dont like how vodafone have the ability and right to install their crap without permission or warning, on a device I own and that I have paid for.
Custom unbranded rom please!

[Q] Data connectivity with no signal

I posted a thread about how unlocking my European Sensation with Method 2 from the development forum didn't work. I've found something a lot weirder, though.
My phone claims to have no signal, and any call attempts fail. However, after wiping my phone and going to the network settings with no wifi connected, I noticed it said that mobile data was connected. Thinking this was a bug, I opened the browser, and, lo and behold, websites loaded.
This was despite the signal indicator showing an X, the lockscreen claiming no signal and no H symbol in my notification bar.
I haven't heard of anything like this at all. Any idea what's going on?

First thing to do is to get s-off, otherwise you won't be able to flash anything. Just look for revolution s-off. There are enough manuals floating around to help you with that.
Next step would be to flash a custom ROM and the appropriate radio. Personally I am using ARHD 3.6.1 from Mike1986 because it is fast, stable and mike gives good support. If you look in his thread you will find all the info you need in the FAQ section in the first post. however there are many similar ROMS you can choose from. The procedure is the same for all of them.

If you follow this procedure you should be ok.

[Q] Signal low, need help.

Hey guys, my name is Steve I am a new member to XDA developers and I have the T-mobile HTC Sensation 4G, Android Version: 2.3.5, HTC Sense Version: 3.5, and i also put a ROM on it, the Digitalized_0.7, Unlocked. My current service provider is AT&T I only have 3G network with them now, so ever since I got the HTC Sensation after I rooted and unlocked the signal was poor, usually I get 2 maybe 3 bars Max. So do you guys have any idea how to fix this problem? If you do please let me know or give me info on how to fix.
Thanks,
Steve
I would suggest a different radio. There is a thread above yours about radios. Go check it out.

I Installed the new one and my phone keeps on soft rebooting itself after a few minutes. Don't know whats going on but, I guess i'll have to try them all??

No cellular data

Ok, after asking on various Rom threads to no avail I'm making a topic about it seeing as I'm not alone on this one...
I seem to have lost all cellular data. When I turn on mobile data I keep getting ' connection failed due to incorrect apn settings'
I have flashed different roms, re flashed current viper Rom, factory reset, full wiped, reset apn to default settings, even got a new sim from my service provider. My apn settings are correct, as have been confirmed by my service provider, I've updated radio and firmware...and still no mobile data.
Does anyone have the faintest idea what's going on?
Thanks guys.

I'm running viper too and when I upgraded to recommended radio this happened to me. I lost all data connection ! To restore my data I used one of the five(I believe it's 5) generic ics radio and matching ril. I got lucky first one I tried worked for me! I'm not exactly sure of your situation but it sounds very similar to what happened to me... You might want to try the generic ics radio with matching ril.it restored my data right away. You will have to do some searching to find it. But it's there. This just happened to me last week. I really hope this helps you! It worked for me... Best of luck.

this problem seems similar to the problem i faced recently ..i would have complete signal ..but no data
in my case ..if i change the network mode to GSM only ..i used to get Edge
the thing which caused this problem in my case is... loose sim ..yes the sim is loose ..and i kept a paper on top of sim to make it fit tight ...and voila problem solved ...just try this ..it might work
:fingers-crossed:
also check in phone testing that you are st to WCDMA preferred
from key pad *#*#4636#*#* phone settings - look for the only drop down box - hit it choose WCMDA preffered then home
I even lock on wdcma only by pressing *#*#4636#*#* and go to phone information press your current channel and another menu will come up, choose your desired channel from there then press refresh. My device kept going to edge sand it drove me crazy so I locked on wdcma only
And had no problem ever since. I now stay on H. I'm sure it depends on your area also but I've never lost signal doing it that way.

Have you tried using a different Rom? Can you get into your boot loader? If so perhaps try wiping and reinstalling a new Rom if problem persists try another radio and ril. I lost data connection once from flashing a recommended radio for a certain Rom, I restored my connection by finding a generic ICS radio/ril file. I first flashed radio, then matching ril and my data connection returned. You can give this a try before giving up. Use the generic ICS radio /ril combo as they are more apt to work easily. Sometimes it takes trying a few to get the connection correct for your area. I really hope this works for you! It worked for me when my data connection was wiped. I'm hoping it's a simple fix like this. If this does not work the problem MUST be internal. But do give it a try! It very well could work. I wish you the best! Also when getting radio don't forget the ril. Best wishes! Hoping this works for you!
