Can anyone tell me how i can set a background image on the gtab without the image always needing to be cropped. It seems that every image that i try to set as the wallpaper ends up being zoomed in or needs to be cropped.
Now i understand this to be same on all android devices as it is on my EVO4g.
I guess i am trying to find a way to post a wallpaper that is already formated for the gtab screen to utilize the full image in the entire screen as opposed to having to crop the image and end up with a zoomed in wallpaper..
God I hope this made sense lol

I select the correct resolution (960x800) and try to set it as wallpaper or save the image and then set it as wallpaper that way but everytime the cropping tool pops up. How do I do it without the cropping tool?
You'll always get the cropping tool - just drag it to the full size and set it. Easy

The biggest it will go only gets like a fourth of the picture. I'm on the correct resolution too so I don't know what's going on.
I assume you know you can drag the window to make it larger/smaller?

When cropping tool pops up dont do anything but center it. Then it will work.

Yeah it doesn't go much bigger though. I'm really confused. If I'm selecting the right resolution on that site it should fit the whole thing shouldn't it?
It should so double-check the resolution of the picture you've downloaded

I'm only getting a small portion of the picture then. Can someone try that site and see if maybe the resolution on the site is wrong. I'm trying the first picture, the big tree.

You might want to resize then. The Sensation is 960x540 , not 960x800.
That's just for a single home screen - wallpaper is wider to accommodate the movement of Sense across the screens

Ahh ok thanks.
How do I make it so the wallpaper slides with the homescreens?
Hi!
I've got a Motorola Xoom, and I'm trying to personalize it a bit, but when it comes to setting the wallpaper I want I'm stuck.
Apparently some design-genious at Google found out that you have to crop your wallpaper so it fits both in landscape- and portrait-view. Doesn't actually sound too bad, but when you realize what resolution the wallpapers need to be; it starts getting utterly stupid. In order to make the wallpaper fit perfectly into the crop-frame it has to be 1920 x 1408px. That means that i have to crop all my 16:10 wallpapers quite a bit in order to make them fit.
What I actually want is a fixed wallpaper. I want a wallpaper that fits in landscape-view (1280 x 800px) and doesn't move when scrolling through the home-screens.
Is this possible?

Maybe I can give you some ideas. First a disclaimer: I'm running ICS and using Trebuchet launcher, and I add my custom wallpapers to the Trebuchet launcher before compiling it myself. I like to have the fancy wallpaper selection screen with my custom wallpapers, so I don't know how this would turn out if you just selected a wallpaper from the sd card and used that annoying crop screen to select a wallpaper. Anyhow, with that out of the way, this is how I do what you describe using a photo editor such as GIMP. Maybe you can adapt this to your situation:
1. Resize the original wallpaper to 1920x1408
2. Add solid black background layer of same size (1920x1408)
3. Resize the foreground picture layer to 1280x800 and save
4. Using Trebuchet launcher, disable wallpaper scrolling
That gives me the entire photo inside one screen without scrolling (landscape mode only). When in portait I have black bars on top and bottom. I'll attach an example. Maybe you can adapt this somehow because I'm not sure how it would work with the wallpaper picker that makes you crop the photo.
That is actually the best solution I've seen so far, but I still feel it is a little too much hassle for something that really should be easy to do.
Thanks for your help!
I think, unfortunately, the most common fix to this issue is to install Multi Picture Live Wallpaper (free in the market).
You can set the picture as the source image and you'll want to disable vertical sync I think it is..
Unfortunately the cropping issue blows and we have to go elsewhere to fix it.
Multi Picture Live Wallpaper is an okay solution, but it is kind of buggy. When changing to portrait-view and back to landscape-view the wallpaper gets zoomed.
After checking the Android bug-tracker I found that there were several people with the same problem, and I added a comment. I suggest that everyone else who is bothered by this, does the same.

Thanks!!

I am using HTC One V and I tried using quickpic but it doesn't work for me as mentioned above I used option "Set as quickpic wallpaper" and still shows me frame to crop and it doesnt stretch to entire screen. Anybody else faced this problem? Please help. Its annoying that HTC is forcing crop to set image as wallpaper. I downloaded HD 480x800 resolution wallpapers to go with my screen resolution and it still doesn't work
What a great idea though....quick pic def crops but if you put an extension on the photo you could get the whole photo in the crop
How would one do that? Or if someone can make an app...

I've tried this on kindle fire and transformer prime and my wallpaper always resets back to default crop after I go from landscape to portrait, or when I reboot. Any fixes for that?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium HD app
I'm not the creator of the app. I don't own a kindle fire to try it out so I'm not sure why that is happening or how to fix it.
As for the transformer... not sure either. I use that app on the tf01 transformer without any issues.
I have also used it on the xoom as well without a problem.
Both of those devices are running ICS ROMS with a custom kernel.
Maybe it's just my launcher then as I use nova prime on both devices

That would make sense. I don't use nova.

FREAKING GENIUS!!! Made an account just to tell you THANKS!!! :good:
I just put my order in for a TF700 (via newegg) and would like to start making wallpapers to use on it. I've read that you can't just take a 1920 x 1200 image and use that, because when you set up the new wallpaper it will get cropped and the quality will get reduced. Does anybody have a template for this or know how large the image should be? I have experience with Photoshop so resizing or editing won't be a problem.
Try Wallpaper Wizardrii app.
Thanks, I'll try that one. I've also heard that Multipicture Live Wallpaper works too. I just thought I'd see if there was anything I could do myself in Photoshop before the device gets here.

That seems like an interesting live wallpaper, I might want to look into that. I thought I saw something like that built into a Lenovo tablet at some point.
If you're using the default launcher, you need a 1920*1920 image for true native resolution in both landscape and portrait (the corners get cropped).
If you've used a custom launcher, you might have noticed that the wallpaper crops off in portrait mode. Well my friends, I've got a fix for you.
1. Download multipicture live wallpaper from the play store
2. Go into common settings and select image source (settings for the lwp I mean)
3. Select single image and choose an image with your gallery
4. Select fit to fullscreen
5. Go to the transitions and select none, disable reflections and change the picture change interval to never and set the color to true (24 bit)
6. Apply the live wallpaper
7. ????????
8. Profit!!!!!!!!
(Idk if this is common knowledge)

Success! This will keep me going until the devs fix their launchers to accommodate the HD screen. I would add 4 changes to the settings:
Show reflection (top) - disabled
Show reflection (bottom) - disabled
Picture change interval - Never
Color depth - True color (24 bit)

Thanks dude, forgot to put that on there.
Ok, now this is a solution we were all waiting for.
Only two things though:
- pretty slow when changing portrait/landscape
- what is a battery consumption? it is a live wallpaper after all, and i know they are pretty heavy on battery. isn't so?
Thanks for the tip!!! :good:
Seems so far both the stock launcher and SPB Shell 3D don't have issues with cropping. SPB is pricey though.
I seem to be getting a slower performance when scrolling than from what I get with nova launcher and a normal wallpaper

I have been using spb shell on my tf700 and it seems to work well for a day or two but then it crashes and won't start again unless I uninstall and re-install. Have you had any issues like this?
No, I'm on stock now, haven't really been using SPB, seems overpriced, but I've seen it working fine for an hour or so, so no long-run experiences here. You can probably ask for a refund or at least complain about it to their support for that price

Indeed. I was getting very angry in the last days as my infinity became very slow and apex would crash a lot.
After few weeks i finally decided to go back to normal wallpaper and somehow live with a cropped wallpaper because this live wallpaper solution was slowing down my pad just too much.
I do have beta release of apex installed, so maybe there are some problems with it too (well, certainly...), but i can live with that.
why use a beta when there are stable versions available?

Living on the edge man, living on the edge
Don't understand why setting wallpapers has to be so difficult.
Just want to change my lock screen wallpaper, which this app actually does, but it wrecks my custom wallpaper for my home screen. It just ends up cropping it different ways compared to how Nova Launcher crops it, so it never looks right.
You know there's an app called simple image that's specifically for this.
