I just rooted my One S using this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2008440. I flashed Clockworkmod touch recovery and installed the latest CM10 Nightly. I ended up installing the standard Clockworkmod recovery (non touch) through ROM manager once my phone was up and running. Everything on my phone was working great until I let my battery run all the way down to the point my phone shut off. I plugged my phone in and it automatically booted to recovery. I waited a little bit for the phone to charge and selected "reboot system now" from recovery. My phone did not boot and only goes to recovery. When it reboots, it briefly flashes a green stripe twice in the upper third of the screen prior to booting all the way but never shows the HTC screen or anything other than recovery. I tried reflashing the ROM in recovery, formatting every partition in recovery, entering fasboot using ADB, rebooting using ADB, and nothing seems to get my phone to do anything other than boot to recovery. I tried running the latest RUU and it fails (presumably because it can't enter fasboot). I tried pressing and holding volume+, -, and the power button at the same time, I tried holding just the volume down button while holding the power button, but no luck so far.
Is there a way to reflash the recovery from ADB while the phone is in recovery? Is there any other way I can force my phone into fastboot? Can I safely use the method in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1990043 to "unbrick" my phone by entering commands via ADB shell while in recovery rather than in terminal emulator? Thanks in advance for all the collective XDA wisdom that I'm sure will help get my phone back up and running.
Hey I had the same problem about a week ago. Are you sure you used the latest the RUU file?

I'm using RUU_Ville_U_ICS_40_S_TMOUS_2.35.531.7_Radio_1.08ts.50.02.16_10.08e.50.04L_release_279577_signed.exe. I don't think it would matter which one I used though because it gives me an error that says it can't connect to the phone.
Try holding down the power button for 10 sec and then let go of the power and hold down the volume button. I had to do this a couple of times until I finally got into the bootloader

Amazing! That did the trick. Thanks a ton for that info. I knew it would be something simple.
I also had a similar problem. Seemed to occur only when I had the USB cable plugged into the phone. Once I removed it, I could then get into fastboot. Once I was in fastboot, I simply plugged the USB cable back in, and everything worked flawlessly.
All that crap you got wouldn't have happened if you use TWRP instead of CWM.

Here's the long and short of it. This phone is a pain in the ass to get into boot recovery. I can flash it with Odin like there's no tomorrow but when I put an update.zip into the root of the phone and then try to get the boot screen using power button and volum up and down at the same time, I can litterally hold them for 10 minutes and it just keeps flashing the AT&T Worldphone screen and will not go into recovery mode. It has but it is very random. My original Captivate would boot into recovery on demand, not this one. I flashed back to stock using Odin earlier today, then I ran Designgear's SRE V1.2.1a which is amazing, it took me 1 hr to get the phone into recovery mode. Now I have put Fightspot's battery indicator in an update.zip of it in the root of the phone and it won't boot into recovery.
I am a nooob and don't know how to open an ADB shell on my computer to get it into recovery. I don't know any ADB commands. Can anyone help? Is there another way to boot into recovery.
Thanks

Just throwing it out there. Are you holding all three buttons continually? Because once the ATT screen comes up, you only need to keep holding Vol up and Vol Down.
Turn phone off
Hold Vol up + Vol down + Power
ATT screen comes up
Release power, but keep holding Vol up + vol down
Yeah I did that. It just turned on once I let go of the power button. I used Terminal Emulator and got into boot screen. Worked great. Thanks for the suggestion, this phone has only one issue and that's the issue. As long as I can use Terminal Emulator I'm fine. I have managed to get it into recovery using the buttons 3 times. Weird.
You have to hold all three buttons until the att screen goes away. Then let go of the power button.

I know. It worked fine on my first Captivate, not this one.
just turn off the power and hold both vol buttons down while pluggin in the usb on to the phone and it will do the trick
plug the phone into your computer. Download the Android SDK
Then... command window -> browse to sdk/tools directory -> adb reboot recovery.
Ok So I tried Flashing the recovery through rom manager and when it downloaded it asked for su permission I Pressed allow clockwork gave me an error stating i did not have enough rights to flash recovery rom manager force closed and the phone turned off and now when I try restarting I get a boot loop at the LG screen. When I press Vol- + power it says S/W Upgrade Please wait while upgrading but does not do anything after that its been on the screen for more than 20 minutes any ideas how i could fix this?
Are you rooted?
Have u tried a battery pull? After that try to boot up to bootloader by holding power+vol down(u shouldnt get the update thing after battery pull). Make sure it says s-off. It seems like ur not rooted correctly since u got the permissions error
Yea I Rooted Using One Click method I was able to use root for other programs like titanium back up tried a battery pull already and tried holding vol down + power but it takes me to the upgrading screen
I'd give the nvflash method a shot. When I flashed cwm, I specified the wrong file and couldn't boot. Once I figured that out and got it right it booted up fine.

You'll need to have the recovery flashed using the NVFlash method as previously stated. The Rom Manager method seems pretty worthless to me so far. Also, have your USB cable unpugged when trying to boot to recovery.
Great news I pulled the battery while it still said upgrading I turned on by holding volume down and power and I held until and android Icon came up and it rebooted itself and loaded as if I had done a master reset thanx for the tips

I have flashed the CWM from TF201 by accident. Now the tablet is stuck in that CWM mode. I can't connect to usb using adb mode. Power+volume down does not work anymore. Any way I can reflash the correct CWM?
THanks
If you can boot to OS - you can use fastboot to flash any recovery.. or flash TWRP from goomanager.
upd: sry..don't see about "stuck".

I have made the same mistake. Although I can get the device to fastboot USB mode. I have tried to use CWM with the restore I made before I put in Cyanogenmod 9, as well as putting on the Cyanogenmod experimental #2 for TF300. No error messages at all and it wipes data and cash without any problems.
But I get locked on the Asus boot screen and it does not continue ie I am stuck as well.
I have as well tried to use the TWRP 2.1.5. I get the Teamwin loggo screen, it wipes all the data and verifies all the filesystems and reboots. Still stuck.
Is the device bricked ?
upd:The TF300 can not be shutoff either. When you hold the power button the screen goes black, but after ~5 s the device is starting again and is still stuck on the Asus bootup screen.
if you reboot it holding vol down and power, can you get back into the boot menu, to reselect fastboot?
if holding the power button doesn't switch it off, what happens if you leave it to run out of batteries then do this?
then you can flash the correct recovery.img

Yes, I can get access to the fastboot and I have already tried to flash with the recovery.img. I have as well let the battery run out and tried it once more with the same result.
Still stuck on the asus bootup screen.

Hare,
I have same problem.tab cannot power off. Just reboots into cwm.
I was thinking to drain bat. Thanks for sharing that info.
There are a lot of topics about people who broke their devices with TF201's recovery.
Afaik, no one recovered it. Send to Asus.
So the device is bricked then :'(.
Thanks for clearing it up.

RMA..
Guillaume,
Thanks for clarification.
I have read that ASUS wants 700USD for replacing/reflashing the bootloader. That was for the tf201. Any way to nvflash it back to factory? I don't believe that they have to change the MB.
I have no warranty left, but I don't want to be gouged by them either.
Any thoughts, info?
Hi,
I've do the same mistake, but I can use adb.
Do youhave any news about our problem?
Thanks
Midyr
unable to power off
My issue is that I have the CWM for the tf201. I did the update from the CWM app in Android. Bad idea. So now the tab does not power off s.t. I can get into the power+vol down mode. Adb does not work since I cannot ( don't know how) to make it go into the usb debugging mode. I have tried several things none of which have worked. Still stuck.
I wanted some feedback for a RMA from ASUS, posted it here but sor far no answers.
Not sure if it would really work, but on my Evo, I don't have to completely power off the phone to do the recovery sequence. I can do it during a normal reboot. There is a point just before the device starts booting again where it is technically "off", and if I hold volume down (don't even have to hold power on my Evo; volume down seems to be the only necessary button) starting at this point, the phone will boot into the bootloader.
So, next time the device reboots, just start holding volume down (possibly power also, just in case) at the "off" point.
Two weeks ago I had an ICS rom installed and was tired of the poor battery life, so I tried to unroot my phone and bring it back to stock to start over later. I got the stock 2.3.3 installed and decided not to unroot and just use the rom.
I followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14159600#post14159600
But I didn't actually use SOC to unroot, because I wasn't sending my phone back to TMobile.
Today I was looking to see if there were any ICS roms that I might like to try out and found HFS. I downloaded it and tried to boot into CWM (Power + Vol down), and instead of going into CWM, it did the little android install splash screen, and just wiped my phone. So I installed RomManager and tried to install the rom through that. It rebooted, and did the same thing. So I "fake flashed" CWM through RomManager, and it booted into CWM finally. I thought I was in the clear, so I factory reset, wiped everything, and installed the HFS rom. It ran all the way trhough and installed successfully, until I rebooted. Now it's stuck on the white LG logo. I can't boot into CWM! It just goes to the android update splash and restarts.
To make things so much worse, I can't even boot into S/W update! I remove the battery and hold both volume buttons and plug in the USB. It does nothing. No lights, no driver installation prompt on my computer. Nothing...
What can I do at this point?
You need to re-install CWM, when you went back to stock it probably reverted your recovery to stock as well
Alright, I can get into s/w update by holding only the down arrow... But now I can't get NVFlash to acknowledge that my phone is plugged in. I've installed the LG drivers, ADB drivers and the LG Modem drivers. It doesn't ask for the APX drivers, although I've installed them in the past...
What do?
Just making sure, you are removing the battery, holding down the VOL up/down while you are plugging it in W/O the battery?
Yes I am. But it doesn't work if I push both, then plug it in. I only push the bottom and it boots into S/W
FYI, never, and I mean, NEVER use ROM Manager to flash CWM Recovery. That's like asking for a brick.

Re-read his question. In order to get into apx mode you must remove the battery, keep it out, and, while holding the volume up AND down buttons, plug in the phone. If you already have the drivers installed itbwill not prompt for them. Just. Flash cwm with nvflash.

My apologies for any misunderstanding as my answer was really short. But what I meant to say was, when I remove the battery and push both volume buttons down, then plug it in, I wait for 3 minutes and it still does nothing. But if I remove the battery, hold only the volume down button, it will boot into S/W. But when I use this method, it doesn't show up in the device manager as anything. I only get the sound of connecting a USB device, other than that, it's just not recognized by my PC. I've tried to run NVFlash anyway, and it says USB not connected. I'm at a complete loss...
Well I actually had a problem like this ( the not found usb part ) ehen I "bricked" my phone and what I did was I kept trying this for about 5 minutes and it worked. So my advice ie to check if you have the USB driver installed then keep trying to NVFlash.
If I helped you, push the thanks button for goodness sakes!
The CWM file in my Infuse 4g is corrupt. When holding down volume up + volume down and pressing power button; CWM restore comes up but is garbled. I can not use it. Is there anyway to solve this? The phone is bricked.
That is due to missing GB bootloaders. Search around and you will find how to flash them on download mode.
Use qkster's uclb3 heimdall one-click twice, the second time with the bootloaders checkbox ticked on.
I've been at it all day with no luck.
Went to the page suggested and could not get it to work.
Went to several more with the same luck.
Heimdall can't detect it. Odin can't detect it.
However, adb devices finds it.
adb reboot works but gets the same garbled up screen again and again.
Downloaded 3e_recovery_no_sig_check.zip
Installed it by adb push ... adb reboot recovery gives me the same garbled up cwm recovery window.
Reinstalled it several times... same thing.
I really need some help.
I have no phone... landline or other wise.
What happened was;
Rooted the phone.
Use modmanager to install cwm and install a rom.
All seemed to go well. The instructions said the new rom would boot up twice then to add the gapps zip.
It just kept booting up over and over for over an hour. (looping)
When I did the 'vol up + vol down and press power button to go into recovery mode, I got the garbled up recovery screen.
That where the phone is right now. Nothing but a brick.
Any help greatly appreciated.

You said you used "modmanager"... did you mean ROM manager? ROM manager doesn't play well with most of these ROMs. Could be part of the problem. Get rid if it and do what andros11 said.

Having trouble getting into 'download mode' after flashing.
With data cable connected to PC and phone.
vol down + vol up + power = e3 recovery
vol down + power = normal boot
vol up + power = normal boot
Without data cable connected to phone same as above.
How do I get back into 'downoad mode'?
