Buddy of mine just bought a gently used skyrocket and the screen is much dimmer than the one he got when the phone first came out.
Is this a common issue? Custom kernels address this issue? Thanks!

Not a common issue i know that on Mohans EmbryoICS rom it has a tweaked screen for battery performance but it shouldnt be super dim if it is i would return to stock using Vincoms Stickie and see if the screen changes

Brightness at full capacity on both and they are quite noticeably different.

That sounds like a hardware problem.

only way to know if it is software or hardware is to flash a new rom. if the problems goes away you know if it doesn't you also know your anwser as well.

Are you seeing it on the keyboard only? ...and specifically when the device is rotated horizontally?
Take a screenshot, if it captures it then we know its displaying like that on purpose, if its hardware it may not capture it.
I don't see it on the screen shot but they here

The three line r there all the time. When I rotate the phone too

Definitely sounds like a hardware glitch to me. Take it back and exchange it.
Ok thanks

On the versions of android prior to ICS, I was able to swipe the status bar to dim or brighten the screen. This worked on stock rom or one made from a developer. It worked on my Captivate my Vibrant and my skyrocket. I installed Seans's SKYICS on my skyrocket and no longer have the feature. Is this something Samsung dropped in ICS or something I should ask the developer about? This was a really convenient feature for me.

In the latest ics leaks status bar slide brightness is disabled.
Didn't know this was built in thanks.

How do we get that back on ics?

Hello. I am running Jellywiz' rls12, which includes the camera from the Note2. I have my screen timeout setting to 10 seconds.
The question which I hope the forum members can help with is this:
When I am in the camera app and idle, the screen does not time out. Is this normal? If not, are others experiencing this issue and is there a fix?
Thanks!

Perfectly normal, you don't want to miss the moment because your screen timed out!

Thanks for sharing! However, I am yet to find the launcher settings. Would you mind shed some light?

I was looking Around for them too. There doesn't seem to be any.
This also supports the little number icon on some apps for notification!

I rreeaalllyyy like that it has those notifications. Works great, just wish there were more options. I'm back on gb rom for now (can't stand terrible battery drain), but when adampk and mazout get their rom/kernel finalized I'll probably reflash this.

Hey everyone, I was just wondering if this phone had a Gingerbread MIUI ROM, rather than 4.0 (like HebMIUI). I really dig the older MIUI and just wanted to know if that sort of thing was available for our model.
Thanks!

Ya its called miui revenge. Just goto the dev section and scroll down its pretty far down but its there.

Thanks! Looks s if it was abandoned back in June and had horrible battery life. I wonder if there was any more development for it afterwards...

Hopefully, we'll slay this SoD issue on CM9 Aries and all sorts of awesome ports will start coming in.

The bml version got pretty good battery life. It was the newest release if that rom that got bad battery life.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
There was another miui for gb besides revenge i believe.

Thanks! Did it have any issues, though? The last time I tried flashing MIUI on this phone ( forever ago), there was a problem with silent ringer and notification tones.

The newest MTD builds of miui do not have those issues. Battery life is pretty good also.
