[Q] Note 10.1 GT-N8013 Charging and firmware issues - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there I need a little help. I recently got a Note 10.1 and I flashed Redemption Rom with CWM. Seemed to work just great until yesterday I noticed that it does not charge when plugged into the wall or a computer. If I plug it into the computer it will recognize it and I can transfer files etc, but it doesn't charge. Also when the charger is plugged in the screen acts funny most things are unresponsive to touch, when the screen is locked and charger plugged in I can't even unlock it. I can poke the screen but not unlock. If I unplug the charger it works just fine.
Has anyone experienced this problem with the GT-N8013 before or have any suggestions? My initial thought was to go back to stock firmware and see what happens, but with only 20% battery power I am scared I may not have enough. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Well I have been messing with it a little while at work here and I think the base of the charger has gone bad. If I use the base from my Samsung phone and plug the USB cord from the 10.1 to that it will acknowledge that I plugged it into the wall but a red X will appear over the battery icon. I powered it down and plugged it in and nothing happened right away, then I just let it sit and now I notice that the battery/charging animation appears and from what I can tell it appears to be charging. I will power it on after a while and see what it says for %.

Figured it out, it was the wall adapter, turns out the outlet I plug it into was faulty and it fried the charger.

I picked mine up on Thursday and charged it to 100% with the supplied charger and cable, installed the 4.1 system update and used it throughout the following day watching video and general playing. I had it plugged in whilst I was using it and noticed it discharging, odd I thought as it should at least have maintained its charge but after my battery level dropped to 19% on that evening I turned it off completely and left it overnight, this morning it had only charged a further 20%. It has to be a firmware issue as its the only thing thats changed since I first charged it fully without any issues (first charge on 4.0 took approx 3 hours from unboxing).

It needs a 5 volt 2.O Amp Charger to charge properly. IF the adaptor that plugs to the wall isn't putting out enough power it won't work properly. Also could be a bad wire.

Help! Phone Bricked or hardware error?

Hello all!
I bought the S3 last weekend, 11/4 - flashed AOKP JB Milestone 1 with the kernel that AOKP comes with (Faux, I think?), everything was smooth til today. I had my S3 plugged into my car charger, I was on a call, bluetooth on, etc.. I get out of the car and unplug the phone from its charger and it just shuts off. I'm unable to turn it on, no charging mode, no download mode, no recovery. Absolutely no sign of life. Not sure if this phone is defective or something sporadically happened with the Rom. Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks!
Also, to update on this. I have a surge protector with usb ports on it. The l.e.d. light on the charger turns on when it is charging any device. However, it does not turn on with the S3, but does turn on with a Droid x2.

[Q] I'm having a few problems with a VZW Galaxy S3 I just got.

I recently received a Galaxy S3 from a friend, and I'm loving it save for a few problems. First, charging is just not reliable. I plug in the phone to a wall adapter and it won't charge. Sometime, unplugging and replugging works, but only sometimes. I've used 3 different wall adapters and wires. Also when it does charge it will always have a red X on the battery icon and it will always just randomly stop charging at different times into the charge. Next, my computer won't recognize it. I installed the drivers but my computer always says driver installation failed for some reason (same with my laptop). This is really inconvenient because if I somehow brick my phone while experimenting, I can't connect to ODIN. Lastly, I was just wondering if the 4.4.2 Verizon variant had a bootloader unlock as I want to flash CM 11.0. If any of you guys know why my phone's charging is so weird, please tell me as this is the most important issue. Thanks in advance!

My gf had the same issue when she updated to 4.4.2 with the battery charging issue. As far as a bootloader unlock your stuck on 4.4.2 and your only options are a few BL locked TW(Touchwiz) roms. You can't downgrade unless you want to hard brick the phone.
As far as the charging problem it sounds like the charging port on the phone might be loose or needs replacing. You do have one option for downgrading which is a JTAG repair which would revert it back to 4.1.2 and you'd have to send your phone out for that and the price is $50, anymore questions feel free to ask

Slow charging after update

My phone is taking forever to charge since yesterday, and the only thing that changed was I updated to COI5. Was never rooted. My phone has been on the charger for 4 hours and is 63%. I've tried different chargers and power bricks, all which worked fine yesterday. I would get a full charge in under 2 hours. My current time to full from 63% is 2 hours 13 minutes.
Anyone else noticing this after update?
Same happening for me, actually. I noticed after last week's T-Mobile update that my phone doesn't really fast charge.
Are you talking about the 30mb update?
Whatever OTA update I got yesterday for Samsung Pay

Yes, I have.
When you plug it in, make sure it say fast charging. I noticed that it sometimes shows cable charging, I then replug it until it say fast charging.

I'll have to try that Roger, as I've noticed the same thing. Really slow to charge now, so perhaps I needed to reseat the cable. On a positive note, I tried Samsung Pay at PetSmart today, and have to admit, I was very, very impressed.
After the update i noticed i have to plug ,unplug , replug for fast charging to work as well
I heard the same problem. it was an app that i installed which was causing that problem. problem solved after installing all my apps.

I'm having this same problem and it's driving me nuts...
From my troubleshooting I found it to be the Samsung charger. Every Samsung micro USB cable including the one that came with the phone. If I use any other micro USB it charges fast. Any Qualcomm fast charge brick works better than the Samsung brick as well. All the combinations I tried that is what I found. Use a moto quick charge brick and any micro USB cable. It seems that whatever update was sent out only let's us charge through USB 1.0 amp and after 3 or more tries fast charge with the Samsung cable and adapter. Not sure how or why that was done, but every other cable charges 2.0 amp and fast charge on first try
Weird my note 5 fast charging started acting up as well. Also my phone somehow went into factory mode while it was off all I did was plugged in the charger too. Been having a lot of issues with the Note 5, exchanged once already now my new phone is having the same issues still.
Im also having issues with fast charging. this is really pissing me off....

Weird Charging Issue with Tab 2, 10.1

I rooted my tab and installed Android 6. After I took those steps, I noticed that it wouldn't charge unless it was powered off even though the charging icon indicated that it was charging when it was powered on. Then I stumbled on something that said that if you just barely connected the charging wire to the charger that that would help solve the problem. See http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...-galaxy-tab-2-wont-charge-when-powered-2.html For some reason, this works and I don't know why. Does anyone have any ideas? (Again, when it was totally powered off, it charged fine.

Consider replacing your charging wire and brick. That happened to me way back and I'm glad i don't have to adjust the wire to get it working.
Lightracer,
Thanks for your response. However, my Tab 2 is my backup Tablet, and the charging cord is good enough for me. I am curious as to why barely inserting the wire into the charger causes the Tab 2 to charge correctly. Simply makes no sense, unless a good number of charging cords have the same defects. Also, what is weird to me is that my Tab 2 charges correctly when it is powered off.

Well the answer to this weird issue might seem to be from a software related one. since the same cable charges the tab while it's off. Right?
but in my experience from all the experiments I have done, this issue is solved only by changing the cable or the whole charger or consider replacing the battery(Root cause of your issue).
a battery near it's end would have all sort of weird behaviour.
it will deplete if using while charging, would go from 100 to 5 percent if you restart, then start going up again if left untouched without charging. so there you are!
hope this would make things clear to you now.
