Getting my device tomorrow - HTC One S

Hey guys,
I'm getting my device tomorrow and just figured I'd say hello to everyone. I'm not a total noob when it comes to android stuff, I do a bit of dev stuff here and there and I have made a few small apps, mods, etc. I would not consider myself a dev, though. Lol. Anyways, I'm pretty familiar with rooting HTC Devices, I've had the G1, MyTouch 3G, G2, MyTouch 4G Slide, HTC Sensation... etc. However, I am now coming from a Samsung Galaxy SII... While it was a nice device, I am VERY happy to be getting back to an HTC device. I'm also really looking forward to getting myself acquainted around these boards.

Welcome
The HTC One S was my first Android. I've only had it a week but I had no problem flashing root and ROM after reading all the great information on XDA.
Actually this very active section of XDA was one of the main reasons I chose one

Hey! Glad to see new people. This thread will most likely get closed like mine did last week lol but YOLO!!!!

did you get the black or grey one?

Yehaa, we are growing! Hey mate, glad to see you here, the OneS is awesome

This phone is great :fingers-crossed: I have one of it since 6 months and i don't regret it

I went from HTC Incredible S to One S, and wow, what a huge difference in performance. The One S is about as smooth as iPhone, which is pretty damn smooth. Incredible S lagged a lot and definitely felt like an old device compared to modern phones.

Lol. Yup, I got the black one. It'll be here today! (was supposed to be Friday but UPS messed up)

ahhhhh jealous man I want a black one but T-mobile reps are being dicks and don't wanna replace mine

All i'm going to say is learn about fastbooting the boot.img and use TWRP for a recovery and also enjoy.

You might want to downgrade your hboot since the black tmobile device comes with hboot 1.14

Since this thread exists, i ordered this phone via eBay India (t-mobile version) yesterday... will be getting it by Thursday/Friday...
My second Android device...

I personally usually find these threads quite boring to read but as I'm also getting my phone soon and this thread exists, then what the heck ! And this is also my first message on these forums so let this also serve as an introduction.
I got the phone (black, S4) for 347 euros (from an internet store here in Finland) with free shipping, so I felt the phone was a bargain. Originally I was on the market for Galaxy Nexus or Nexus 4. The Gnex felt a bit plasticky and with oldish hardware for the One s price, I ruled it out. The Nexus 4 seemed the ultimate android device and by far the best phone out right now. But when it came clear that the 300'ish price was only for certain countries (currently sells for about 550€ here in Finland) and the fact that i wouldn't get it for christmas, it was no longer an option. I was looking at Nexus phones because I like to tinker with my phones and want "a vanilla" android experience without any manufacturer bloat.
This is my second android device. I previously had a Motorola Defy that I had for about a year. Was running CM10 on it when it died (RIP) and absolutely loved it even though by the end of its' life it started dropping connections and I was unreachable at times (this nearly drove my girlfriend crazy couple of times ). After that I decided to try something totally different and went for a Lumia 800. That proved to be the biggest phone related mistake that I have ever made. The phone works great, never missed a call or text with it and the build quality is excellent. But I feel like I can't do enough with it. 4 months of Windows Phone is enough for me .
The phone actually has already arrived but I try to keep my hands off it until christmas eve. I'm currently really busy with work and studies and the phone would definately have a negative effect on my efficiency.

It's a really sleek phone and like previous posters have said, I can't recommend TWRP recovery enough. Unfortunately I am cursed with the S3 processor and don't really have much choice in terms of custom roms. Woe is me. But still, enjoy the phone man!

Tired of your HTC inspire?

I still like my inspire I'm not really interested on the new phones etc.Droid razr., galaxy nexus...
I'm holding my inspire till the HTC edge comes out =D

I get bored with phones very easily but once i got my Inspire i wanted to keep it for more than a month or 2 (which was the shelf life for a phone to me for a long time) So i rooted it to keep me busy/interested, and when i get bored i dive deeper into the root to make it better. But im at a point now where i dont know enough to go much further, and the onlyfriends i have that are into phones like i am are through here. So its hard to actually be taught anything. So i really want a new phone but not sure which direction i should go, or if i should hold out till the new batch of phones is out. In short, why cant i be satisfied with a phone nfor more than a few months?
Nope i wanna stick around until a while. The inspire is a great device
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
I will stick with it because I am on a contract and the phone is quite capable. And new phones come daily so if you sell inspire for dual core phone then quad core will come soon

I've found the Inspire to be one of the best phones I've ever owned. I think I'd only put the G1 above it in terms of phones I loved owning. The Inspire has given me 0 problems, has tons of dev support and is still very fast/snappy to use.
Not tired of it at all. I do lust for the Galaxy Nexus or the Razr while laying in bed at night...but I feel bad about it in the morning.

Lol to this
Also, I do find myself getting bored with it easily. Definitely an amazing device, but damn that Galaxy Nexus is tempting. If only it had the 8MP camera!
I actually really like my Inspire still, It's still a very capable device. I am going to be due for an upgrade in the next few months and i am going to be holding on to this phone i think for a while. Till something really catches my eye, because i really want to get another HTC device. The galaxy nexus looks sweet but im not a fan of Samsung's use of so much plastic on their phones.
My inspire makes me pancakes for breakfast every morning. I'll probably keep it until I'm tired of pancakes or my pants don't fit anymore.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using the power of the dark side
That's what's so great about Android and being rooted. Get bored, flash a new ROM. Voila, new phone
No way! I love my Inspire still, it's a great phone, everything is really smooth with it right now. I'll probably hang on to it for another 18 months till i have another upgrade.
I really like my Inspire. I can not find a reason to upgrade. Nothing else out does anything different. I need a new Experiance before I will upgrade again. (or my contract is up). I had a Windows phone and modded the hell out of it and then, I went Iphone and modded it to death, and then andriod. Modded to death. See my pattern, each was a new experience. I will need a reason to leave my phone before I will.
meh...
After having issues with the battery life, I'm ready to upgrade to something with a larger battery & better screen. I'm not really hating on the phone, just disappointed with it.
Next phone I buy will be at cost, since I picked it up for $100 with a new contract.
I'm not tired of it (took 2 months only) but maybe if a little disappointed, I was recently at a concert and record some songs but my disappointment came into play, pesimo sound seemed pfffff q was in a machine room, something my old iphone that never happened to me, but good either me every day I live concerts as he remains so until q together for my new iphone 4s.
I have to say I like it and can deal with the few minor probs like battery life until the edge is released or equal to it. Sense I buy all my phones at cost I am willing to wait and see the next Gen device and right now everything else is just too weak to justify upgrading yet
So far I'm lovin' it. While this IS my first smartphone, I'd have to say I'm impressed overall with the phone. One thing bugs me though. I don't take a lot of pictures, but when I do, I like to not have to set my whitebalance to fluorescent every time I want to take a low light picture with my flash... I kinda wish the coders had implemented where if the camera sees low light, and decides to use the flash, to just set the whitebalance to fluorescent. Ahh the little things.
Overall I like the build quality, for ME it's been a solid phone, and I love modding it. Endless entertainment!
i've had mine for a couple months and it's the best phone i've ever owned and im happy with it but honestly im bored. Too many sense rom's are the same and CM7 just dosen't interest me anymore and i've been using MIUI for the last couple weeks but i'm getting to the point where i can't really expand it that much more. I'm going to try to convince my dad (im only 14) to kick my brother off of our family plan and make him go to a gophone plan as he's 19 and dosen't use his phone much and then pay the ETF and switch to verizon, with christmas coming up i think he'll do it but i'll just have to wait
Tired of it? Heck no! This is my fifth Android device and I love it. To me nothing else out at the moment is compelling enough to switch. I love the actual build quality of the phone. Too many other phones just have too much plastic on them and they feel cheap. This phone is solid. Its plenty fast and well supported in the community. My contract is up in August of 2012 so if it doesn't get bricked before then, that is what I will be using. I look forward to see the offerings then.
I've had the inspire since launch day and it has lived up to the billing so far. There's really nothing you can't do with this phone. I live in Houston which has LTE but I'm working in Odessa right now so there's no need for me to jump into an LTE device just yet. They barely have hspa+ rolled out down here. I'll probably wait until next year for the new slate of devices, when att broadens their LTE footprints.
For now I'm enjoying my inspire
Sent from my HTC Inspire 4G using XDA App
I love my inspire but like others am bored of the same old roms. Wanted the vivid but with the tegra 3 quad core already in the new transformer 2 tablet I think I might wait. And Samsung I believe has a phone called the flex that is supposed to come out q2 2012 with a flexible screen and body I think there are too many better phones in the near future to justify using my upgrade now and waiting two more years to get something better. Girl I work with just ordered the vivid so i will just look at it when she gets it and go from there

Farewell One S Users !

Hey guys, Just letting you all know I will be ditching the One S tomorrow... I've got the Galaxy Note.
I know your thinking ''WTF?!?!?!'' But i had so many issues with the One S (signal related) it was driving me mad, I was offered the S3 (at a hefty price) or the Note, for free, So I took it.
When I first saw the Note I thought ''OMG Thats Hideous, Its waaaay too big'' But the more I saw it, the more I liked it !
My other contract is up soon so I will get the SGS3 then.
So thanks to every one who helped me since day one, I will be moving on to the Note forums as of tomorrow
I will still keep my Help Thread updated as much as possible, And will continue to help as and when I can.
Take care & good bye

I'm also considering to leave if I can except I just can't agree to pay the same price for a Galaxy Nexus that have much lower specs everywhere except with the screen and software side... (It's my only choice on my carrier (screw the Razr will ya?))
You are really lucky to have other choices like a Note.
I can't believe that HTC didn't offer a fix for the low signal... Oh, and there still no way to use Skype which I will really need starting next week...

4.3 qHD screen vs 4.8 HD screen don't count as a change?
.3mp vs 2.0mp front camera isn't useful too?
NFC, No-NFC? TouchWiz, Sense? LTE, No-LTE...
The GSIII and the One XL have little to differenciate, but we are talking about the One S here.
There's a huge difference but its value depends on the user and options.

hey azzledazzle,
i really appreciated the way you where getting on top of the issue with the virtual button mess, really liked your input. i counted you in for one who's pushing the issue further with HTC.
So, i find it a bit hard that you "gave up" on it but totally understandable on the other side. My One S is literally doing my head in (wife threw it at me in anger) with that perfectly unusable state its in. It sits there, playing with its screen and buttons just like its gotten its own mind but i cant make it do anything else most of the time.
So if it was like that for you, i can only repeat myself: i do understand. Still i find it a bit sad.
my opinion on the note: am working on it for my brother and i find it disappointing. Samsungs surface is stupid, KIES is like having one leg amputated, cant really go anywhere with that code, the phone hides anyones head while at it (just for the lolz of it), its too big. seriously.
And as a tablet, its too small. But as i said, my opinion
Good luck on your new adventures mister Azzle!
Hey mate,
Have fun with the Note, its been my primary device for 7 months now. Its a great phone. After a while its size becomes normal.
As for the comments above, i find it a perfect size, its like having a tab on you at all times. My only gripe is touchwiz, i do prefer sense.
Peace!

I can't say as I blame you. I getting pretty sick of my One S. Brilliant phone except it has next door to useless signal reception. It spends 3 to 4 hours a day without signal - which irritates when I know signal is good. What to replace with I dunno but this issue is likely to sicken me off HTC. Won't be the Note though as far too big for me
Galaxy nexus
Same here. After two months I am getting rid of it for Galaxy nexus $349 from the play store. We have minimal support for this device. Thanks to cm9 devs anyways.
It make no good to have powerfull phone that cannot multitask or have no completed custom ROM. And now Jelly Bean. By the time ONE S gets JB Google will announce next nexus probably this fall with KEY LIME 5.0
Better have slightly outdated hardware that prrobably will not be much noticable and have up to date software, vanilla or custom ROM with no issues.
And HTC and their delayed kernel source release. SIII released it before device was on the market. That how you get developers love.
I really wanted to love this phone, but yesterday I had a chance to exchange it for a new one in the box to see if it fixed my signal/wifi issues or get the Galaxy S3. Every smartphone I have owned has been HTC so I was nervous, but I opted for the S3 and all I can say is wow. It's an awesome phone and completely blows the One S out of the water for my needs.
I knew going into the the One S I would be making concessions on things I wanted such as an SD card slot and removable battery. Its a super sexy phone, but if you can't use it as a phone it does me no good, too many dropped/missed calls and poor wifi. I hope they do fix the signal issues for those who keep it and I'm glad some people were experiencing no problems.
HTC really needs to up their game on the next round of phones, I gave them extensive feedback online and they even called to follow up, which was nice. I told them I have owned a G1, MT3GS, G2, MT4GS and One S and enjoyed them all with the exception of the OS. I did have a seperate issue with them concerning the MT4GS and replacement parts that irritated me as well.
Best of luck to you all and thank you for all the help and resources from this forum!

Why are so many people selling their phones?

Well I just bought a One X from the MP. Should be here this week. I just noticed that there are more One X's in the MP than any other phone right now. Why is that? Are there any serious flaws with the phone? Or is everyone switching to the S3?

This. Lot's of ADHD too
Oh look it's pebble blue and so shiny.........
It could also be people up for an upgrade, and are content with their current phone so they take the trade, sell the phone and keep using their old one. Makes sense I suppose. If you like your phone and are willing to extend your contract you may as well take the trade and resell the phone for a 200-400 dollar(plus) payback from it. I thought about the same up until my xperia x10 started getting kinda buggy no matter what rom I had running on it [but i so so so miss that phone. oh the curves and design <\\3]. But the One X is a nice device. Plus some people prefer that ooh-look-I-have-the-best-device method. Same as people trading in their older xbox for the new slim one. To jump off topic on that, I've got a cod4 disk that works fine on my xbox [older] but on the slim it wont even detect the name of the game xD. <back on topic> I envy the "watch video while texting" feature on the SG3 but... Its not very erm... Usable in my opinion. If i'm gunna be texting someone, i wont be paying much attention to the video.
I also think that you're also seeing a very vocal minority. It's rare that forum space is dedicated to praise of a phone, or anything, really. Personally, I love this phone and have zero interest in anything else out there...if only they'd release the kernel...
It's because they are prematurely ejaculating over the pebble blue and marble white. I'll stick to my 1X.

OP, I was noticing this too (mainly because I was interested in picking up a One X, so I was looking for one). I think it's a combination of people being wow'd by the GSIII, early adopters wanting to try the latest and greatest, and people that just like to switch it up all the time.
I'm not complaining, though...I picked up one off the MP last night for $375. This is after I picked up a GNex earlier this week...LOL. I've just been wow'd by the One X's that I've played with, so I figured this would be a great chance to give one a go.
Of course, I'm also planning on getting a GSIII (I had a GSII until a couple of weeks ago and loved it). After I get it, I'll probably use all 3 for a little bit and then sell the one(s) that I like the least. I'll probably keep the GNex no matter what because I really like it and I'm interested to see what JB is all about.
Poor Quality control is one of the reasons.
HTC has been releasing way too many HOX with screen rippling issues when pressed, dead pixels, creaking unibody, heat issues and etc etc. Not the best from HTC.
IF you're lucky enough to get a well made HOX then that's great but personally I ended up with a bad one. Dead pixel, creaky body, heat issues, LCD rippling :/

Stumbled on this while randomly browsing the HOX forums...awesome app!!! I probably won't use it a lot, but glad to know I can use another one of the GS3's "exclusive features" flawlessly
Just got the phone and I can see why people wanna get rid of it :/ Just kidding lol. Its awesome. First thing I did was root/unlock/blal blah blah and flashed cleanrom 3.1.1. Everythings running great Loving it so far. Cant use it on a network for another week but so far no issues at all
I got the HOX right when it came out and have had zero problems with it, personally its the best phone I've ever owned. People may be selling them because they don't want or can't unlock the bootloader.
I love the phone myself and have had to exchange it three times, but it's been worth the hassle. I am also going to pick up the new Xperia this weekend.

Yep, I've exchanged mine 4 times. I love it. Wouldn't have gone through all that trouble if I didn't.
I checked out the Xperia, it's a really slick looking phone but felt really dated once I actually turned it on. The UI was waaaay too choppy for me... and it runs Gingerbread.

Love for the HOX :)

I've been trying to trade my HOX for a GS3 for a few days now but I'm getting ahead of myself so let me start from the beginning. I started out with my GNex and heard about the HOX and how amazing it was so like any other android enthusiast I immediately set my sights on acquiring one. However it wasn't as simple as that lol I tried for months to acquire one, refusing to pay cash, to no avail. With a somewhat mild sadness I gave up in defeat and made my piece with my GNex. Little did I know a ray of "hope" was gonna shine on me by way of the GS3 lol after leaks, rumors and shady speculation I immediately fell in love with it but the HOX still had a place in my heart I just could not get the simple elegance of that contour unibody silhouette out of my mind. So pushing all those mixed emotions and thoughts aside I decided to pursue the GS3. After finally acquiring one, which was a feat in and of itself, I spent a week with it and I must admit I treated it like a dirty mistress lol my GNex got shelved almost immediately and I used it every minute of that week. As the week was drawing to a close I sat down and thought about what exactly made me love the GS3 so much. Was it the design? Kinda. Was it the name? Not so much. Or was it the software? I came to the decision that this was the sorce of my affection. After coming to this realization I returned the GS3 and took my GNex of the shelf and fell for it all over again with the buttery sweet allure of Jellybean lol After using it as my daily once again I came to a settled state of mind and convinced myself that I was content in my decision to stay with the GNex. That was until I decided to peruse the marketplace on a whim. Then to what seemed to be that of a dream inside of a looking glass I saw that someone was willing to trade their HOX for a GNex. The first thought in my mind was &#&%@&&#&@* yeah!!! Lol I then preceded into making a trade and within 24 hours I had finally received my long awaited love. All those repressed thoughts and emotions came flooding back like a tsunami. And now as I type from my HOX I can now say that I am indeed content with this beautifully crafted piece of artwork....that is until the next thing comes out lol

Amazing story bro hahaha... although this phone had a small introduction, from the second I seen it I was also in love. Had to have it. Once I got it, the nostalgia was unreal. I can't stay off of it, can't stop customizing it. I've played around with a JB nexus, I play around with my buddies lte GS3.... I just don't think they compare to my OneX. We do alot of modding and different roms.. my benchmarks absolutely tower over theirs, do side by side comparisons and mine is just way more snappy flipping through screens, in and out of apps, and going in and out of app drawer... not to mention the screen is out of this world. My wife accidently dropped it (never left a mark).... almost divorced her lol. So I came to my senses, rubbed her back and told her it was OK... I'm talking about my OneX of course hahaha.

I just about passed on it, had gone through the Desire triangle twice an felt cold after, scooped a Razr an watched market an one came along in perfect condition on the cheap, now my Razr is with my bud an I'm rocking this beast, glad I didn't pass it up.

I as well really was blown away when I first saw the phone make its debut in Barcelona at the convention. Being on sprint i was very disappointed that sprint had decided to keep the evo line going and not go with the at lease the look of the one-x. So after months of trying to decide of weather to leave sprint or take the move to att I finally took the plunge last Sunday and I have made the move. I absolutely love this phone, coming from my great OG EVO this phone rocks. The only and I mean only con I can say (at least for me) is the lack of the total 16gigs and sd slot. I mean can learn how to manage not having and SD but the fact that i don't have all of my 16 gigs (to be honest even 15 or so would have been nice) I kinda ticking me off, but not enough to leave this phone. Thanks again HTC for making a really good looking phone.
Awesome phone
Yea I know what ya mean. I saw this phone knew I had to have it. Tried every way I could to get my hands on it. Had an atrix 2 before and no one wanted to trade with boot. So I broke down and done early upgrade and just gonna try to sell my atrix 2. Got my case in today and hated to put it on this beautiful phone. But its clear so I can still see its beauty haha
OP, my story sounds a lot like yours. At the moment, I've got 4 phones (insanity)...4S (which will go to my wife to replace her iPhone 4), GNex (which I love), One X (more about it in a second), and S3.
Like you, it started by perusing the MP. Initially, I found a GNex for a great price in mint condition. I jumped at it and it's a wonderful phone. My only gripe is the speaker volume on calls. The tweaks that worked to make it louder when it was on ICS don't work anymore on JB, so it's become my backup phone. If only I could make the volume louder, it would be the perfect phone for me.
A week or so later, I came across a One X in the MP. Again, great price and mint, so I took a flyer and got it too. This was just before the S3 came out and I'd already decided to try the S3 since I had a S2 that was awesome. The One X was everything I'd hoped for. Beautiful design and that screen...OMG that screen!
So...then the S3 was available. I grabbed one from Best Buy off-contract. I love this thing! It's everything i was hoping for and more. I don't even feel the need to root it.
So then, I told myself a decision had to be made. I wasn't going to keep 3 phones (GNex, HOX, and S3)...that's just silly...right? So after using each of them for a week, I came to the conclusion that I'd sell the HOX, as I wanted to keep the GNex as a "play" phone to mess with ROMs and such and since the S3 was going to have such a big development community behind it it would stay also.
About 4 days passed after selling the HOX and I found myself missing it. So, the search began again for another one. Sure enough, another beauty popped up on the MP and I snatched it up. So, here I sit...3 phones that I rotate between. LOL...it's a sickness!
I won't lie, though. My go-to phone is the S3. But every so often I switch it up for a day or two and use either the GNex or HOX and get my fix. I'll keep the S3 for a while, but eventually (probably when the next Nexus phone is coming) I'll sell the HOX and GNex to fund it. I have no intention of going back to the iPhone anytime soon, though. These 3, along with my Nexus 7, give me all I need and more.
Since the One X came out, ive had (in order) Grey One X, White SGS3, Blue SGS3, Grey Int One X, Grey One X, Red SGS3, White One X. Yes, im crazy. Basically, even though I like grey much more than white, im happy im going to stick (and finally decidedly staying) with the one x. SGS3 is the phone I wanted to like, but all I enjoyed was the removable battery and microSD card slot (didn't use it for swapping but just for more memory). I think I just fell for samsung's blitz of advertising.

all I understand is that you have lots of money
From beast called HTC One X
There is actually somebody local wanting to trade their galaxy nexus for a HOX.. hmm I don't know if I want to give it a go. All their constant updates and true jelly bean experience is kind if a win. But I love the looks of this phone. The touch screen feels amazing!

LOL...I wouldn't say that. I make enough that I can put away some play money. The problem is, my hobbies keep evolving. First it was my motorcycle and having to buy all the gear that goes along with that (in multiples, of course...gotta be ready for whatever Mother Nature throws at you and wet leathers SUCK!) Now, on top of that expensive hobby, there's this phone hobby that I've developed. Ugh.
The key is to make sure you take care of the things that matter most first. My car is paid off...my motorcycle almost is...my bills are all static, so I know exactly what I have to pay out every month. Little by little, put away money in a savings account and before you know it, you've got a nice stash to play with.
The phone hobby is really only expensive at the beginning. Once you've got a couple of phones, you simply sell one and move on to the next one. Now the overhead is low (you sell X phone for $300 and buy Y (new) phone for $400 so you're only out $100 total). The key is knowing when to sell the old phone (a window I've probably missed on the HOX...but I'll still get a decent amount out of it).

Software is software, we will get Jelly Bean in time. Screen, build, camera (DEF CAMERA) are way better on the one x. Dont downgrade yourself.

To be honest, I wouldn't give up my GNex for the HOX. The HOX is amazing, don't get me wrong. But the GNex is just so much fun with all the ROMs you can play with. The camera isn't THAT bad and if you use another kernel like Franco or Trinity, you can tweak the screen to be pretty darn good. One thing I love about the GNex is that it's nearly unbrickable. Unless you really screw something up, you almost can't.
I'd recommend both to anyone, though.

while I loved my galaxy nexus, AOSP was just too boring for me plus I don't really like the Holo theme all that much. I prefer the look and feel of stock sense... plus, this phone is dead gorgeous! yes, I know sold an open phone for a "closed" one, but all the roms over in the GN are just AOSP Jelly Bean... there were no real differentiators except some mods tweaks here and there.
Plus, I can't wait to get Jelly Bean Sense... I loved the changes in the notification drawer and the way notifications were displayed as well as the ability to have high res contact pics (synced with Google)

Thats exactly how I felt. Sure there 78 ROMS and 43 Kernels, but the phone is still visually 80% the same between all of them. ive been rooting/flashing my phones for a few years, and I gotta say that honestly, I have a 100% stock/unrooted 2.20 OTA One X and theres not a single want to change that (other than maybe ADFREE)

This. I'm running the rooted, odexed version of 2.20... the only reason I care to do root is AdAway and I do like to flash the occasional rom to check it out, but it seems like I always come back to stock 2.20.
Plus I can't stand AMOLED screens and how you can't see them in the daylight.

I was a DIEHARD SAMOLED fan, probably because of my bias toward Samsung (I love their TV's and have had them my entire adult life). But WOW, the daylight difference between these two is night and day. Big plus especially if you do alot of car-dock mode driving.
Funny thing is, is that I actually love AOKP/AOSP. I'm using CM9 on this HOX cause I can't stand sense. Only thing I want more on this phone are more kernels and OTG support. Then this will be perfect.

It's sad

Is sad to see the infuse forums are nearly dead, the only thing that sends to be left is Scott's beanstalk and cm thread.

The Infuse can't go on forever, and people get new phones eventually. It's just the nature of tech. I myself moved on from the Infuse, but have fond memories of it, since it was my first smartphone. But greener pastures were calling me. I now have the Moto G, which is a great phone for the price. It absolutely smokes the Infuse speed-wise. And as soon as the Nexus 6 comes out, I'm getting it. Yeah, I've become a performance whore. :victory:
But I will still come here to see how long the Infuse will live on. I say 6 months to a year, and these threads will be pretty much dead.

I agree. I really wish I had time to get into development for this phone as I will likely be using it until the hardware quits on me and I'm forced to upgrade.
Are there any other Infuse related forums out there? XDA has always seemed like the most active, but I've never really looked for an alternative.

i too have moved on to a moto razr hd....doesn't even compare. the kernel is really outdated, i recently changed the battery from the original but i found that the batt life was just not sufficient with the new roms. i have mine on infinitum rom which seems to be the best upgrade for me from gb vis a vis battery. my moto lasts easily all day and more....but it was a great way to learn modding.
i have 2 new devices but still keep my infuse updated with the latest BeanStalk (would perfer omni or pa or something not so heavy)thats not to say i dont love beanstalk and scotts work or appreciate it, as i do i just wish there were more options to flash.
atm have my sIII running vanir
and my Nexus 7 running Omni, Ubuntu touch, PA, and slimkat... (thanks to multirom)
All devices must one day die... It's an unavoidable part of technology.
im still suporting the infuse on beanstalk best phone ive had its on par with the sensation that i had....just wish more devs would help scott out....if i were to "upgrade" i'd had to choose the S5 or the Htc One

im with you on that nexus devices are awesome
There would be one more ROM that is active in the thread if the Carbon ROM maintainer could get the data/radio issues he's having sorted out, but he doesn't use the infuse as a main phone, so doesn't have a sim for it which means people have to test for him and I haven't seen any fixes pushed to their gerrit either recently. And plus I don't know if he has any help from any other devs. Oh well, as you've all said, she has to die some day. I myself am looking for a new phone, but just because the infuse is reaching end of life in terms of development. Otherwise I love this phone

Yeah, the infuse was the best phone I had too, up until I got my Moto G. After trying out some of the new phones a few months back, I could no longer hold onto the infuse. Things were slow and slightly flaky at times. Sure, it's a usable phone, but I wanted more. I wanted native KitKat, speed, more RAM, upgrades from the manufacturer, and to be more future-proof.
And after I get the Nexus 6, it will be the best I've had. A year later, something else will be the best, and it goes on and on.................
Just because the infuse is the best you've had, doesn't make it any more desirable at this point. Not putting you down for using it, as I had it for almost 2 yrs. and serviced me well. It will be interesting to see how long it takes before this infuse forum becomes a ghost town.

true since the GS5 is already gonna be released (to the public) and is the new one gonna be called the HTC Two? cause that would be funny
the infuse was an interim device to get an att 4g samsung phone out the door before the s2, which was released shortly thereafter. the result was a phone with the internals of the s1 (processor, ram, ect) and externals of the s2 (screen, camera, housing, ect) and of course a 4g hspa+ radio. the phone was an accidental success, selling 9 million devices, probably due to good reviews, superfluous awards, and a steep price drop after the s2 was released. att tried to copy the idea, albeit less successfully, with the skyrocket in an attempt to release a 4g lte phone. but theres no need for interim devices anymore to push a new radio technology as all phones since the s3 (the most successful smartphone ever) have had the latest and greatest lte radios.
the new htc will be called "the new htc one" a la the "the new ipad". its a terrible name and wont help the struggling company push new hardware. which is sad as it looks to be a very nice phone.
ill be saying goodbye to my infuse tomorrow as att has decided to replace it with an s4. ive been putting off buying a new phone. mostly because i have wanted to keep my options open and not sign a new contract. and ive been nitpicking on new devices as an excuse not to buy one. but the infuse is getting old an is scraping the minimum requirements for android and its getting time to upgrade. newer phones look like they will have a longer shelf life as even newer versions provide very little reason to upgrade. the s5 has almost nothing better than on the s4. its bigger, thicker, and heavier than the s4 to make room for a minuscule update in screen size, with rather useless features like a heart rate monitor (which you can do with you camera now anyways) and a terrible swipey finger print reader. you can also pick up a moto g, a very powerful phone, for chump-change.

heh. id probably pass. my brother had one. it didnt quite get the development it need.
I like my Infuse, but I have since moved on to the HTC MyTouch 4G Slide (a phone that is just as old). I wanted something a little smaller (one that could be carried in a lanyard case), but more importantly I missed having a physical keyboard (which is why I hung on to my LG Breeze feature phone for so long). The MT4GS covers both these things, and I'm mostly happy with it (battery drain with CM 10.1 is at the top of my annoyances).
I have been thinking of what to do with the Infuse next. Currently it is a media player and a backup phone, but I think I may hand it down to my sister, as she has a bit of an interest in smartphones now. However I'm having trouble parting ways with it. Oh well.
Sad to see a forum dwindle away to nothing.
I agree, it's very sad. But, time will always move forward and technology goes with it. All the devs for this device has made the infuse a legendary device, and I hate to see it become a thing of the past.

Don't play Taps too early. The latest ROM, 4.4.275, has proven to be quite a solid release for Infuse. Don't be surprised when Android 4.4.3 makes it to the Infuse.
