vipers 1.5.2 camera crash and wifi weak - HTC Sensation

hi all,
i have a clean and fresh rom... wipe wipe wipe... everything seems work great, except the camera and wifi lil weak....
when i take 5 pictures in row ( no burst mode) , auto facing off . the camera exiting... and i have to click on the camera again. and i tried another five shots and happen again.........
the wifi a little bit weaker this time..... im sitting next to the router and gets unstable signals. sometimes full and most time less than full in one or two bars.... the range is 3 feet from the router... i used to gets full signal on 1.4.0 for 12-15 feet from the router:silly:
i did search very very hard and tried every possible fix, but i failed....
thank you guys for the BESTEST OF THE BEST rom ever :victory::victory::victory::good::good::good:

Are you completely on viper stock? No custom kernel? Memory tweaks? Undervolting etc?
As for the wifi, try forcing enabled wifi n in the viper tweaks. Might do the trick..

yes im completely on viper stock... no custom kernel, no no no other stuff.
but i tried today faux kernel, its solved the camera and wifi but i start get reboots and sometimes the phone freezes after or during the calls.
EVEN WITH FRESH INSTALL
and i tried sebastianFM kinda fixed the wifi but same problem with camera. but the phone feels lil choppy....
im guessing its just a kernel issue, cause the camera missing hardware GPU and can't handle fast and high quality pictures a the same time.
well thank you so much guys for all your hard work and time

rom recomend for battery life and low temp?

kinda of likr the title says i am looking for a rom hat does good on battery and not getting warm
Tried the two revolution roms and made phone warm as did the xboarder rom.
Any ideas which i should try next?
I have the best results with Energy. I have tried every ROM and always come back to Energy.

I am running ARHD v3.6.1 as well and my phone is warm as well...I flashed the Bricked Kernel v1.2 and that has made a difference, but not significantly. I tried clocking back to 1.2Ghz but that has made no difference.
I have been running BK with v3.6.x and not had one reboot, just the warm phone problem.
I'm using energy oct3 version right now but phone is getting warm, but could just b the kernel using bricked v1.2, but when I was on oct2 version everything was amazing, phone never got hot, and battery life was amazing, and this is wwith brightness at 85% all the time, 4g on, and texting consatlly, couple calls and 6 hrs of music. Think I'm going to go back to stock kernel on Oct 3 version n if don't help I will b going back to oct2 version.

Nice will try energy then arhd wasn't a getting that good of battery life. The phone ran great just got warm.
try pyramid3D. its great. im running it right now. good battery life and rarely gets hot
InsertCoin! I'm telling you, this rom is quick, great battery life when you underclock it to 1.2ghz from the default 1.5ghz and it's amazing with the updates it gets, and get's better all the time. Great dev support as well.
if you can be bothered to read through the arhd thread (i know its huge) but theres some stuff about changing thermal config in there mite be useful to you
Faux kernels run really cool on my phone. I apply the thermal patch too but I don't know if it is necessary. You can his kernels on pretty much any rom.

Sorry to hear about your HTC Desire Z, that's annoying. When you get your confidence back I'd recommend trying HyperSensation http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302969
It doesn't overclock the CPU (as standard) and there really is no need to do so, I run it using a slightly tweaked (lower screen off max and lower minimums for both) version of the settings in post #3 (with bricked kernel)

There is a lot of things that can brick your phone. Not only the kernel.
I would recommended the Rom posted above (and in my sig). I have like 20 hours battery time, with moderate use. If you flash a new kernel, you can underclock, and maybe get more battery time. You really dont need ~1200 MHz on some roms, if you don't play a lot of games and so.

Honestly, I don't see why or how wifi tethering could in any possible way brick your phone, since it's a given option from the factory.. I mean I'm still new to the HTC phones so I could be wrong, but I highly doubt that tethering is one or if any a reason why you bricked your other phone.

I have tried all HyperSensation versions since 0.2 and can prove that it's lightning fast even being reduced to 800MHz maximum. Everything works great, except CSipSimple which plays no sound with it.
Without CSipSimple I've got about 60 hours of life on batteries with about 20 hours of wifi-connection, 6 hours of playing mp3's and about 40 minutes of phone-calls.
BTW, SIP-callers somehow interfere with phone.android app with fatal errors and force close events while trying to make a call. With ARHD I do not notice such behavior.

[Q] Phone freezing on camera standby

I just recently S-off, rooted, and put ARHD on my sensation. When im using my camera then while still in camera go to lock my phone, when i try to unlock my phone it seems my phone is frozen, like its turned off, without any power. I have to take the battery out to get it to power up again.
Anyone know what the problem is?
if you have custom kernel and it downclocks during screen off that happens. Happens to me before also. I guess the camera uses much of the cpu resources, not sure... that happens to me when i set the cpu to lower clock speed at screen off.

Since you are arhd gb rom I believe you are on faux kernel. Faux gb kernels have his own implemented system which does not allow you to turn off your screen while in camera. try to avoid doing that and you are all good. Or simply move on to ics. Its about time

Some kernels/apps downclock and change governor when screen goes off, if setcpu is doing it, superuser may not grant it permission for another few seconds when you try to turn on, causing it to lag, easy fix is if you just locked and want to unlock screen then press power button 3 times, will turn on instantly

Wow! Really? I'm going to try this next time but I'm starting to think this is a battery issue any suggestions on how to fix battery?

Will putting a ROM on make this phone better?

I'm a bit unimpressed with this phone, (Sensation XE) Sense crashes often when you press the home button and goes through the process of re springing etc, If I hold the phone at the bottom cell signal disappears, if I hold it at the top wifi disappears, battery life is poor, it struggles to last a day and in general use for a phone with 1.5ghz dual core process and 768mb ram it feels sluggish for some reason, RAM is also almost full all the time even when I kill everything. I get the impression is can't handle sense 3.6, My old Desire felt much quicker, and the SGS2 blows this out of the water. I am not rooted or anything at the moment, just running ICS and 3.6, It shipped with ICS so don't know what GB was like on this device. In quadrant I can't even get 2000, most I have seen is 1900, my SGS2 gets 3200+
Would a rom make this phone better or is eBay the best option.
Fot real. Stock ICS is pretty rubbish. Stick an Anker innit and load up ARHD. If u get rid of Sense it will free up RAM. ARHD also have pption when installing to keep Launcher in Memory if RAM is maxed out.
Load up Faux, SebastianFM or, my fav, Bricked kernel to get optimized CPU processing.
This should make ur phone twice better.
Beamed from my Senny..
Stock can be a nightmare sometimes. Let it be known a few things though:
1) A new rom won't help your reception issues. Sorry
2) Quadrant scores do not reflect real-world performance and should be ignored. My Senny's faster than my friend's GNex (AOKP) and my other friend's SGSII (Stock) but the quadrant scores say otherwise.
3) The Sense launcher dying thing is always fixed when installing a custom rom. It comes from carriers (and HTC) bloating up the OS too much and the launcher being killed to keep room for applications open. Most custom roms will force the launcher in the memory, circumventing the issue.
That being said, "root it, flash it, enjoy it".
Yes! My crashing stopped never to return again after I rooted s off and installed custom rom. I am totally convinced that custom Roms can be far more stable than stock Roms! Never have I once had the restarting issue on custom rom. You will see the difference immediately.

i couldn't go back to sense.
I'm going to be the one to go against the grain here...
If you don't like a device to begin with then I don't think a new rom will make you love it. You may find it tolerable, but in the end you will most likely be dissapointed overall.
You're best off finding a device that you really like, and then improving upon it...
Grogg is likely correct, if you don't like it now, you'll probably still be unhappy with whatever you do to it. Best to sell it and get something that makes You happy. Everyone is different with different opinions and tastes . As for me, I LOVE my device and truly enjoy modifying it in different ways. I'm very interested in this kind of thing but others might see that differently.so yes It's best just to find something you like. Good luck and hope you find something your happy with!

Well before selling your device you loose nothing to give it a try a custom rom !

Ok thought I would update this, I spent the weekend making it S-OFF and installing ORDroid 9.
The phone still feels like its struggling, Quadrant only shows slightly over 2000, the Desire HD gets higher and its single core.
WiFi reception now seems a bit better, but cell reception is still very poor, No signal most of the time at home, most other phones I've had give 2 bars min.
And battery life is still shockingly bad, 10% per hour in stand by, and in 10 mins setting it up etc I lost 10%.
Not sure what to try now, I think Sense 3.6/4 may be a factor here. The phone struggles with it.
Strange because here is my last quardent test on ordroid as you can see its in the 4,000's what kernel are you running? I'm using same Rom and look at my score? You say you scored a 2,000? Don't know what Kernel I have, I didn't change anything so just whatever came with Ordroid as standard
During installation we had choices on the Aroma installer also it asked what your goal is like performance, battery saver, ext.next time during install pay close attention to what Aroma is asking you because. It gives the ability to under or over clock ext. I just used default but I choose "bad ass " bricked kernel
Aroma gives lots of options during install and you can focus on performance if you like. Hope this helps out. If you want to reinstall you can really look at the options closely and change it to help the performance. Best of luck! Have a great day!

Clock drift issue

Hi guys, I'm using Virtuous Inquisition 4.0.2 with included sebastianFM kernel on my sensation..
my main problem is that the clock always lags behind, there is a 1min drift every hour, enabling auto network time doesn't fix the issue, sometimes i notice drifts of up to 35min.. is this a kernel issue? or an htc base issue? or something else ?? I want to solve this issue without using 3rd party apps like clocksync. could knowledgeable person help me out with this one ?

I don't think he meant the 'cache', maybe data, dont know.
As alternative you can try clocksync from the market and set it up as you see fit. I know its a workaround but nothing comes to mind that could cause that issue.
You could do several things to test , does the issue only happens on that rom? Have you tried another kernel?

The previous sense roms that i have used never had the issue.. i really like aosp, so much faster and smoother than the sense junk, but the clock inaccuracy is annoying.. i hate clocksync because im not always near a connection.

You will need to use it for a while to see if it happens again, even if you reflash the kernel you were using before, the idea is to try to figure out what's causing the clock lag.
Now, answering to your question, since Virtuous Inquisition is based off sense, I'd say either SebastianFM, Bricked, Faux, Grogg, Sultan's, JMB or PYD-X would work, just have a look and see which one behaves better on your rom I'd start by Sultan, but I haven't been in the kernel spree for a while.
Also, backup before start switching, just in case
Let us know.
PS - Have you tried HyperNonSense ? It's also AOSP look and those kernels would work on it too. It's a little more updated then the one you're using atm.
I just flashed the faux kernel.. same problem the clock start drifting after a few mins.. i didnt try hypernonsense yet.. hate flashing and reconfiguring settings... Titanium backup messes things sometimes

ok, looks like the faux kernel fixed it. not having the ridiculous 1min drifts per hour anymore. issue solved. sebastianFM kernel was the culprit.
