I been playing with roms on my sensation for a long long time now. I have tried probally every rom there is. Some days il try 5 diff roms in an evening. Its almost a hobby to me now. I am currently using ViperS. I also prefer sense roms over aosp and aokp roms. Whenever i have tried jellybean roms like cm10 etc. It is so fast. So smooth. Unreal. Then after playing with it. I go flash viperS or elgencia. Whatever and its back to clicking an app or going through a menu and waiting 3 seconds or so for it to open. A sluggish expeeience compared to jb roms. My question is simple. Why is jb so smooth and its not even suppose to run on this phone. And older roms sluggish. Any info appreciated. Thanks.
Edit. Have tried every kernel known to man. Not wanting to know how to make, for example, viperS smoother. Just wondering why jellybean roms so smooth

Jellybean is loaded whit project butter which makes on touch the processor clock to the max and the frame per second has been upgraded to 60 oh and rendering 3 times faster so yeah its all about "project butter" i guess.

I don't think your comparing jb with ics in your post i think? I might be wrong though. Sounds like your comparing aosp or aokp with sense. When of course aosp is going to move compared to sense.

Possibly. It is true, i have never tried ics aosp or aokp roms. Only ics roms i have used are all sense based and ofcourse all fhe jelly bean roms are not sense.

I can see that. Going from a aosp ics to a jb rom you can tell better performance. So going from sense to jb is a huge difference.

I actually prefer TW to AOSP now - I NEVER thought I'd say that!
I've always supported the crusade for more OEMs to release vanilla builds until now. After spending a while using TW I actually prefer it to AOSP. Any time I've given CM10 a try I've found myself actually missing TW.
Who's with me?
Me!
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
Definitely not stock Touchwiz, but cleaned up and modded yes.
But development is still new. Wait until JB is released and then definitely wait until the device no longer receives new updates. I will miss AOSP more than TW at that point.
I agree. AOSP is fast but in my opinion a little plain. Touchwiz on Jellybean should be the ultimate duo.
Me too
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
That is Samsung's intention so its good to see value actually being added.
Agreed. Can't wait for JB Touchwiz. I've rocked AOSP or some form of it for about a year now and honestly Touchwiz on the S3 is a nice change of scenery. :good:
Its the reason why I haven't installed CM so far, Samsung actually got it right. Can't wait till JB is out.
AOSP just doesn't feel the same anymore. Not as polished...
If you knew me, you would know this is crazy talk from me. Never thought those words would leave my mouth...

I find no reason to hate TW. It very neat, colorful, simple animations.
I think people who say they hate TW believe it is one of the requirements to be an XDA member.
/agrees
TW clock, Camera, video player, Calendar & Widget > AOSP IMHO
i dont mind the way touch wiz homescreen looks but i don't like how they made replacements for stock apps. I don't see why they couldn't just skin the stock ones. I also just prefer pure google.

Lol or thru don't like the colorfulness of it. Or they don't like iphonish look.
But imo its kinda cool. *shrug*

Loving TW on the S3!
A lot of people also think TW is just a launcher so they say it sucks. Iol
I just can't stand the huge fonts and spacing everywhere. And when you select small fonts, then some apps are unusable and others are still huge.
I have a hox as well and sense absolutely rapes tw in usability and in how polished it is.

Moved to AOSP JB (CM10 first and now AOKP) about a month ago after using TW for a month. Don't miss it at all. Especially don't miss the steaming pile that is the TW Email client.
Still haven't found any software added by a manufacturer that does anything to make me not want to run AOSP roms. Part of it is principle... Everything with TW could be an addon which runs on top of a vanilla android... but because people with HTC phones or Motos could run it too they tie it deeply into android instead of layering it on top. This hurts consumers because we get updates slower, and there just isn't an option to go vanilla without unlocking and installing a custom ROM, which isn't for everyone.
AOSP works best for me, and it's... OPEN. For me that's a big deal.
Each to their own though... Some people love their iPhones too
The sizes and excessive spacing took some getting used to for me coming from OG droid with steel droid on it. After almost a month since my upgrade I no longer regret as I originally did. Only problem I have now(still stock) is going back to the homescreen, it sometimes crashes, like I can see the weather widget reappear every time. With and without power saving on. I figure once I root n load up a custom Rom it should fix it. Thought it was cuz I didn't reboot my phone in 700 some hours that that might be the cause, since the screen wouldn't turn off while on a phone call, but the reboot didn't fix it. No big deal, just haven't seen that hiccup posted anywhere else, so I figured I'd share my experience.

They have modified TW launchers galore that reduce the extreme margins, while giving you extra grid space.
I have my font as tiny and it looks pretty good. What apps are giving you compatibility issues? That's odd...

My first Touchwiz device and loving it so far. The sms /contacts slide to call and text is amazing. That single handedly has been keeping me from aosp lol. I'm going to try aosp eventually though. Waaaay to many roms to pass on them

Its not compatibility, its inconsistency. Set the fonts to tiny and email and SMS font is finally right, but other apps (I think xda and words with friends are two) are nearly unreadable.
I'll restore a nan droid and play with it some more. Also will check out some modified tw launchers, thanks for the tip. I dont mind the launcher, its the apps. Like email and SMS that look like they were coded 20 years ago.

Hi all
I'm very torn as to which ROM I stay on.
I've been switching between Viper ROM & CM10. Both are awesome ROMs but I can't decide which I prefer more.
I really like the integration that sense gives you over AOSP but can't get away from the fact that CM 10 is giving amazing battery life.
If anyone can steer me in any direction I'd appreciate it.
Sent from my HTC Sensation using xda premium
Im on jb because its smooth and stable.
Sense has great options. But so does cmx
Sent from my HTC Sensation using xda app-developers app
Nobody can really make the descision for you. You need to decide which is more important for you, good intergration of apps, or better battery life? After that, it's an easy choice to make.
I really like both for those reasons, back on viper again now will probably check CMX soon
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
why not just keep both on your phone and change to which ever one you fancy with boot manager................sudeki300
Go with one and commit to it. It's like when you're dating two girls at once, and they're both great, but eventually you have to pick one or the other. You're playing with their emotions. Do you want the bust y blonde in sense, or the amazing personality brunette with maybe some aesthetic flaws? You just have to tell one to take a hike and go all in with the other. Pimp out CM10, enjoy Sense 4s beauty, whatever.
For me, I'm a CM10 guy even though sense is much better for organizational purposes right of the bat. But the thing is, I can organize just fine with CM10, just takes a little more customization.
Sent from my HTC Sensation using xda app-developers app
That's a fantastic way to put it. I'm going to try CMX and few different launches, any recommend launches, reading loads of post but personal experience is alway more valuable

I stick with Sense because Wifi-calling is a must for me, but if cm10 had that, I would definitely head in that direction.
Decided to go with CM10 for now.

The deal breaker for me is wifi-calling. When that exists on jellybean, then I will switch.

Well I'm back on Viper now, started to experience multiple problems on the latest build of CM10, will probably revisit it when its a bit more (although it is pretty good already)

what do you like about sense so much? the camera app?
I'm on Sense 4 and I don't plan on going to JB unless we get an official kernel or ffc is fixed.
My memory card have 15gb of full hd songs...so sense is good for me because playback of some codec in every player sucks in cmx....And the customization of viper also attracts me...so am in viper

Sense just feels more fluid and connected. For example, clock weather widget, tap on the time and it takes you straight to alarm clock, timer, stop watch. Tap the weather and you get the forecast.
To achieve the same on an AOSP Rom, needed to find a clock widget (fancy sense) then a timer and stop watch app, then a weather app and then set the widget up to open the secondary apps.

My whole life I've used AOSP until about 2 months ago. With sense I feel the phone is just more intact, by that I mean stuff just works. Like the kernel has no hacks or whatever, all the libs are there, all the kernel codes, hardware and software seem to cooperate more. I personally feel the sensation was meant to run sense, despite not liking the aesthetic look, everything is fluid and works wonderful

woops wrong thread
Hey guys I have been on Knzo's Chocolate with Marmite for a while and while its certainly a great combo, JellyBean just *feels* heavy. Its not slow or anything but it just feels *heavy* you know? Also, the notification bar REALLY lags when I pull it down and its certainly not as fast as ICS. Is anybody experiencing the same problem? Or questions?
Thanks!
Nope

Really? Hmm I don't know I did a full wipe and everything! I mean its smooth but the notification lag really kills the experience :/
I haven't had any lag either.. Not notification bar..
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
I think the heaviness thing is true for the notification tray.. it must be the fact that its not transparent, and the text on top seems a little crowded to me. However, performance is as good as ever.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
It's not just you. It lags really bad on my phone too, whatever the ROM/Kernel combo.
It becomes a whole lot faster when I disable Google Now, however that kind of defeats the object of running JB instead of ICS.
I'm almost certain that it's a limitation of only having 512mb RAM.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
Oh.. No.. Mine is lighting responsive! I am using ts5 rom.. Which for me is better than others. Including codename..
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
Hmm whats the *ts5* rom? I've tried anything and everything and the notification bar just flat out lags. But everything else is very smooth so it makes going back to ICS kind of hard haha :/
my CM10 is fast and stable
I've tried cm10, aokp jb and slim bean, and while I found slim bean to be the best (by far, the only to not to freeze and reboot with 1.2ghz overclock) of these three, all three of them had the same problem with graphics intensive games (Dead Space, NOVA 3, Modern Combat 3) where they would lag like crazy and the controls would freeze. This NEVER happened with cm9. Games ran incredibly smooth with cm9. BUT...I was so impressed with how far and away better Slim Bean was than the others that I'm going to give Slim ICS a try when I have a chance to flash it.
Other than the graphic intensive games that lag, I think JB is great and loved Google Now, but I can live without it as the ICS roms are (I have found) just as smooth and more usable than the JB roms at this point.

oh sorry about that.. haha.. its actually called "JellyB-TSM 5" but I think around yesterday its already updated to version 6. You can check it out under the nexus s android development section.. For me it is fast.. but some other people might have different experience. So just create a nandroid backup.. and give that ROM a flash.. and see how it turns out.. any problem you can simply revert via nandroid.. hehe.. :good:
Now i know LG abandoned this ship. I'm just as pissed off as the next guy about that one. I wouldn't mind an official jb or at least an ics update. But either way, I'm honestly quite satisfied with this phone and its performance. I'm running standard cm7 nightlies (latest) with Trinity t15 kernel and wolf script mod. Battery life is decent and bad when i whore wifi but that's the biggest iissue with my g2x. With all the hate threads around this forum there have to be others who have positive experiences with this device.
This phone is awesome. Since I started carrying around my portable nuclear power plant all my battery issues are gone.
Seriously though, if you use the phone the battery will drop. That is a law of physics you can't avoid. My problem with this phone was that with stock ROM the battery dropped a lot even when I did absolutely nothing. CM7 solved that, so I am happy.
I still don't get sufficient standby life so I am working on fixing an old HTC amaze (fixed bootloop, now waiting for screen to arrive). My wife's amaze can get over 4 days of standby and I just noticed that she has not rebooted it in close to 400 hours.
-- The noob says:

4 days of standby time? Sorry this is the g2x forum I don't know what that means.
Lol that's crazy!
I have about six months left until I'm available for an upgrade. Thinking the new s4, razor or nexus.
I agree this is still a pretty slick phone. I'm loving the dual boot setup with CM7/Trinity ELP as my runner and CM10.1 as my gaming/test platform. I'd probably be way more disappointed with the phone if I was stuck with stock software, but thanks to the awesome devs and their work I'm very happy with this phone.

I am currently running cm7 with Mazout360's kernel and wolfscript. I have themed my phone to be as similar to ICS/JB as possible, as that was the only way I could return to GB. I am very content with how it turned out.
In the end, I have accepted that I will probably never have fully functioning ICS or JB on this phone. But, I guess all that I was really looking for was that updated look and crisp feel, which I have since obtained!
Although I will move on to some sort of Nexus when I have better funding, I am satisfied with the g2x.
The only problem I seem to have with cm7 is this noticeable static flicker that appears very quickly after turning on the display. It only seems to do that with cm7 roms.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but is it possible to get the jellybean notification bar on gingerbread? Like with notifications you can swipe away and quick message replies to texts and all that. That might be the only thing keeping me on jellybean right now because I love the way it feels so intuitive and such.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I can swipe away notifications, that's something GB can do already I think. As for quick replys to messages and emails and such, I don't think so.
At least as far as I know.
I miss those features too, but I guess we can't have everything.
There are apps for pop up notifications though.
I can also swipe away notifications. Actually i found that out on mistake, had a few too many whisky cokes and tried responding to a text and swiped it away lol

Oh I went straight from Froyo on my old Optimus V to Jellybean on the G2X (I rooted and installed Paranoid Android right away) so I thought swipe notifications was a Jellybean thing. I'll install a Gingerbread ROM when I get back from work and try to make it look and feel like JB.
On topic, yes I'm very satisfied with my G2X, but that might also be because I wasnt expecting a high end phone when I bought it from eBay a few months ago. Also I have a Nexus 7 for any apps that I use that require a hardware accelerated jellybean.

For those of you who are content with cm7, even though it is old software, I am working on my "Speedster" rom. It is still quite alpha but my goals is to optimize CM7 for our G2xs. I am also doing a bunch of software updates inside and using Mazkrnl to have speed and stability. I use the latest ADW launcher in it and JB sounds so it really gives CM7 new life and gives it a great CM10 feel. I can't do anything about play store, still limited to 2.3 aps. No google keep/now
Pie, I'm willing to flash your rom whenever its out of the alpha stage. Or let me know if you need a tester
