is thare a zune alternative? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

is thare a zune alternative? I cant get my phone to sync with zune no matter how hard i try is thare any other software i can use to put videos on my phone and get pictures off?

You can use skydrive.

Look for "Touchxperience", it's supposed to be an alternative manager for WP7 phones. I'm not really into it but I had to write some news about it and they were advertising it as an "alternative zune"

Is that a joke?
1- you don't have a wp7 device, you have a Frankenstein's monster, with wp7 installed on it, which is cool after all.:good:
2- there isn't an alternative, who would want it? Zune is pretty good at it, I thought about finding an alternative too, but discarded it after found NOTHING.
3- Even when there's no alternative, is just a matter of understanding Zune, my problem was the order of the songs, guess what? Zune can create and manage the playlists on the phone, you don't have to use Zune on your desktop (like me), you can use whatever player you want like Winamp and VLC (like me).
Play with Zune a little, you'll find that is better that some software out there that could be qualified as "TRASH music manager", *cough* iTunes *cough*
Just give Zune a little run test... OK?
Regards

Guys! Zune drivers - is a transport for WP like ActiveSync was for WM. And it has NO alternative. If Zune is not working to provide these features - nothing will help you.

I Hate Activesync. Hate. It. Device simply not connecting

XDA Exec, all of a sudden, it no longer connects.
"Activesync cannot connect to the windows mobile powered device. To troubleshoot the problem, click OK."
Uninstalled AS, Downloaded 4.2 AS, switched USB port, disabled firewall and antivirus, nothing works.
I'd hate to have to wipe my device, coz it's a pain to get it back to normal, coz I don't have any fancy backup solutions. Also have Push Email running on it, but I suppose that could be be re-setup manually.
It's been syncing happily for ages over the air, and I connect it basically only to allow me to install programs. Which I can't do now.
P. O. S. Software.
Any ideas?

Ah, not to worry, did a hard reset, and it connects now. The fact that that's what fixed it, sucks.
Reinstalling O2, push email settings now, and all my proggies...
Use a nokia PC Suite then say you don't like active sync, I hate microsofts products but I love them or I need them, one or the other, but this is a perfect example, I have a Nokia 9300 and fully love the phone but can't use it because the Nokia PC Suite is so bad, it reformats excel files as they are transfered from the computer and back and that only one example.

Previous version of windows mobile used to reformat as well, currnt version doesn't. But still, not everything trasnfers across perfectly in excel or word.
I think anything sold by microsoft is like drugs, we all hate it because its so unrealiable but when we use it it keeps us hooked.

iTunes OTA?

Hey, not too sure if it was in the "beyond froyo" section - but i'm pretty sure Froyo was supposed to be able to sync music OTA, can't seem to find the option though.
Anyone found a solution to this one?

The streaming capabilities are already in the OS, it came along with the cloud to phone notifications. The software is not done yet. Simplify Media is the company in charge of the streaming software. On their blog it says that they pulled their iPhone and desktop apps last month and that they will support existing accounts for at least 3 months. Based on that, I would guess we'll see the software mid-summer, probably around the iPhone launch.

This seems to be what everyone is saying in the other threads and although DoubleTwist syncs well with the Nexus One and on Mac has a built in Market, their Android apps isn't out yet which means no streaming which is what everyone is asking for. So unless I'm mistaken, either way you're going to have to wait to stream.

WP7 WE want our Media Freedom Back.

Dear WP7 Where is the multimedia freedom of Windows mobile 6.5
While I love the new look and feel of WP7, I also long for the ease of use that WM6.5 provided. I use to simply drag and drop a film or sound track of varied format to my mobile device. Now I have to go through the lengthy process of Zune conversion.
I hope that I am not alone in thinking that Microsoft needs to loosen the noose, and let us - the users deiced what format we want our multimedia to be in.
You'll see, in a few hours the whole Apple-fraction will be here to get rid off iTunes.

I love my HD2 but wish I could just do what I need to do with it.
Zune software is so much easier for me, hell all I have to do is be on the same wifi network as my PC and it automatically syncs any music and pics I want it to. I will likely be the first and one of few to say that I don't want it, I don't want access to anything extra, there is no need to hack this OS so I don't need access to the file system. This device is amazing as is.

I honestly thought I would mind being "locked" in that I can't drag and drop media of any file type to my device, but to be honest, I could care less. I mean it kills some media trying to convert some mkvs to mp4, but even in a google, most files I find are mp4 anyway (like some extra lectures)
Zune is actually really good for what it does and is far better than tcpmp and players of the like. I actually don't see it as being told what to do on my mobile.
I can't play a mkv or avi? So what. I'll just pop in an mp4 that can play.
I just love the circuitous argument though. It was the same thing winmo users told apple users...
You have to admit, having to be connected to a charger to wireless sync sucks.

[Q] Anyone have Zune on multiple computers?

So I have Zune on three different computers and I am wondering for the apps does it matter if I use the same computer for apps since they are linked to my live account anyway?
I know the music is source dependant for syncing/changing/removing in regards to the computers. Is it the same for apps even though they are linked to a live account?
Thanks anyone.
Does not matter as you can download it again from Marketplace.
However its good idea to buy and transfer apps from Zune to Windows Phone from only one computer which will come handy when it comes to restore.
But I doubt if anybody is using Zune to Download Apps
nope... you can use zune on many computer to download apps, you can also do it from website without zune (and they magically appear on the phone)
You have access to all your apps online, so not really a big deal.

If not in the US, just go to www.windowsphone.com and navigate to your account.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I will probably start to get apps in the next few days, the phone however will probably be a couple weeks still.

[Q] Syncing andoid with itunes (with no computer?)

I realize this might be more of an apple question but i feel like ive already searched to the ends of the interweb on apple forums and gotten nowhere and when i ask a question over there the only answer i seem to get is "shouldve bought an ipad"... So I'm wondering if there is a way to sync an itunes library with an android device without a computer? As far as i know, all of the common apps out there (doubletwist, airbind, etc) need to be set up on a computer first. Im trying to bypass this step with my little brothers iphone 5 and a rooted android tablet with ICS. I bouht him the tablet for xmas, but decided to give it to him early when his laptop was stolen earlier this week. He doesnt live near me or i would let him use my laptop to sync with his itunes. Is this even possible? Or will he need to find a computer? Please help!!!
There's doubleTwist player on Play Store which I've heard is pretty awesome at syncing iTunes- all for free. If you dkm't need a whole new player then there's quite a few other apps on market, not sure how reliable they are though...
Soryuu, thanks for the reply. My understanding is that you still need a mac or Windows computer to set up doubletwist I initially? Or am I wrong? Can I do this with just an iPhone and an android device??
Edit: Yeah, you need a desktop to work doubleTwist/Airsync and so on.
An iPhone and an Android device?
I don't think there's any easy solution to this except using cloud storage like Google Drive or something- which would be slow enough on its own- and even then, depending on how many songs you have it'd be a tediously slow process downloading them onto the tablet. If you are using cloud storage... I've never used iPhones so I don't know but can they make zips out of files? If you can that may make it slightly easier- zip the music up (if possible), upload to the cloud and then download it as one package.
There is this app that seems to work like NFC: http://m.wikihow.com/Use-Bump-Between-an-iPhone-and-Android
But 1.) Not sure about tablets- I assume so if its that popular of an app but there was no mention and
2.) Apparently its semi-functional according to some of the reviews I've seen.
I guess you could try it out and see what happens.
Other than that I don't think there's much else...
