*super noob s3 verizon root help* - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

So this is my second time ever trying to root a deice, i was semi successful with using this guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35418324
Only issue i am having is booting into recovery, i flashed the correct boot unlock, and i see that when the phone starts up. I just cant install su till i can figure out how to get into Odin/twrp. any suggestions, Please note i flashed the Twrp md5 file in the pda section of Odin, was that the correct spot? if anyone can shoot me some advise it would be greatly appeciated. thanks

Well are you making sure you unchecked reboot system and pulling the battery after your recovery flashes so you can manually boot into recovery.

Pull the battery then put it back in. Press and hold Volume up key, home key then power button. Hold them for a second or 2 after you feel the vibration. Should boot right into recovery.

Did you also install superuser as the guide suggested?

Deleted

I see a lot of people having this issue, once you feel the vibrate release the power button but keep holding the volume up and home button. Or you can just install rom manager from the play store and use that to reboot to recovery (there is a option in it).

I did make sure to uncheck the reboot system, pulled the battery and pushed the vol up + power + home. but it just reboots right after that. Btw, thanks for taking time to read my post. I think maybe i flashed the twrp recovery in the wrong section of odin. is it supposed to be on the section that says PDA? or Boot loader?

After some tinkering and what not. I just re flashed the clockwork mod recovery and it worked. i used this on my s1 and it serves it's purpose, although i really wanted to try twrp. i think at this point, i'll just leave it alone till i become a bit more knowledgeable and then i'll take it from there. thanks for your help everyone! I truly appreciate your time.

Try resetting your device. Turn it off then turn it on and keep the volume down button pressed.
The phone wont turn on now
Take out battery, hold both volume buttons down and plug usb cable in

About 47 minutes, until your screen rapidly starts changing colors.
first off wrong section.
not sure if it works with this works with this phone but you can try oden.
you will have to find a oden flashable rom and boot your phone into download mode.
or you could put your phone in a microwave for 10 secs and take it back to the store and tell them it wont work. they will replace it as long as the water meters arent red.
Look at the post for one click installing clockwork mod and do that. Then find the post with the stock nandroid (or eagleblood) download it either put the files on sd via a reader or boot to recovery and use adb push to get the files on the sd card.
Then wipe the data and cache and apply the new rom. That should work. Don't use Odin as that's only for Samsung phones.

Do you have clockwork recovery installed via nvflash? If not, you need to do that, then download the stock rooted backed that is posted in the development thread...Once you do that, download SuperOneClick and unroot your phone, you should not be messing with this stuff if you don't know what your're doing...After that, check out the stickies in the G2x forums and read the rules about what should and should not be posted in the each of the forums.
sorry about the miss posting never posted before and thanks for the help.
still no success i cant get the phone to stay in recovery to flash nvflash im pressing power and down volume but the phone reboots and begins to boot loop again
You don't go into recovery to flash nvflash. You hold down the volume buttons while plugging it into usb with the battery removed. Search for the thread on one click nvflash.

Dear SK4G XDA community, I bricked my girlfriend's phone and I don't know what to do

So you understand the magnitude of the situation, my very own well being is at stake here.
Anyway, so my girlfriend has a sidekick 4G and complains about it occasionally. So I suggested installing a custom rom on her phone (Smooth Maximus) as a remedy. I get the CWM on her phone, wipe, install the rom, and then as it boots for the first time it hangs on the boot screen (attached to this post) for almost 45 minutes before we decide to try again.
I try to get it to boot into CWM to restore, but it doesn't, it simply will go to that boot screen.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! A million thanks in advance!
Don't worry you can easily recovery from that state, most likely you forgot to check your mounts which causes a soft brick

Follow the steps in my thread here or the KD1 version (doesn't matter) and start the process over just be sure to check your mounts before and after flashing the ROM

you can boot into download the way in thread doesnt work well
Just remove your battery
open odin and load the pit into the pit slot and the tar into pda
plug your phone in without the battery
while holding the vol down and trackpad put the battery in.
(this is an awkward hand postition but possible)
you will get into download mode

[Q] Help Phone won't turn on after trying to flash liquidsmooth

Hi,
I rooted my phone today and everything worked fine, I then went to CWrecovery to flash the liquidsmooth rom I downloaded. I selected to reboot device after a successful install but now it won't turn on, no screen, led, etc. if I plug into computer I get a contection noise from my computer but thats it. Can't boot into download mode or recovery... What can I do to fix?
thanks
Did you unlock and flash a custom bootloader?
I think so. I rooted/unlocked bootloader.
Did this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439&nocache=1
For Both Root and Unlocked Bootloader ***RECOMMENDED*** - Download SuperSU + Unlocked Bootloader to your SD Card
Then tried to flash LiquidSmooth from forum.

Did you wipe data factory reset prior to flashing the rom?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
no i didn't
If you forgot to wipe the phone would still attempt to boot. It just might send you into a bootloop
Anthrax unreleased towchwiz
Yeah except I can't get it to boot at all. No response to turning on, pulled battery, waited 30 minutes, then tried to boot again. nothing. not even the LED. now if I leave the battery out and plug the phone in to the computer the LED turns on but that's it. At the computer end I get the sound for plugging in a USB device, however it doesn't do anything else and there were no drivers for the device: QHSUSB_DLOAD.
Is it hard bricked?
Try getting into recovery by holding volume up+home button +power button at the same time. Hold it for a few seconds and it should vibrate and one the Samsung logo comes on you could let go. At this point I would either try re flashing or restore your most recent backup download another rom and try again.

Tried that, as well at the Vol Down+ home+ power. Neither worked, no vibrate or screen boot.
Take your battery out for at least 5 minutes than put on the charger for awhile (couple hours) than try again. If none of this works hero had a wire up on how to fix your soft brick phone that might help. If your bootloader wasn't unlocked I'm not sure what to do to fix that. I hope you get it going. 1. Download the zip from here (bottom of page) and put it somewhere on your SD card.
2. Go to ODIN, click PDA and select the CWM file (here if you don't have it). Make sure you are in PDA, and make sure Bootloader, Phone, and CSC are unchecked. On the left, uncheck auto reboot and F. Reset Time
3. Power off your phone completely and wait about 30 seconds (or pop your battery out and put it back in).
4. While holding volume DOWN on your phone, plug it into your computer. Your phone should be in download mode with a big yellow triangle on the screen. ODIN should recognize your phone and something should show up in one of those ID:COM boxes at the top.
5. Click Start in ODIN.
6. Once ODIN says Pass!, unplug the phone. Hold volume UP, home, and power. the SAMSUNG logo will show up on the screen. Keep holding the buttons. The screen will flicker and SAMSUNG will show up again. Now you can let go of all 3 buttons and CWM will show up.
7. In CWM, go to mounts and storage and mount /system. Go back and then install zip from sd card. Install that zip that you downloaded in step 1. Reboot your phone
8. Go through setup and download Titanium Backup and Root Explorer (or Root Browser if you don't want to pay for it).
9. In Root Explorer/Browser, navigate to /system/etc/. You will have to mount the directory as R/W. I forgot how to do this in Root Browser but in Root Explorer it is at the top of the screen. In Root Browser it might be in settings.
10. Find install-recovery.sh in that directory. Long press it and delete it.
11. Repeat steps 2-5. You can leave auto reboot checked this time, or just manually reboot the phone when ODIN says Pass!
12. In Titanium backup, you can uninstall anything, but be careful.

After Root/Tweaked Rom and Lazarus Kernel Install
Need some assistance
I will try to remember all the steps I took to get the best response.
ODIN - Charge (CWM) Recovery MD5 Installed
UPDATE - SuperSU-v1.25 - Installed in CWM Recovery
Installed Tweaked 3.2 and Charge Lazarus Kernel FP5E Version in CWM Recovery
After root and reboot, Tweaked 3.2 and Lazarus Kernel up and running.
Problems I am trying to resolve:
Super User has some kind of issue with the Bianary, tried running titanium backup to try and fix SU but it didnt open. asked for SU access but the app wouldnt open.
My Files Folder is nowhere to be found
The last issue is after Tweaked was running a verizon update beamed down and after the update downloaded it of course couldnt install on Tweaked Rom. So now there is a update notification hanging around from time to time. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated
1. Open the SuperSU app, it should give you a prompt to update binary.
2. My files has been removed as a part of debloat on Tweaked. You can use any file manger you want-most of us recommend Root Explorer.
3. Check "FP5 - FP8 Update Stopper" in the general section.

Hi there, I am hoping you can help point me in the right direction. I am tried running the instructions above, and after applying the CWM package using Odin, I unplugged the phone and held down the Up Vol, Home, and power. I waited until the second Samsung splash screen flashed before letting go. It loads to CWM, but after it does a wipe cache, etc the phone reboots. It then just loads into the phone OS as though it is new. Can you advise on what I am missing?

For some reason on the first SAMSUNG if you let it boot it will boot into the OS no matter what you do. As soon as it gets past the SAMSUNG screen it overwrites CWM. You have to hold it long enough so that it reboots while it is in the first SAMSUNG screen, so that it can properly boot to CWM, where you root the phone so that you can delete the overwriting script. It is a pretty annoying cycle.

[Q] lost recovery screen

Basically, i was in the process of rooting the device. I have 4.0.4. So, I am able to run Odin, with it showing "success" on the screen. I unchecked auto reboot. So, I unplugged the USB, and when I try to reboot into recovery, I get nothing, just a black screen. The samsung logo screen will come on and then go away. I hold volume down and power button, and then let go of power button. Prior to running Odin, I was able to see the stock recovery screen. But now, I can't get to any recovery screen. But the phone will boot up no problem, and I can get to the download screen no problem as well. I am not sure what to do next. Can anyone help me or does anyone have any ideas what I may be doing wrong? Thank you.

After flashing through odin, and odin says complete, I unplug tablet and try to reboot into recovery, and I get nothing. It almost seems like its going to work but it doesnt. Also, I cant even update the system upgrade.... im guessing since I cant get to recovery screen, neither can the devixe when it tried to update. I'm lost at what to tey next....

So you got two problems.
One is the los of your recovery en two is the root.
I alway's use the cwm recovery.
and for root is use CF-Auto-Root-espresso

Did you check the MD5 hash for your CWM zip? If it is incomplete it doesn't stand much of a chance at working. On Windows I use winmd5free, and on the tablet I use MD5 Hash (Free, No Ads) from the Google Playstore to verify the MD5 of anything I download before flashing it.
Personally I've used the unofficial TeamWin Recovery 2.6.3.0 zip (TWRP) on my P5113 to install CM 10.2 from the Nightly builds.
Also, verify your device is really rooted. I used RootValidator, again from the Google Playstore, to check after rooting my Tab the first time.
Okay I will try checking md5. Thank you so much. Also, I have sgh i497.... how do I know 5110 vs 5100?

Goto Settings, About tablet (scroll down to the bottom of the settings to find it).
Check out focussoft's directions on how he rooted his sgh-i497. Note he refers to an older version of TWRP Recovery in his instructions.
I used this to root my P5113.
It is easy to confuse the volume rocker switch directions. Remember that the side next to the power button is Volume Down!
P5100 is the one with a simcard ( 3g/phone )
P5110 is the wifi only tablet
P5113 is wifi and Infrared
Okay, I have 3g and wifi on here so I have 5100.

Make sure you have root.
Look up mobile Odin. The lite version is free but make sure you grab the correct kernel flash file for your tablet.
Download the latest cwm/philz/twrp of your choice for your device and use mobile Odin app to flash recovery.
I've occasionally had issues getting into recovery on my 3113 and found that powering off, plugging it in until the battery icon shows then holding power and volume up and quickly unplugging the cable seems to help. Continue holding volume up for about 5 seconds after the black screen shows and it goes into recovery 99% of the time.
I should note that I only have that issue if I flash incompatible rom and kernel combos or wipe my system and accidentally turn the tab off in recovery mode.

I should have been clearer. The file I specified is for Mobile Odin.

Here's the thread. I'll edit this post in a second with the right recovery.
If you flashed a bad kernel you wouldn't be able to boot past the Samsung screen at all, except to get into download mode. If you can boot to the rom, it's not the wrong kernel. Likely just the wrong recovery or a corrupted recovery download.
Brb, hold tight.
Oh boy... we have a big problem...
I just rececked your model number from your signature....
YOU DO NOT HAVE A 51XX TABLET. DO NOT FLASH 51XX FILES.
What you have is the AT&T 4g model.
Flashing files for any other model can potentially permanent brick your device as all the hardware is completely different.
Let me get back to you again and see if I can find a real recovery option for you.
Ok, here is a good recovery for you. Try this and get back to me.
