[Q] GT-N8013 UEALI3 Stock Recovery Dump - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a USA Galaxy Note that has been updated to UEALI3 and was rooted with chainfire's enos exploit app. I would like to dump the stock recovery partiton but I can not get it to work. I have run this command in terminal...
su
cat proc/mtd
At this point I'm told file dose not exist. I also used...
su
dd if=recovery-partiton of=/sdcard/recovery.img
This says my path is invalid. Please help, it seems many people are looking for this stock recovery for future OTA updates. I would like to provide it so it can be packaged into a Odin flashable *.tar for them and for my future use incase I want a Nandroid backup with CWR.

74 views and still no one has a answer? The recovery partiton is said to be one of the easiest to dump... I only need the revised command to enter into terminal, come on guys!

[DEV] Custom Recovery P500/Thunderg

Full release post is here and I'll update at xda soon.
http://androidforums.com/lg-optimus...ry-optimus-one-p500-thunderg.html#post1896517
I got all the bugs worked out thanks alahkel & fughy for testing and of course Amon-Ra for original source.
New link version 2.2.1 Version 2.2.1
New version 3.06 Version 3.06
Thanks to you for the whole great work you've done!
We really appreciate that.
really GREAT WORK !!!!
Please, i need some info, how use adb on P500.
Absolute AWESOME!!!
Thanks!
Thanks !
works like a charm. I have installed your custom recovery. Backed up everything with nandroid, tried KeruROM, flashed back my original branded ROM from nandroid backup.
Everything works. I'm not going to try flash back my original recovery mtd, there is no reason to do it, but have a dd backup just in case. I don't know if it is safe to tamper with recovery mtd, cause I'm not sure if it is re-flashed after every system shutdown. I don't think so, cause I haven't found recovery.img in /system.
I have two questions regarding flashing custom recovery. I haven't used this command:
Code:
# mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak
cause, i didn't found this script on my phone. Is it ok?
Second question: Is it mandatory to copy flash_image to /system/bin with this command?
Code:
cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image
Can't we use /data/local/tmp directory and running flash_image from there as we used in the process of rooting the phone? This way we don't have to remount /system in rw and do not have to modify it.
Now I'm going to explore ROM modding ;-)

Flash_image doesn't have to be there but for simplicity I put it there so it would be in ATH. The install-recovery.sh is an evil script that will rewrite a recovery on boot with stock recovery(that only is there on some phones after an official ota update) so rom markers please remove it if it exists.
Any chance the p509 optimus t is similar enough for this to work? I'm willing to be the guinea pig if it should work.

Its close enough it has a very good chance of working but will take a guinea pig to verify. Kernel should be close enough to try. Only differences I saw in the ramdisk of p500 & p509 was model number and lang of en GB and en Us repectively. I had a bad/corrupt dump to work off of on the p509/T. I could use a good dump source with a md5sum to verify its not corrupted in uploading/downloading.
make sure you do this 1st to backup your stock recovery
from terminal or adb shell
Code:
dd if=/dev/mtd/mtd2 of=/sdcard/recovery-dump-T.img bs=4096
please upload that dump for me with a md5 too and I'll work on an official.
Can it be done without root? As normal user?
Thanks of all to drellisdee
I want to advertise that the custon recovery file is no more available at Media fire link that suggest us.
Waiting that the file will be restored is there someone that can upload it???
Thank's of all!!!
Are you just wanting kernel & recovery dumps, because I think I've already changed most other things on my system
Installs, starts off saying E:Bad boot message "
Button layout is correct.
Usb mounting works.
Wipe appears to have worked.
Backup fails with Error:Run 'nandroid-mobile.sh' via adb!
I was looking for just the custom recovery (recovery-RA-GNM-thunderg-1.1.0.img.zip). Now it's available again!!!!
I think that i 've to apply it anyway.
Then if you say that some new rom and kernel are incoming it could be great!!!!
I hope to learn the necessary to help in development ... in this time i accept your works...

[RECOVERY] Reverting to original(STOCK) recovery

WARNING: IN THE EVENT THAT ANYTHING GOES WRONG, I WILL NOT BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH!!!
EDIT: I FORGOT, BEFORE CHANGING RECOVERY OR DOING ANYTHING, ALWAYS DO A NANDROID BACKUP!!!
If you have flashed a custom recovery (clockwork, j_r0dd, etc.) but you want to
1) accept OTA updates but cant do so with the custom recovery
2) send your phone for repair and not void your warranty
3) or UNROOT YOUR PHONE,
it should be easy to revert back to your stock recovery that came with your phone.
NOTE: THIS PROCEDURE WILL ONLY WORK IF THERE IS AN AVAILABLE OTA UPDATE FOR YOUR PHONE!!!
YOU WILL HAVE TO RE-ROOT YOUR PHONE IF YOU WANT ROOT ACCESS AFTER UPDATING! DO NOT RE-ROOT IF YOUR PHONE IS TO BE SENT FOR REPAIR!
Step 1) Download the OTA update. (I have a uploaded a sample update zip at
www . sidsoftinc . com / Blur_Version.0.3.9.MB300.Retail.en.03.zip
*remove the spaces)
Step 2) On completion, the phone should reboot and enter recovery mode, using the custom recovery to update. However, this should fail as most custom recoveries prevent original updates. Note the location of the downloaded update (likely at /cache)
Step 3) Power down the phone and enter into recovery mode manually
Step 4) Using ADB, pull the folder containing the update zip to your computer
Code:
adb pull /**storedlocation**/**nameoftheupdate**.zip update.zip
Step 5) Open the update.zip in your adb folder and look for a file called recovery.img (most likely in system folder)
Step 6) Open up the adb shell and flash the new recovery (recommended)
Code:
adb shell
su
flash_image recovery recovery.img
or you can place it in /system and it will be auto-flashed (not recommended)
Code:
adb push recovery.img /system/recovery.img
Step 7 (if possible) Make it permanent by deleting the custom recovery in /system
Code:
adb shell
cd system
su
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system
rm recovery.img
mount -o ro,remount /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system
exit
exit
Step 8) Reboot the phone and if you see a triangle warning sign, reboot your phone again. You should see your homescreen before it reboots to install the update again. This time, the original recovery will be used.
Once finished, your phone will be upgraded, unrooted and your applications and data will still be retained.
If you wish to install your previously used custom rom again, you must flash the custom recovery and install the rom, again
If I made a mistake, please do inform me. Thank you
I'm trying to do this for the Tmo G2 and I have reverted using another technique but the clockworkmod is still there. I thought it would get removed!
I have no idea how to get rid of it. Can you give me alittle help?
Did your clockworkmod recovery flash itself into your nv ram. If so then no one can help you there. If you have an ota update and pulled it to your pc, send me a coy and I'll see if I can help you. If you can, send me your ota update zip to [email protected].
Sent from my Motorola Backflip using the XDA App
I'm honestly unsure if it flashed to the nv-ram. Possibly, basically if I do a system boot (power +vol down) and select recovery, it will load the HTC green text with white background then go into clockword recovery. I'm not exactly sure why it still does this.
I used the method on this FORUM THREAD to un-root and get back to stock (using the available files there and method 1-a). I'm just unsure why the clockwork recovery is still there. I'm hoping I can still get back to stock recovery. Possibly I just need to flash the stock recovery.img??
Also, I had some troubles initially with ADB, which is why I used the VISIONary method of rooting. I'd love to try out the gfree method since I believe my ADB is working correctly now and test out some other roms to see what I like the most.
I know you are probably in a different time zone that is way ahead of mine........but can't I just reflash the stock or update ota recovery.img in fastboot mode.......OR is this a bad Idea???
Many users have accidently accepted ota updates on custom rims and recoveries. for fastboot, I did mention that flashing stock recovery and update is possible via adb shell.

I tried flashing the stock recovery but I'm not sure why it didn't work, I had hboot and flash_image. I used the adb shell way as well. It gave me error in partitions or whatever. I don't know what to do.
do you have Blur_Version.0.3.10.MB300.Retail.en.03.sbf file?
I dont happen to have that file, but i do have Blur_Version.0.3.9.MB300.Retail.en.03.zip
if you need it.
Cockwork Mod
I'm pretty green so this may sound really dumb, but can you flash sbf files to your phone via Clockwork Mod, or does it have to be done via RSD Lite. I cannot get RSD to recognize my device in 4.7 or 4.8. Please help.
do you have a stock image for the huawei ascend for cricket or does anyone here have it?
Unrooting......
I download the RECOVERY file you supplied (thank you)
"Blur_Version.0.3.9.MB300.Retail.en.03.zip"
If I reboot into Recovery and just flashed that zip file, would it work that way to unroot?
Provided you are flashing on a MOTOROLA BACKFLIP, yes. However, you might want to flash the AT&T 2.1 update for the backflip instead, if you reside in the US. Flashing back any official firmware unroots your phone
I'm looking to root and unlock my AT&F Motorola Backflip (MB300).. Any suggestions?

OTA for Samsung Galaxy Ace is a CFG file, not ZIP
Hello,
Just for interest, I received an OTA for my Samsung Galaxy Ace but it didn't come as a ZIP file - it came as a CFG file (which is not a ZIP, but actually a proprietary package - which I can't remember the name right now).
However, I did find the stock recovery elsewhere in this forum, and I installed it. But that wasn't enough for the OTA to be installed - it still fails.
Corrupted?

Trying to unroot Xperia Z2
I am trying to unroot using update files from the Sony Xperia Companion. I found the update files (I think). I used Flashtool to decrypt the FILESET, but there is no recovery.img in the decrypted folder. The folder I decrypted is in Xperia Companion/Sony Mobile Update Engine/localstorage/db/13740270 and that is the only folder that has decryptable files. They are named FILE_8977018 and similar before decryption and various .sin .ta files (examples auto-boot.ta, cust-reset.ta, simlock.ta). Am I using the right decryption to get the recovery.img?

[HOWTO] Unlocking i9505G bootloader

This will Wipe every thing on the internal storage SO BACKUP your stuff on the SD card and maybe the onto computer too
This is for the Google edition of the Galaxy S4
Go To setting / about phone /
Tap "Build Number" 7 times
Go back to Main Settings Menu and under now shown "Developer Options" enable "USB debugging"
Download this
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html#download
extract to the C drive in the folder adb (you can move it anywhere just adjust the path)
run "SDK Manager.exe"
in the extras select "Google USB Drivers"
click "Install 1 package" and accept license / Install
now go into the device manager on you PC and change the "Samsung ADB driver" to the
"Android Composite ADB Interface" located in this folder
C:\adb\sdk\extras\google\usb_driver
you will have to force that driver to install by selecting it
let it finish installing the drivers
then
unplug and then plug in the USB on the phone
your phone will ask you about "Allow USB debugging?"
check the box "always allow from this computer"
click OK on your phone
If this doesn't work the some thing is wrong with the drivers and reinstall the drivers make sure you select "Android Composite ADB Interface" and not "Android ADB Interface"
Now open up a command prompt (I did this as "run as administrator")
type "cd C:\adb\sdk\platform-tools" (or what ever the directory you extract your files)
enter this command
adb reboot bootloader <enter>
Once in bootloader,
In the command prompt type:
fastboot oem unlock <enter>
It will ask you to unlock you phone and this may void you warranty
Use the volume buttons to change to yes and the power button as enter
At this point everything gets wiped on your phone
The phone rebooted back into bootloader and it now said "bootloader=unlocked" and the bottom left of the screen
Reboot the phone and the unlock icon will appear on the 1st Google screen.
the phone will boot into android like it was new
I have not done any ODIN on my phone so i don't know how this affect it
I am trying to avoid ODIN and get the phone rooted and have a custom recovery on it.
I just did this on my phone and typed this up i think everything is accurate let me know if i need to adjust anything.
fyi the command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" don't work because the system is still secure boot enable.
Thanks and Questions
Thanks. Could you please tell where you found this info?
Also, I'm not that experienced and don't understand why this is necessary. Don't our GT-i9505G phones come with unlocked boot loader?

It still needs to perform fastboot oem unlock just like nexus device does
Sent using GT-i9505~
This is what i did on my galaxy nexus device (nexus 3) and my friend nexus one
I made this from my notes of the old devices
my experience is that i could mess up my phone and lock me out of it it, so i wanted to be sure i could fix it, that is why i did this
I did not try to use fastboot beforehand, so it could work.
but i have a feeling that the ODIN flash changed the bootloader (probably not)
but i have been screwed buy a odin flash messing with the bootloader on the vibrant( but for some reason there looked to be 3 bootloader on that device)
if some one want to try it
just put the ClockworkMod 6.0.3.3 recovery file the
C:\adb\sdk\platform-tools
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot boot recovery.img
this dose take 1 minute after the file is sent to reboot and load
I have tried TWRP but it don't load past the first screen.
This just boots into the file and doesn't change anything
access to the sd cards don't work
I am tempted to flash ClockworkMod but i would like to pull a copy of the recovery first.
BTW after paying $700 for a phone i want to be sure to be able to reinstall the OS, like on a PC.

Maybe you can do a full dump for the community.
before you install custom recovery, I'd like to ask if you could do complete system dump of your device, including stock recovery (recovery.img), stock bootloader (boot.img) and system.img . It would be a big help to the community. You can do it simple after rooting with for example Motochopper exploit (described here http://whatswithtech.com/how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-s4/ )
Then something like this:
Code:
for gaining root access type: su
then:
copy BOOT -> dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p20 of=/sdcard/boot.img bs=4096
copy HIDDEN -> dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p27 of=/sdcard/hidden.img bs=4096
copy PARAM -> dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p19 of=/sdcard/param.bin bs=4096
copy RECOVERY -> dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p21 of=/sdcard/recovery.img bs=4096
copy SYSTEM -> dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p16 of=/sdcard/system.img bs=4096
Thanks a lot!
System Dump
Plus One on the system dump. There are a lot of knowledgeable people waiting to help as soon as they have this. I don't know enough to do it and did try CWM (which doesn't work, by the way.)
Hope you are able to help. Thanks

cool thank i was looking for that info
Just i couldn't get su to work in adb
I have been able to get Supersu (also tried superuser) on the phone but it complains about the su binaries (busybox in superuser) not being installed i have tried to install it using the market app (which said i am rooted) but i get no popup on the system.
i might try a wipe to see if that fixed it. (i did flash root to the system so it should still be there after a wipe)
first root, then system dump
unless someone knows how to do a system dump without root? or temp root solution.
I will look into the motochopper later today
you don't need "su" to work in adb shell, if you run "adb root" and "adb remount" with a modified adbd binary (inside CWM for example) you will have root access.
pls try out this root zip I just made, maybe it will work

Download ClockworkMod 6.0.3.3 NORMAL from below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2359132&highlight=recovery
aka Miustone_CWM_flash-NORMAL.zip
extract the recovery.img to the folder "C:\adb\sdk\platform-tools"
Now open up a command prompt (I did this as "run as administrator")
type "cd C:\adb\sdk\platform-tools" (or what ever the directory you extract your files)
enter this command
adb reboot bootloader <enter>
Once in bootloader,
In the command prompt type:
fastboot boot recovery.img (this takes 1min to load after the file is sent)
This will boot into ClockworkMod
goto "install zip"
goto "install zip from sideload"
in the cmd type
adb sideload root.zip
This sends to the phone and write to the phones Rom.
Now reboot and we have root without ODIN on a I9505G
BTW my file was missing busybox in the xbin i was playing around with "CWM-SuperSU.zip" as a base
It is kind of late so i may have missed some things in this write up.
Now off to the system dump.

ok i had some issues with viewing the files on the phone
i moved them to the sdcard and then pulled them off the card on my pc using a "sd to usb"

and is there any issues with posting this info on this forum
so far this only has root
i did notice that clockworkmod did give me access to root but i couldn't find the sd card while fastbooting it.
I don't think that the whole bootloader is part of what i backup, I thought there was a sbl.bin that i need too.

I maybe wrong in this, but I have played with fastboot on my ex HTC device. the proper command to flash recovery is
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
the proper command to flash kernel is
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
with
Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img
, the recovery isn't permanent. it will be only be there for the current session. after rebooting, the stock recovery will overwrite the custom recovery. the same goes to kernel.

i did notice that clockworkmod did give me access to root but i couldn't find the sd card while fastbooting it.
I don't think that the whole bootloader is part of what i backup, I thought there was a sbl.bin that i need too.

NONE of this would pull anything of relation from the I9505G (except System - mmcblk0p16) as our partitions layout is completely different. And more so, it would softbrick your 9505 if you tried flashing.
Check out here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2360346 - for a system dump from the i9505G. It has SYSTEM/BOOT/RECOVERY. Param and Hidden are both empty on our phones. This has already been used a couple times to cook roms for other S4 devices.

Since my backup might mess people up i am not going to post it.
but as a backup i will make a full backup of all the mmcblk0pxx file
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0pxx of=/storage/extSdCard/dump/mmcblk0pxx.img bs=4096
i think there is like 20 files
Those with a real I9505G google edition samsung, do u have an option in settings to always have the lightkeys light up when screen is on? The menu and the back key, that light up.
hmmm followed step bye step but phones boot loader is still locked
i do have Super User access tho
edit: fail on my part. everything worked smoothly! thanks man!

[ROM] H910: FULL return to stock v10q

If you just don't want root, or your need to sell your phone, or whatever, you can use this to return your phone to stock v10q:
Flash this zip from TWRP. This is every piece of the v10q firmware: h910_10q_full_stock.zip
SHA1: 720f122605dda361b8d8de1abaa8a56326416056
Wipe Cache/Dalvik Cache
Format data
Reboot
That is it. Your phone will be bone stock v10q.
If you want to root again after you flash this, use this procedure.

I flashed the system that went well when I flash the return to stock zip it ends with Error 1

What version of TWRP? I tested this on 3.1.1
I also have 3.1.1 .... I tried flashing from internal storage and SD card I did also check the SHA1's to make sure they match and they do. So what's the SHA1 out of the system image itself just to make sure it's correct once it's unzipped (considering I don't have a computer so I'm using my phone to extract the image)
Sent from my LG-H910 using Tapatalk
I'm also getting error 1 trying to install the zip. TWRP 3.1
Unzip failed. Aborting...
Updater process ended with ERROR: 1
Error installing zip ...
Updating partition details...
...done
Would a log from TWRP of the failed flash help I can go try and Flash again and then copy the log if that will help
Sent from my LG-H910 using Tapatalk
Well crap -- it must be a bad upload. I will upload a new copy in a bit.
Thanks @deadguyperez for the exact error: Unzip failed -- that means it is a bad zip.

Please don't forget to fix this I'm running WETA and it's fan-****ing-tastic so I'll probably never go back to stock but just in case I need to.... would be nice to have the files. Thanks boss! Stay safe.
Yea, dealing with the damage from Irma, but I should be back in shape by Wednesday.

@op have you had the chance to work on this any more? I'm excited to get back to full stock if possible so I can warranty out my phone. Front Camera and Accelerometer both don't work anymore...
Does this relock the bootloader as well?

First post updated with HOPEFULLY fixed zips. Since my H910 is currently my test bed for LAF research, it is bone stock so I can't test these. The worst that will happen is that you get an error. If so, PM me, or @ mention me in this thread so I can work with you to find out what is wrong.

@runningnak3d I got this error: Updater process ended with ERROR: 1. Error installing zip file /sdcard/download/v10m_return_to_stock.zip
Any ideas?
Also - The 5GB system.img file loads extremely quick. Seems sketchy to me, but maybe that's normal?
EDIT - I'm running TWRP 3.0.2-1 and it does say that the system image flashed properly. That much has been completed.

Got past the error and booted into Android by using ADB to flash all the files in the return_to_stock zip. It was tedious, but I typed out the list for anyone who just wants to copy and paste each line into their CLI.

Crap. There must not have been a problem with the zip, but a typo in the Edify script.
Sorry about that, I probably missed a ; some place.
Obviously I'm lost so maybe someone can help me
1) 1st LG android phone and so far I'm worried. Phone is beautiful I got it for a $100 due to the camera lens glass being shattered.
2) I'm looking for which variant I have. I own the at&t v20 which number is that?
3) I'm looking for how to root the phone and boot loader. Is it currently possible? Which method can/should I use because the entire V20 section isn't broken down like the galaxy note.
Really appreciate all your time
About to give this a try so....
Step 1 flash System Image
Step 2 Flash Return to stock
Step 3 Reboot and Profit?

That's the way to do it. Someone earlier tried but the return to stock zip errored out in twrp. Possibly a broken script.

How to extract recovery.img from the ASUS firmware? [7.0/8.0] [ZE552KL/ZE520KL]

Hello guys, some time ago this device had more support from developers, someone could extract the recovery.img in order to keep it updated.
I wonder if anyone would know what the procedure is for extracting.
My device is the ZE552KL (Z012D).
I followed the steps in this tutorial, however, I did not succeed: https://tinyurl.com/yd3w4pxa
I followed all the steps and tried to extract recovery.img from the Zenfone 3 ZE552KL (Z012D) Asus firmware, however, there was a problem after applying the applypatch directive.
Error: patch boot.img: Only patches to EMMC targets are supported.
And I can not solve it.
install-recovery.sh (original extraction): https://hastebin.com/lupoqovila.bash
install-recovery.sh (change): https://hastebin.com/ofuqofezat.bash
Apllypatch directive used at the prompt: applypatch -b recovery-resource.dat boot.img recovery.img 28e9d4088f51c9dafb9189eb15f061c78be55a57 18791676 4a9f7c48e01aed3a46ac8d06618239dff9834caf: recovery-from-boot.p

I also asked for help at Zentalk, but so far no one has spoken.
https://www.asus.com/zentalk/tw/thread-147621-2-1.html
Please, I'll be grateful if anyone can help.
The recovery partition is #59, therefore to back it up you can use terminal emulator and type;
Su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p59 of=/sdcard/recovery.img
To flash, go to fastboot and type
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Fastboot reboot
You need root for all this. You can convert the recovery image to be flashable via recovery but it only works with twrp, not stock.

Thanks for taking note of my question, but what I really need to know is about recovery stock. It would not be logical for my use to perform custom recovery extraction, since it is already found in the .img format from the developer's available links (TWRP).
Following the tutorial steps of the links I indicated it is possible to make a kind of compilation using the official OTA file, processing on the device itself to generate the file recovery.img stock.
Again thank you for trying to help, any and all help is very welcome.
+1
Can someone post here stock recovery.img for ze520kl newest oreo firmware?
I'd like to know how to do this as well. I went through a lot of trouble to get Oreo installed after rooting and installing TWRP on my phone running Nougat, ended up having to go back to stock and install updates incrementally. As you noted, root is required to save the stock recovery.img, but since my device is not rooted now I can't root without installing TWRP first. That would put me in the same situation as the OP. The google translate of the link posted by the OP is a bit hard to understand, can someone else give an english explanation of how to extract recovery.img from firmware zip?
TIA
Update: I managed to follow the instructions in the OP's link, ended up with a similar applypatch command as he did and also encountered the same error with running the command over adb. I'm not sure if those instructions are for all asus devices, the one in the link is Asus P028 (Zenpad 10)
applypatch -b recovery-resource.dat boot.img recovery.img f448eeec56d4d87173858cd7aec25c36a7dfaaa7 18736380 9ebabd3eb6a59cfcaf0f4f048e2d8d6d870d7924:recovery-from-boot.p

when I type su and enter, on adb shell show error "/system/bin/sh: su: not found". my device is unrooted. I did this for boot and recovery backup before rooting. I'm using Zenfone x00rd (Live L1)
