[ROM][AOSP][JB][4.2.1][JD's ROM][Simple,Stable, and Bugfree - Nexus 7 Android Development

This ROM is a redistribution of the Android Open Source Project and Google software code that I have lightly modified to make as a daily driver for myself that I'm sharing with the community. This project doesn't have and won't focus on adding a ton of features and mods but instead focus on stability, and reliability so yes basically this is a stock like rom but not just stock my only efforts will be to make it run better, and be more polished, and complete. If you are looking for something more modified I'd suggest trying CyanogenMod or AOKP.
GOOGLE APPS ARE INCLUDED

If you have an error or something pops up I ask that before you post about it please make sure that you are running the ROM as provided. I cannot troubleshoot anything that is related to using other kernels, mods, or themes.
This ROM is basically like a stock rom of jelly bean so there is not a need for screen shots ........
Always remember that XDA started out as a great place and will remain a great place as long as we are great to each other anything used in this ROM is available upon request and feel free to use this as a base rom for any other project my ROM is un-branded just give me some mention .......
WANT TO CUSTOMIZE THIS ROM READ THIS:
Like the ROM and want to add or remove anything or customize for yourself use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246 DSIXDA's Kitchen. Its a great kitchen for customizing prebuilt ROMs

I will download this tonight and give feedback.

Small update adds recents clear all button fixes launcher wallpapers and cleaned out apps that can be found in play store

I might give this rom a try as overall I like 4.2 and kinda feel like the roms full of extra features are just too bulky for my tastes but feel like 4.2 could be better from a stability and performance standpoint. Been looking for a simple rom like this that just addresses the core problems with 4.2. It'll probably be Friday or later though as that's when my vacation starts.

[Q] What about MIUI?

Soo.. I know the title isn't very specific.. but I would like to throw a question in here and get some responses..
So.. WHAT excatly is MIUI compared to other ROMs?
To me, MIUI is "just" plain (AOSP?) Android with every single "GO"-App available. GO Launcher, GO SMS.. and so on.
So.. what does MIUI exactly have, that e.g. CM with every app changed to some GO-App doesn't have?
MIUI is skinned to kinda "copy" Iphone-style..sure.. but is that really all?
Benchmarks show there are some differences..
So I wonder what's left of MIUI if you install a MIUI based ROM and change any GO-App to another one?
________
'Cause most ppl say they love MIUI for how it looks like. But honestly.. I could also use stock Android with e.g. Motoblur and change the launcher and so on.. so why going through the hassle to root and install a completely new ROM?
Ty everyone
And yes, I used the search, but didn't find anything relevant.. maybe because "MIUI" & "GO" are a liiiiittle bit vague
We need to know the history. MIUI just want to be like IOS, but in the Android enviroment. AOSP is just a plain OS, CM was loaded witb tons of tweaks but the UI not that eyecandy. HTC? Good but too dark to be like IOS and bloated. So MIUI with the UI mimic IOS with slight modification came. For me it is another CM with the stress more on UI.
Sent from my E15i using XDA App.
Ps sorry for bad English
Wasn't the first MIUI ROM was found accidently? IIRC, the dev passed away and his work was found and released. Maybe I'm thinking of something else?

A renaissance artist perhaps? MIUI is developed by a Chinese team and someone came across it and started translating it.
There's plenty of info and screenshots etc. over at http://www.miui-dev.com which is the site run by the translating team.
Essentially it does largely look to be making Android more iOS-like. It's based on FroYo AOSP (Gingerbread soon) but with a _lot_ of alterations. It shares a little bit of code with CM as far as the addins.
In my opinion MIUI is the first Android Distro because it proposes a completely different way of Android where other ROMs are just forks.
Miui is the simple face of ios with the power of android.
sent from my MIUI HTC HD2
MIUI has the most powerful and easiest theme engine..I really wish it was open source so others could use the theme engine..Its really that nice and simple to use..such a shame..
MIUI is so much better then stock android:
here's a list of apps that avalible only on miui:
Monitor (let you block apps and see how much data you have used)
Theme manager (no more zip's, really easy to theme stuff)
Better mms app
file mamanger
Miui gallery and camera
miui music
special lockscreen - much better the stock
folders - better the stock
quick settings on the notification bar
better phone app
easier to use setting's
miui wheater (avalible for all now)
some widgets like conatcs and etc...
if you chineese you can use the update app which auto update your phone to the latest version.
battery monitor
and much more that I might forgot
I'll go ahead and toss my two cents in...
Simple version-- I rooted my phone about 6 weeks ago, I flashed several roms in the first two days. (Cyanogen, Mikfroyo, Myns) Then I flashed MIUI. That was the last time I flashed a rom...
(If you want to know more, PM me and I'll give you the L O N G version of why MIUI is the best in my opinion)
Not a single one of the "GO" apps I've heard of including the two your mentioned are a part of MIUI. The post above me outlines a lot of the features but there is also so much more. I just discovered a feature the other day I never realized was there.
Try it, if you don't like it, NANDROID!! Make sure to grab yourself a few themes off of the MIUI forum. Again, I've installed one theme since I flashed MIUI ignoring the other 100 simply because what I have, Elite HD by bustadroid, is the best damn theme (period)
I just started to use Miui Camera for my Milestone today. Awesome fast!
Maybe can someone compile a list of Miui's apps and post links here?

What is the Differences

If I may ask this with out being bashed I know what AOSP is but what exactly is MIUI? What are the differences between AOSP and MIUI? I love the look of some of the themes I have seen for MIUI. So if anyone has the time and/or has used them both and can give me some info on them I would appreciate it. If you guys can list the pro's and con's about them, as well as your favorite thing about them. Thank you in advance for your input and information

MIUI: MIUI is developed by Xiaomi Tech, is an aftermarket firmware for android phones based on Android Open Source Project (AOSP). It features a very modified UI that (similar to iOS) does not have an app drawer, instead all of your apps are just on the home screens. It can easily be compared to TouchWiz and iOS in some ways. The rom has additional functionality that can not be found in many roms such as sense and some AOSP roms; These include toggles in the notification bar, a new music app, a new gallery, new camera, and a "Smart Dialer" similar to Sense's. No phones come stock with MIUI accept for the Xiaomi MI-One.
AOSP: Stock, pure android. No overlays like Sense, TouchWiz, MotoBlur, etc. There are many phones that come stock with AOSP, and the most popular is the nexus line. Many (including myself) prefer AOSP because it is generally faster and simpler, the way Google intended.
My favorite part of MIUI is how it is almost like inverted android. As we all know, android 4.0's colors are black and blue, but Miui 4 has white and orange, which can be kind of refreshing.
My favorite part of AOSP is how fluid and nice it looks and feels.
Pros (AOSP):
- Fast
- Light
- Need I say more?
Cons (AOSP):
- No Gapps stock (flash them second)
- Sometimes can be missing functionality or customization
- Thats all I can think of
Pros (MIUI):
- New UI (pro for some people)
- Lots of customization and functionality
- Much more (for some)
Cons (MIUI):
- Special gapps (and no gapps stock)
- Can be CHINESE!!!
- Generally slower than AOSP
- Sense based and AOSP based versions

I'm currently loving Sense 4.0, but if you're interested in messing with roms you really should give MIUI a try. As long as you do a nandroid backup first, there's really nothing you can lose other than a little time.
As I said, I'm digging Sense for now, but on my g2x I was almost always using MIUI. Some people think its too much like iOS, but you can always install a different launcher. It has more customization options than any other type of rom that I know of. I would love to be able to use their statusbar toggles with other roms.

Custom ROMs for Daily use

USING A CUSTOM ROM FOR DAILY USE
Hey guys have been bitten by the Jelly Bug and decided I needed JellyBean on my Note NOW!! as a normal Android user  tried out a few ROMs out there. Finally settled on Paranoid Android JB:CM 10 Hybrid http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1871713 Its abosolutely super Hats of to Chef Utacka the daily update keeps me up to date with the developments. He has without a doubt solved the memory leak bug with JB roms. It is really smooth and the thought of going back to a TW based ROM makes me want to throw up a little
The only draw back of flashing a custom JB: CM 10 ROM on the note is that one can get a bit lost if using the note for business as all the Sammy TW Based apps dont work and some of the ones mentioned in the Themes and Apps forum are not refined, so decided to to list out a few which I personally bridge the gap on my note and help flashing the daily updates a breeze:
1) App Manager http://ow.ly/efNxe the best app to keep your apps all backed up. after a clean flash the only app you need to download is this one and it allows you to restore all the apps back. Or just download it and copy it to the SD Card so that you can install it directly after flashing the new update an re - install all the apps you need.
2) ThinkFree Office Mobile http://ow.ly/efOQn One of the best purchases I made for Rs 465/- it entirely replaces Polaris office, and is much smoother too.
3) Jotter http://ow.ly/efQ84 Does a super job replacing SNote and worth the Rs. 211/- asking price
4) Photo Editor Easy Photo Editor http://ow.ly/efQGo or SketchTalk - Drawing & Editinghttp://ow.ly/efQPD work really well replacing the sammy photo editor. I have just found Sketch talk and first few hours testing it out produced quite impressive results
5) G Tasks: To Do List http://ow.ly/efRqy syncs with Google calendar and provide the integration which is somewhat lacking in the Sammy Organizer.
6) SMS Backup & Restore http://ow.ly/efRMp for some of us who keep valuable information in our messaging app, please remember to back up all sms before clean flashing updates.
Enuf Said... our NOte is close enuf to the original but somewhat better because we dont have to wait for the high and mighty Sammy to give us the latest software
UPDATE:
App Manager failed me Twice. So shifted back to the Time tested Titanium Backup http://ow.ly/eDHzI
To find more apps to improve the functionality of our Note and make the functionality similar to stock i came across this lovely port of the samsung app store for CM 10 / CM10 based ROMs by XDA Member Amandeep Parmar http://ow.ly/eDHLD
This app store gives many App options which are not available on Google's Play store like Sketch! http://ow.ly/eDHY2 by XDA member Wabz and
Photo Desk : which allows doodling and annotating screen shots and photos, although this is a two step process unlike the single step process on the stock ROMs it is pretty easy to use and the apps do exactly what they need to.
The only thing missing was a good replacement for S - Memo which is required while taking on call memos, for now Papyrus http://ow.ly/eDIbn will have to do.
Still sticking to the Lovely work by Utacka and Paranoid Android team as my Daily Driver.. Super stuff
UPDATE: 10th Nov
Utacka's PA rom for NOte now has Stylus Gestures http://ow.ly/fb1I2 Configured them on my note as under:
Left Swipe => Emulate Back Key
Right Swipe => Recent Applications
Up Swipe => Emulate Menu Key
Down Swipe => Invoke Search
Long Press => Go TO Home
Double Tap => Jotter
Works super
I personally Love the CM 10 PA experience and just cannot bring myself to even try TW based ROMs anymore. But i was pleasantly surprised with http://ow.ly/fb1Qm The latest Stock XXLS7 Samsung JellyBean ROM by eybee1970.. I did not like that the dev says "Kernel is PROBABLY brick free. Flashed it anyway... It is smooth and stable !!
Please dont forget to Thank the Devs
Thanks
Thanks Boss really helped... wanted to flash a custom rom which was vanilla Google now thanks to this post i can do it with fraction of the time required for research :good:

I use Titanium Backup too....On GB first,on ICS and now on JB.
I take pro version on playstore but i not use pack restore on JB.
This app works fine everytime......
Thanks for the dev!

[MOD] SuperXE Spoiler -- some not-so-pure additions to SuperXE ROM

SuperXE Spoiler
This is just a flashable zip I originally created for myself to contain all I changed in my installation of SuperXE, thus "spoiling" the pureness of the ROM. Maybe someone else could like it, too, so I decided to add some explanations, disclaimers and credits and upload it here.
Every modification can be selected separately.
Contents
XE Volume
This raises the sound volume of your device, for headphones to the level of the original Sensation XE, for the internal speaker to the maximum possible. The mod is described here.
No battery indicator
This removes the stock battery indicator from the status bar, freeing up some horizontal space. Useful for example together with widgetsoid's battery notification icon. The mod is described here.
Apex Launcher as default
This replaces the stock launcher with Apex Launcher. Useful to save space if you don't intend to use the stock launcher anyways. The Apex Launcher included in the zip is just an unmodified version of the apk from the market. If you like Apex Launcher, please consider supporting it by buying the pro version!
Widgetsoid
This installs Widgetsoid as a system app. Widgetsoid needs to be installed as a system app for some features like one-touch GPS toggle. Included in the zip is just an unmodified version of the apk from the market. If you like Widgetsoid, please consider supporting it by buying the donate version!
Cyanogenmod's cLock widget
This installs the (imho VERY neat) cLock widget (launcher and lockscreen) from Cyanogenmod. I recommend to install Apex Launcher and create an "Activity" shortcut to cLock preferences in order to configure it. But you can also launch cLock's preferences from the commandline: am start com.cyanogenmod.lockclock/.preference.Preferences
Credits
cile381 for the superb SuperXE rom
Android Does for Apex Launcher, a great enhancement of AOSP launcher
jaumard for Widgetsoid, best custom widget app I'm aware of
Cyanogenmod for their new cLock widget that's so neat and useful
mudhi for figuring out how to tweak maximum volumes on the Sensation
amarullz for the powerfull AROMA installer
Download
only for SuperXE 4.2.2 builds: SuperXE-spoiler_4.2.2-1.zip
only for SuperXE 4.2.2 Build 2: SuperXE-spoiler_4.2.2-build2-1.zip (removed)

Changelog
4.2.2-1: should now install and work on any SuperXE 4.2.2 build
4.2.2-build2-1: Initial release, only for 4.2.2 build 2
Remarks
This uses a custom built (linaro) AROMA that links dynamically, making the zip smaller. It expects recovery to have /sbin/linker and the glibc shared object. If there are any problems, please report.
If there are any issues with redistributing unmodified apks, please let me know, so I can remove them from the archive.

Thanks very much for your feedback
I'm not so sure about this request. As I wrote, this just started as a "convenience zip" for myself. I really want to use AOSP, so I didn't think about this kind of stuff, just some minor tweaks and enhancements for me.
That said: Maybe I'll have a look to see how deep theme chooser needs to "dig" into the system. If it's just a system app (and maybe some minor tweaks), I could add it as an option, but I doubt that. And I don't want to include deep complicated mods here, that would make it hard to maintain, so my feeling about this tends to: If you want themes, try albinoman's CM10.1 build

Makes sense, i completely understand..
But with that said, His ROM is too bloated for my taste. Yes, i can always download T-Backup and uninstall unneeded apps, but thats just a process i dont like doing -- Takes too much time. So, with that said (lol) I love TimV's ROM aka Codename Lungo.. He strips Albino's and Cile's ROM but i really want to flash an AOSP ROM. Dont like AOSP ROMS because i love my theme's haha.. Thats the only thing stopping me from flashing AOSP.
So once i saw this thread, i was like, "Hmm. this could be interesting, i could flash TimV's stripped AOSP ROM and then flash this bad boy" (i really like what you've done) then i saw there wasnt theme support for it and was like :crying:
haha, so this is why i asked what i asked. But like i said, i completely understand where you're coming from, nonetheless great job! Im happy that more and more people are developing/making things for the Sensation :victory:

[ROM][AOSP][4.3.2.1.000.000] OpenMaster Nightlies [grouper]

I will be compiling AOSP's master branch (almost) nightly. This branch is, at times, very unstable and can have many issues. Most issues cannot be fixed without upstream changes.
I guarantee no stability or the fact that your device will work. It's your choice to use this. Don't blame me for something that goes wrong (even though nothing probably will).
You will need to flash Gapps in order to use the Play Store. You can get Gapps from http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip
Flashing for the first time:
1. Reboot into recovery.
1a. Backup current ROM
2. Wipe data.
3. Flash ROM
4. Flash Gaps
5. Reboot
6. Enjoy

I may make another ROM at a later time that is a tweaked master branch, but for now, this is staying pure AOSP. I haven't seen any frequently maintained master branch builds, and I think that the n7 community needs that. It's nice to have an up-to-date build of what Google is working on.
And remember, if there's a super awesome feature you think it oughta have, maybe AOSP will merge your contribution!

Features I was thinking of were mostly addons & some performance some ui tweaks which I don't think an aosp purist would likely agree on:
Cpu/ I/O memory management
Battery bar (miui, not a big break away from stock but not important)
Quick Settings toggles: extra buttons
Nav bar button editing
Kill app on long press of back button
Recent apps clear all & memory display
Battery statusbar options (I've always used %)
Statusbar clock settings (right/centre)
Some of those are purely subjective but things like kill app on long press, QS and navigation button settings should be built into the aosp source IMO. I get your philosophy behind this and I don't mind the missing features but I don't think I can keep pure aosp for very long after being spoiled with so many feature rich roms over the last few years
There are many people who would appreciate this though so I hope it gets the respect it deserves. Thank you!

Essentially, yes. As I am sure you probably understand, each git repo can have multiple branches and Google creates a branch after each stable release. However, they also have a working branch that they push to frequently (many times per day) with changes called "master" and this is a nightly build of that branch. So, this is like the stock ROM, except it is on their working branch, not their 4.2.2 branch. In the build files, this is referred to as "OpenMaster", and Android version 4.2.2.2.2.2.2.2.2.2.
You'll notice some features that aren't in the stock ROM and you'll notice some (but not all) of the features reported to be in the 4.3 ROMs.
This branch tends to be slightly less stable, but it also is very interesting to use. I use it as my daily driver and have for awhile. There are some bugs, but they tend to get squashed within a few days.
If you want to see a changelog, check AOSP review.
I have two more questions:
- How can I get notifications about updates?
- How can I build the Master branch for my Galaxy Nexus?
Oh and btw. good rom! It is really interesting to test those new features and have some bugs.

Sorry, but at this time, you'll need to check the downloads page daily (probably around 10PM GMT-5 I'll have done it if I will) to see if I've posted a new build for the day. Maybe I will later make an app and put it in the Play Store and it will notify you when a new build is posted.

You'll need to sync AOSP and it includes the source for GNex. You'll need to download the proprietary files separately and unzip them. If you have questions, PM me. Also, http://source.android.com/source/building.html may be of some help.

I have respect for the stock aosp. If I could pick only one feature though it would be one in forgot to mention "statusbar brightness slider" I use it so much I forget it's there.

I have respect for the stock aosp. If I could pick only one feature though it would be one in forgot to mention "statusbar brightness slider" I use it so much I forget it's there.

Check out this handy tool. I'm usually anti widget but this lil tool is amazing for setting a brightness slider anywhere on the screen.
I've used it since way back before the status bar mod was available and I still use it pretty often if the ROM doesn't have it included.
Can be configured I'm about every way possible.

OpenMaster with 4.3 (officially versioned as 4.3.2.1.000.000) is available for download. Grap the latest nightly here.
SuperUser is almost definitely not working; additionally I cannot confirm how well the gapps package works with 4.3.
This release is 4.3 plus what you see merged on AOSP Code Review.
This build was made with the 4.2.2 proprietary binaries. A build with the 4.3 proprietary binaries will be released later today.
Edit: The build available (AOSP-OpenMaster-kalaker-grouper-20130724-fixed_binaries.zip).
IMPORTANT: As of 20130724, the OpenMaster builds are based on Android 4.3. With Google's official release of Android 4.3 for the Nexus 7 (grouper), a new bootloader, version 4.23, was released. OpenMaster builds after 20130724 have only been tested with the new bootloader. No support will be provided for users of the older bootloaders.
Just to be clear apps like adaway won't work since it requires root?

It's neither. It's not 4.3. It's newer.
