[Q] Root after JB OTA - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had root when I had ICS but didn't take the necessary precautions before downloading JB OTA. Any idea on how I can get root now?

Use mattlgroff's utility to return to ICS. Take the 6MB update, root, install Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper, open it, Protect root, Temp unroot, Take the JB OTA, Open voodoo and restore root.

yes but that still didnt work~~~!!!
it says i have root but i dont.
voodoo says congratulations but im not rooted

[Q] Should I install 3.2 or wait for a flashable zip?

I was going to just install 3.2 from the OTA, but I thought I had better make sure what it will do to my root beforehand. I assume I will lose root. I also assume I won't lose Clockwork Mod right? But if I lose root how will I access Clockwork Mod to gain root back? Could I use ADB reboot recovery once a root solution for 3.2 comes out? Or should I just wait for a dev to release a pre-rooted flashable zip of 3.2? I'm not on a ROM. Thanks!
If you want to install the ota, you have to unroot and return to stock. Do not attempt to install the ota if you haven't done this.
It's a good thing I asked. The Flashable zip wait begins. It's not like 3.2 brings anything major.

Is it possible to root and still get OTA?

This is my daughters xoom. I really only want to root it to use Titanium Backup.
Is it possible to rooted with normal method by flashing cwm and flashing root from there using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242241
and then somehow reflash the stock boot/recovery images.
Would this allow a rooted device with OTA updates?
You can flash stock ROMs on a rooted device: yes.
However: during the process of rooting all of your data will be wiped, so you might want to check with your daughter if that's okay with her!
If you want to stay up-to-date with your Xoom (even before the stock ROMs come out!) my advice to you is to flash team EOS 2.0 on it.
It is extremely stable, runs ICS (even if you have the 3/4G model!)
I think that it's possible to get OTAs if you flash the stock ROM.
Watch out however! If you haven't installed VooDoo OTA RootKeeper, you will lose your root!
So: Install Voodoo OTA RootKeeper if you want to keep your ROM up to date with stock images, while remaining rooted!
Hope this helped, if so, please thank my post, sothat I start my sunday morning with a great feeling!

Ota rootkeeper

I am currently running the latest stock rom that was shipped with the s3. Not the update that came out yesterday. I am only rooted with no custom recovery or custom kernel. If I accept the update will my phone be Ok with only loosing root. Also if I use ota rootkeeper will it keep my root on the update. Please HELP because even though I had the option to reject the update I feel it might force the UPDATE and don't want to break my phone.

[Q] Cannot Update to New OTA VRALHE

Ok, I am running a stock rom rooted with no frozen apps. When the OTA tries to install it fails and when I try to use Kies the message " Your device does not support the update of Software via Kies" or something to that effect. I have never unlocked the bootloader, flash roms, or installed custom recovery on the device. Could I possible use OTA rootkeeper to unroot then check to see if the OTA will download and install? If that does work would I be able to restore the root? I don't guess I really need the new OTA but I want to be able to get JB when it comes out without any issues. Just as an added not it is currently running VRALG7...

If you're on ICS root with debugfs.
Install OTA Rootkeeper
Following the directions for temp unroot...OTA or manually upgrade incrementally to Jelly Bean.
Use OTA rootkeeper to re-root.
If you are on Jelly Bean
Downgrade to ICS .30
Install OTA rootkeeper.
Root with debugfs.
Temp un-root
OTA to Jelly Bean
Re-root with OTA rootkeeper.
There's all kinds of guides here in the forums.
Take a few moments to read them.
