[Q] File is a .bin not a .tar.md5 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello all,
I have spent a couple hours, probably not searching for the wrong term(s), and have not found a satisfactory answer this question.
I have been preparing to flash my new S3 following this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35418324
I have downloaded the vralec and vrblk3 bootchains, but when I run Odin and click on browse next to PDA it does not find the files as they end with a .(dot)bin instead of the .(dot)tar.(dot)md5 extension.
I do not want to ruin this phone so I need to know if I am supposed to use the Phone instead of the PDA section of Odin, which is the only place that the .bin file(s) are listed.
Any assistance or links to an answer would be awesome, thanks.
John

The files you need to root all end with a .zip.md5 if you down loaded them from the XDA download links on the boot guide page.
the files you need are:
VRALEC.bootchain.tar.md5
TWRP3210VWZ.tar.md5
VRBLK3_bootchain.tar.md5 - if you want stock Jelly Bean
bootloaders
CWN6012TouchVZW.tar.md5 or
TWRP2310VZW.tar.md5
superuser file
SuperSU_Bootloader_FIXED.zip
Make sure you are using this guide if you have updated to Jelly Bean 4.1.1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439
This all worked fine for me. Also there is a link for the YouTube video on the guide page.

It's really only one file.. its just split in 2 for downloading sake.. when you extract it does part 1 then connects to part 2 and extracts the rest

[Q] where can I find the PDA file for odin to bring my phone back to stock?

Does anybody know where I can find the PDA file for odin to bring my SGS4G back to stock. I have been searching everywhere and cannot find it. Thanks
You haven't been searching everywhere. search for the bible thread and look at the guides section. The first one is the noobs guide to odin. Follow that and you should be good.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App
Yea I've been looking in the bible and have read that post and downloaded the file. My comp kept seeing it as a .rar file and realized that was the problem. Appreciate the reply even though the solution has been right in front of me the whole time.
Watching some videos on 0din and a lot of people are saying to use a .pit file.. Is that not needed?
A pit gile is not needed just fladh the pda file a.d make sure re-partition is unchecked also what browser are you using also extract it and open odin click pda and locate file where it says browse if it finds it the file should look like a piece of paper In a something .md5.tar and hit start shiuld take 2-3 mins
If I helped you dont forget to hit the tnanks button

Thanks to you both... worked like a charm
Found the Bible thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=668090
But can't find the PDA file. Any ideas?
---------- Post added at 01:56 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:49 AM ----------
Reason I'm looking for this file here is because the PDA file in this zip package:
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/odin-darkyrom-10-2-resurrection-gt-i9000.4272/
is corrupted. Tried unzipping with Winrar, Winzip, 7zip, disabled my anti-virus, nothing works. Keep getting a 'CRC check failed' error.
Nick:
Based on this post by you:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19012178&postcount=1
And the darkyrom link you listed above, you do not have a Galaxy S 4G.
The bible thread you posted was for the HTC Dream: G1.
I think you need to take caution and READ before you start flashing your phone. It looks to me you thought recently you hard bricked your phone. You need to educate yourself before you turn your phone into a paperweight.
I saw somebody had already directed you to the correct forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=656
Yet you still posted here and found a bible in the HTC Dream: G1 section. Paying attention will help. Good luck!
Help!
I tried to flash Jellyblast v3 custom ROM on my Samsung Galaxy Y s5360l but its stuck at boot now. i have Odin downloaded and i downloaded the necessary files from hotfile to flash the stock rom back on my phone but when i click PDA on odin and search for the file, it is not appearing. Help would be greatly appreaciated. Thank you.
I would recommend searching the proper forum for your phone.
Maybe, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2298737 for starters. Or,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465800&page=140.
Help!....Again
I dont know if i have the newest firmware updated but does that make a difference? My only problem is that when I open Odin and click PDA and search for the files they do not appear. Can anyone give me instructions to fix this?
Steps to fix:
1) Follow champ1919's directions and go to the right forum.
2) Read. Someone else might have a solution for you.
3) Don't necropost, if nothing seems similar to your question then make a new thread. Necroposting will make people want to ignore you.
4) Ask your question there, where the people actually know your phone.
5) Follow the directions in that post. Don't keep making new threads just because people aren't answering you fast enough.

[Q] Some questions regarding the Recovery step on the Tutorial

hey there, have some questions regarding Step 2 Recovery from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583427
for some reason, it won't let me post as i have less than 10 posts.
so, going straight to the questions:
1) i downloaded SDK, now, do i have to install it? i actually installed it without knowing if i should or shouldn't and have no idea what to do with it.
2) was i supposed to extract the the Official CWM of koush? downloaded this one rather than Paul's interim but i didn't know what to do with it, so i just extracted into C:\fastboot
3) when he says "Place the CWM File where the fastboot.exe is (Downloaded with the SDK)" does he mean place the extracted bits with the installed SDK program into C:\fastboot? or does he mean leave the installer as is with the zip file as is in c:\fastboot? or a different combination altogether?
4) what is the name of the recovery in "fastboot flash recovery name_of_the_recovery.img"? i looked around and they said do recovery recovery, but that didn't work for me (couldn't find file error).
5) i have s4, is it wiser to go with the interim or official?
please feel free to ask if any of these questions are a bit confusing; tried my best to ask what i'm confused about. thanks for reading, and i'll greatly appreciate any help!

Rooting trouble VW Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate

Ok. I hope this is in the right spot. I have read thru the forums and can not seem to find a solution to my problem..
To start, I have a Verizion Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate. I am wanting to Root it in order to install Jellybean Rom.. Im using ODIN for this.
These are the two links I am currently using as guides..
theunlockr.com/2012/11/09/how-to-root-the-samsung-fascinate-odin-method
galaxyforums.net/forum/fascinate-rs-guides/1967-how-root-froyo-gingerbread-your-fascinate
Here are the files I have downloaded...
SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones
su-2.3.6.1.x
Superuser (ClockworkMod Recovery)
my problem is Odin is not reading ANY of the above files when im instructed to use the PDA button. the instruction tells me to choose the Clockwork (CWM3_Voodoo.tar .md5) But that does not exist-The files I have downloaded are in zip files. I've extracted these file to folders and Odin still does not read the files. I guess what I need are updated links to these files and maybe an updated guide to rooting my. Thanks!!

First ever attempt to upgrade my tab and failed! Need some direction

With much embarrassment I have to admit I really thought I was smarter than a tablet and a few simple clicks. Apparently not. So now I am here with issues that I am sure someone can answer because your more advanced than a few clicks and a tablet.
I have briefly looked for a resolve to my issue but it is very overwhelming. So if you can just point me in the right direction and hold my hand at the same time I would be very appreciative :good:
Issues:
I originally downloaded Odin, GT-P5113 4.0.4, CM 12.1, CW Unofficial Touch 6.0.3.3 p5100 zip. I launced Odin and followed the steps from a you-tube video. Well upon my surprise CW was not on the tablet so I was at the Tabs generic recovery screen. I choose the option to delete all user data ( lots of no's to select from and one Yes). Well continuing to be a fool I completed this process. When the tablet rebooted I was stuck at the Samsung logo screen. I decided to get to the download screen and install smt810_cf_autoroot.tar. After loading this tar via Odin I became stuck on the Android man downloading screen. Waited a bit and nothing. Then my tablet shut down and came up with "Firmware upgrade encountered and issue" with the tablet-yellow ! icon and pc icon.
Another issue is when i download these files Odin will not find them in my file. Why? I usually keep them unzipped as a .rar in order for odin to show them so I can select PDA and attempt to install them.
Is there a way to still upgrade the Android system and fix this Firmware error at the same time?
Basically I am so new to this I need specific directions on resolving my issue. So if anyone has a moment please help me out here. I appreciate your time and knowledge
And I can use Odin to install to the tablet. If that helps Just not in the download screen on the tablet.

first you should download the stock firmware of your device, if it's p5113 then search and download the same firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2203309 check this thread if it's there, if it's not please google it, if already have it, ignore..
Once you have it, you should get the firmware md5 file (by unzipping the rar.) Odin will take tar file or md5 file. put it in Odin AP/PDA check the thread for all the details on how to flash correctly.
you have to get into download mode by pressing the power and volume up/right to do that once the firmware is successfully flashed and your tab starts running again. first get this part done.
Always use files that are meant only for your device. if your tab say p5113. then make sure the file you are flashing states it is meant for p5113 and not p5100. (maybe not in the rooting case cause it's same
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2203309 here for all)
At some places you will find files marked as p51xx. those files are generally safe too and are meant for the p51xx tab series but that is later stage.
I appreciate the feedback and have found I had tried to flash my tablet with GT-P5110 software when i actually have a GT-P5113TS. I have found the firmware but my issue is when I download anything and extract it with using rar. I never get a .tar file or anything Odin can not recognize to select PDA and use.. What would cause that? How do I fix this?
Thank You

Try winrar or 7zip, it should extract, you need md5 or tar format in pda section. If not what error are you getting? There must be some file when you open the archive?
Basically when I download the zip file I want and then extract it to a specific folder. All I after unzipping is File folders with other file folders inside,Img, File, PROP, and SH. I never extract anything that is a Tar file or anything Odin can recognize when on PDA within Odin. Plus a lot of times I click on a link for a download off this site and it sends me to some watch-movies website. Not a actual download. Or I am just missing it.

Maybe it's a bad link to your stock file then. Perhaps someone can give proper file link to the stock firmware. Inside the zip it's basically a md5 file for firmware to flash. Sadly I don't have a proper yoi will have to find of the net.
