Working 3G kernel for TF300TG - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I just want to publish JB stock kernel for TF300TG with modem part writen by myself from zero.
I'm usind this kernel for a while and have no problems with 3G hangs, network lost stuff, etc.
ACM (AT control channel), POWER CONTROL and RAW IP NETWORK writen from zero.
Other code (RIL part and BASEBAND CHR for FW update) was not changed (bugfix only).
Installer can be found^

This is a plain stock kernel!

I hope when you share source code, developers will better support model t300tg. And I hope in the future to see a little overclocked version of the kernel. : P
Thanks again andrew_z1 for support kernel. Kernel version v3 is very stable.

Thank you for sharing. Hope this gets a working kernel for CM / AOSP based Roms as well.

Working flawlessy. It is a breathe, to find a person who supports 3g version of a tablet.
Maybe you could collaborate with other developers to widen support of TF300TG model.
Thanks a lot.

It's all depends on the developer. As for me, it would be great.

Great thanks!
I have the tf300tl LTE and im stuck with the stock kernel and the poor I/O performance
Is it possible to implement the 3G changes you announced in Untermensch kernel for example,
my dream is to have a kernel with good I/O performance and working 3g!!
thanks!

Can you please share the source code for this? With no great devs around to do stuff for the TG, it's left to each one of us to dabble a bit and see what we can do
Thanks

Do you mind if I include this in my kernel installer for CleanROM Inheritance?

Million thanks for this kernel :good:. I installed it with CleanROM Inheritance 3.4.4 on my TF300L. It works really fine with 3G. I'm not convinced about LTE, but unfortunately I do not have an LTE subscription yet. According to SpeedTest it works fine at around 10Mbps, which is the bandwidth I pay for currently.
Do you think you can make OC available in this kernel?

Does this kernel work on last cm tf300t, using a tf300tg device?

I doubt it as it is a stock kernel.

Can I use this kernel with the the stock ROM? I didn't switch to any custom ROM yet.
Edit: I guess sbdags already answered my question

[Q] TF101G recovery and custom rom

Hi to all, i've rooted my tf101g (b90) with nacho method.
which recovery is work good for my device? I see only recovery for tf101 but not for tf101G.
The same problem with custom rom.
The recovery and custom rom for tf101, work with my tf101g? I dont need 3g inside the device.
Anyone can explain me which recovery and custom rom work for my device?
Tnks in advance. (Sorry for my bad english) and the noob questions.
Ok, for the recovery i've installed the rouge 1.3.0 (cwm based) recovery with a simpli app. And the recovery work correct (i've used the search button correctly)
But i need a custom rom compatibility list for 101G. Please
Revolver has 3g zip file you flash after the rom i would read the op for revolver its a nice rom imo
Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
Most roms have 3g cooked in now, and as far as recovery tf101 and tf101G are compatible. My recovery preference is the Rouge XM recovery, since it reads internal and external SD card. As far as ROMS, just make sure it supports 3G (like said, most do) I recommend ARHD or Revolver if you like the stock rom, and Megatron or AOKP if you like cm9/aosp roms.

I've downloaded revolver and megatron last roms (i'm search now for wowking kernels without bug).
If i try flash a custom rom without 3g, the tablet work? I dont use 3g because i use the tablet indoor and i have wifi always on!
I'm curious to try new roms.. I need overclock and max compatibility with games!
The tablet will work without 3g just fine, but 3g should work anyway on most roms.
The most stable kernel for me is the TestyMehIcs kernel,
I also had great stability with Guevor's 17c kernel, and his 19.3 kernel.
Both can overclock to around 1.6Ghz.

Hi nancho root does not work with firmware 9.2.2.4 on the Asus TF101G. Neither does viperboy ( which is just a script for nacho root). I think the only way to root mine is to downgrade to an earlier version of firmware.
I suppose Asus keeps changing the firmware to block the new rooting methods.
I am a linux developer so I will try and figure something out.
Thanks,

I'd say Android Revolution HD or Revolver, I have no idea if either are still supported though, or if any stock based roms have updated to JB.

If you want multi-user, you will have to deviate from stock. The stock ROM (and ARHD/Revolver) are still on ICS 4.0.3.
IMO, TeamEOS 4 is quite stable. It is 4.2.2 and I beleive with PPP Widget you can use the 3G functionality to some degree, but not the same as stock. Part of the reason this is not working perfectly in JB is because the stock ROM for the TF101G never went to JB (nor did the TF101).
Hi
If I rooted my TF101G with [TOOL]"1-Click Transformer Root"-Root/Unroot/cwm/stock rec-TF101(G)/201/300T(G)/SL101 and install Rouge recovery can i flash my pad with Android Revolution HD ?

FAQs
Q:I know that CM10.1 use the Phone UI by default but it's still possible to switch to the Tabled UI?
No.And don't whine to the developer about it (do it with Google ) this won't change.
Q: I want to go back to a Jelly Bean 4.1.1 rom,do i have to downgrade the bootloader?
No,the 4.2.1 bootloader is backwards compatible but it's not recommended to use a 4.1 bootloader with a 4.2.1 rom.
Q: I can't find the Developer Option anymore,it's gone?
It's not gone, just go in Settings --> About Tablet --> Press 7 times on Build Number...done
Q: I can't find the advanced power options anymore (reboot to recovery, bootloader, etc).
You can enable all those options in Settings --> Developer Option --> Advanced Reboot
Q: I enabled all the options in the Power Menu but i still don't have the Advanced Power Menu ( i.e. Reboot to recovery) when pressing the Power button.
Unlock your screen before pressing the Power button, the advanced Power Menu is always disabled from the Lockscreen.
Q:I would like to use the build-in CM Update feature but i'm not using the CWM recovery, can i use TWRP instead?
Yes,TWRP will work just fine.

It seem that Asus did some changes to the CFQ scheduler on the 4.2.1 kernel (don't ask me about tech details) and improved it a bit.But no matter wich scheduler is set by default you are still free to choose the one that suite you best and set it on boot.
Any recommendations on disabling HW overlays, or forcing GPU rendering?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk HD
Nevermind on the HW overlays. I've been playing with the I/O settings, and Quadrant seems to like ROW more than CFQ for some reason. I'll run it in the meantime.
Coming from a clean install, you can absolutely notice the kernel performance improvements. I'm a happy camper!

I can find the SPYD/3.1 in the list, but can't se the option to enable the data compression proxy. Maybe I have to change the language to English to find it, lol.
Nevertheless the latest nightly is a huge improvement over the previous ones! Good job!
One question though, is it possible to disable fsync in the "stock" CM10.1 kernel? At least for me the disabled fsync on stock ROMs made the tf700 fly.

You can't disable Fsync with the default CM10.1 kernel, you will need a custom kernel .As for the Data2SD I'm sure that someone will implement it soon and I will update the OP with all the infos and links.

I was looking through source today, CFQ didn't seem to change, but there were many changes on the board-cardhu*.c files, including memory locations, etc. This is what is probably allowing CFQ to work more efficiently than in previous iterations of the kernel.
So to install this from CROMI I need to do a full wipe then put this and the correct GAPS then install via TWRP?

[Q] 4.3 Kernel w/ Data2SD support?

Title kind of says it all, I have heard of folks in a few posts for 4.3 based roms mention just running a kernel with Data2SD built in. Bryce's kernel is the only 4.3 kernel i have found and it does not appear to have data2sd included....
4.3 runs pretty well without it but it would be nice to have.

That's kernel version 6 kind of supports 4.3 and has preinit support built in which means with a small script you can set the mount points for data2sd before android boots.

I used it on CM10.2 as did that. The new version is 4.3 compatible as it says in the changelog. Although he didin't put it in the first post it is near the end of the thread. You also need to inject his modules into CM.

[Q] cromi-x and cm11

Hi,
I've been using cromi-x rom for several months (v5.2.3 with kernel thatv7 and fsync off) and it run really fine. I even don't consider to install data2sd or rom2sd as performance already meets my needs due to fsync off.
But i'm a curious man and i'm interested in testing another rom : cm11. But i have few questions about that (i did not find answers in existing threads) :
- does cm11 correct the tf700 i/o issue (with sync off for example) and will i get as good performance than on cromi-x ?
- i have TWRP installed but CM requires CWR. Which one is compatible with both roms (so that i can easily switch back from one rom?to the other) ?
Thanks

I doubt it since essentially it is hardware related (cheap memory) and I doubt that the CM team found a better way to mitigate it than sbdags.

TWRP 2.6.3.2 also works with CM11. It also seems to work fine with CROMi-X.
sbdgas just modded the rom2sd2 script to run CM11 as rom2sd with _thatv7 on internal. Somebody else tried the same scenario with Hund's kernel - both ran like syrup it seems....
But give it a shot running CM11 on internal with TWRP 2.6.3.2! That's what nandroids are for

As far as I understand, the solution was to put fsync to off. Maybe CM has also implemented that solution, but I don't find any information about that on CM thread / website.

Yep you're right, I see that there is a thread explaning that, I will read it and try to apply it. I'll give news about my testing but that will take a few days probably as i'm very busy at the moment at home.
I've read the dual-boot internal+external rom thread and it needs a linux machine which i don't have. Could i do that gparted configuration with a live-linux CD ?
And about performance, does the option "fsync off" exist in CM11 ? If not then i don't expect good performance/no-lag like on CROMI-X and i would be then not interested to test CM.

Not all kernels that support f sync off support cm11, the only cm11 kernel besides the stock cyanogen mod one is bryce09's and that still has bugs. CM 11 with the build.prop tweaks, clean master, lagfix, and crossbreeder give performance better then CROMI-X with no overclock.

The Stable ET v2.0 for Cromi X!

Warning: This is the Experimental Tweaks (ET) on hund's kernel v3.4.5 for hardcore users and tinkers only and tested on Cromi X v5.4. If you want a stable kernel, you can use Hund's kernel v3.4.5 from his original post below please. PLEASE STOP HERE IF YOU ARE NOT THEM, THANKS.
Hund's kernel is developed by Hundsbuah and you can find more information here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2143093
I am running this ET for a while and have 6 testers on this ET too. It is very stable and fast in my opinion. Let me know if you are running into any issue or bug, thanks.
Preparation:
1. Backup your whole device in the TWRP and backup all your personal files to your external SD or your computer, just in case.
2. Remove any UV/OV scripts from the init.d folder before installing this tweaks
3. Remove the Fsync script from the init.d folder if any
4. Go to the Asus customized setting and Uncheck the "Enable smart backlight adjuster"
5. Download the correct ET zip for your file system below
Installation:
1. Reboot to your TWRP or custom recovery
2. Install the zip
3. Have fun...
Setting for this ET:
--Power Saving Mode: CPU/GPU: 1.1G/520M, Balance Mode: 1.4G/520M, and Performance Mode: 1.7G/700M
--Interactive Governor and SIO Scheduler
--Westwood TCP Congestion Control
--Fsync off
--CPU temperature throttle at 70 Celsius
--Power Saving Mode is setup for games. You can run most of games in this mode.
--Balance Mode is a daily usages beside gaming.
--Performance Mode is not for games except for daily usages. I am only playing games in this mode during the Winter because it is also my portable heater...
I have the f2fs for Data2sd on the data partition that I am running if you need it please let me know so I can upload it for you.
Problems: For some reasons that your device is not booting, you may want to restore your system backup only and you should be up running from your previous setup...
Zip files:
---hund-v3.4.5_ET-v1.13.8_ext4 - For your internal data running ext4 file system.
---hund-v3.4.5_ET-v1.13.8_f2fs - For your internal data running f2fs file system.
Update: v1.13.9 should run roughly about 7 degree Celsius cooler than the v1.13.8 without suffering any performance loss which gives more battery life...
Update 1: If you are running f2fs on the internal /data partition, please install the ET_v1.13.10_f2fs. There is a bug in both ET-v1.13.8_f2fs and ET-v1.13.9_f2fs. It could cause some issues with data corruption.
Update 2: ET_v1.13.12 has very good battery life and very smooth....
Update 3: V2.0 should work properly without any bug and stable. Battery life should be better. For some reasons that your device does not run as smooth and fast as other users. You may want to update to the latest ET "build.prop". Good lucks and have fun.... Jelly Bean is probably end of life and this version may be the last release because I am getting bored with tweaking this device. I hope that I will see you in another Forum and see you all....

I have a data2sd zip using f2fs that I can upload for you now but if you need f2fs for the internal data, you have to wait until Monday when I am back home to use my PC...

Not sure this will work on a 201 without some extra changes to the kernel. Flumpster used to mess around with hunds to get it working properly.

Not yet as I use CROMi-X as my work machine so I have to re-secure the kernel and unroot it due to our draconian policies.
But I will diff your changes and look at porting them over to combi-kk Which I use as my play machine as ROM2SD

Thanks for a feedback...:good: It is a good start without any issue. You are the second testers using the f2fs on internal data with "discard" mounting option enable.. Some users reported that they have issue with booting when "discard" are enable on Kitkat Rom using f2fs. That is worry me a bit. For performance, it should be at least the same as your previous setup but it is more likely better... I am tweaking on wifi a lot and see improving on a large file download. Please pay attention in that area and report back. I have a mix feedback about wifi improvement from my testers. Some said it is better and some said it is the same. One said it is worst than before, haha. I don't know what is the true result...
About the tf201, I saw hund source code including the tf201 but the kernel is using higher OV for CPU/GPU setting. You may want to adjust the voltages to your needs for the tf201, good luck...:fingers-crossed:

I am at the airport right now and don't have any access to my PC. I will take a look into it when I am home. BTW, I don't know anything about tf201 but I will look into it. The best bet is to ask the question on hundsbuah post. You can get there with the link on post #1.
Edit:
Do you see any performance improvement so far with this ET?

Possible kexecboot with data2sd?
Hey, I extracted the kernel (zImage) and ramdisk (initrd.img) from the zip (blobunpack and unpackbootimg) so that I can use it with kexecboot menu for linux multiboot, but it does not start Android (I have a data2sd setup). That10 boots fine in a setup like this, but I want to use the ET
Any ideas?

Does it work with the earlier ET version? I just updated my crosstool chain and may changed somethings in the kenel configure setting. I will take a look at it when I am back from my business trip....

Yes it worked with earlier Versions (The one you sent me for testing and old old published ET). Might be that you deactivated kexec in the config? (Just a guess)
