[Q] Hipstreet NOVA 4 HS-7DTB5-4GB - General Questions and Answers

Does anyone have nay information on this tablet? I haven't been able to find anything about this specific tablet, not even the proper specs.
There are many tablets like it, but it is very difficult to narrow down which, if any, have the same specs.
This is the product page, but I can't find any software or manuals for it:
http://www.hipstreet.com/hipstreet-nova-4-wi-fi-7-capacitive-touch-screen-tablet/
Any info provided would be appreciated.

Yes actually. It's based on the A710/A10 tablet, I think specifically the SAYCOOL A710. My friend found lots of custom ROM's and CWM's and the device can be easily flashed/recovered with LiveSuite.
Unfortunately he is crap at remembering where he gets things, but I know the majority of sites were Vietnamese and he found a folder in Google of ROM's and recoveries.
You'll have to try a few, as some made the device randomly turn off, or the sound/wifi did not work.
The best ROM's are Gingerbread based, and while the one he has now seems to work but many apps crash at launch.
That should be a good stepping stone.

[Q] MK16i Xperia Pro

Yes, there is one post that follows the process that I used for my SK17i Mini Pro a couple months ago.
I'm new to Android. Yup a Noob. I don't mind saying as we all have to start to learn somewhere and somehow.
Long story short. I've damaged my Very well liked SK17i. Physical is what I mean here.
I rooted it according to some instructions along the lines of:
1. upgrade to firmware xxx.
2. grab image xxx. etc.
3. use the tool to root it.
I diverged... I just installed Doomloards Custom Kernel after step 2 or so and installed it as it was already rooted! It has overclocking though I didn't use it and of course it had Boot recovery. Plenty of other useful tools aready in the .img.
I basically want the same thing for my Pro.
My whole purpose of rooting is for the rights root grants, and to use aps2sd. Sufficient for my functions. (CM mod etc, will have to be a lot more stable for me to consider them which is going to be some time down the road for this device.)
I kept everything else stock. I don't do custom roms etc. This is a daily phone and I need it to function and work for communication.
bboof posted something like what I'd prefer to do. I'm waiting for a reply as to whether his kernel will support aps2sd. (I do mean the XDAversion not anything from Android apps store unless there has been something wonderfully new there in the last 2 months since I bought my Mini Pro.)
I was fighting the Internet here and a machine with HDD problems making for a serious dog dog slow experience here. I'm in CHINA. Censorship and random sites blocked for the fun of it.
I have searched and searched. I have broken out my little 10in Computer here cause it's at least not so mind numbingly painfully slow. (haha Now just fighting the internet. At the moment XDA is not blocked! Started out that way earlier? Had to use a proxy.)
I have been at this for several hours. About 7 so far.
I have FOUND no info on a Custom Kernel for the Xperia Pro MK16i? SO other than bboofs, is there none? Yet I've found comments in others that there are? Even that doomlord has made one. I can find no link? I found such a comment in his one step guide and someone said, why? We already have kernels with root available to be flashed to the device? (Please I want this kernel? how to find it?)
I've googled any number of search parameters i could think of. I can't find.
If there's a Doomlord kernel, just like with my SK17i, I would guess specific firmware is needed? Please tell me which and where to get it... Thank you to any and all who can shed some light here. I live in a different time zone and if I can get an answer that enables me to do what I want... I might be able to order this MK16i tomorrow. It seems a great piece of kit with some nice 'upgrades' compared to my SK17i. (It was not available in Oct.)
What I have found so far. CM7 or was it 9? There's a custom kernel that seems to be required to be installed before trying the CM7 ROM.
So anyone with more experience in Android. Can I use that CM7 Kernel for MK16i? What does it support? (I read back with my SK17i some problems with CM and aps2sd. Something about scripts clashing and all that.) I will not install CM Rom. I will keep stock ROM and I am guessing there may be some conflicts? Yes, no? Maybe?
As I'm asking about using custom kernels... WE all know that the Neo and Pro are the same unit. Just like the Mini and Mini pro were. With the physical difference of a keyboard.
Anyone have a clue or has anyone even TRIED! (Someone adventurous perhaps?) the Kernels for the Xperia Neo on the Xperia Pro? I am a noob, and I do use linux 98% of the time. I don't really work in Windows anymore. However, I'm not a coder or script writer. Also Android for lack of a better term has a few mods.
More or less, in Android, from my simple understanding and yes, correct me if I'm totally wrong or even partially, so I can gain understanding, the ROM is basically where all your program functions and such are. SO when we're talking about the keyboard for example. Parameters and such I would guess are in the ROM?
If all else being equal, I should be able to use a Neo Custom Kernel on my SK16i to achieve my simple result? Or do I have it confused?
What I understand is at least with aps2sd, a ramdisk mod is needed? Does the bboof kernel not only offer root but the modded ramdisk to support other features with everything else being stock? (Actually I'm guessing it should because of mods that should still have been made to allow for the recovery. Though everything else is 'stock'. Of course totally not sure or I wouldn't be here asking.)
Anyone know? I'm more or less sitting here spinning my wheels. I want to order the replacement and at the price difference, it seems silly not to buy the MK16i. (However basically want to be 100% certain I can manage my same little basic setup.)
Also, if anyone with more experience has some idea, I'll be happy to use another tool to gain the ability to put aps on my SD card and not take up the limited space on the device. So please recommend a tool that isn't too complicated.
How about link2sd? Does it also require a modded ramdisk space?
I just want to keep it simple. I don't often need so far, any great mods on my devices. Just root so being in CHINA I can actually use the appstore.
My SK17i does work despite the damage. SO I have ROMmanager the back up program. I haven't really used it yet. (Unable to pay for paid version again other limitations of CHINA. Including an inability to pay for VPN at the moment to stop fighting with the internet. Last time to work with my SK17i took me about 5 days! Coz every link to download the files was blocked!! It only took me about 3min following the instructions to actually update firmware. unlock bootloader, add Doomlords custom kernel. ) Hoping I can use Rom Manager to back up just my programs and shift them right over to the MK16i. Can I do that? Anyone with a bit more experience using the program and does this work with the unpaid version?
Hoping to do the same here... if there's no custom kernels or such available. Please tell me. If there are, links where to download etc.
All those who use various ways to put aps on your SDcard please let me know what works well and stable. Also the real way, not like some of the app store aps. I'll make a ext partition, that kind of approach, on my SD card.
THis is likely by far an advance question... what about running debian or some linux image in chroot on Android and obviously an Xperia. In particular the pro but has anyone tried with anything else? I saw a few links about it a few months ago and even someone has an app in appstore supposed to automate it. (Uh not so important as the primary. Getting root in a kernel and aps2sd support.)
Sorry if this post is long. I'm trying to save you guys wondering what I want, and having to ask me more questions.
In case it's important. I am buying a sim unlocked non carrier specific unit. I buy from Expansys. I live in China so buy from HK. Their products are good and stuff not made for CHINA! Which is the absolute must to avoid. Unless you like fiddling and trying to bypass the limitations they put on their products. Android units sold in CHINA of course are locked by carrier. of course remove Android app store!
Not even going into the necessity to have root so I can 'pretend' I'm in some other country to reach apps that google censors from China anyway.
I hope I've been detailed enough and someone can point me in the right direction.
I've got flashtool and other tools from when I did my SK17i back in October. (Fortunately. I dread to think of the internet fight if I had to try to get them all over again. I'll only need the files specific to MK16i and links to them.)
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

I also have google play flashed and google voice search.
I downloaded netflix and it installed without errors yet when I open it, it shows a black screen for a second and then closes. I still see it under the open apps window and clicking on it also goes black and closes.
I have seen postes saying it works bit is laggy but I can't eve get into it.
So I would like to BuMp this thread to a solution!
Netflix & Zeki's
Yep, we're all hitting the issue and I'm getting it exactly as you describe!
Apparently it's a Netflix update to ICS and they're fully aware of it, it's not
ZEKI's doing as far as I can find. I personally love this tab, picked up the
10" because the 7" were near impossible to find since they're both on
sale right now.
I'm still digging, but I'm reading several bits on alternate download sites
as the version from the Google Play store could be buggy enough to be
our entire problem. This includes downloading it from an alternate
Netflix site and from Amazon's store instead. Checking the revision #'s
to see if there's any difference...
The Netflix alternative download for US on ICS ONLY: tinyurl.com/nflx180
[Sorry Noob settings restricting URL's are good and stupid at the same time ]
Gotta do that from the browser on the tablet! Suck it down and make sure
you've not only removed the other version you have but get into your
Downloads area(s) and make sure any apk's are gone too so it doesn't
confuse anything!
I'm attempting both fixes now, alternate first, I'll post anything I find.
works great!

Netflix & Zeki's
Glad it worked for both of ya! I had some connection issues I finally got over but it does fly.
I bought the 10" because the 7's were long gone but I love the extra USB on it and graphics upgrade
so I don't regret the upgrade one bit. I'd found the ad, then went and researched the $99 sale model
before I just ran out and blew money. All the reviews I found said this was the most factory-made
hackable unit out there and while there's been some quirks it's rooted out of the box and ready for
anything. Just like my Samsung Instinct, it's all in learning the hack process and sideloading with
APK's frmo various sources. It's all out there, just a matter of finding it and patience in loading it
properly.
More stuff I find I'll make sure I update here on XDA!
Thank you

Thank you for fixing Netflix for me too!! But I have a question that you may be able to answer.
I have a TB782B FID:CF Android 4.0.4 out of the box

Whoops!

Sorry about that! Somehow it didn't send me the update e-mail so I knew this was here and
I just found it...
I've always followed the instruction threads here on XDA for stuff like that and it's never failed - IF I
read the whole post with replies and didn't skim. I've done that before and nailed myself.
I'm not aware of anything Zeki ever changed, they have somewhat stagnated on development
and upgrades/improvements so I've pulled the new versions from here instead of them, lot
more stable too and allows things here to work far better. The hardware I think came from a
factory overseas with multiple names on it since I've seen hardware with the same internal
stuff but some other Mfg. name on it. All based on the same core and internal chipsets tho.
The buttons are a PIA, sometimes too long is as bad as too short so ensure you try at
various lengths and see if you get lucky, then note that for the future. I think I wasn't doing
it long enough and I mean I was holding it a long time for me even!

[Q] Uber Noob need help with HTC One S bought in Beijing

Hey Guys,
As I mentioned in the title I am an uber noob when it comes to any sort of customization. I am travelling for 8 months, so I decided to pick up the HTC One S (first smart phone) instead of a laptop in Beijing because I thought it would be more useful. However, I'm already experiencing many difficulties.
Everything is in Chinese and I want English apps, but the Chinese app market loaded onto the phone has nothing in English. I have been searching through these forums trying to root my phone and flash a new rom onto it in hopes of accessing Google Play (I might need a VPN, too). However, some of the sites where I need to download software from (mediafire in particular) are inaccessible from where I am. How should I proceed?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! (and please in fairly simple terms for my noobish brain to handle or something I'd be able to search online)
Try to change the language in settings!
Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk 2
Before you try and unlock/root/flash your device, make sure it is an actual HTC One S, not some clone, and make sure you know whether you have an S3 or S4 model.

Does your phone look like one of these? In that case it does not have much in common with the One S versions in the rest of the world and you should absolutely not flash anything from xda. Even if it looks like the "normal" One S do as Jobo mentioned and pay attention to if it is a Z520e ("S4") or Z560e ("S3") and only flash stuff made specifically for your version. There should be a model number on the box.

[Q] Tweaking Mach Speed Xtreme tablet 7c

Hi,
My kids both received Mach Speed Xtreme Tablet 7c as gifts. I found they have problems that I am hoping I can fix with help. Firstly, they do not have Google Play Store on them. We have been using Aptoide and Amazon, but neither app runs very well. I would prefer to have Play Store on it since I am familiar with it from my own devices. Also, they are very slow and they crash often. I get a lot of force closes and a lot of Not Responding. Bad enough that they are hardly touched. Is this just a bad product or can something be done to help? They are apparently already rooted out of the box. I installed a Root Check app that says it is rooted and has Busy Box (I don't know what that is yet, but I'm definitely willing to learn.)
I am slowly learning the terminology involved in rooting and ROM'S but I would really like a nice step by step situation. Does the fact that it is already rooted mean the bootloader is also already unlocked? Or not necessarily? Also I was looking for a recovery, but I couldn't find one for this specific tablet. Which one should I use?
Any information is greatly appreciated. I really don't want these tablets to go to waste if they can be tweaked.

Root and custom ROM support

Hey!
I have currently a Vivo NEX on order from AliExpress.
I wonder how fast (if at all) there will be a way to root the device, and most importantly: install Google Play and custom launchers on it.
A custom ROM; something stock like would also be exciting to see soon.
Another question that I have is: will I be able to use the in-display-fingerprintsensor when I install a custom launcher?
I guess that's a very noob question but I really have not much experience with that because this will be my fist phone with a fingerprintsensor at all.
Greeting from Austria!!

Root and custom roms will be available as soon as Vivo release source code and blobs, and yes you can use the fingerprint sensor on custom launchers, even if it doesn't have play store you can still install launchers and apps from an apk.

Thats great news actually. I have successfully rooted and installed a custom ROM on my galaxy S5. But I am still quite new to the topic and therefore I want to ask: if some videos or websites claim that they have a way to root *any* android device: can that be true from a technical standpoint or is such a thing always scam?

It is definitely a scam, there's no way of rooting *any* phone, it's true that most phones become rootable sooner or later, but that depends on the manufacturer and those who modify the device. The thing is that technically any android phone can be rooted, but that can only be done if one first has access to a bootloader which they can send commands to, such as flashing a recovery. Apps or sites that say they can root any phone is a very deceptive way of tricking inexperienced users, based on somewhat facts.
The process of rooting a phone goes something like this:
1. Manufacturer releases software which allows a pc to communicate with the phone, therefore allowing for the pc to send commands such as flashing a recovery, sideloading a custom rom, restoring stock firmware, etc.
2. At that point, the user has complete access to their phone, just as the manufacturer would, so they can flash a recovery, through which they could flash supersu or magisk in order to root their phone, or a custom rom.
Now the thing about apps that can supposedly root a phone through the os, without it having root, is that some of them are legit, but they work in many different ways, those ways vary from each device. Apps such as kingroot (roots the phone without the need of a pc) is that they normally look for system apps which they can exploit and use as a backdoor to gain root access for the device, such apps can indeed root multiple devices, but no app can root literally any phone. This is because, if for example there was a phone that was released 15th june, 2018, and would have extremely good security, no apps that could be used as a backdoor, the app simply couldn't exploit that device. This is exactly why very new phones (such as the vivo nex) have no custom roms or root, because they're so new that no exploits have been found, and the manufacturer hasn't released software for users to root, nor have they released source code for developers to start building custom roms for them.
Sorry for the long paragraphs, hope I helped.
Moral of the story: don't trust weird apps saying they can root any device.

Thanks a lot for the detailed explanations!
That with the bootloader makes a lot of sense to me as I work a lot with microcontrollers especially; AVRs and PICs. Some of them have a dedicated part of the FLASH where you can keep code around that runs at system startup. A bootloader. That per example lets the AVRs flashed with an Arduino Bootloader communicate with the PC without the need for a programming device!
So I won't load any itchy software on my new device haha.
An other question I have is:
Are there any disadvantages of having a Chinese ROM other than having to install all Google services manually?

Well most of the time stock android is always faster and more stable, be it touchwiz, miui, flyme. Touchwiz for example uses very high resolution icons for the ui, which take up more ram (and make the rom size much bigger, therefore sacrificing internal memory) making the phone more sluggish. Basically roms that aren't stock always have some element to them which is likely to make them slower, or have more bugs, possibly.
Because how can you have a better android rom than pure android? Building upon it is always a good thing, but changing it completely usually results in a not so good experience. These sort of things certainly don't apply to what oneplus do with oxygen os and whatever the stock rom is for motorola phones.
As much I fall in love with this phone but VIVO is totally developer unfriendly.
Due to unavailability of kernel sources third party developers couldn't build any custom aftermarket ROM's.
It’s the opposite from what OnePlus offer.
I will wait 6-9 months we will see many other OEM building same design and feature 3d fingerprint reader under the screen and most important developer friendly.
Even Samsung device it’s very very easy rooting and installing twrp and has plenty of development support with custom rom, tweaks and mod.
This Funtouch OS out of the box Vivo phones is totally not acceptable and DOA to me.
It’s a shame such wonderful device with really bad and closed software.

Well dammit then. I came here to check about this, potential availabilty of any custom roms (linegae / RR)
I'm gonna check about others vivo. Thanks for warning
I think I'm sort of hijacking the thread but it's on topic so should be ok ... I hope.
I've never bought a Chinese phone, but this year I will be getting my first Chinese Android device (Vivo or not).
I've rooted phones in the past so not worried about it but is it required to get Google Play Store and framework on the device? Basically I'm asking how does one make this Chinese phone into a Westernized one.

Basically you cann install the playstore through the gmail hack. You install gmail via the included chinese store app. Then it will automatically load playstore on the device.
If you pick your seller with care they will have a semi western rom on the phone. I (I posted the link to the seller in the where to buy thread) ordered my vivo nex from a seller who does that. They will have english language, playsore gmail, maps youtube etc preinstalled.
Despite the not open software of the nex just because its sheer popularity there will be custom roms and hacks. You can bet on that! Just not as many of corse.
so not open software is final ?
It's one of many deciding factor for me.

I guess noone can say for 100% sure because the phone will start selling just tomorrow. But people with vivo expreince have claimed that the software on vivo phones is generally not very developer friendly.
Even if there won't be custom ROMs I can still have a custom launcher on it.

Our only hope is for wider spread selling across globe and not only Asia that maximaze possibilities.
As more and more users across globe getting know Vivo then its more possible.
Don't forget Vivo is major sponcored of World Cup 2018 that's major worldwide athletic event and think Vivo has ambition to sell to western world some time(not to far hope)

Thank you.
So what's the things we are missing using a semi westernised ROM over a full western ROM?
How are sellers able to get custom ROMs on the phone so early? (Or are they not custom ROMs?).

I think they might have some contracts with Vivo...
Even more proof of that if you look on AliExpress they charge way premium for the devices. I paid 800€ on the 8G 128G version!
I think that there are no disadvantages besides anything regarding their AI tech which will only understand Chinese I think.
Once I am not planning to use that, that's no problem. People claim that the funtouch OS is somewhat unstable but I will test that for myself. The seller I ordered from claims that I will be able to receive over the air updates so they will surely patch things over time.
Remember that if you do not like their OS you can still install a launcher from playstore.
But if any of that holds true, I will see when my phone arrives. The seller claims that they will ship it out over the next 7 days per DHL.
I will update here on my experience, installing launchers, if playstore is there or not etc.

Are you serious??
Btw, do you know if you can eliminate the chinese software that comes pre-installed? And can you configurate everything you need as if it were a "normal western android"? (contacts, calendar sync, emails, etc)

I have the Vivo Nex now. Can't use third party launcher unless you sign up for a vivo account which can only be done with a China phone number. This is a new development as I was able to get nova on vivo x21 without account.
Really annoying.

Thanks for informing! I really hope that someone finds a workaround soon!
Just a note at the side: I don't know about stability but even though the Vivo OS looks a lot like iOS especially for larger phones like that things like the quick draw from the bottom are quite nice features.

Also interested in this one, since the phone is available now! Mine will take some time in shipping though.
