I am on bootloader 1.09.000...
Do I need to update my bootloader to flash a jellybean Rom or viper Rom?
Sent from my Calkulins HTC One XL using xda-developers app
No? If you did it'd be evident
Make your life easier.. don't upgrade your BL... if you did, you'd have to flash the boot.img seperately
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app
You are asking to do the exact opposite of what everyone with hboot 1.14 wants to do. If you read any of the many posts regarding this issue you would know that.
Once you decide to finally flash a rom you will see how easy it really is and feel silly you waited so long. The guy you got the phone from probably already flashed them all so your phones no ROM 'virgin'. He unlocked the bootloader rooted it and loaded you a custom rom already so all you need to do is follow the simple directions for each and every ROM in this forum and you will be fine.
Try it trust me you will like it
Okay I'll take your word... And I know how to flash boot.img I had to do it ALL the time with my vivid. Biggest pain in the ass I ever had to learn. Especially with Wcx-xperia roms

Ok so i wilp be upgrading to a one s in a few days and im wondering if for s-off on the one s could someone make like what the devs did for the n1 with blackrose. Or could someone find someone one with one of the rare one s dev phones with s-off and extract the s-off hboot from that and flash it on all the other one s phones

The basic chicken & egg situation is that you need s-off to write hboot.
You'd have to boot the device through some other means than the normal (s-on) hboot, or spoof some check(s) to prevent the normal hboot from setting mmc protection.
Well i know that sansung phones have something called unbrickable mod and that starts before the bootloader ir os or anything likebthat starts. If soneone can get something like that then we could s-off the one s easily

I don't what I could use S-OFF for at this moment. Sure, there might be devs who just would start some efficient stuff, but thanks to those current recoveries where already have most of the possible functionalities.

We're trying to help you, in the XDA way. And what we're trying to explain to you is that if you need someone to hold your hand while rooting and romming your phone, you're not ready to root and rom. Because if you goof something up and get in trouble, you're going to have no clue how to get out of it.
It's not that I want some to hold my hand.. I've installed roms on my skyrocket but I never new HTC one x would be so different n harder.. What I'm trying to say is I'm not used to fast boot and twrp and cmd promt

I remember when I rooted a phone for the first time. It was my HTC desire. I distinctly remember being worried the whole time I was about to turn my lovely phone into a paperweight.
I read some stuff.
I read some other stuff.
I was confused, so I searched and read some other stuff.
Then I rooted my bloody phone myself, and thoroughly enjoyed a certain sense of accomplishment when it worked.
I'm now on my one xl. There was some confusion about the att and the "international" one x. Me being aussie, I thought I was international. Then I read a bit more, and learnt the difference between the chips on the two models, thereby avoiding bricking my 3 day old toy.
I now ask a few questions here and there, primarily about bugs or features of whatever ROM I am running. Rooting and unlocking and installing roms has been addressed more thoroughly then I believe anything else on this forum.
There is a lot of information out there, and heaps of help to be had on this site, but please do some of the research for yourself first, because I don't think you would have submitted this post if you had.

I am not the most up to date so I am just going to ask.
I have an HTC One S That I had bought out right at staples with no plan.
Now I have unlocked rooted and had my fun with it but recently I reflashed it back to stock with the 2.35 RUU I got from the forum.
Then I let it do it's song and dance and it did all its updates as of yesterday.
As far as provider I use Walmarts family mobile and I get awesome download and upload rates. As we all know walmarts family mobile is actually tmobile but cheaper but you have a 1 gig a month data cap.
So heres my Question.
Can I flash any jelly bean rom on here.
Like if I get a copy of the Cincinnati bells update can I flash it?
Since i'm not technically locked to a carrier and can use tmobile or att or any provider with a sim card does that mean I can use any jb package?

So if I super cidd the phone then I can use a jb from another carrier?
Also I have been using ruu 2.35 a lot on this phone when experimenting with different custom roms.
Ruu hasn't been and issue so far.
So if I understand you I can ruu Jelly Bean?
Is there a Unbranded Jelly bean out that's stable and the same as the OTA?

If you're unlocked and have custom recovery, then you don't need S-Off or even superCID. You can extract the system image from a RUU and then in recovery dd it into p33. (Push it to your sdcard partition first. And flash the boot image. And wipe your data partition too.)
So technically no, you're not running the RUU, but you do end up with the software from the RUU on your device. Maybe this is silly stuff as well, but not brick-risky.

From what I know if you took the ota update then there's no work around into root/unlock bootloader/s-off as the update patched it up,so pretty much your stuck with the ota update with no root and anything else until someone can figure out another method

If you're on AT&T, no. Downgrading is possible, but you need s-off, and you need to root to get s-off. There is apparent root method for 4.1 on AT&T. One guy managed it on the x-factor exploit but no one else has been able to.

The fact that it's refurbished has no bearing over whether or not it's rootable.
