Please i need help. I want to root my device. I have unlocked the bootloader using HTCDev. i have ICS,s-on and HBoot 2.00.0002. I have tried Superoneclick but it hangs at #5 all the time. Pls, is there any other method? (NB : I dont want the downgrade method) I just want a "My device" compatible type. Thanks.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda app-developers app
Super one click is not the way to go if you want to learn, it's not that difficult to downgrade and s-off of you follow the guides. If you do downgrade then flash the eng hboot(is an eng 2.00.002) of not then just flash the boot.img every time you change roms. Look in the index on the dev thread it will give you all the info you need. Just follow the guides to the letter and you'll be fine

Since you've got your bootloader, unlocked. Flash a custom recovery. Then flash SuperSu or SuperUser via recovery. Don't ask where to get it, search.

Thanks but please how do i flash supersu? Would i need to download the zip file or what. i installed from Playstore and backedup so i have the apk file. Any usefulness with that?

No, Play Store won't help you. You need to follow Skanob's post, and do exactly what he wrote exactly in the way he wrote. If you don't understand how to flash - read more until you do.

He wrote "flash custom recovery", that's what you did.
The next step is "flash SuperSU via recovery".
Google it.
If you won't understand what should be done - it means you shouldn't have root access on your phone. And it's not a derogatory remark, but a safety measure - before the next thread like "I tried to use some root program, now my phone doesn't boot and I don't know what to do". This isn't a support forum.

Hi all
Is it me, cuz im not seeing the 'desire s' listed on the htcdev.com as an option to unlock the boot loader?
All I want to do is root my stock Rom. Not interested in trying any other roms.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
It's not listed but it works. Just select the bottom option "Other Supported Devices" and follow the procedure
Does this procedure get around s-on also ?
Concerns me why they haven't listed it.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
No, your device will be s-on, but the bootloader will be unlocked. It's almost the same.
I have no clue why they haven't listed it either.....
Can you still root with s-on ?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
After you unlock bootloader via htcdev.com, yes you can
Thanks for your help. One last question, how do you root the installed rom?

Look for SuperOneClick in here, it will easily root your rom
Sent from somewhere around the globe using XDA app on my HTC Desire S
I unlocked the bootloader via htcdev.com (operation was OKAY).
SuperOneClick 2.2 hangs at step 7.
I'm guessing that you have a hboot 2.00...
When u used HTC.dev to unlock your HTC desire s you need to Install cwm or 4ext and then you can flash any Rom you like.
After flashing your HTC with the new Rom you need to fastboot the boot.img to your device cause your device is not S-off.
An other option would be downgrading. Do a few searches and you will be fine.
Otherwise post back and I'll help you out.

Hello,
Thank you for your help.
Yes I have the HBOOT 2.00.002 - Android 2.3.5
In the post : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1390496
"dtronics" suggests 2 operations to do for s-offing for the Desire S :
1 - unlocking the bootloader (htcdev.com)
2 - using SuperOneClick 2.2
The second treatment hangs at 7th step.
Without downgrading the hboot (2.00.002):
If you have a link to a simple and complete documentation to doing s-OFF.
Thank you
Dos bootloader unlock deletes all personal apps, contacts, files or not?
Superoneclick 2.3.3 roots desire s?
Thx for help

I unlock bootloader and root, install recovery, then it deletes all contacts and file in internal storage, not delete file in sd card

What's better to do if I want to flash roms, htcdev unlock or S-OFF? I mean, do I have to do both, or just one, and what's better?
And what should I use, EXT4 recovery or ClockworkMod Recovery? Tnx
I would choose downgrading if necessary and S-OFF. The main disadvantages of the htcdev method are the loose of warranty and the need to flash manually the boot image every time you change the rom.
I personally like 4ext but CWM is also very good.
Next time you need some info gry to search the forum, this things were allready discussed.
As a mather of fact i don't think there's a thing left undiscussed in here.

Great .pdf file.... First thing it says is "VERY IMPORTANT: Your device MUST already be rooted before you can continue with any of these instructions and/or procedures."
I guess there isnt a root for 1.94 according to that forum post.
Guess im SOL!
Or am I? lol
Unlock the bootloader on htc dev then push a recovery. Then install root via recovery. Done

How did you root it the first time, AAHK or HTCDEV? If you used AAHK you might still be S-OFF; just flash a recovery and flash a rooted ROM. If you used HTCDEV I advise that you use AAHK this time around. Google "attn1 aahk" to find it. You will need to downgrade; it's in the Kit.

I've seen a lot of your other posts and if you can confirm you are unlocked and S-Off then I would recommend checking that you still have a custom recovery. If you do, then mount the SD card and move a Rom over (with GAPPS if you decide to use an AOSP Rom.) Flash the Rom and Flash GAPPS if needed. Follow the directions in the Rom of your choice if they differ from that.
Or
You could Run a RUU and start completely over. Don't forget to flash a custom recovery afterwards in bootloader mode and flash a root program (I recommend SuperSU) in recovery prior to booting the system.:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2593037
Just make sure you have an unlocked bootloader and S-Off prior to following any of these recommendations.

Please learn how to post properly to this forum. OP has appeared both here and in my PM, asking for help with 2 different issues and not supplying nearly enough info.
When posting a question, you need to state clearly:
- What you were trying to do (install a ROM, etc.) including what exact steps got you to the place you are at
- whether your phone is stock or modded (bootloader unlocked, rooted, S-on or S-off, etc.)
- what ROM you are on
- the info listed in the first 5 lines of hboot.
Asking for help with one vague sentence doesn't cut it. If you want help, we need details. Don't be lazy and just type vague one-sentence posts, unless you want the same in return.
Also, the question in the OP probably would have been easily answered by simply reading the Frequently Asked Questions sticky at the top of this forum section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2136172

No worries. Just take a deep breath and slow down before you post, and if possible sit at a computer where you can type properly. Asking for help with one sentence posts, and not providing enough details isn't going to help anyone. You will inevitably just have to type later anyway when we start asking for the details (plus more back and forth, and more waiting for a response).
I'm not personally much of an AOSP user, so I can't specifically help. But I know timmaa (and others) are more versed in AOSP.
Exactly what error are you getting when attempting to install the ROMs? Are you using the official of modified TWRP?

You have to use the modded.

Well I have 4ext recovery well pretty much everything I can flash custom just would like s-off so where would I find these ruu because HTC dev don't have them apart from Android 4.0 which is hboot 2. Can you check CID? That will help us to choose right RUU for your phone.
When you do misc_version successfully you have to reboot in bootloader and start RUU.RUU install from bootloader. Then it will check is your misc_version is ok.
