no missing call or text bubble - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

So Today I had gotten a new pebble blue Galaxy s3 and it is newly updated to android 4.1.1. The problem is that now the original pop up notification on the lockscreen indicating the number of missed text/calls wont show. I am aware that I can delete the csc file in system in order to make it work again but seeing now how that it is on jb there is a new root method required and it will be a little difficult for me to do since as of now im using a mac. So for the time being is there any easier way to have the missed text/call bubbles to pop up on the lockscreen?

bump. Someone has to know how to help out =(

Use a windows vm and use odin that way...

Add me on Google Talk or Google+ and We'll talk about making a Flashable for you ^_^

All you have to do is rename the file with root explorer. I just add .bak. Will then need to delete Help apk and reboot or will keep getting the swipe help message on lockscreen.

Add these lines to the build.prop
ril.sales_code=LOL
ro.csc.sales_code=LOL
I did it and the annoying help thing didn't pop up!

Need a better mms app

Do anybody know of a better mms app other than the stock and handcent. I'm running DC.3.2.3 Rom the problem is that the stock mms compress the picture way to small. Handcent takes too long to send out the pictures as if it donot want to send. Gmail works perfect just cannot sent to a phone number.
Any suggesting

You can always try ChompSMS it's quite popular and very similar to Handcent.
This is the issue that really bugged me, I hated that the stock app couldn't send a file bigger than 14k and didn't like using chomp or handcent. If you are still looking for a more elegant solution, I might have a possible solution. I replaced the mms.apk file in the ROM I was about to flash with the vanilla one (attached) and after booting up it worked perfectly. I like the black background and when I attach a picture it doesn't compress it to crap. I just opened the zip file of the ROM with winrar and deleted the old mms.apk in the sys app folder and dropped the new one in its place. I realize this solution is less than ideal, and there is probably a better way with adb, but I figure soon enough you'll flash an updated ROM anyways.
Try pure messenger, almost like the sense one, almost.

@Nerovingian
Thank you! That was the exact thing I was searching for awhile ago, but people were pointing me towards handcent and chomp (which were overkill for what I wanted). I was looking for white on black background mms app. I don't like the stock because just about everything else in the evo is a dark theme. The mms was obnoxious black on white and was blinding if the lights were out where I was. I hope your app is kosher and will behave itself (if you know what I mean)....
I understand what you mean. If you have any doubt, there is am excellent post in the Android development forum that has all of the vanilla apks. Just search for vanilla topics and you should be golden.
Thanks for the tip
I was always under the impression that the apps compress in order to comply with file size limits per different carriers. Am I mistaken?

I got this
E: Wrong digest:
system/app/Mms.apk
E:Verification failed
Installation aborted
what did i do wrong? I'm running fresh 1.0.1 with amon recovery.
@supwidachew
It worked for me. I went where the original was and renamed it to mms.apk.old. Then I went to the other mms.apk and installed it. No copying. It had some message about replacing something and I just said ok. In the settings of the app, white text on black was checked but not working. I unchecked it then got out of menu and killed the app with a task manager. Started app again and went into settings and checked the box then backed out again. I think I might have done this maybe three or four times before it finally took. I haven't tried sending anything yet so I don't know what's different with that yet.

I have same rom as you but clockworkmod recovery. I didn't flash it, I installed it like any other apk downloaded (not from market )

So this is indeed better than the HTC Messaging app? It doesn't compress pictures horribly? and it still works? Does the sense widget with numbered notifications still work? Does the lock screen message preview still work? Does the status bar message preview still work? Thanks.
ahhh, ok. Let me install it and see how that works.
Allow me to elaborate on my process. I replaced the apk in the ROM file using winrar before I flashed the ROM (see picture to see where I replaced the file) using clockwork recovery, so I haven't tried to install it like a normal apk or through any other method. Since it is the vanilla apk it does not do the lock screen notification where sense shows it, although it does show in the notification bar while locked. Additionally, it does not compress the pictures horribly and I have tested sending and receiving, both which worked. I have only tested my method on Baked Snack 9.7, so I apologize if it does not work on your preferred ROM. Perhaps someone more experienced can offer a better method like using adb?

I'll try tomorrow and let you know. Nandroid is my friend.
If the icon you have on the home screen is the one that was dragged from the app drawer, the answer is no. At least in my setup it wasn't and not an option in settings either. There wasn't a mms widget either

I tried sending a 44kb sound file with the vanilla mms app. It refused to push it out. I tried installing handcent and chomp and try each of them and they both failed. I found where the mms app installed itself and deleted it. Then I renamed the old "mms.apk.old" to mms.apk, rebooted, then the file sent okay. Damn, I was kinda liking the other app too. Hmm, I wonder if I can have both the vanilla and the htc messaging apps installed.... I'm gonna try it now.

Nope, they want to over write each other. I gotta choose...

This does not have numbered notifications on the widget like sense. It has a notification icon in the task bar, it does not do task bar preview like sense. As far as lock screen I dont know.

Changing Background Stock SMS in Jelly Bean

Is there anyway to change the background color (white) of the stock SMS program in jelly bean? Coming from the high contrast black background from ICS's SMS program to a white background is a tough pill to swallow. And I really don't want to use an alternative SMS program if I can avoid it.
TIA

anyone?
hard time believing i'm the only one that finds this annoying!
Naw I'm with ya drives me nuts too. I still haven't found a solution though. Also bothers me that I have to use a 5 dollar launcher for unread count. You could try various skins on Apex/Nova launchers, though I havent found the right one yet
Decompile using a Appmanager and look for the background image to replace

I'm on Samsung Galaxy Note II, Jelly Bean 4.1.1 stock, I believe I've made changes but not sure how to get back to them. When I first go into the stock message app and see the list of message that I have, the background is black. I believe this used to be white. How can I get this back to white? I did have GO SMS installed but have uninstalled it an am back to stock messaging app. I know this is how to change it to black, but hoping I could get help for vice versa.
Interested also
I'm also quite interested about this issue. I have two DROID DNA phones. One let's me use my gallery and the other won't. Really strange.
You might wanna try this. I just combined some that are made by others so thanks to them. I'm really sorry I forgot their names.
it has white text on black background
Just flash the zip file:
Ill also attach the Mms.apk if you need it but its included on the zip file but i just want to upload it separately so yeah. <-- Noob here
And the screenshot is also there.

Does this replace the existing stock SMS app? Exist in addition to the stock app? Just theme the existing app? And would it be undone by any updates to gapps? Thanks.

Yes it would replace the stock sms app. Just check the gapps if it includes the mms.apk file. Usually it doesnt, maybe. If mms.apk is included in gapps then it would overwrite this but if not then this themed sms app would stay.

[Q] Disable SystemUI without disabling notifications?

greetings fellow XDA members.
need some professional help regarding the tabs' systemui.
i personally hate the system bar at the bottom, it takes up space which isnt really needed.
most of us would definitely accidentally pressed the buttons there while playing some games.
so what i usually do is to hide the system bar via honeybar.
problem is, no back home nor menu buttons. so i used an overlay. worked pretty well and soon enough i graduated to using GMD gesture control[awesome app]
now i have no system bar + freestyle gesture controls tailored to my own style.
the new problem is that since hiding the system bar simply kills systemui, i am unable to receive any notifications except toasts from su etc and using notification apps just doesnt work seamlessly like the systemui.
is there anyway to hide/kill system bar without killing the notification?
or better, is it at all possible to have a regular non tab status bar [aka top statusbar + pulldown notification] for our tab?
i apologize for being long winded, just trying to be detailed.
any help is appreciated. googling it gave diff answers not relating to tabs so im at a lost.
Only workable way I found was to
decompile framework-res.apk, track down dimens.xml and edit "status_bar_height" and "navigation_bar_height" = 0, depending on what dpi you use, I use 213 and that shows a combined bottom bar.
Its important to mention that since the combinedbar thinks its still there a transparent area still occupy the space when ex. in any dialogs that uses dimming you´ll see a area without dim, so esthetically all 3 backgroundDimAmount´s should be also set to 0 in /values/styles.xml.
Still any apps you open, will open in fullscreen and occupy entire screen..
There is a challenge if you dissable GMD, making it very difficult to return or manouver, unless I find a way to add back or home to the powermenu in CM9, which I haven´t yet..
This stops polluting catlog with systemui crashes every darn minute, wich bordered me from the beginning..
If you have ideas I am all ears
cheers!
thanks for the reply.
im a newbie when it comes to edting xml files, heck im not even sure how to decomompile the framework-res.apk but i'll tinker around for a lil bit and see what comes out of edting the files.
if its similar to editing xml files from within an apk, then i guess im safe since ive tinkered with an xml file that granted apps permission to save data to ext sd. thats a start i guess.
youve basically given me something to work with.
will get back here if i have any further queries or run into any problems with your stated workaround.

My framework is way to heavy slimmed for your likings, but I could rather make a specific one for your current os.
PS. there is some preparations:
1. you will need to setup GMD and assign home, back, show notifications and so on..(activate GMD notification icon (optional))
2. just in case, make important shortcuts on home to apps drawer, open notification, so on if GMD stops working
3. make a restore CMW package of current framework-res and SystemUI, you might change your mind
I have not mentioned this, but sometimes GMD will be unresponsive when waking up the device (worst case 20-30sec), therefore it is wise to have some sort of backup shortcuts of some kind if you can´t wait for it to restart..
(future focus : adding home or back to the powermenu if GMD would be switched off.)
If you are rooted and running the lastest CM10 (from Aorth) or CM10.1 rom, you can use the expanded desktop option:

Not sure about getting notifications, will have to try that out later...
Since you're using GMD gesture control, why not set it to disable the notification bar on some apps, but leave it open for others? You could, for example, run "fullscreen" in everything but your home screen if you wished, and just go there periodically for notifications. I also found that if you make a custom gesture to show notifications, it will both reactivate the notification bar and then pop the notifications out. You can use that gesture and then re-hide the bar manually.

As you say, he dosen´t show if notifications work, I will asume this still kills systemui in the background...

I experienced instability, it also consumes more battery when systemui is killed like this, and my logs got polluted with crash reports more or less every minute, therefore I looked for a solution to preserve both..

stock email lockscreen badge

ive done a lot of searching so im not feeling like there will be a fix for this but.... i was wondering if anyone has figured out how to make it so you get the bubble badge notifications on the lockscreen for the stock email app. i get them for missed calls texts like everyone else. i swear the first few days i had my phone the stock email would produce a bubble on the lockscreen. im rooted, unlocked running 4.1.2 stock. thanks in advance
I wonder if I copied the badge provider and maybe stock email .apk from someone's whose does work if that would do it
I guess its hopeless
Does anybody know what .APK is used or what processes are involved with making the notification bubbles appear on the lock screen
I don't ever remember getting bubble notifications for emails.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
it's in the csc folder, customer.xml. controls lockscreen bubbles. not sure if email is available
Okay thanks guys. Ill look at it and see if maybe I can add anything to it without f#$*&ng up my phone

Question Why does Google Messages look so different on the S22?

I have a P6P and Messages looks different firstly with the search bar being all the way at the top and not in the middle of the page and I cannot find some settings that are in Googles Messenger. Specifically, I am trying to change the notification sound to something other than the default sound, so I can know whether I got a text or an email without looking at the phone.
Anyone have ideas?
Samsung has a custom version of Google Messages that adheres to OneUI design guidelines, the goal being to make the elements at the top easier to reach with one hand by default. You should be able to get the other app by installing the APK manually, but I'm not sure if that will work with Google Messages now being a system app.
I know it stinks but in messages you can go into each contact to change the notification sound. I did about 30 and it didn't take too long.
open a contact and hit the 3 dots
hit details
hit notifications
hit sound
I think the worst part is the teal message bubble color and it not respecting the Samsung theme colors.

Go to settings, apps, messages, notifications, notification categories. Pick incoming or whatever and you can pick a sound for the whole app. I literally just found this myself. I'm also coming from a P6P. Sammy definitely made this way harder than it needed to be.

Thanks - it worked for me too
I was able to replace it with the normal version of Messages that I downloaded from apkmirror, but I had to uninstall the updates from the playstore first. Otherwise it detected I was trying to install the same version and wouldn't install.
It was great as I finally had iphone reactions. However, the playstore updated it back to the Samsung version. Ugh. Small differences but I hate the sammy version and once again lost iphone reactions.
