[APP][1.6+][ROOT] WiFi Pass Recovery & Backup (& Restore) 3.0 - Android Apps and Games

Hello android community,
I would like to introduce everybody here WiFi Pass Recovery & Backup, my first own android app.
This application lists alphabetically all wireless passwords stored on your android device.
Do you really wanna know why I created this app? When I have friends visiting me at my home, I need to spell my WiFi password to them letter by letter, and believe me, is not short! And I change my password frequently!
Now I just need to send a SMS or create a QR Code in that moment. See how simple is that:

Later, I thought that it can be very useful to have Backup and Restore options. And why?
Me and some of you like to change some system settings, so is important make backup of WiFi settings before mess with wpa_supplicant files to later restore everything if something goes wrong.
:good: Here is the download link (Google Play): h**ps://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ryanamaral.wifi.passwords
All suggestions/questions are always welcome.
I hope you really like the app like I do!
Best Regards,
Ryan Amaral

Nice!
Really clean and neat app, does the job! Gratz for the developer++

I have the same issue as at least one reviewer on the Play Store, that restoring a backup made on the same device from the same or another ROM completely breaks wifi. Wifi won't even turn on after this app's "restore" operation, it just lists an error state in Settings.
Thankfully, I have a recent nandroid to return to, but this is a major flaw that many users may not be expecting. If there's no workaround, or even a way to "reset" wifi on the device without a nandroid or re-flashing from scratch, this should definitely be listed as a limitation in the Play Store description.
Edit: Apparently, deleting wpa_supplicant.conf gets wifi back working, but obviously without any saved network configurations. This can also be done through the app's "reset wifi" option. At least the backed up passwords are still readable in the backup file (opened as plain text), but no easy way to restore them.
Strangely, the wpa_supplicant file shows as 0.00 bytes in Root Browser, cannot be opened even as plain text, and any file copied to the same directory shows the same traits. I don't know if this behavior is limited to Cyanogenmod, but it seems to be the root of the problem. Maybe there's some sort of weird redirection going on in the OS to another file elsewhere?

Version 3.1 from the Play Store seems to have fixed my issue. There are now 2 restore methods, I chose #2 to be safe & it seemed to work. Initially after restoring, wifi worked but wouldn't connect to any of the restored SSIDs until I clicked on the desired one & chose "connect". I suspect I'll have to do that for each of them individually, but after that, all seems well. Thanks Ryan, this is now one of my "must have" apps.

Wifi is not working now

so what did you do, in order to work your wifi?

Just installed this horrible app and WiFi is not working at all after backing up and restoring. WiFi reset didn't help.
Is there any solution to bring back my WiFi to life?

I have same issue on my Samsung Galaxy S6.. just updated to marshmallow and wanted to restore all my wifi passwords, but wifi doesn't work at all now.
@flamelcanto, can you clarify please what exactly you did? I didn't get what exactly you copied and where..
I tried to delete /data/misc/wifi/wpa_suplicant.conf (with a backup of course), seems it was recreated after reboot, but wifi doesn't turn on anyway.

please fix my wifi.. i cannot even turn on wifi after using the restore function with this app...

Help
i have the same probleme . wifi does not work after restoring using this app , tried deleting\renaming wpa_supplicant and wpa_supplicant.conf but still no luck , i think these files are damaged i need original files to replace in systeme/bin , systeme/etc/wifi and Data/misc/wifi, if someone can send me these files ill be thankful

Just go to system/bin/ and change wpa_suplicant permissions to executable and reboot and it will work.

Hello, Ryan Amaral!
Thanx a lot for your application! :good: But it's suddenly disapire from Google Play :crying:
Would you be so kind as public .apk here for your application's users?

I wonder why this app disappeared. Anyways, since I backed up the app, and if you still need it, here is the apk: https://cl.ly/0H1H0B023b1Y (I hope it is ok with the developer Ryan Amaral to share this link).

Froyo for Droid

http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/motorola-droid/2477-download-froyo-2-2-your-motorola-droid.html
It's been done. I've been struggling with MD5 errors, so I have no experience to share yet.
I have been running Froyo on my Droid since yesterday. I was using a Jrummy remix rom prior to Froyo. Froyo is everything an Android owner can ask in a rom. It is extremely fast. I have set record scores with Quadrant(1464), Link(18.03mflops). The only draw back is the rom i was using previously had apps2sd and I was able to save all of my apps on my sd card and I did not use any phone memory. Froyo has this installed however the developers of the apps have to enable the ability to save apps2sd. Therefore, I had to severly cut back on all the apps I had loaded, but for the speed of the phone it is all worth it.
Developer Pete Alfonso is working on a Froyo version of Bugless Beast. Petes roms always bring the joy. More info;
http://alldroid.org/tabid/62/g/posts/m/1433/Froyo-Bugless-Beast-Info.aspx#post1433
Big reason I want Froyo up and running is the Bluetooth voicedial support. Unless we can somehow get it ported over from the Milestone...? That's my only complaint with 2.1. P3 kernels give me speed AND battery life on 2.1 so...

good thing I just got a moto droid from a former employee sent in. I cannot wait to give froyo a try (until I can get root on my incredible )
Titanium Backup will let you now load from sd
was wondering if anyone has had any problems installing this back up. Im using chmod recovery and i cant get past the error cant flash boot img. I would greatly appreciate any input.
Um, if I do this will I lose all my apps and such? And it says you loose wifi, do you actually loose the ability to use wifi?
Nevermind, im an idiot...

You are wiping the phone, so everything on the phone is gone. Google should be backing up your info though (you have it checked in your system right?). Contacts are stored in Gmail, so those are safe.
WIFI was edited out of the initial release because it had the info of the developer/employee who owned this Release Candidate and they didn't want that getting back to their employer and costing them their job.
New kernals have been released allowing for overclocked speeds (up to 1200mhz) and Wifi.
I used Titanium Backup and restored my apps that way (because some have data that I've configured and didn't want to reconfigure) but after booting the first time in to 2.2 my phone was dog slow....I noticed it was re-downloading everything automatically that I had downloaded from the market on 2.1. After it fully synced it was flying.
Quadrant benchmark score of 758 @ 1200mhz on OS 2.1
Quadrant benchmark score of 1573 @ 1200mhz on OS 2.2
Do you have to reactivate your phone? And also my phone is unrooted, so I can't use titanium

if your phone is unrooted then you cant even flash this...
Ah, I was thinking it was a bit odd that nothing mentioned you needed your Droid to be rooted, I must have missed something... Anyway, I know you need to reactivate your phone to root it, and I've heard you just need to dial a number and select the first option, but one of my friends said they had to go through a ton of stuff to reactivate their phones. What exactly do you have to do?
Also, would Astro work fine for a backup program?
Been running it for two days now and loving the speed. The baseband is out. It requires you reactivate your phone which is as easy as dialing #228. I haven't loaded the newest baseband but will most likely do it tomorrow. Quadrant scores are insane. Still waiting for Jake's kernel for Froyo. I love being rooted
Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk
You do not have to reactivate your phone after root. You do have to reactivate your phone after doing a baseband upgrade.
Astro will backup your apps but it does not restore the market links....so you don't get "update available" when in the market, so you will have to download each app.
Root is getting Superuser access to your phone, kind of like having the admin password to your computer. Changing out Roms, adding themes, etc...is stuff you can do after you gain root.
As for reactivating.....if your account is fine then it's just a matter of pressing "Activate" as presented to you and the pressing "1" and waiting.......until you hear "your phone has been successfully activated, goodbye".
Otherwise it's just dialing *228 then pressing "1".

Back My Tones Premium
(Free)
Market Link
*UPDATE 1.3*
- Premium version features are now free: backup and restore your phone ringtone as well as contact ringtones, clear all ringtones with one click.
- Various bug/crash fixes.
*UPDATE 1.2*
- Improved restore and backup method yet again, now 100% accurate.
- Note that if you change a contact's name after you make a backup, you will have to make the backup again, or else that contact will not be restored.
- Please make new backups with this version. Old backups will use older restoration methods and are not guaranteed to work properly under certain circumstances.
- Please re-backup your data after installing the update for the changes to take effect.
*UPDATE 1.1*
- Now using a better restore and backup method (through file names) to ensure compatibility when replacing ROMs that re-assign media URIs.
- Smaller file by 600KB!
- Please re-backup your data after installing the update for the changes to take effect.
Did you ever update your ROM or made a hard reset, but then realized all of your custom contact ringtone settings were lost? Well not anymore!
Back My Tones offers a comprehensive and easy to use tool to create and manage backups of your custom ringtone settings and restore them with a click of a button!
The process is easy and takes no more than a few seconds to backup your settings and save you serious headaches.
If you liked this app, look for a premium version in the coming days which will feature backing up and restoring the default phone ringtone as well, among other features (75 cents).
Details:
========
Your ringtone settings for all of your contacts are saved on your SD card and can be retrieved even after you remove the application or replace your ROM.
*NOTE this application does NOT create backups of the ringtone files themselves. If a ringtone's file was deleted from the phone will the file itself will NOT be restored through usage of this app.

Fixed the max SDK to support android 2.3.3... if you couldn't see the app before try again now.
Now, this is a great idea
Great thanks for this app very usefull !
nice! this has been a definite problem. thanks
Does this, by any chance, back up custom notification settings for apps as well, or just ringtones?
(If no apps, well, yeah. Future suggestion. ;+) )
Good concept. But, in cases like my intended use it falls short. My system had to do a rebuild of the media db, which caused the id's to change, the tones did not change names, but 36 was no longer 36. I knew your app wasn't goingto work when I looked at the file it created and saw the id's instead of proper filenames. Now, I am pretty sure in my situation there isn't a whole lot that could be done, so I ended up fixing all my tones myself. Just wanted to post this for anyone else who may have a similar desire from it. Unfortunately, one of the recent changes in CM caused the UID for the mediascanner to change thus revuilding the media db and screweing all my tones up.
Nice app though, for people sticking to the same ROM version (or without significant changes to the mediascanner) this should work nicely.

Too late for me, already redid all my set tones manually. But, if this can help other people, I'm glad to have pointed this method out.
oh well, sorry you had to re set your tones lol... I hope no more people will have to do this ever again
and thanks for pointing this out, while developing the app this possible complication did pop up at some point but after testing it and seeing it working I assumed the URIs were a constant thing.
Thanks for app, very useful!
Doesn't work on Nexus S - CM7.0.3. Backup creation failed. Any clue?
Anyway I actually use WhoIsIt to solve this, but I don't really like it, because it has an own, separate database of custom ringtones. It would be much easier to backup the settings of the original contact list. So, I NEED this app, please, help me to fix this!
The ultimate solution would be to include ringtone settings to google/exchange sync data (as pictures included), but I understand that it can not be solved by a third party app.
Updated to 1.1. Same problem!
Updated to 1.2. WORKS!!!
Question: can this app select a folder where i save custom ringtones so i can back these up? What about mp3s? Would be nice if this app could backup music.

This is not really the purpose of this app.. It is meant to restore contact settings.
BTW guys update 1.2 is up (quite a while now lol). It changes the backup/restore method - now reliant on contact names instead of contact id's, this allows full compatibility across different ROMs, so if you had problems using this before, please try again with this version (like the guy 2 posts above, lol).
I get a backup creation failed .. null pointer exception.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled it and still get the same error?
Any ideas??

[Q] currently in the middle of researching....

ok so my wife is getting frustrated with the bloatware/sense reboots on the mt4gs....(I have stressed to her the importance of backing out of apps the correct way and not task killing but I guess old habits die hard...)
At any rate I'm researching/reading through the threads on here and I've got just a few questions that I haven't seen come up yet (in the same iteration that I'm thinking of)
- How much different is this phone from the Sensation z710e? (aside from screen size & physical keyboard)
- I'd like to just root and remove the bloatware and keep the phone stock (no rom install) [ok, she would like it to stay stock, I'm leaning towards bulletproof myself] so the question is:
Is it possible to stay with factory settings after rooting (s-off)/de-bloating this phone so that she can continue to receive o.t.a updates? (odds are though that o.t.a updates may put her to s-on again, possibly)
- Is there a way to exit the internet browser and have it reset, i.e: press home screen after browsing, then go back into internet and have the home screen come up and not last viewed site?
- sorry for my long winded statement/questions I just kind of think of way too many things at once.
- FWIW, the h-boot is 1.44.0007 so I'm fairly certain I'd have no issue using alapharev and the walkthrough guide on here to s-off and root.
- titanium backup is not recommended for the bulletproof rom? that sucks, but Blue must have his/her reasons. ( I think I'm misreading this but I'm not sure yet, there are a lot of 'link-to' posts in the first post of that thread)
- anyone know if any of the following apps aren't working with the themes or the rom? (yeah I know this would be better geared towards the Bp rom thread but why make two separate posts)

I don't think you will receive ota updates unless u are not rooted, however there are countless apps that will let you remove anything you want once you are rooted.
I would imagine that if you delete the stock messaging app and you are only left with handcent, it will take over everything automatically and you should have no issues... However I wouldn't try that until you made a nandroid backup in clockworkmod recovery

Ota updates will always be posted onto the forums. The latest one turned the phone s-on and unrooted though, so I didn't try it

I think on this one, the only way to solve it will be to stop using a task killer. You shouldn't be having any problems like this, certainly not to the point of being 'frustrated' with it, so it's pretty conclusive that the task killer is your issue.
The problem is that apps don't get to shut down correctly, any data in use either doesn't get cleared or becomes corrupted, and the longer this process continues the worse it gets.
I know it's hard to kill old habits, but she will continue to have a worse and worse Android experience on any device with any ROM as Android grows unless she stops using a task killer.

Yep, you should have no issues, it's pretty straightforward. You can just run the program, flash superuser and be done with it, but I would also recommend installing Rom manager from the market and updated your clockworkmod to the official one for the device.
Might as well update superuser too, but you can then leave it alone and call it done.
Will be stock and fine until an OTA is applied, then you'll probably lose root and possibly the ability to get it back.
You can install bloater and busybox (as per the bloater thread) and be able to remove stock stuff easily with it once you get root.

Some people have used titanium and it's been fine, i'm still on the fence about it.
Issue was I was changing a lot of things, and when people restored app data to things i've changed it caused problems - so the best way to handle that was to say don't use it.
I know the thread is long now for the Bulletproof ROM, but in it there are some pretty detailed instructions on how to use Titanium with the ROM that people generally agree upon. I've never tried it so can't say personally.
I'll eventually put it back in, but i'm pretty busy with work right now and getting time in my dev chair is hard - hopefully i'll get a break in my schedule so I can get some work done soon. You should be able to use it, just don't try to restore any data from another ROM or previous version of Bulletproof and you should be alright.
----
Beautiful widgets HD and live wallpapers work fine, never used handcent so can't say, but don't see why it wouldn't work.
If it ends up not working, post in the thread and i'll fix it.
That right there is what makes xda great. ^^^^^
Thank you.
On a side note, the megaupload site was taken down....so I'm daring to ask the following question: the 'how-to-root guide >>>XDA LINK<<< said to d/l other files instead of the ones from alpharev's site.....they were hosted on megaupload. Now what ? lol
Why can't the files downloaded from alpharev's site work?
I see that in the link, the Op said that it is the adb tools for the MT4GS, why wouldn't the current adb tools I have work/ones d/l from alpharev's site?
I've always used the file from the author, I got it from them when it was first available, and just recently when a friend of mine got this phone.
Always works fine for me, and I would rather use the tool from the original author anyways generally speaking.
When you run Revolutionary tool, either install clockworkmod or not at your choosing, it doesn't matter because when you're done with it all you should go to the market and download ROM Manager. Then you can use it to upgrade or install your clockworkmod to the most recent version ( 5.0.2.7 ) directly, it will find the phone, download the right version, and install it for you. Couldn't be easier.
You do have to have superuser (root) access to use ROM Manager, so make sure to root it after running the Revolutionary tool.

How the hell do I tether my rooted Infuse without using an app or hot spot?

and before anyone says do a search, i've already done that and they all point to the same useless crap about downloading pdanet or some other app to tether.
i've done it before but for the life of me can't remember how it was done without having to use an app or the hot spot feature. i'm in an office and don't need everyone seeing the SSID and tethering is much faster than hot spot.
my phone is rooted so that's done and i can use the hot spot feature which works fine but when i tick the "usb tethering" checkbox to tether it doesn't work. wtf am i doing wrong? this is frustrating the hell out of me.
do i need to download some extra drivers or is there something else i need to check off or enable to make this thing work? HELP!!!
If you are already rooted all you have to do is download Titanium Backup Root from the market. Then run it, and find a program in the list called tethering manager and REMOVE it. It will be a system file and will tell you as such. Remove it anyhow and the stock tethering program will work fine.
I will be no help, but for those that can help it would be nice if you included more info
What rom are you running?
What kernel?
Or are you just stock rooted? If stock rooted froyo or gingerbread?
Provide as much info as possible, more is better than not enough. Again can't help you figure this out as I've never tried to tether...but I hope someone can help you figure this out

Sorry, guys, but I just checked and there is nothing in there called "tethering manager." Am I supposed to download this or should it just come with the ROM?
The only things I have listed in the "T" section is Task Manager, Tip N Split (cause I'm a damn good tipper), Translate, TTS Service 2.3.3, TwLauncher 2.3.3 and TwWallpaperChooser 1.0.
I've even done the filter to find anything with just "teth" or "tet" but still nothing.
As a last resort, I uninstalled TB and re-installed but still nothing. This sucks major balls!
update 1:
After doing some more digging, I checked the network connections in the control panel on my laptop, and it looks like I'm connected when I check the "USB tethering" feature on my phone but there is still no internet access. What could be causing this?
I've already checked the IP settings which are set to dynamic and my firewall is disabled so that's not the issue. I'm sure it's something simple but I can't figure it out.
Here's a screen shot of what I'm showing:
If you cant find tether manager in titanium backup then maybe try a factory reset and then see if it appearsjust to let you know our infuse custom roms tether and mobile hotspot far better then stock, and tethering manager is not included in any custom roms that I've ever seen.cm7 works the best for me but many of them work great ..trust me I play MW3 on Xbox live all night sometimes with solid connection.....read the stickies and FAQs in the dev forum if you want to flash some custom roms. Your missing out on some greatness
On my phone you have to connect and wait for about a solid minute before it works. Try waiting longer.

In my titanium backup I have to go into "batch" then freeze Alps and when it goes to the screen where it shows all of my apparently listed I can see it when I scroll way down, just another thing you could try

I have been seeing a lot about TB and am wondering how useful the pro version is over the basic version for a noob that is just playing around trying to find the best ROM to do what i want while still liking the looks of it. I am using a Samsung Infuse4G that presently hasCM7 installed. I use both Google's Play and the Amazon App store for my apps. I would not even be looking past CM7 right now if it allowed my Bluetooth to work as the tethering portions of it are great. based on all of this, which Titanium would be best and why?
Thanks,
Gary
Tether Manager issue
I have also been dealing with this issue. In some custom ROMs the tethering manager does not show up in TB so you cannot remove it. In others I have removed it and yet the tethering still does not work. This does get confusing for those of us that are not developers and are just learning how to root and load custom ROMs. Is there an easy way to tell if tethering will work before one goes through the process of downloading and flashing all of these different ROMs? I like CM7 the best, but it has no BT so I am looking for something close to it in function that has both.
Thanks,
Gary

If tetheringmanager has already been removed (which is the case for most custom firmwares), wifi tethering SHOULD work.
Tethering Manager
That is what I thought I was told, but it is not working. It still says you need a tethering plan from your carrier. Call 611 to arrange for one, or some such message. Is there something else that needs to be done as well? Also, what about USB tethering? What needs to be changed to let this work?

I was hunting around and found this thread and was looking for some answers?
And at the end of your question the thread just ? stops. did you ever get a answer to your problem?
Or did this thread get moved to a different folder?
I had been trying to help my SO get her recently (me) rooted infuse to tether so I got fairly familiar with how to do it. Not cause I'm an expert but cause I read the crap out of all threads.
It's on your phone and you just need to clk a couple more locations to get to it.
If your still looking to resolve it answer back in this thread.
I was able to do usb tethering on Aeon rom based on GB without 3rd party app.
1. Set phone to debug mode.
2. Settings>wireless & network> tethering and portable hotspots>check the usb tethering.
3. now i can browse the net on pc using data plan of my phone.
hope it will help.

Do you have the Samsung drivers installed on your computer?

[APP][8.0+] [OPEN SOURCE] [ROOT] Neo Backup - Apps and data backup tool for Android.

Neo Backup (formerly OAndBackupX) is a fork of the famous OAndBackup with the aim to bring OAndBackup to 202X and part of Neo Applications suite. For now the app is already fully rewritten, coming up would be making it robust and adding some lengthily planned features which could ease the backup/restore workflow with any device. Therefore all types of contribution are always welcome.
Now on functionality of our App:
It requires root and allows you to backup individual apps and their data.
Both backup and restore of individual programs one at a time and batch backup and restore of multiple programs are supported.
Restoring system apps should be possible without requiring a reboot afterwards.
Backups can be scheduled with no limit on the number of individual schedules and there is the possibility of creating custom lists from the list of installed apps.
And here's the project's FAQ.
Recommendation
A combination with your favourite sync solution (e.g. Syncthing, Nextcloud...) keeping an encrypted copy of your apps and their data on your server or "stable" device could bring a lot of benefits and save you a lot of work while changing ROMs or just cleaning your mobile device.
Community
There's a new room on Matrix and a group on Telegram to discuss the development of the App and test new versions:
Matrix
Telegram
Our Code Of Conduct applies to the communication in the community same as for all contributers.
Encryption
If enabled the data backup will be encrypted with AES 256 based on a password you can set in the settings, which you'll have to use when you want to restore the data. This way you can store your backups more securely, worrying less about their readability.
If you have some kotlin and android knowledge and like to contribute to the project, see our Taiga.io project here to see what is still needed to be done, where a help could be needed or if you'd like to fix one of the issues. Each contribution and communication in the project community should follow our Code Of Conduct

the apk obtained just now from Github and Izzyondroid have the same md5, whereas the one from F-droid seems to be newer ('added on 2020-10-02') and has a different size & md5. is that normal? which is the link recommended to follow for regular official updates?

All are exactly the same.
The fdroid one is newer and different in size and md5 because fdroid builds from the sources directly itself. Look for the versions they will be same.
Please be careful with the 3.2.0 release. There is an upcoming release 4.x that breaks compatibility with the existing backup archives in favor of Storage Access Framework and a new backup directory structure.
Test versions are posted in the Telegram group. Some common backup related issues such as issues with symlinks and pipes are not present anymore in the 4.x release.
Okay, I'm lost, and I'm not easily lost
Really wanted to try this, but we'll....
Trying this for the first time, but cannot fathom it's confusing way of doing things
All I want to do is backup user apps and their data....but no way can I figure how to do it
1st try, set the filter options to display user apps....doesn't do anything ...system apps still shown
Switch to backup tab (once I figured out which one it was) still listing system apps etc
Try selecting all and then changing filter...nope, system apps still shown
Go around in circles for 15 minutes, and then post here
I've used every backup app on Android since the beginning of time, never needed to post asking for help...
What am I missing?
You all could use some documentation at very least
Better labelling or explanation of GUI items needed too
Cheers in advance
@73sydney Labeling the icons was a topic on the chat already… and an issue on github, I think. The UI has been updated, but is still evolving. That's why it's hard to write good documentation without having it outdated after 1 or 2 months again.
Regarding your issues:
You might have missed to confirm the filter with the green button on the bottom (you might have to scroll down in the fragment a bit).
If you want to backup something, just tap on the app and select backup on the bottom of the "AppSheet" that appears then. Or you can do a batch backup if you change the mode to it with the icons that come up when you scroll up a bit (hint: keep pressing a button to get a hint what the button does). I think, there is a high chance, that some of you apps fail to be backed up because of symlinks. Version 4 should be more reliable.
Just give it a try, don't be sad, if it doesn't work perfectly. The development is still very active (removing/replacing legacy stuff, making sure the data is consistent, optimizing the performance etc). Some people tried the new version 4 and reported new bugs and it's known that the UI has some issues because a central structure was replaced and it seems that there are still some combinations of the settings that cause issues.
Maybe it's the right time, to invite some Android experts. Currently the data consistency is a hot topic. To close an app or not to close an app, how is it restarted at the end and how to keep it from restarting during backup? If anyone wants to join, just join via Matrix or Telegram.

Hi, i will never see the chat because i dont believe in installing 3rd party apps just for support for apps listed on XDA
I'll check out github issues though in future
I did tap the confirm button, it seems to do something but then comes back with no apps lin lis resetting to default (paraphrasing as away from device at the moment)
Literally nothing i tried got me all my user apps ticked ready for backup, if youre saying that i have to tick then one by one, then we're going to have an issue friend
So as yet, havent even tried a backup bacause i cant (short of ticking every app, skipping over the systenm and other special items ive asked the filter to hide but it doesnt) select the apps i want to backup...kinda catch22
Look im willing for anyone to piont out where im going wrong and even me made to feel like a numpty, but im a relatively smart guy, i have my full frontal lobe intact and ive managed to figure out every app in Android history until now
I get that youre also in the deep end currently with updating to a v4, so perhaps ill monitor and check back in when the dust settles a bit!
Cheers for the reply

That's a good choice. I like the style how Titanium Backup did the job and I agree, that the current mechanism for filtering is okay'ish.
The Telegram channel has a massive growth at the moment and I'm feeling uncomfortable with the current situation. It was nice that OABX has been featured on the homepage, but I'm personally saying, that the app is just not ready yet and won't meet the expectation. It's more an early access beta than a stable production ready app right now.
See ya later. Thanks for giving it a try!

Hi, appreciate the screenshots
I did try that several times yesterday, to no avail...
Just for you i removed, and reinstalled it just now and tried again, and success, i got just user apps selected and backup running!
Dont ask me to explain why it failed on 1st install, at times like these i like to play the "im just an end user" card
But thanks for taking the time to take the screenshots, it encouraged me to reinstall and give it another go, and if i hadnt i would never
have known the sweet taste of backup victory
edit/update:
Okay got too cocky
It got as far as VLC or 114/124 apps and has been stuck there crashed for 5 minutes
Hehe i got close though
Time to force close and try again...
edit/update #2:
after 4 force closes i got a backup done
on one occassion is atarted to do a backup , then went back to the app list window, with no apps displayed
ill test the restore in a couple of days when i have time

Currently testing restore - had to flash a ROM to test something for someone, may as well take the opportunity to try restore
Update:
Restore stalls at 14 packages left, force close time.....
Nope...3 attempts later same issue, althoug at different stage, different package
I suspect that even with battery optimization disabled for app (confirmed), the minute the screen goes out, it kills the restore process.
Im sadly not able to sit rigth now keeping the screen awake while 119 apps restore
I will keep my eye on the project
OAndBackup also system apps + settings?
Is it possible to backup and restore also system apps and their settings, e.g. the "system settings" (with screen resolution, installed screen widgets, app arrangements etc.)?
Titanium can't do it for example...

Hi, you can backup system apps and their data as well as third party apps. Just keep in mind, what I wrote about version 3.2 before.
The settings for your Android system are stored in a database of the system app com.android.providers.settings. If you backup and restore the data followed by a reboot, you might be able to overwrite the current settings database. I don't know, what happens, if you replace the underlying database file on a running system. Not mentioning the catastrophic damage you could do if the database isn't as expected by the provider.
I successfully tested the restore of SMS and call history on the same phone and same ROM. There could be issues, if you mix things up.
What you more likely want is something, that exports all entries and imports them later on restore and this kind of functionality isn't implemented (yet).
Be careful, when you test something out. Bad sytem can break your system. Also be careful, that you only restore the data. Mixing versions of different ROMs/Android versions may have a bad ending.
