Battery died, boots into recovery????? - HTC One S

My phone died and i didnt realize it was low and now im not sure why it wont charge. Anytime i put it on the charge it reboots into recovery and keeps doing that. I tried holding down the vol down several times to get into bootloader but it wouldnt go nor will it boot back on

Recovery
I was having a similar issue with the phone booting into recovery while charging. I flashed the latest TWRP recovery and it solved that issue. However, I have not encountered the issue with the device not being able to power up. I hate to recommend a full wipe if you don't have a back-up, but you can try the recovery first.

Hard power-off offers a workaround

I am experiencing this as well. Battery runs out of charge and when I plug it into the power outlet, the phone boots into recovery. Selecting "reboot" in recovery doesn't work and the phone boot loops back into recovery. Some have suggested that using the "clear storage" option in recovery seems to stop the boot loops but I don't really want to clear my data every time the battery runs out. What works for me is to let the phone stay plugged in for about fifteen minutes (so it gets a little charged). I then press and hold the power button for about ten seconds. This causes the phone to power off completely. I then press and hold the power button to power up the phone (cold start). The phone boots up correctly although I get a message something like "the device encountered an error on startup, would you like to report the issue to HTC?" I choose NO.
This is very annoying and I can't seem to find out if it is in the recovery or if it is in fact a problem in the stock ROM.
ROM: T-Mobile Stock 4.0.4
Software number: 2.35.531.10 710RD
HBOOT: 1.14.0005
Recovery: CWM 5.8.3.1

Its the crap recovery you using. Flash TWRP and you should never have that issue again.

I had that issue too. I had to leave the phone in recovery, charging, for a few minutes, then boot it without the charger.

It's a known issue with cwm though I thought it was fixed a while ago. Had that issue on my g2 but was fixed. I wish 4ext recovery was an option for this device

Anyone who is reading and is panicking, for future reference just hold down the power button to do a hard shutdown. Do this about 4-6 times until it successfully boots up. As a rule of thumb, I never install anything cwm anymore.

Actually, just leaving it charging for a couple of mins in recovery and then boot it without the charger works even better.

I have the AT&T One X... Ive rooted it, unlocked the bootloader, blah blah blah. Im sort of new at this, so when something happens, Im a little clueless. The point of learning, I suppose. Anyway, today I did a factory reset and restored to my earliest backup. The phone booted originally but then said process.android something or other has stopped working. Phone turned off. Now, when I try to turn it back on, it wont go past the boot animation. Its not connecting to my computer to reboot it with a command, either. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated and ASAP.

From the ROM. Thats when it told me process.android stopped, then went to the htc one x loading screen.
Frankly, my dear, you ****ed up.
Whenever you want to Wipe ANYTHING you have to do it from your recovery (TWRP).
Boot into TWRP by holding the down volume and power, for what seems like a lifetime and try to restore from there?

And when I try to do a factory reset in TWRP it tells me in the dialog: E:Unable to mount /sdcard
Im beginning if this phone and I just werent meant to be. haha
Twrp did the mount thing to me as well. Still plugged USB and PC found the SD anyway. Copied ROM to SD, flash and bingo. Other option is to download the stock RUU.

My computer still doesnt show any connection to the phone. I tried downloading the RUU and when I ran it on PC, it said it couldnt connect to my phone.
When doing RUU, make sure you relock your bootloader. Instructions here http://www.theandroidsoul.com/how-to-re-lock-htc-one-x-bootloader/
make sure you have HTC Sync and drivers installed if you are flashing RUU.
Also when u get into your bootloader, highlight bootloader and select it. After, right above that, in red it will read fastboot usb. Until then your pc wont recognize it.
It worked! You guys are all awesome!

Did I brick my phone...?

Okay, so I was on Sense 3, unrooted. I tried to root, but it had to downgrade me to GB. That went okay. Here's the issue.
After going through the whole root process with Gingerbread, Command Prompt said that root was successful(Not those exact words, but I remember myself thinking, "YES!"). Then, when it booted into the HTC screen, it faded away slowly and now it's a dim black screen. Nothing but that. Can I get some help from anyone?

Does the phone boot into the rom as usual? If it does, search for fastbook and uncheck it. It's either under development settings or battery or one of those.
Edit: I just went through your posts. Buddy, just read the whole guide I sent you. Try to familiarize yourself with it and you will be fine.

Well it goes to the screen that says HBOOT in blue. On top it says "ACE PUT SHIP S-OFF RL" then some other stuff. If I do Reboot or Recovery, it goes to the same dim lighted screen. Should I do a Factory Reset then just try to root again?

Nope, cause you are already rooted. If you run the hack kit again, chances are you will mess something up. That is what the s-off means.
Why it goes to the dim screen, no idea. Read the effen manual, find out what is going on. This part is serious, read the effen manual. If you don't find the solution there, then go to the irc channel and ask for help. Be patient. If you requesting for help for something that is covered in the manual, you will be ignored and kicked from the channel. So read the effen manual.
That is, if the problem started after running the hack kit. If not, well, take a different route.

I can 100% confirm that the HK said "Attained root, s-off, and installed Clockworkmod" It's just after that that things got messed up. When I tried to turn it on normally this morning, the orange LED started flashing and it viberated 3 times. Nothing else except the flashing LED. I understand that if I had bricked it, the ugly Red ! triangle would come up, right?
Come on, I know SOMEONE can help! Please, people? I want to try to have it running AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, rooted or not. Is it harmful that I've rooted it before, then unrooted it? I unrooted less than a month ago, in case it matters. I wanted to use Blackout ICS, so I wanted to root it again.

Can you use adb from the blacked out screen. What happens when you plug it in to your computer after turning it on, does the pc at least recognize it. If so you can use adb to reboot it into recovery. Once there install a Rom. Seems you have no boot IMG at the moment which would be causing your problem.

Have you tried pulling the battery for a few seconds too and then booting into hboot. It's probably a good idea to get into hboot first to confirm you have s off. Adb can be used to boot into bootloader as well.

Yes, I do have S-Off, the HBOOT screen says so, and so did Command Prompt. How do I get into ADB? I already have my preferred ROM on my memory card.
We need to see if adb can even recognize your phone. Use this guide to get adb running on pc. Boot phone as normal and let it go to black screen then plug into pc. From there type "adb devices" and it should list a device. From there type "adb reboot recovery". If you still can't get to recovery but device is recognized flash recovery again from aahk options menu from same black screen. And try the adb recovery command again. If you get to recovery report back as there is a trick to flashing blackout that I'll fill you in on so you dont end up back where you are. Okay, I'm trying to reflash recovery, but where do I go to after Options?
Never mind, I was so nervous I didn't read it its currently flashing.
Update: It STARTED, but then it said Device not found, waiting for device. What now?? The ADB recognized it, and so did the hack kit at first.
You could try flashing recovery by this alternate method in this thread. You could also try and installing a rom via PD98IMG which is also covered is this thread.

Once back to stock by Rom method you could just reflash recovery and then a Rom.

Before I read this, I tried flashing it again through AAHK again. It SEEMED like it finished. It said a bunch of things on cmd, then returned to the Main Menu without telling me it flashed. Then I pressed SOME kind of combo with the V & Power, and it came up to a screen that I didn't have much time to look at. It looked KIND OF the same as CWM, but I'm pretty sure I read the words Ace Hack Kit. What is that?
Another update: It was CWM, but the screen was flashing so I didn't know what to do. I know how to navigate around it(I was rooted a few months back), but I didn't have time do much before it completely exited and went to the usual.

Also reminds us all the importance of backing up our data via a Custom Recovery before flashing ROMs
ive stumpled on upon a quite annoying problem..i have an HTC ONE X+ which i unlocked my bootloader on and everything went smooth until i wanted to start recovery via hboot.
it did not start and i tried several times and restarted etcetc, i then tried to flash in another recovery and then tried more and more but nothing..
then i cant remember now exaclty how i did it, but i have several RUU, kernel, recovery, boot and roms n such items downloaded
so i tried to feed in another flash or rom or whatever its called to get the recovery funtion to work (i am not very pro at this) and then when i wanted to start my phone normally it all of a sudden wont boot properly.
it freezes on the bootscreen.. i can turn off and go in to bootloader but i cant do ANYTHING from there, i cant do a factory reset (wich i also tried when the recovery did not want to work) i cant do **** there. tried to lock and unlock bootloader.. feels like im out of options..
the only thing i can do now is command the phone via cmd and the toolkit i use from here "Hasoon2000s htc one x AIO kit"
using this guide on this thread mostly..
ive tried so many things now, searched this and other forums since friday and i still can not get anywhere... starting to think this is what the definition of a bricked unit is??
if you need any more info please just ask.. i bought the phone a week ago so kinda sucks if it would be useless for me right away haha..
i would appreciate som help and tips... please
Sincerely Jeff

Hi,
I rooted my phone today and everything worked fine, I then went to CWrecovery to flash the liquidsmooth rom I downloaded. I selected to reboot device after a successful install but now it won't turn on, no screen, led, etc. if I plug into computer I get a contection noise from my computer but thats it. Can't boot into download mode or recovery... What can I do to fix?
thanks
Did you unlock and flash a custom bootloader?
I think so. I rooted/unlocked bootloader.
Did this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439&nocache=1
For Both Root and Unlocked Bootloader ***RECOMMENDED*** - Download SuperSU + Unlocked Bootloader to your SD Card
Then tried to flash LiquidSmooth from forum.

Did you wipe data factory reset prior to flashing the rom?

no i didn't
If you forgot to wipe the phone would still attempt to boot. It just might send you into a bootloop
Anthrax unreleased towchwiz
Yeah except I can't get it to boot at all. No response to turning on, pulled battery, waited 30 minutes, then tried to boot again. nothing. not even the LED. now if I leave the battery out and plug the phone in to the computer the LED turns on but that's it. At the computer end I get the sound for plugging in a USB device, however it doesn't do anything else and there were no drivers for the device: QHSUSB_DLOAD.
Is it hard bricked?
Try getting into recovery by holding volume up+home button +power button at the same time. Hold it for a few seconds and it should vibrate and one the Samsung logo comes on you could let go. At this point I would either try re flashing or restore your most recent backup download another rom and try again.

Tried that, as well at the Vol Down+ home+ power. Neither worked, no vibrate or screen boot.
Take your battery out for at least 5 minutes than put on the charger for awhile (couple hours) than try again. If none of this works hero had a wire up on how to fix your soft brick phone that might help. If your bootloader wasn't unlocked I'm not sure what to do to fix that. I hope you get it going. I'll post that link if I find it.

My friend had this happen (not rooted), she took it in to Verizon and they got it going by holding VOL UP and DOWN, and then POWER.
I'd never heard of this technique, but it worked for her.
Post the link and exact file name of the rom you flashed.

Is it just me or is fix permission missing from CWM.
So, apart from GPS not working, as far as you know everything basic is working well?

Yeo, it is. I didn't touch anything related to the recovery except the recovery fstab that I must update to b compatible w the new JB so idk if I have to do anything else to have that feature back or it was CWM by default then, I will find out bout it soon.

I believe koush decided to throw away the fix permissions button in CWM because he said it was largely placebo effect and had no real purpose anymore.

Thanks for all the solutions and answers that I have collected from users around here, I have been able to update the OP for the FAQ (post 3) in the main thread. So either a question is answered here or not, please also have a look over the FAQ @ post 3 in the dev thread to track down the answered common questions, thanks .

so do you know if external mics work on this Rom?
Ok guys i have flashed near every rom this phone has ever had and never ran into a bootloop problem. So i had CH 10.2 on my phone for 2 days with no hiccups. Then today after letting my phone die completely "battery death" i pluged it in and now it keeps bootlooping and i cant get it into recovery if i hold down volume down + power it loops at the galaxy s 4g starting screen. If i let it go of the power button at the correct time it just bootloops. anyone have any ideas?

Ok if i hold that combo it loops the galaxy s 4g splash screen if i hold the combo then let go of the power button at any time during the splash or right when it turns to black then it just normally boots into the Cyanogen boot screen then sits there spinning for going on 2 hours then i just pull the battery any ideas?

Battery Pull. Hold Vol Up + Vol Down + Power. Whenever The Samsung Galaxy S 4G Splash Screen Comes On, Let Go Of The Power Button And Keep The Volume Buttons Held Down. Should Take You To Recovery

OMG YES!!! I have no idea what i did but i pressed the combo when i plugged it into my computer and it looped the battery screen twice then went straight into CWM recovery did not go through the splash screen like a normal CWM recovery start but whatever i got to remove the rom and flash the new Slim Rom . Anyone have any idea what could have caused this just so i know what to or what not to do in the future ?
Try using adb

To get to CWM recovery on this ROM, simply download 'Quick Boot' application and use it to get to recovery. It works.
Apex launcher crashes as well. I think issue is ROM related. Also, ROM is very heavy, I couldn't find why.
Edit: ROM is snappier after using CM performance features and letting cache do its work.

That's not very helpful if you can't get past the CyanogenMod splash though.

I got through the splash screen on 1st try.
You should check if you worked according to ROM instructions.
I usually always format system as well as wipe everything twice before flashing any new ROM.
I was referring to :
1. the lack of recovery button on power menu.
2. The inability to use hardware keys to get to recovery after flashing this ROM.
Heimdall One-click (in download mode) and try again.
You're right - I missed that option in developer features - it's called 'advanced reboot options'.
I'd suggest you get to download mode - one click heimdall and reflash this ROM after dowble wiping dalvik, cache, and format system.
I've flashed numerous ROMS to my phone before but have never ran into a problem like this.
-I went back to stock
-flashed CM7, as recommended from the OP
-downloaded and flashed CM10.2 but it gets stuck around 75%
I've been on this thread, and the rom thread as well as waiting a bit, hoping to find a solution or it figures itself out. Nothing! Is it unsafe to pull my battery when its at 'Installing update' (75%) for an extended period of time?
Also, i am on CWM 5.0.2.8
Thanks
I flashed it from ICS (Ultragen) and had no problem.
You can try that as well.
