[Q] Unbootable device - HTC Sensation

Hi guys, new here (don't judge! xD)
So I have had a HTC Sensation for almost a good year. Halfway through this year I decided to try get off stock sense and see what advantages rooting does so I unlocked the bootdevice following the instructions on HTC's website and managed to installed Cyanogenmod hassle free. Recently however, I have looked into getting Android Revolution HD and thought I would switch to see what it is like. This is where I started getting problems, I think it first started with me using Clockworkmod Recovery instead of 4EXT to install and secondly I forgot to use Smart Recovery in 4EXT.
Basically, I have tried formatting and wiping, using the superwipe script, trying to recover using my nandroid backup of CMod, trying to install a stock rom, tried to install the RUU exe file ("RUU_PYRAMID_ICS_etc...") but every time it tells me the ROM has successfully installed, I reboot and it gets stuck at the White Screen of Death with the green HTC logo (the one just before the "quietly brilliant" slogan (or the blue CMod man)). So at the moment I don't have a working phone

I have tried to install "PG58IMG.zip" many times but have failed every time. It just says "Parsing" the zip file but doesn't actually install. I have tried USB 2.0 drivers, reinstalling the HTC drivers, trying to flash through CMD but it just won't work! Would you guys be ever so kind to help me out! I have tried looking at every related thread under HTC Sensation

First delete your imei and serial number foryou own safety
If you have still 4ext recovery installed enable smartflash and then immediately restore your nandroid backup
Before this format all partitions except sdcard from 4ext
If that fails flash the boot.img of your current rom manually
If you don't know how go in general section and search the thread for flashing roms with S-ON.do only extra 1 step

Thank you!! I managed to get the stock HTC Rom running again by flashing a kernel using the HTC Sensation tool (I copied the boot.img out of the zip file) and ran the "Flash your kernel here". If I copied a the boot.img and flashed it from say "Android_Revolution_HD-Sensation_6.8.0_XE.zip\kernels\sebastian\" Do you think that may solve my problem?

some ideas you can try
You forgot to downgrade misc_version before restoring to stock.
Now, you have one of 2 options:
1) If your HBOOT is modified - you can fastboot flash recovery, connect by ADB, execute misc_version script in recovery (that step saves you ROM installation) to downgrade main version, and then execute RUU again.
2) If your HBOOT is stock and you can't do anything - you'll have to unlock it the HTC way, after unlock - execute all the above (including relocking the bootloader after main version is downgraded).

Since your hboot already using 2+, you can do following steps:
1. unlock your bootloader using htc dev
2. after unlocked, install recovery
3. go to recovery you've previous installed then connect usb and change misc version via adb
4. relock again the bootloader
5. then you can install the RUU
Hope this help.

It doesn't. At least in my case.
I had to add my cid to make it loadable but that's about it:
Loading .. [PG88IMG.zip]
Checking .. [PG88IMG.zip]
Then it returns to Fastboot menu again with nothing changed!

Hi Ahmed,
What is the version of your hboot? is it already 2.00+? if it is you can just unlock via htc dev to flash the recovery. No need to flash the firmware

IMO is that you dont need to flash the firmware, since you already said that you've already unlock the bootloader. I did flash the firmware because i want to unlock my bootloader.
I download this recovery image www.4ext.net/ddl/saga/recovery.zip, I flash this image in fastboot and the recovery installed successfully, maybe you can try it also.
after that you can install tacoroot for temporary root and misc version your device image version, then you can install ruu afterward.

My problem is complex. Hboot is 0.98.0002 so i can't use HTCDev to unlock. At the same time adb is not working so i can't s-off. RUUs of 2.x or 1.x do not work either as latest image was 3.x .
I think i need to upgrade Hboot (somehow) to enable HTCdev Unlock then downgrade and s-off. That may require RUU > 3.x ... and it must be RUU not OTA or update package.
My case was the same as yours thats why i flash the firmware so i can unlock my bootloader. But you are not able to flash from chinese ota i gave you earlier?

[Q] I need help please, completly lost....

Hi,
i've got a htc desire S and surprise, surprise i've run into another problem (most probably caused by me right now phone is in a state of "zombification" (freezes at boot screen, boots to hboot screen but loops back to hboot screen when choosing recovery or factory wipe)
I was running edymion v3.5 base release, with pdroid. but i noticed apps kept crashing/ force closing (facebook, default mail, youtube etc) bypassed most of these by reinstalling them or finding alternatives. few weeks later loads of the app started crashing, especially the camera (cashing limited to default and background apps). I decided that a reinstallation of endymion MIGHT fix this so i factory wiped using clockworkmod recovery and reflashed endymion + pdroid.
Alas, it froze on the HTC boot screen. this had happened before when i tried rooting and all..... so i did what i did before...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1728513
which failed cause the update kept stopping midway, so i pulled battery, and repeated a few times, tried using a RUU and a OTA
RUU_Saga_HTC_Europe_1.47.401.4_Radio_20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03_M_release_199410_signed
and
OTA_Saga_S_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.8-2.10.401.5_release_225212pe4gpljm46wwfk8i
these failed as well, either stopped halfway or completed then freeze on HTC boot screen.
Phone is s-off from revolutionary, no clockworkmod now (thanks to multiple wipes) and i dont think it is rooted anymore....
here is data that may help

is your device still recognized by adb? if YES then this should enable you flash a recovery through fastboot.
exert from 4ext touch thread which is what I'd recommend that you use.
Code:
There's a [URL="http://www.4ext.net/ddl/saga/recovery.zip"]direct download[/URL] for a version you can flash via fastboot.
Download this file
Unzip it
check md5sum of the included image file
attach device through USB to PC
flash through fastboot
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
I'd then suggest a full wipe and attempt to include a custom ROM

Thanks for replying, i was begining to lose hope
unfortunately it does not register with adb since it won't switch on. But it DOES register with fastboot, so i'm trying it right not. So far it has stopped moving at
c:\Users\ME\Desktop\adroid>fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
sending 'recovery' (6038 KB)...
OKAY [ 1.021s]
writing 'recovery'...
But i'll give it some time before trying again, will report back soon
update:
Soo, waited a while, then tried flashing again. stopped at the exact same spot (writing 'recovery')
If you manage to flash a recovery, search for guide to change your misc version. Then search for a guide to change your bootloader. There is one in my signature. Finally download a T-Mobile RUU since your phone is branded. Do not flash any other versions

lol yea, i've pretty much given up. trying to find some one who can fix it, buti guess i'll have to wait to get a new phone
In which case, you surely have nothing to loose sending the dead device in for warranty fix, best leave the battery out.

[Q] Boot loop, can boot to twrp/fastboot, but cant flash any roms.

Okay so heres the deal. Bought a new evita from a dealer. Dont remember/have what the stock software was, but it was booting with an att rom and all the bloatware. I downloaded the all in one eztoolkit and unlocked the bootloader successfully. Heres my problem, I can get into fastboot and twrp, but all of my flashes fail regardless of what rom I flash. I tried cm 10.2, 10.4, and 11 beta and they all failed. Then I tried to revert using both att ruus I could find, including the 2.20 and 3.18 updates directly from att. Both of them reboot to the ruu loader and appear to be working, but fail citing the incorrect software version. I assume its because I manually changed the recovery and flashed boot.img files from each of the roms I tried to flash, but I am not certain. Heres is the getvar information:

Can this be solved by flashing the correct rom, and if so can you direct me to it? Otherwise, how can I fix this?
Thank you.
edit: flashed cm 10.0.0 and related gapps after manually flashing the boot.img and I got it to boot.
Going to try to s-off so I can be done with all this garbage.
edit: Got it booting, got s-off. Still on 10.0.0 with root and s-off. Not sure where to go from here unless anyone can give me further direction. I'd prefer to have the latest cyanogen etc, but I am ok with this if I cant go any further.
Thanks all !
Where are you downloading your ROMs? You mentioned earlier that you flashed cm10.4 but there is no such ROM for this device. You need to be careful about where you get your ROMs, flashing a ROM that isn't intended for this device can easily result in a brick.
Your ROM flashes were failing because your firmware is too old, it does state pretty clearly in the install instructions on the cm threads that you need to update your firmware via the 3.18 RUU. So you need to download the 3.18 RUU and run that which will update your firmware. Here's a very useful thread which details how to run an RUU.
After you've done that you'll need to flash TWRP again. If you want to flash the latest cm, which is cm11, you need to install the modified version of TWRP 2.6.3.0 recovery which can be found in our Original Android Development section. Download the modified version of TWRP 2.6.3.0 from here. Put the file in your fastboot folder. Connect phone in fastboot mode, open command prompt from within fastboot folder, issue the following commands:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery "filename.img"
(the exact filename, minus the talking marks)
Code:
fastboot erase cache
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Now you can enter TWRP and flash your ROM + gapps. Because you're new here I'd suggest you click the Everything Evita link in my signature and bookmark it, it contains links to basically everything for our phone. You should also click the other links in my signature and read those threads, you'll find them very helpful. Here's a few important links for you too:

Make sure you only ever download ROMs from the development sections I've linked there, many people make the mistake of wandering into the HTC One X forum and flashing those ROMs, many of those people bricked their phone. That might seem confusing but you don't have the HTC One X (Endeavoru), you have the HTC One XL / at&t One X (Evita). If you have any further questions just ask either here or in my q&a thread (link in my signature).

[Q] Rogers HTC One X help with customer recovery issue...

Pretty sure I effed up... Before reading further please know I am a very novice Android user, but am great at following directions.
In an attempt to install a custom ROM on my phone I'm having some serious issues getting it to work. I was able to unlock the bootloader on my device quite easily but after attempting to install TWRP the device boots to a black screen when trying to load the recovery. I know the phone is on because I have to press and hold power for a while before I can get back into the actual system. I figured I'd try installing CWM but it does the same thing. I installed the ROM Manager app as suggested by another site but it really is of no help to me without my phone being rooted, which it is not... yet. The app does show that both TWRP and CWM are installed but gets an error flashing CWM and if i try to set it to use the outdated version of CWM or TWRP it says that it's configured to use the existing recovery installation and makes no difference trying to load the recovery.
Phone info: (Let me know if you need anything not listed.)
Android Version: 4.1.1
HTC Sense: 4+
Software#: 3.17.631.3
HTC SDK API leve: 4.63
Build#: 3.17.631.3
Kernel version: 3.4.0-g240d4d5
I'm at a loss for what to do to either get a working custom recovery or restore the factory one to working condition, which I can't seem to find online anywhere.
Edit: Grammar.
Edit2: Update - I was able to get TWRP to run and then attempted to install CyanogenMod, when it installs it says MD5 file not found but says successfully installed. After rebooting to system it just gets stuck in an endless reboot cycle. Ideas / Suggestions?

I've ensured to use Evita for all the guides. I double triple and quadruple checked everything before performing any steps. Posting in the wrong thread doesn't change the situation. Is there a way to move this to the correct thread?
Edit: Also, according to HTC the Evita was a code name used for both the One XL and One X simultaneously. One XL applied specifically to releases in Hong Kong, Australia, Germany, Singapore, and United Kingdom. One X applied to Canada (where I am) and USA.

Boot into fastboot and run the command getvar and post the results. Be sure to block out your imei and serial before posting. This may help XDA members diagnose the problem.

Boot into fastboot and run the command getvar and post the results. Be sure to block out your imei and serial before posting. This may help XDA members diagnose the problem.

Yes I was doing a full wipe before flashing, but not after. Situation has changed a bit though... I was working with someone via reddit (Full thread here: reddit.com/r/root/comments/3a4cc2/htc_one_x_root_for_beginner/ ) Long story short: Finally got CyanogenMod installed but let it sit over an hour and just stuck on spinning CM logo. Forced shutdown, booted into TWRP and wouldn't recognize SD or mount (eMMC). Read this can be due to not doing a factory reset, tried to do the factory reset but same deal. Tried to ruin an RUU that matched my info but it failed and with a locked bootloader I cant even get into TWRP, I need to unlock the bootloader and reinstall TWRP after failing an RUU.

When I try to RUU I start by relocking the bootloader with "fastboot oem lock" and then I run "fastboot erase cache" then "fastboot oem rebootRUU" then "fastboot flash zip RUU.zip" when it's on the black screen with silver HTC logo. I get this:
c:\Android>fastboot flash zip RUU.zip
sending 'zip' (650005 KB)...
OKAY [ 25.324s]
writing 'zip'...

FAILED (remote: 12 signature verify fail)

If I try to boot after this it boots to the white HTC quietly brilliant screen.
I see you have s-on and you do not have super CID.
With s-on, I think you have to flash the boot.img file for the phone to boot.
Easiest way to solve the problem may be to get s-off and supercid.

Read the Tuto word by word
1) first thing is to download twrp27-dlxu.imp
Requirement:
for x920e: To install this ROM on x920e you have to use my edited Kairi's TWRP 2.7.0.X recovery (DLXU recovery link).
link in tuto,
so what you do, boot in fastboot mod, and fastboot flash recovery recovry.img and reboot to fastboot mod
Tuto said
2) S-OFF users just flash ROM and you are OK.
S-ON users have to flash boot.img manually via fastboot after flashing ROM. (like your htc in S-On Mode)
The boot.img is inside a zip flash, extracte it and flash your htc wih this boot, and reboot to recovery mode TWRP27 this time
Tuto said
Procedure for S-ON users:
1. Go into recovery and do a backup
2. Follow this guide on flashing boot.img from ROM.zip :LINK or this video guide :Video LINK
3. After that go into recovery, flash ROM.zip from there, reboot and wait for ROM to boot
So The procedure is to flash a rom with TWRP27
you need to reboot to recovery mode, TWRP27, Select Advanced button,--> ADB Slideload
P.S, you need to use HTC Butterfly Toolkit, (Adb & Fastboot tools) link: i dont have a permission to post a link a this time, but search with google for ButterflyToolkitSetupV1.0.1.msi or later
When you select adb slideload in the Recovery, you must select in the PC with HTC Butterfly Toolkit, option 12 ) Slideload zip file "the rom must be in slideload directory of Htc B. Toolkit, rename it to zom.zip for simplify, with this tools, and this methode, you can't faill aftr a slideload operation the install lunched automaticly by the recovery programe, and just folow the instruction, sorry for my english, if you faill, let me know and i post you the install tuto with picture step by step
the slideload can take some times, be patient if the operation take a while, but after the and that's work
