Just wanna ask, which is more battery friendly. To set your screen brightness to auto or not? :cyclops:
For me , auto brightness eats more battery...
I set brightness to 20-30% for indoor , 70% for outdoor ..

Auto brightness uses the sensors and the cpu as far as I know. That means it consumes more power. I also set brightness around 20-30% indoor and also outdoor... No sunshine in Scotland...
Auto brightness also sets the values way too high in most circumstances, doing it manually is much better for battery life

If you don't have the status bar brightness mod (or cm brightness mod) this is a great app. I use it to replace auto brightness, and I set an almost invisible slider on the left side of my screen to leave brightness as a manual setting and be able to bump it up on the fly without leaving an app.
It's called Display Brightness by bigrubberpepper

Greetings everyone I would like to know if its possible to modify a value to enable a brightness setting lower than 25% as a minimum?
I ask this because if I am in a pitch black room and turn on the phone even the minimum brightness setting is enough to blind me
Do these settings reside in the from or kernel?
Thanks

Check out "Screen Filter" (by Haxor Industry) in the PlayStore (Market)
Thanks il check it out but it would be neat if the rom can do that since it relies on the light sensor to adjust the power of the screen it would be cool if the auto setting was able to read from a lower value than 25%
Gsam has an app that might be to your liking. on my kindle it can drop the brightness to below the minimum level. Search Gsam in the play store and then scroll to "other aps by:".

Screen filter is good. Lux if you want to set some manual points for brightness but I'm not sure if the sensor will limit your ability to distinguish from pitch black and dim since the phone itself will emit light in pitch black. Worth a shot though.

I am currently using screen filter and it works pretty good I don't go blind at night trying to read my phone its just that I have to remember to turn it on I tried the app by gsam but even at .5% the screen is still very bright so far screen filter does the job

There's a new app out there (XDA story on it today) called Galactic Night that's designed specifically for ultra-low-light settings. It's also in the Play Store now. It says it works with Galaxy S2 "devices" running GB and ICS. Not sure if that includes the Skyrocket, but no harm in asking the dev if it's what you're looking for.
+1 on screen filter

I've find the nexus screen generally way too bright and max it to 7% normally. At night I have it at 0% using the reduced brightness kernel under the experimental kernel.
What i would like to know is, is there a way of making the brightness slider have a custom range from say 0-15% or something?

First, does anyone know a way to limit the maximum brightness? I hate going over 50 percent or so, it kills my battery. I want to keep it on auto without letting it go too high. I know there are brightness apps, but wonder if anyone would recommend one...
Also, these last two are reposted but I had no response on another section so, how exactly does app power saving mode work when set to "always" vs 3 days? Does it deep hibernate it and how soon?
Finally, which screen mode is best for battery life? Adaptive, amoled cinema, amoled photo, or basic?
Thanks
Adaptive is the best.

If you use auto-brightness, you can still manually adjust the screen brightness. And it will learn from your adjustments. So if you keep lowering it manually, over time the "max" brightness will be less than 100%.
I don't think it will limit it to 50%, though.

Is there anyway to increase the brightness to the always on display? Seems like it should be a little brighter?
Thanks, Vinny
Seems to get brighter as the brightness in room increases. I just didn't give it enough time to work.

Hi mate
But that sounds about right , the brighter the room the brighter the display has to be in order to see it better ( when in auto mode) , disable the auto brightness under display and set it manually to a high value .... ... see if it helps
i'm using superman rom v1.8, the always on display doesnt seem to change position but i heard that it only changes 1 pixel per minute,
my question is how do we know if its postion changed or not?
I noticed with auto brightness off and max brightness enabled the screen still gets brighter in sunlight. Even when i turn outdoor mode on it is not as bright as when the sun hits the sensor. I want to know if there is a way to enable this maxed out brightness setting without it turning off everytime a shadow is cast over the sensor. A max "nits" toggle of some sort. Using high battery is not an issue when i need this mode is when im riding in a work truck so i have a charger. Thanks for any input.
