Take screen apart - Asus Transformer TF700

Hey guys, merry xmas. Iv had my 700 for 4 months and loved every minute of it. I cromi'd it and it runs like a beast. I also have a squaretrade policy.
So, with that bein said i have a two point question. (1) i have a big (big and distracting!!!!) dust particle (not a dead pixel) in the middle of the screen that has popped up recently. I baby the device so it frustrating seeing that especially in the middle of the screen. Iv watched teardown vids but none of them go as far as separating the glass from the lcd. If i do that to clean the screen how easy is it to reaaplyi the glass to the lcd screen. Should i order adhesive first?
(2) if i decide to squaretrade it would they accept dust under screen as a viable reason to service? Also, i leave the country for duty and NEED the tablet in my posesion before jan 7th, is that enough time for squaretrade? I dont want to receive a refurbished hunk o junk from squaretrade as a replacement bc my tf700 is otherwise in perfect condition (no qc issues mentioned in these forums). So will they fix the problem themselves or just replace it?
Sorry for the long post but thanks for everything and merry xmas, happy qwanza and\or whatever tickles you fancy.

Your best bet is to contact SquareTrade and ask them those questions (only they can truly answer those questions).
I would *not* attempt to repair it yourself - chances are that you will end up with a device that is un-usable... It's *very* hard to take the screen apart...
Personally, I'd probably just deal with the dust until you get back from your trip and then send it to SquareTrade.. After all, the TF700 is still fully functional - it's just a piece of dust...

Please let us know what you find out from SquareTrade - I'm curious as to how they respond (I have a SquareTrade warranty as well).
Thanks.

its not easy to take apart the glass from the LCD. Theres a double sided foam tape in between and screen is so thin that itll flex and crack when you try to pull them apart. Definitely go the square trade route or Asus if youre not unlocked.

Does anyone actually have the tf700 dock?

Last week, I made the mistake or ordering a "bundle" from TigerDirect which included the infinity tablet + dock. The tablet was shipped promptly but the dock was immediately put on backorder - a detail which was missing from their web site which assures that the product will be shipped within days.
The pricing on the order added $23 to the cost of the tablet and subtracted $23 from the cost of the dock. So, if I cancel the dock I'm out $23. I'm not sure why TigerDirect did this other than to ensure that I'd wait for the dock to be shipped.
I would, of course, just like to buy a TF201 dock and save money in the process but TigerDirect has negated that option.
Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone actually has seen a bona-fide, not repackaged TF700 dock. I've scoured the forums looking for anyone who might actually have one but I haven't seen any reports. I also haven't seen any estimates on when these seemingly mythical entities will be shipped.
Anyone have any insight here?

I would like to know this too. Also, is this supposed TF700 dock actually going to have the same coloration as the TF700? Would prefer for them to match.
Awesome question! I am surprised that Asus has not commented on the seemingly repackaged docks.

At least ASUS has confirmed that there will be dock's in both Infinity colors...but question is when?
Got the dock and it is in the same color.

I actually spoke with Tiger Direct today (same boat & questions). I was told they are expected to ship out later this week say Thursday or Friday. No "official" word we then moved on to the obligatory warranty up sell

Could you post pics? I've seen lots of people saying they have a dock that is the same color but every one I've seen is in fact quite different. Would be relieved if that weren't the case.

Congratulations on getting what seems to be a straight answer. I'm on my third try with them, just asking the "When do you expect this to ship" question.
I assume you probably talked on the phone where it was harder to misinterpret simple questions.
Quick update, received notice my dock has shipped from tiger direct should be here tomorrow. I will give you guys a quick update when it arrives.

Well now my Amazon order for the dock says 2-4 weeks as opposed to the 1-2 months it said before. That's what it said for the tablet to before it became available the next day so hopefully it will be shipping soon! I didn't buy from the other sellers on Amazon because they are shipping out 201s according to reviews. I trust buying from Amazon directly though.
It's supposed to be technically the same as the tf201. Difference is the one for the infinity will be color matched to our tablets. Model wise, it's just a prime dock with updated firmware + color

Which would result in lighter weight as well, correct? Has the battery size difference been confirmed?

My dock says "TF201" but it has exactly the same color. Can share a photo if you want to. Its the grey one (bit purple).

The battery was moved to the front of the keyboard to help counter weight the tablet. The bigger battery would not fit so went with smaller battery.
Just what I have heard around the webs.
Update: Just received from my dock from Tiger Direct. Ditto on the other comment already made. It's listed as a TF201 but the color matches.

I have the TF700 Dock. Yeahhhhhh Buddy. I paid $169 for it and it says TF201 all over the f*cking thing lmaoooo. It does have a sticker that says TF700T
I had to post this. I was surprised no one beat me to it. I have the same one everyone else has. I just paid a lot more :-[ its still Hot though.

Got my dock today from tigerdirect and it says tf201 all over it even under /settings/about tablet : MobileDock version TF201-DOCK-0207. The box did have a sticker on it labeling it TF700T-DOCK-GR but of course right above it it says Model:TF201Mobile Docking... Wish my brother were here with his prime so I could compare them, but it feels good, doesn't tip over and the color matches. Someone should call and complain maybe get them to price match it down to the tf201 model's 113.00 price tag. Not it.
Got the tf700-dock from office depot.
Box, sticker on the bottom of the dock, and the manual said tf201.
I have a prime and dock as well, the new dock is matched in color to the infinity and only barely different from the prime. They weigh 3 grams less. I suspect ASUS didn't get a delivery from the printer
All I can say is the color matches the infinity, not the prime. Dunno why it says 201 all over everything.

hi everyone I bought a tf700t a few days ago and waiting for delivery. I am just wondering is accessories of older products such as prime, tf300 etc
are able to used on tf700t ?
For example, the charger, docking, case and anything can be used on it
Thank very much

Some yes, some no.
Cables seem to be the same. The docks it depends. The TF201 and TF700 seem to be the exact same piece of hardware as suspected by many and proven by craftyhacks here.
To expand on your question, other accessories such as cases and screen protectors may fit or may not. Pick through the accessories section for more elaboration on this. My case and screen protector are both from another device and work perfectly, but others have not been so lucky.

Where to buy the "real" TF700T dock?

It seems like 90% of the posts I read about TF700T docks are from people who have the relabeled 201 dock (some happy, some not), but there are also claims that people have seen the two designs torn down, so there must be "real" 700 docks apparently floating around out there to compare vs. relabeled ones. Since ASUS relabeled the 201 inventory as 700 docks, I am assuming at some point retailers will sell out of the 201 units and restock with

As far as I can tell, no European retailer carries the TF700 dock.
Just bought a dock from Best Buy today. Had the TF700 stickers over the TF201 sticker. But honestly people. This is the real dock. It even came with the new firmware. Nothing installed when i first the tablet into it and its up to date. Feels great to me. Fits perfect. The lock clicks fine. I think that we are chasing the REAL TF700 dock for nothing. If people had problems with it fitting, they must have had a defective dock or tablet. Even if the real dock does exist, I'm 100% happy with this dock. Everything seems to work. All the buttons work. What do you have to lose? Get it from Best Buy, stickers over stickers or not. If you hate it or have a problem, return it! Best Buy is good like that.
If it is not the same color it is Not the right dock. I don't care what sticker they put on it. Can you imagine buying a new car and having the dealer install a different hood that was last years model (but nothing has changed but the color) would yo be happy with that?

I don't really feel that I can compare this to a car. Because this dock being a slightly different color would not bother me one bit especially if it worked exactly the same. But of course a different color hood would.

There is no such thing as a "real" TF700 dock, other than the one with the stickers on the box.... It's been discussed to death already, but I truly believe that the docking part of the re-labeled TF700 dock is slightly different than the original TF201 dock. But other than that, it's really just the same dock and it works fine...

Good input. Does the machine tip over backwards when the screen is tilted fully backwards?
Yeah the balance issue is what concerned me as well -- I know they are functionally identical but if they really did relocate the battery to make it less prone to tipping over, that's something I want.
I can confirm that my TF700 does not "tip over" when tilted back all of the way... I have the dock that had the TF700 sticker over the TF201 designation...

I second this, its stable all the way back. Give it a push and it might fall, but its not going to fall on its own. I feel that its safe.

I can confirm this also. Just picked up the dock from Best Buy today. Had a sticker over the tf201, but that may be a miss print because the same label has TF-700T-DOCK-GR printed on it.

I got the dock from Best Buy. Had to order it twice, because they didn't sent the shampain gold color. It has a sticker that it is a TF700/TF201 Mobile Docking. The problem I have is that the tablet doesn't fit easily into the dock. I have to use some pressure for the lock to it in place. I owned TF300 before, and the tablet easily got into its place in the dock. So, I am thinking, that maybe I need to have the keyboard replaced. Has anyone have the same issues with the dock?
The "real TF700 dock" is the Asus Transformer Pad Mobile Dock with a sticker that says "Compatible with: TF700 Series/TF201.
there was a post here about the dock for the tf500 which is also called the TF700/tf500 dock. Rumored to be on sale very soon, and I think that some retailers were already putting up info on Amazon etc.
I have yet to see a single dock for the 700 that has the contours for the 700 fit exactly in the dock mechanism. Seems to me like they are all one curve like the 200 is, not angular like the 700 is.
There was a post kicking around about the internals being identical, battery life being different because of power draw by the beefier tablet is greater than the older one. For now the 200 dock is all we have, however its labled.
And to anyone that says they have a legit 700 dock, dock your tablet, look at the dock mech and see the gaps between the angle of the base of the tablet and the smooth curve of the dock mech. Congrats, you have a 200 dock. If yours is a perfect fit then pics or it didnt happen.
Cheers!

I've been researching which tablet to buy and have been leaning heavily towards the TF700. Newegg has a combo with the TF300T KB/dock. Is the TF300T dock any better or worse than the TF500/700/201 or whatever dock? It has a 16W/h size battery according to the specs. And in the pictures it looks more blue rather then gray like the TF700...is that right? Should I bother looking for a different dock?

Display replacement help...

Ok, so the screen gave out on my tf700. I checked, it's not just that the ribbon cable isn't seated properly. I'm unlocked so no warranty. I've checked but am unable to find somewhere that sells replacement screens. Is anybody familiar with somewhere to pick one up? Or is anyone familiar with a online market that would be interested in buying it to use for parts? Everything else is still working including hdmi out. I'm just in a jam here. Thanks guys.

If you break the screen, then Asus has no reason to repair it FREE. You do have to pay for a repair.
Warranty only applies for things like cpu and such (u know what I am talking about)...
Buying a new screen
So having ASUS repair it and paying them for it is one option. Does anyone know know where I can buy the screen and DIY?

I have just bought a screen (digitizer) from ebay and I am about to replace mine, but please check out this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1728820 and read it through well. You may face issues during the process...
DIY Screen replacement
Thanks so much for sharing that thread! What screen are you buying, can you share that link as well? I'd also be very curious to hear how the process went for you and what challenges you face. Thanks again and best of luck!
The DYI seems to be the only method that makes any fiscal sense. $185 to have ASUS replace it and the local repair guy charges $70 for the screen and $100 to replace it.

I bought one off of ebay, I don't think you need the link. But if the local repair guy might be willing to sell you a screen only I would buy asap.
BUT as for the process, it sucked for me...
The screen does not work. Challenges were to glue the new screen and to find a good glue to use.
Please check your ribbon cable (the gold/coppar colored cable at the lower right corner (if you open your tab). Does it say GO1 or GO3 or neither.
Feel free to ask any questions...
You can get one on eBay and there are beautiful tutorials on YouTube showing how to repair it yourself
