Is it possible, or would I have to flash a new ROM?
I need somehow to maintain the circle widget and remove the search bar, without disabling it.
I don't think their is any way other than to use a custom launcher (nova) but then you loose the circle widget.
Get titanium backup
Then all u have to do is freeze Google search
U have to be rooted
Works great..first thing I did on this phone and the OG razr

Doesn't that still leave the space at the top empty and unusable?
Yeah, I heard of that way, but doesn't that also disable the Google Now search, in addition to leaving that space unusable?

Anyone know how to take the at&t widgets off the widget list? Im on a Captivate rooted, (oclf) and have root explorer (if that matters).

You can use root explorer to delete the files associated with them or titanium backup will also remove system apks. Just be sure you know what the names are, some can be quite cryptic.
The files are in system/app directory but some apps also have other files associated with them.
Titanium backup has a feature where you can freeze them which essentially disables them and you can defrost thus reenabling should you find you made an error or change your mind.

I've tried TB, but for some reason, it slowed my phone down. I can try it again. When they are froze, will that eliminate them from the widget list?

Cool thanx man. And does anyone else have an issue freezing apps on captivate and TB keeps saying its freezing the app. I let my phone sit for like 10 mins trying to freeze one app!

No problems with freezing at all. Its a quick process and defrosting is just as quick

So as soon as you hit "freeze" it does its thing, then you can choose the next app? Maybe I should haver restarted my phone or something after untangling TB.

Hey there,
If you happen to be running Launcher Pro, you can hit Menu - Preferences - General Settings - Hidden Apps. Here you can check what you don't want to see in your apps list.
As far as Titanium Backup goes, I've never tried the Freeze option - I've just deleted what I didn't want (as long as I knew what it was!)
Hope this helps!

Yeah that helped I been hiding that apps with LP, but I figured everything out using TB. I just went ahead and bought it. Thanx everyone for your input!

You can also get autostarts and disable the widgets from starting.
Has anyone tried copying their titanium backup folder from their Droid phone, pasting it into their xoom root, loading the titanium app to the xoom, and loading apps from their phone over to the xoom?
I have not tried this so I am not certain, but I do not think this will work.
Especially since alot of apps arent running on honeycomb

Aslong as the app works in honeycomb this will work fine.

How can you tell if an app will run on honeycomb or not? I have ordered a new xoom but haven't received it yet.

You typically learn something doesn't work, when it just doesn't do what it's supposed to. Like when your flying down the road, and are coming to a stop sign or some crap, and you hit your breaks and nothing happens and fiery death ensues. Your breaks didn't work, and you found out by getting your ass wrecked.
You can also try to search the marketplace for the apps when you get your xoom. If they show up they should work.
Thanks.

They have a non-rooted version, unless that's changed, but I'm not sure if it still has the same functionality/ability that the rooted version does.

Your not going to be able to backup any user-specific data associated with any given app unless your rooted, or the app itself has a mechanism for backing up/exporting your custom data. There may be some way of doing something via adb, but I'm not sure, and it would seem that biting the bullet and rooting, and then being able to backup thoroughly from that point forward, would be less hassle in the long run.
The apps themselves, or at least a list of them is backed-up to Google if you have that option set. So if you get a new phone or reset, the first time you setup the phone, Google retrieves those apps automatically.
I do believe that mybackup pro, and perhaps even titanium, will backup the apps themselves (the .apks) ONLY, even if you aren't rooted, but that really isnt very useful, especially if you have the Google backup mechanism enabled.
These apps need root in order to gain access to the location on the phone where apps store any of the data you have created with those apps.
So I have JB on my rooted Nexus S. As usual i have deleted system apps that I don't use or like. One of them was google search AKA Google Now.
I don't like something stuck on top of my home screen and removing it on 4 hadn't cause any issues. Not this time.
Beware that if you delete velvet.apk/googlequicksearchbar from JB you loose Voice Input method on your keyboard.
It is a real bummer to tie a device core function to a service that some people might not like.

You do know you can just turn Google now off right? Just asking because I would hate to lose voice. If you didn't already know just open Google now, hit menu, select Google now, and slide on button to off. If you did know then disregard.

Is there a way to get the old search back? I liked how my search opened directly into my browser. Even with google now turned off it searches in that different program which has terrible 3 past item history. Also it's quite easy to lose the search when multitasking and jumping in and out of different tasks.

Does anyone know if this is confirmed? I got the OTA update via clearing the Google framework trick. After upgrading to 4.1 I have found that I don't get expandable notifications with emails that I receive on Gmail.
Edit: Nevermind. I got the expanded preview to work by dragging 2 fingers over the email notification.
Tunein Radio has it.
