wifi tether (fru) on a rerooted sch-i535 after ota jb... no dice? - General Questions and Answers

well that's about it. I just rerooted using the odin method on this forum after taking the ota last weekend and for some reason I can't get wifi tether for root users to work again. this is a bummer because that was my main reason for rooting... any thoughts?

Try erasing the wifi data and re-enter your wifi pass.
Hope that works.

Unroot needed for upgrade to latest stockrom?

I have the ATT skyrocket rooted and unlocked when I first got the phone in 2011, and is on 4.04. I remember that the post said that I must unroot if I want to upgrade the rom OTA from ATT. Is there any other way to upgrade to the latest stockrom without unroot? I cannot find the post I originally referenced to root/unlock.

^^ what he said. Just get the .tar file from sammobile.com and flash using Odin. You will lose root after this process.
If you want to update using kies (the update is not ota. You have to use kies. ) then s long as kies detects your phone and you have a stock recovery, you should be OK.
However, I believe that you will loose your apps and data with both the methids.. So just use Odin

Thank you very much. I should be able to re-root after the upgrade, correct? Or the lastest 4.1.2 cannot be rooted yet?
I have problem with Odin before, never got anything done with it. Let me try it this time.

Yes you can root the new jb using the same procedure as before.

If your rooted why not just flash a stock rom with the newest update. That will save you the trouble of dealing with Odin.

Trouble? Odin is as simple as place file in pda and click start. I don't see any trouble there....

I meant it more of an hassle. Plug in Odin then uproot do the update then reroot. Just seems so much easier to flash a stock base rom.

Why would you unroot to do the update via Odin. I believe your logic is flawed here. Although I do agree an install would be expeditious via recovery, your argument is flawed.

Just FYI - I was on rooted stock, and just did the update with Kies without unrooting. Now i'm on JB unrooted as a result.

How to get from mf1 back to mb1

My friend got forced in accepting the mf1 upgrade and lost root and recovery. I need a "how to* to flash back to mb1 to reroot and possibly unlock. I tried beans casual with no luck for mf1.

What happened with Casual? Did you try running it a second time? Cuz it works on VRBMF1 although it's a little temperamental for some.

I was able to root my S3 with casual on MF1, it did take me two tries though.
Actually my phone is not being acknowledged any more via usb and have no twrp to flash with anymore. :/

Foxfi and 4.4.2

I am currently still on the stock NC1 update. I was curious if anyone has tried foxfi on stock 4.4.2 before I update, or if I should just update, and root with towelroot to gain tethering capabilities. Opinions please.

I upgraded yesterday and foxfi works just fine. I had held off for a while just because of this, but took the plunge and glad I did.
Are you rooted?
I used towelroot before the 4.4.2 update and I have been pushing back the update what seems like weeks in fear that foxfi would die.

I'm stock now on 4.4.2 and foxfi works fine.
