[Q][N8020][IMEI] discharged battery and IMEI: null / null. What I supposed to do? - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello.
I have Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 LTE (N8020). My device battery goes to 0%. I turned on device and I have charged battery.
I noticed that there is 'no service'... I checked IMEI and there is 'null / null' :/
I performed full wipe, flashed with boot+pda+modem+csc - no change.
Now I have XXBLL2 pda with root, imei on paper and 'no service'.
What I supposed to do?
Please help..
Regards.

Hope you did not flash any custom rom check the count if it is zero take it to a service center get it replaced

Run Triangle Away to reset rom counter .
Flash stock firmware and then factory reset to clear reset status from modified .
Otherwise its a no warranty job if Samsung spot its been customized or rooted .

Mate, instead of using the recovery above and as your tablet will still be in warranty, TAKE IT BACK as long as you have restored stock.... You could go through these steps and still find you have no IMEI, need to take it back anyway. Why screw around with it more and chance Samsung charging you for replacement parts?

no... in my EFS folder is... nothing :/ folder is blank.
I can do what I want with this tablet and still it can be repaired in the service, but it want to do it myself (before xmas).
I can flash / root etc. Simple question, it is possible? Can I for example take EFS folder from another tablet, and change IMEI or something like that?

No .
But their are illegal methods of changing the IMEI i believe .
Discussion of such is banned on XDA .

ah, I did't know. ok, so... xmas with 'no signal', and then I will take it to my samsung friends
Thanks all for help

Sounds like your EFS stuff has been fux0red somewhere along the. I'm thinking maybe there was some custom ROM flashing going on in its recent past? I've come so very close that 'oh what's the worst that could happen' moment myself mostly due to feeling like I'm the only person on the planet that has a lte vetsion of this device. N8020 just doesn't seem to have any development dome yet... anyway back on point...
Unless you have a back up of the efs partition its not something you can flash away and so will need warranty repairs or replacement by Samsung. You could try for DOA with the provider you 4ot through if its inside the timeframe, its either 14 days or 45 from memory but that's something that could backfire if you get a tech savvy sales person and the bust you. The first few posts are talking about making sure if you send it straight to Samsung that they don't bust you by the inbuilt flash counter. If they find its been flashed or the counter is >1 they will NOT cover it under warranty and you will be up for costs to repair. Can get a little expensive so best to be 100% this is sorted before submission. Ignore the poster above (mags69).. they must have not read the posts in full and are basically sending you to the wolves...
Search efs from I9100, I9000. Any of the note handsets 7xxx or whatever to learn why its so important to be sure you have that backup before going crazy. Worth a poke around in the file sysytem too IMO.. most,>90% from what I've seen, custom anythings flashed in cmw will do the backup by default. Seen it in folders, zips and nested deep in the sir structure. Like /mnt /sdcard /revo. Or /mnt /sdcard /checkrom/backup and so on.
Sorry for your troubles too mate.. sucks I know but with a calm and steady approach you should be able to come back from this with a lesson learned. Calm and steady and lie your ass off to Samsung
EDIT: maybe try a different modem. Hell its not going to make thing worse at this stage provided you don't hard brick your device somehow but obviously a lte stock modem would be the winner to try. Long, long shot though... worth the time to be sure on the other hand. I bet the efs at a different block address in the rom on these Ltd ones though and so its been overwritten or whatever cause the update has been coded to write at a specific block that's fine on say wifi version but due to the software differences on 3g or lte ones.

ok. I'm Samsung employee so I can repair it in service any time
I have another N8020 with proper imei but I don't want to have 2 devices with the same imei (its possible? I think no )... changing imei is illegal - I know, but I want to change it to original one.
The best thing - I use original PDA very long time... Without any flashing etc (never custom pda), I was a happy user and what? I loose IMEI xD
I take it to service. Too much combination = brick...

Modem can fix nothing it does not touch EFS .
CWM flash does not always backup EFS so don't rely on that read the description .Tools are available to back up EFS folder .
Occasionally flashing a stock rom/ factory reset may repair EFS but not if no EFS folder .
XDA forum member ODIA has the most knowledge on this subject .
jje

EFS folder exist, but is empty. You mean that flashing dont create EFS folder? or that not every pda?

Flashing does not create EFS folder that's why rule one is backup EFS folder .
neither does CWM recovery backup EFS .
jje

great...
I flashed back to original latest boot/pda/modem/csc and...

Ah I see... well seems like there's one Samsung employee that needs to be asking the hard questions of his bosses.. haha could you imagine "boss my phone is fux0red for no good reason... fix it or I go public with what I know" hahahaha
That's a little disconcerting to know its bugged out without any flashing.. anyway back to the problem.. couldn't be as simple as getting the IMEI off the box or an invoice or even from your cellular provider from their records and just use whatever to restore it. It cannot be an illegal act to restore it the crime would be in changing it and therefore committing fraud over wire/telephony or whatever its called.. from my understanding its not the changing the number itself thats the criminal act but registering the fake IMEI on the network and using data or calling or texting is when you actually commit the chargeable offence. Same IMEI as original means no fraud or misrepresentation has taken place so no offence committed. You need that tech guru booth that sells cases but secretly the salesman has the mad skilz. They could do it no doubt at all. Hmm I remember a thread in the sgs2 boards about rebuilding the efs but from memory it was phone specific due to the address and the manual way you write the info.. sorry buddy outside my skillset so in terms of actually helping you get the right address to write to and what to write I'm no good to you. You need to find a guru in the sgs2/3 or similar that willing to help with this.

Restoring imei and efs on an unbrickable infuse?

Hi, the title says it all. Is it possible to restore imei and efs on a samsung infuse with unbrickable mod applied? Or unbrickable mod only possibility is to reflash the firmware? I mean i know that unbrickable mod is used to be able to get the phone on download mode but. Is it able to flash something to fix imei? Because i have tried just about everything to restore my Infuse imei with no luck. I know there are advanced tools to do so, But i was curious since Unbrickable mod go so deep in terms of changing that sequence i may be able to repair my imei somehow with it.
I posted an EFS repair file sometime back. It's either in a zip or a tar.
Do you have an idea on where is the file located(what thread)? My imei shows as null. I guess ill be able to fix it with that file right?
By the way, pretty cool to find another old school guy in terms of pcs. My first computer was an atari 400. Had a lot of fun with machine language and basic also. Every time i managed to draw a simple line with commands or maybe just saving programs using an old school tape recorder which was the old version of what we call cds and dvds nowadays ha ha... Oh that brought me some memories ha ha
Hey Truckerglenn, sorry for bothering you but i went thru every post you have made(all 19 pages) and i didnt find an efs file. Maybe its been deleted or something. The only thing close to that issue i found is the Restoring a dd backup with Odin (A fix for a badly broken EFS) thread but no file there. Maybe you can help me find it
Nevermind Glenn, i already found it. In case someone needs it heres the link to that thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1438113
Didnt worked for me, but maybe some lucky guys will be able to fix theirs with that file....
Sorry that it didn't work.
If you had an Atari400, then you'll remember the Happy boards that we used to put in the old 1050 drives. They made such a racket, but you could copy any copy protected disk.
Hey Truckerglenn, finally i managed to make it work!!! Wohoo! Im very happy, So when i was going to give up, i decided to give it a try again and heres what i did for the rest of the forum in case they have the same situation and want to give it a try:
I openned ODIN and clicked efs clear, I know its not recommended but i didnt have anything to lose so, I used the infuse unbrick files to take it back to FROYO, pit, pda and phone. Then i use your efs file and dropped it in the csc box. The phone flashed. And when it went into recovery i gave it a factory reset and rebooted. When it turned on Make shure enough it looked like nothing happened. But a couple seconds later the phone did have its signal and the baseband version was back also. I know its weird, but it worked for me. So if you have a phone showing no imei and baseband unknown why not give it a try??? You could not damage it any further than you already have!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great glad it worked. It'd been so long, that I'd forgotten the steps that I used. But now that you mentioned it, I do remember having to wipe the efs from within hemidal or odin.
I'm planning my escape from the digital world!

I'm glad you got this sorted out, enelyam.
I'm gonna post a link to this thread in the HOW TO thread I started so it can be reference for anyone else later.
Thanks for posting your results.
Add a [SOLVED] to your thread title so some other unfortunate soul (not wise enough to have 10 EFS folder back ups like me) who borked their phone later can find it too.
Thank you all got my imei back.
I have already hit the thanks button but felt compelled to write it here as well.
I was really hoping this would work for me, but when I dial in *#06# I get a "IMEI NULL/NULL" pop up. Any other ideas that could possibly work for me? I really don't want this phone to end up being just a music device.

Sph P100 NOT FOUND ON QSTP

i did a search on this form and i couldnt find nothing similar. to make a long story short when i bought this tablet i was able to put it on DIAG using launcher pro and a few other steps of coarse. and i u was able to read this device on QSTP and i used to get this on QSTP FFA6550-ZRF6500 same one as my Epic 4G. mow here is what happened i was flashing a stock tar ROM with Odin and by accident i checked the clear EFS on Odin and after i a succesfull process after my tab rebooed of caorse y lost all my 3g activation from the tab and when i went to QSTP to load all my activation again it was not able to be detected it on QSTP anymore. now if i go to device manager on windows or QSTP configuration its shows on what port the tab its connected on but under phone number it says NO PHONE. iam wondering what did got wiped? radio or what did i lost? or how can i get back this FFA6550-ZRF6500 or what ever its the right one into this tab? i know it used to have FFA6550-ZRF6500 but i dont know if there is another one for this tab or not. if anyone has any info please let me know thanks in advance..

Well, to be honest your writing style makes it incredibly hard to figure out what you are even talking about, and of course you aren't going to find what you need when you aren't even using the right terms. It's QPST, not QSPT or any thing other than QPST.

and you're in the wrong device forum as no tab plus has qualcomm chips, I imagine you have the Original 7" Tab correct?
I would still be willing to help, but I havent used the QSTP tool that much. We are familiar with Odin. you say you have no 3G, so you're ROM boots up? Can you check if you have an IMEI or an /EFS folder present? If not you may have a very difficult time recovering if its possible at all.
What do you use QSTP for? flashing radios?
More clear info and we can try to help, although Id start by searching you're devices thread.

I just had my Tab Plus JTAG'ed because I flashed a custom boot loader. ( I was aware I was doing so)
I highly recommend this site. If you're in a rush you can choose rush option. This guy is great, send him an email Im sure he can help.
do you have any /efs folder or nv_data.bin or nv_data.bak files anywhere?
Enjoy. Research a bit more and be careful flashing huh?

I also want to know why device loses IMEI.
I bought a Galaxy S i9000 from US, rooted it and flashed CM 9 on it. After that it stopped showing IMEI number.
Anyidea why this must have happened ? and How can this be fixed ?

I find it disturbing that you're willing to throw out such information without doing research on the matter first.
To address everyone's concerns more accurately, depending on the model of the phone, the IMEI could possibly be stored in a special partition as is with the LG-P925/P920 (a phone I own and HAVE lost the IMEI on before with a bad flash (came up with incorrect IMEI, had to manually re-program my phone)). If this special partition becomes damaged in any way, it can result in the loss of the IMEI and service. Also a possible problem is a radio firmware (aka baseband) that cannot read and understand the current formatting of this special partition, thus rendering your IMEI unreadable to the phone's current software. However this is easily fixed as you will just need to have a new baseband programmed into the phone that CAN read the partition which would then restore service.
If it appears you've lost your IMEI information, I would highly suggest the following: First, flash your phone BACK to STOCK. See if it's restored, then proceed from there with accepted, tried and true steps to flash your phone to a custom ROM, and follow the directions provided to the "T". If this is not an option or does not work and your IMEI information is still not showing/invalid, you may wish to post in a relevant thread or start a thread in the forums for your device model in order to obtain more detailed support.
If you have not flashed the phone or done anything special with it, but the IMEI appears to have been lost, this may be damage to that partition for some reason, though it's highly unlikely. With flashing a phone, typically it's a newer baseband that does not work with the phone that is the reason for this information loss, but as with the OP, if he truly has not flashed the phone and is 100% stock, it may be either a corrupted partition, or failing hardware, either way, in his case I would recommend a reflash to stock (out of the box), and possibly a trip to the local carrier store for support.
The phone doesn't lose its IMEI, maybe a root needed app change it.

So it's not lost. As you even said it could be a damaged partition, or some flash that makes the IMEI unreadable to the phone's software.
But not "lost." Thus why I quoted them in my post. Want me to pull up dictionary.com for you?
I was trying to tell OP to rephrase the question because he was being very unclear. He may not even be talking about what you just said, your story on your phone.
No need to put an icy edge to your voice "throw out information without doing research." This is actually rather offensive for immediately assuming I'm spewing out lies to the OP.

Not saying you're lying, however you didn't offer any idea as to why it would disappear. Yes, the IMEI can be entirely lost as in my case (all 0s as my partition became completely corrupted and unrecoverable, and then a completely new random one which had to be reprogrammed after I managed to install a new copy of the partition), but it requires special circumstances. In his case, it may or may not be "lost" but you did little more than offer him a cop out answer without giving him all the information available. If he's asking a question, he obviously wants information and to learn, and I am not for withholding information or providing half-truths. Flat out telling him that it's not "lost" is a half-truth as we do not know the full extent of his situation, and in instances like this, it's better to provide him with more answers than not since we don't have all the details. If he would reply and explain what happened, we could be more definitive, but as it stands, giving him both sides of the coin is more beneficial. TMYK
At this point, I'm exiting the Q & A section, this is exactly why I don't hang around here. Yes, I'm "icy" but I try to be as warm and helpful as possible and yes, I step on toes a lot, so I'm just going to show myself the door. Good luck OP with your IMEI issue.

Read the Q&A section of the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S4 (SGH-M919) forums. I learned by reading the forums, you can too. I will reply no further than to provide you the following link.
Cynagen said:

Hello there! I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4, and all of the sudden it said mmc_read failed, Reactivation Lock: ON, QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: Enable (CSB), Don't turn off target, etc..
I went to Vodafone's shop where i bought and they told me to simply try the factory reset. I did it and now appears to have lost it's IMEI and all basic info that it's needed to function from turning on to installing a latest firmware for android.
All jokes aside, my cellphone seems ready to hit the grave. Any help or tip is welcome

Strange efs/imei problem, wont flash to stock

so I have a SR I just put a new (used, off ebay but new to me) motherboard in, and it works fine except for no imei/baseband, so obviously no data/voice/etc.
the efs folder seems to be fine...imei folder is in there, keystr file is there...I don't understand what the problem is.
the worst part is, only certain roms will flash...I cannot flash to stock, I've tried with odin and from recovery, a couple different stock versions of GB, ICS, and still no luck. It actually flashes, then does the "android is upgrading" screen, but then bootloops on the optimizing apps part. I've tried to flash to stock probably 20 times now, wiped everything, fixed permissions, etc...without fail it bootloops every time.
the only roms Ive gotten to flash are slim and jedi...no stock rom will flash, nor avatar and a couple others I've tried. but slim and jedi flash and boot right up...just have blank imei/baseband.
I've scoured threads for days trying to figure out what to do here...nobody seems to have my exact problem, and everything I've found about restoring efs/imei/baseband has involved flashing to stock...which I can't do.
anyone have any ideas?
Have you tried flashing different radios (baseband)?

Take a look at this thread, it may help. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25172599#post25172599
thanks for the replies...
I've flashed UCM1 and UCLL3 radios, they flash fine but no change...still can't flash to stock and no imei/baseband/service.
That fix thread was one of the first I found, but as I still have my keystr file in the efs folder, I didn't think it would apply to me...I suppose I could make an external backup of my efs, delete it and try one of those methods from scratch.
read through the restore to stock sticky http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652398 and go through the trouble shooting sections, if that doesn't help u could have bad hw

Hey, Im facing the exact same problem! just that my imei turned to 0 and basband to unknown after i upgraded to cynogenmod 10.1-rc.2.
It was working fine till suddenly one day i lost network. I tried everything like you did. So far ive had no luck fixing my efs!
What you can do is download QTPS and in it there is a RF NV Item manager to rewrite your efs. For that you need to put you phone into DIAG mode unfortuantely i cant get to that on 10.1nightly cynogenmod that im using.
I m stuck. I know for sure flashing roms or radios wont help at all. the same boot loop problem happens when I flash using odin, it use to work perfectly fine earlier.
Some how the nv_data.bin and such files are missing from my efs>imei folder that contain the imei data.
If you find something please lemme know too [email protected]

will do.
also, you may know this already, but just in case, be aware the skyrocket doesn't use nv_data.bin...I thought it did too when I first started searching around about this, and when i couldnt find it I was pretty freaked out...but then i found out the skyrocket actually uses 3 encrypted partitions rather than a nv_data file. so if you have at least some files in your efs/imei folder you may be in a better spot than it seems. of course if its totally empty, you'll likely have a lot more work to do.
I'll update if I have any luck.

I actually have octopus box as well as the z3x samsung tool installed, however, they're both server activation based...the software is useless without an $89 (octopus) to $120( (z3x) activation.
I'd rather not spend that kind of money for something I'll likely only need once, so I'm gonna do as much as I can in the way of free solutions, and if I have no luck there I'll probably just send it to mobiletechvideos for their $40 efs/imei repair. I'm guessing they use one or more of these repair box programs themselves anyway, and will do the same job for only $40.
thanks for the suggestion anyway though..

There's this polish guy who probably also has all the same boxes and he takes €10 for imei repair by remote desktop.

And finally you could try helping the op of this thread to add compatibility for skyrocket, this would be free.

Isn't there any way to fix my imei on my own ?
Mt efs folder also looks good now with all the files it should have but still the imei remains unaffected.
Also i'd like to know that the qualcom nv tool showed my esn as dead and mied as 000....000 does the dead thing mean it isnt repairable ?
I tried using QPTS but this is where I get stuck.. (img attatched)

People want money for it because it's mostly used for making stolen phones work again.
That means real life risks like fines, jail etc.
Of course there are lots of examples when people experiment with this or that and delete their imei accidentally, or want to change the imei for some other reason. But these are more rare.
An update...
I managed to finally get flashed to stock...still null/null imei & baseband unknown. Efs folder is still there with files, keystr file is on...not sure what else I can do myself at this point so, I guess its time for the Polish dude or mobiletechvideos.

Ohkies.
Did you ask the polish guy about the reason why he was not able to fix your mobile. Coz, I'm just having similar problem like yours. I tried working with all the local samsung service centre guys, nothing worked. One guy said that my mobile IMEI is locked in some database, so it is not picking or detecting my SIM, hence locked. I know that my mobile is unlocked and is valid, I ignored his comments.
I assume you changed your MotherBoard of the mobile with the new cracked SR's, so that it could take new IMEI instilled in new board. Is it so?
Also, please suggest me about any alternatives on how to fix this problem.:crying:

[Q] Galaxy Note 2 - where is IMEI stored?

Hi,
After installing a custom ROM, the IMEI reported by Android is different from the one on the sticker under the battery.
I believe the IMEI is somewhere in the 'efs' folder, but where exactly? There are all sorts of files and folders in that folder.
There is even a folder called 'imei', but it contains just one file called 'mps-code.dat', and that is only three bytes long, which isn't enough to contain the 15-digit IMEI.
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Steve

No, my phone stopped working and I think it's because the IMEI has got corrupted when I was messing with various custom ROMs - it no longer matches the sticker. I want to figure out a way to fix it - I can't bear the thought that I've just bricked a fine phone that I paid good money for.
Where in the efs folder? There are loads of files and folders in there.
Thanks,
Steve
Wait wait,
You can't text or connect to the network?
Try flashing a official firmware and see if the IMEI matches...
It's not that simple to modify your IMEI n.o, special softwares are required to do this.... It's stored in .nv_data
Don't you have any efs backups?
IMEI getting corrupt is seen many times in s3 and note 2 devices....
And also, modifying your iMEi is illegal, but people out there use a software to do it.... May not be good to discuss this software here...
And one more thing, does your phone shows a generic IMEI number when you dial *#06* ?

Not a generic one. It's really weird, because it's almost but not quite the same:
Sticker inside phone:
xxxxxx05861xxx3
*#06#:
xxxxxx05681xxx1
The ...86... has reversed to ...68... and the final 3 has become 1.
I'm an idiot and furious with myself.
Thanks again for any help you can give, though.

Wow! I've just seen how much it costs to buy that eight-tentacled device who's name shall not be mentioned.
$135 makes poor sense if it's only going to be used once. Perhaps the best idea is to check my local phone repairers until I find one who has the device?
Steve
Bumpety bump just this once:
Any chance of correcting the IMEI myself?
Thanks,

Can't find some content for your device but please do one last precaution before following any more tutorials, backup your efs folder and place it in a safe place.......
If you don't find anything, I can provide you with some guides for s3 (my device ) but don't know if they'll work for you....
One advice, reset your phone and send it to any service center.... They may charge you if you are out of warranty.....
here is a random thread i found but I have a bad feeling about the person.... Carry on at your own risk but back up your current efs, it may be recoverable but can move to a unrecoverable state after some repair attempts so, we can have hope....

Thank you again, eatsleep! I really appreciate your continuing help.
I've gone about as deeply into this as I think I can, without trying even more bits of dodgy software from around the web which might make the situation worse. So, I think my next step should be to take it to a reputable service centre on a no-fix-no-fee basis. If they can't fix it either, then I'll regard it as a write-off and - on the grounds that there is nothing to lose - I'll have one last go with anything/everything I can find on the net.
Whatever the outcome I will report back so that others can benefit from my mistakes!
Thanks everyone who tried so hard to help - have a good weekend.

And if you fail, then we can try some softwares out there, which might me improper to discuss here, but leave that for only when everything fails....

Restored her back up, and by mistake recovered her efs in my phone. Now imei shows 000000. Time to send it back to Samsung for a new board. That's if they have one. Other then that you can try flashing a compete stock rom but normally that doesn't happen.
You learned a lesson. Never restore a backup from a different device.

Without an IMEI/EFS backup that was created before doing this, you're not gonna find much of a solution for restoring the device.

Wait wait,
You can't text or connect to the network?
Try flashing a official firmware and see if the IMEI matches...
It's not that simple to modify your IMEI n.o, special softwares are required to do this.... It's stored in .nv_data
Don't you have any efs backups?
IMEI getting corrupt is seen many times in s3 and note 2 devices....
And also, modifying your iMEi is illegal, but people out there use a software to do it.... May not be good to discuss this software here...
And one more thing, does your phone shows a generic IMEI number when you dial *#06* ?
