i unlocked boot loader then flashed superuser zip, then i tried flashing the cm9 inspire rom

For unlocked bootloaders you also need to fastboot flash a boot.img when you flash a ROM. See the guide in post #7 of the Ace Think Tank thread for detailed instructions on how to do that. Also, do you have an (EDIT: custom) recovery installed?

Yes. But don't use the unzipped file afterwards. Signature check will fail. Keep the original one

You should be using stock recovery and not clockworkmod. So flash stock recovery and you need to lock your bootloader.
This tool has the option to flash recovery, at least that is what I used.

My Hasoon's All in one tool, has that option. Also you can search the web for that tool app. I tried to upload stock recovery, but looks like it exeeds the limit of 8 MB. Give me your email, I will send it to you.

I also have the Hasoon tool and in newest version you can only flash stock recovery if you have it yourself, it is not included.
Have been looking for the stock recovery myself but failed to find it.

I flashed this recovery using the tool and rebooted the phone.
Then i installed the OTA update (No need to relock bootloader)
Then i reinstalled CWM and SuperSU .
Now my phone is at 2.31 and rooted.
Sweet that i dont have to listen to the SMS tone over and over again just informing me that there is a firmware update available.
Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

Custom Unlocked Lock Icon On Start Up and OTA Updates

Okay, so I recently noticed that there was an icon that said "Custom" and it was an unlocked lock on my start up. And, when I try to do an OTA update, it fails. I even flashed the stock recovery. And, when I try to install custom ROM's, it says something like "Error 7, installation aborted."

Well i'm almost 100% sure that all roms now require an unlocked bootloader, so by unlocking it and flashing a custom recovery you should be able to flash roms and it'll make the custom icon go away as well.

If your already rooted just download EZ Unlock from the market and it'll do it with the press of a button I advise flashing a custom recovery first though.

that would be safe general rule now, do all your backing up, flashing, etc, by manually booting into recovery first, that's the only sure fire way to make sure it gets flashed on okay. I don't even keep rom manager on my phone anymore and i used to use it religiously on previous phones.

HTC one x question about twrp

Hello. I am new to the HTC one x coming previously from an HTC inspire. I am with att. I followed the directions and unlocked the bootloader. I have been reading and noticed S-Off is still being worked on. I'm Confused on what my next step is to load a custom ROM. Sorry I know this has probably been answered but I'm still confused. Can I do the next set of steps without a computer and just do it from my phone? I downloaded an app called recovery manager not sure of that will help me out. Thanks for any help you guys can provide. I'm on 2.20 and 4.0.4 thanks again.

I think at that time after unlock of the bootloader you will need to install a recovery software the one we use is TWRP i would stick with 2.2.0.0 and install it thought goomanager that is avaliable though the play store.
Instructions : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1677447
To use goomanager I need to be rooted though right?I don't think I'm rooted. Farthest I have gotten so far is unlocking the bootloader. And I'm not sure what to do after that. I'm not sure if I can do the rest from my phone (which I hope I can). Thanks ks for your help.

Do you absolutely have to flash SuperSU to flash ROMs? Can you just go right from TWRP and flash a rooted ROM and be considered as "rooted"?
Thanks

You can just flash a custom ROM, which will have SuperSU or SU cooked in. Only need to flash SuperSU if you want to stay on stock ROM and have root.
you made your situation sound different. the steps i take is use my token, flash recovery, then flash a rom or supersu depending if i want a custom rom or keep using stock.

I'd leave it unlocked. Boot into recovery, use adb push to copy a rom and flash away.
I'd leave it unlocked. You don't need to use adb push. Just mount usb in recovery and copy ROM across. Then flash the ROM.

What is with you and ADB? With no OS, you can't use ADB.
Extract the boot.img from the rom zip file and put it in your fastboot folder
Mount USB through recovery, copy the rom zip file to your SDcard
wipe cache, dalvik, system
flash rom
reboot to your bootloader/fastboot
plug in your phone
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
Should boot and work fine.

Just as the instructions state:
Install: TWRP custom recovery is recommended
1. Reboot to TWRP custom recovery
2. Wipe/Factory reset if coming from another ROM
3. Flash ROM
4. Reboot
5. Enjoy, First boot will take 5 to 10 minutes
You may want to flash a sense ROM first and get a lock on GPS, some people have had an issue with GPS on GPE ROM, however I didn't have this issue, but I did come from a Sense ROM.
You are already on Sense ROM, so just do a lock on GPS, make sure it works, then go ahead, flash custom recovery TWRP, download the ROM of choice, reboot to recovery, wipe, flash ROM.

You don't need root to install custom recovery.. Just S-OFF.
have you looked at the TWRP thread?
You need to know how to use adb and fastboot
Reboot to fastboot
Put custom twrp.img in adb folder
Run cmd:
Fastboot flash recovery nameoffile.img
A little research goes along way..
Google and searching is your friend.
