I'm after a Nexus One car dock, the 100% genuine article.
Problem is I'm based in France so can't get one through Google and don't want to use Ebay.
I can't find anyone who stocks them so just wondering if anyone on here knows of a source.

Wait for a bit. The Nexus One will hit stores soon, apparently, and I'm assuming the accessories will come with it, and, if not, I heard a rumor that the HTC website will be selling Nexus accessories too. I have the car dock, and the only thing I don't like about it is the built in speaker quality, other than that, it's brilliant. Well, and the fact that I have to take my case off in order to get it to fit, but I have to do that with my bedside charger dock as well.

Thanks for the advice. I guess I'll have to wait.
The 3.99 euro mount I got in the local supermarket does the job and it was the speakers that was the real seller for me so if they're not up to much waiting won't kill me.
I used this mob to get my nexus one and the car dock over to Australia.
Don't know if they ship to france, but they probably do. All you do is sign up(free) you get an address with them, ship the dock to the address and they will ship it to you, they don't seem to charge commission, i think they get a discount with DHL and charge you regular price. so it seems a pretty good deal.

I have just received an email from Mobilefun telling me I will not be getting the car mount I pre-ordered as it is now discontinued. I am not sure whether we should be worried or not that the official Samsung official mount for our few month old phones is now not going to be available. I have never seen a product discontinued before it was even sold.
Most peculiar. I've been checking around here too, no accessory to be found. Really need a car mount.

It's a real nice car kit.
The Brodit ones not bad but neither of them really appeals to me. I wanted one I could just clip the SGS into and it would be screen mounted and powered. No messing with wires or anything. I have tried to email Samsung about it but I am not holding onto any hope of a reply.
I bought one of the spider foot screen mount and it came with a car charger, leather pouch and a laynard. I was that impressed with it that I bought a second for my friend!

I got the same one, do you ever have trouble getting the phone out of the holder? My clip seems to be very stubborn and always catches on the backplate of the phone, just wondering if you had the same problem
Thought I would share with you what the higher ups in Samsung have to say about this.

Retailers began to advertise them for sale and to order them from yourselves. Two months later the retailers were told by Samsung that they were discontinued. This was before ANY had been delivered to the retailers and as I have said only two months after they had been announced. The retailers then contacted their customers, myself amongst them, and informed us of this. I have been trying ever since to get an answer from yourselves as to why this line had been discontinued in all countries apart from the USA market just two months after they were announced and before any had been sold except those sold in the USA. A greater part of the 10 million+ Galaxy S phones sold were not sold to the USA market yet that market is the only one that has these promised accessories available. If you cannot provide an answer would you now raise this enquiry to the next tier please.

The reason why the unit won’t be available in any of the Samsung subsidiaries is due to sales and marketing reasons. As a manufacture of many products, sometimes a product that is closed to being released can be stopped due to the market for that product changing and to this reason the product can become discontinued.

Well, thats a gilbert answer... Gadgetization is androids weakest spot. And what gadgets and bling there is, well its fairly low quality.
This is iPhone's main advantage. One design and a forest of 3rd party manufacturers that have grown out of their garages and become professional suppliers.
There would be a huge upside for Samsung/HTC/Sony to mimic this by setting up their own production lines to mimic that market. I guess the problem is no one in house is willing to risk their neck and the people that sit on the money don't understand this part of the iPhone world.
I don't want to use both hands while attaching the device to a car mount - so 3rd party accessories are no-go.

the first order was lost, so they sent another one, which arrived in 5 days or something like that.
Yes, it works as designed.
Snap it in, push the USB to the phone (the small box at one end of the mount) with one finger, that's it.
The phone detects immediately that it is a car mount and if you have installed the car app it starts also without delay.

Same thing here with desk dock (original as far as I can say) bought in Poland on Ebay-ish website. Samsung's app downloaded from xda (it's here around somewhere) jumps in the moment I connect the phone. Have problems with line-out though, but I'm on custom ROM so maybe that's the problem.
Nevertheless it really looks like S is making monkeys out of us.

I want the official car dock... simple right?
Problem is that I live in Canada, HTC won't ship it here or to a mailbox on their side of the border. They require a US credit card or whatever. Is there any way to get these from elsewhere?

My recommendation is that you try to get it used from either Amazon or Ebay, I don't think that you have any other options.
I don't have the original dock, as my car has integrated bluetooth, but I bought this car mount: Kensington Windshield /Vent Car Mount with Quick-Release Cradle for iPhone/iPod touch. Yes, I know what it says, but it works perfectly with the N1, especially if you have a case and don't want to take your phone out of it every time you get in your car.
As far as a car charger, you need to get this: Motorola Vehicle Power Adapter MicroUSB Rapid Rate Charger, there is no other charger that works better than this, and it is actually very cheap (US$ 5.49). It will actually charge your phone while using navigation, with GPS and bluetooth active, and full screen brightness, that's how good this charger is.
I actually modded the mount so it will hold the cable, I will try to post a picture later on.

ebay, I tried that. I don't want to pay $200 for a car dock. They are so over priced on there. Amazon.com doesn't ship most of their stuff to canada, however I did find it on there (thanks). I will try purchasing one of these and see what happens.
In the US does HTC have a store you can walk into to buy this dock? I find it doubtful but I'm going on vacation in the US next week, thinking maybe I could pick one up...

No, HTC doesn't have stores in the US at all. I know that a few months ago, some T-Mobile stores were carrying some of the N1 accessories, but I think that that is a very long shot. If you are coming here, I would recommend that you order it from HTC and have it express mailed to wherever you will be staying, that should solve your problem. Good luck.

I used these guys to get my Nexus one to Australia. They are a mail forwarding company. they don't even charge you a commission over and above normal shipping afaik, they get a special deal with DHL and make money on the difference.
As for the credit card, mine worked when i put my normal address for the street, but put a US state as the state.

Thanks a lot for the thread jack. I've been trying to find one of these for months.
I use my N4 for navigation and to monitor my car's ODBII output. I needed a windshield mounted holder that was secure but easy to install/remove.
There are a bunch on ebay from China but I wanted one faster so I found a US supplier. Very simple design that could be used for most any bar type device; phone, iPod, GPS ...
For $4.65 I cannot complain: Universal phone holder
The seller shipped fast with a USPS tracking number.
Does it stick to the windshield firmly? I never actually bought one of these before so I'm a bit skeptical about how well it'll work since it's from a eBay seller.

Yup, you can't pull it off. You have to use the release to remove it. We've had temperatures from 30-70F and it's still stuck.

It arrived in less than a week, I don't recall the exact time period, sorry.
I switched the mount to my 1994 Blazer and back again without issue. I mention this because old windshields tend to collect "stuff" on them and sometimes things don't stick well. I did not clean the windshield, it just stuck on.

Yeah, mine came pretty fast. Came in a couple of days.
And this thing is pretty awesome for a car holder. It does feel a bit cheap and you probably will have to be bit more careful with it, but basically, stick it and forget is the motto for this thing.

I've been using mine for about a month, multiple car changes, it still works as advertised. The only issue is if you goo over REALLY rough roads it tends to bounce around a bit. I just lower it so that the bottom touches the dash and the issue goes away.
I think I'll buy two more for my other cars so I don't have to keep swapping it out.
