Is there any external battery hub thingie that would have USB ports onboard and won't require the additional Y cable? I mean, just one cable to Touchpad and that's it. I remember reading about some sort of square solar charger a year ago, but i can't find neither a model nor the confirmation that that's a thing that i need.
i use a solar powered 4 port usb hub.. works great.
instead of square shaped, it is rectangular and all the hubs are in-line.
i paid 10$ shipped... when not it use, the battery lasts a long time.
i ordered it from meritline.
i still see on amazon.

looks like the same thing.. including the cable.. TIP:: if you get one,, be SURE to use the included cable..
idk why / what is different bout it and any other usb cable, but an ordinary cable will cause many probs
edit: turns out that the standard cable isnt so important as sequence of connection and mounting.. plug in peripherals to hub, switch on, connect cables, make sure mounting app is enabled, connect OtG to hptp.
Huh, thanks. Gotta get this one!

Looking for a desktop dock that provides PC connectivity AND a decent AC charge.
I understand that it will need a seperate charger as well as the PC USB connection.
Don't mind spending a bit of money on it either, just don't want to get another crappy one off Ebay that doesn't do the job properly.
I'm also after a nice dock for work. mobilefun.co.uk have a few at not too bad prices. That said only one of them had a dock with an extra micro usb port on the back for faster AC charging.
Mine has a USB port on the back for faster AC charging. It doesn't work, regardless of which charger I use to power it!
I am very happy with this one from Proporta
http://www.proporta.com/F02/PPF02P05.php?t_id=5068&t_mode=des
It has a nice support and does a good charge each evening for me. I could not ask for more for 17 euros.

I think that is one of the main questions of the op.
Yeah what I'm after is a dock that will use the AC supply for charging and USB for PC connectivity.
Did you even visit the page and read the product description?
This handy product plugs into a standard USB port and includes AC power input with LED indicator for fast charging using your standard AC power supply

I'm ashamed to say I didn't. I have now though and am about to order one.
Cheers guys!
The desire will only use 500mAh of power regardless of how much is avalible unless the data pins on the usb are shorted.
This means you cannot have fast charging and USB at the same time.

Read all first!!! "Description The USB Sync-Charge Cradle allows you to make a little home for your PDA on your desktop in the office or at home. This handy product plugs into a standard USB port and includes AC power input with LED indicator for fast charging using your standard AC power supply (not included with this product). "
Therefore it doesn't include the AC adaptor.

What he said. That is a built-in Desire feature to prevent frying usb ports.
I have made a USB dummy socket with the data pins shorted and when the cradle is not plugged into the PC I have it plugged in this dummy socket to boost the charging. The cradle is powered from an external adapter. I found out that shorting the data pins while the Desire is plugged in cradle will not boost charging, you need to insert Desire in the cradle while the pins are shorted.
Hi,
I'm looking for a short usb cable to charge my DHD...I searched the forums and found this link:
h t t p ://shop.brando.com/brando-workshop-usb-to-micro-usb-adapter_p04234c1181d039.html
Will this be compatible with the HTC Desire HD?
I could swear someone I've met before - who has a Desire - has got a short HTC marked usb cable - does anyone know anything about that?
Thanks
As long as it's a USB to Micro USB cable any will do fine no matter brand.

It should be. Any standard USB cable should do.
try something like this :
www.dicksmith.com.au/product/E6201/milkshake-retractable-cable-usb-to-mini-micro
you can find these cables on ebay.
works well and also does mini usb. be careful some usb to micro usb cables are for charging only and do not have the data lines connected.
Yeah. I've always been amazed by vendor branded usb cables - nokia is guilty too, they try to give the impression that their ones are different but any compliant usb cable will work.
I've just ordered a couple of Micro to Mini USB adapters. I have loads of Mini USB leads at home but only 1 micro USB which is the one that came with the phone.
be careful with those mini to micro usb adapters as a lot of them do not have the data lines connected so they are only useful for charging.
I have a short Nokia CA-101D cable that came with a 5800. Works fine with Samsung i8910, HTC Desire and Desire HD (from my experience) for both data and power.
Cable is 20cm long and can be bought for less than £2 from various places including Amazon and Ebay.
Hope this helps. John

That's cute and clever that thing, but to the OP: if you want a short cable to charge off your laptop then it won't work. Even off the PC. It will only charge from the mains.

Errrm, no. Mine charges just fine from the USB port on the pc and laptop.
Yeah, can draw up to 500mA from a standard usb port.
lol damn i got a crappy usb connection then! I say there watching 60% for over an hour so I was left thinking it didn't charge, only transferred data!
IMO USB charges should be avoided, it should be possible to turn off charging.
While it is not exactly harmful to the battery like it used to be, I have the pretty strong feeling that low-ampere charges suck. Try it your self one day, after your battery is fully conditioned. Go down to like 40% of charge and then leave it at some USB port overnight. Then watch how quickly the power drains the next day. Then compare that to a charge from 40% to full on a high ampere (1000-1200mah) connections like the mains charger or a good car charger.
The charge seems to last longer. I have noticed this with multiple USB-charging devices now and I think it has to do with the amperage / time of the charger. The lower it is, the longer the charge takes the shallower the carged battery is.
That was the feeling I had too psychotic, but when I claimed this at a different forum I was laughed at and told that a full charge is a full charge except that a USB-charge takes longer... Do you have anything to back it up?
If looking to charge in the car...
... then aren't there specific USB cables where a couple of the pins are shorted or something so that the car panel opens? Seen a thread on this site, but can't find it right now!

Actually I read somewhere that a computer slow charge actually gives you slightly more capacity. Can't remember where though! makes sense since fast charges usually get a bit lower capacity.

I think that's the case. Slow charging via USB also doesn't heat the battery up so much, so is kinder to it.

For charging, the original charger with fast charging from Samsung. You can also get it the fast charging car adapter.

No, there're ton of alternative. Many cables that I already have work fine with QC 2.0.
I don't mean to butt in but I see this topic is about charging cables and was wondering what is a good thick charging cable that would last a long time. It seems all the cables i had the ends that plug into the phone would stop working like either it would not stay plug in or just won't charge anymore and the cable it's self would start to come apart from bending over time.
Ya i dont think the op was asking about actual cargers but the cable itself. I got this same charger off ebay and the cable is great. The little led lights up as soon as u touch the actual micro usb section so u can see to plug it in in the dark. It only lights up when u are touching it with your hands. Cable is nice and long and seems to be holding up great.

Droidmodderx just reviewed a great aftermarket cable that would work fine with our phone on YouTube it's a hybrid cable that plugs into a phone either way no more needing to check which way is up anymore and it's non tangle durable material. Just search that name on YouTube and watch his review
https://youtu.be/x4bHKpa-3QA here's that sweet after market cable review. Definitely buying this if one of my cords takes a dump
I used to think all USB cables were the same and paying more for one was a waste of money. But I was so wrong. A quality cable gives faster charging and better data performance alongside a more durable construction.
I use and recommend Volutz branded cables. They aren't actually that much more expensive and buying a 'pack' of them off Amazon worked out exceptional value. I have had no issues on the S6 Edge+ with them at all

I got a 3-pack Ace Teah reversible cable from Amazon. It works fine for me.
What's more, it is 3 pack with 6.6ft great length and only cost me $11.99! Recommended!
I have seen them for the S2, but the S2 has an flat edge as far as i can see where the microusb sits, when on the 10.5" the edge is angled.
This will eliminate wear and tear on the microusb port once fitted, and you can connect the charging cable to the tablet with your eye closed, just about anyway.
Has anybody see one, below is an link to the S2 version XDA page.

To charge my Tab S 8.4, I use one of those two-piece magnetic charging systems. In my case, I use the system sold as Wiskin and other names. You snugly insert a tiny adapter into the Tab S's micro USB port, then charge it with a special cable that works just like Apple's original magnetic charger. It works great. I have five of these cables: office, kitchen, car, bathroom, and beltpouch. The system claims to charge as fast as 2.4 amps, but I suspect my Aukey 2.4A smart AC adapters are throttling that because I've never seen a charge rate beyond 1500 mA, even when the Tab S's screen brightness is set at 1 percent and the tablet is idle, drawing 300 to 400 mA.
I also use one of the adapter inserts in my Sony Smartwatch 3. I plan to use a third in my VicTsing bluetooth headset when the headset arrives.
Having ruined two Sony phablets by physically inserting and removing standard cables, I absolutely love these magnetic chargers.
The charging cables are available in different LED colors. The first cable I bought uses a blinding white LED, even when it's not connected to any device. I keep it in the bathroom, where it doubles as a night light! The second adapter uses a soothing green LED; prettier and more soothing than white, but it, too, illuminates even when not connected, giving you no way to confirm with a glance that your Tab S is charging. The third through fifth use a soothing red LED that's normally dark but illuminates when charging. That's more like it. The red ones were claimed to turn green when the device is fully charged, but mine don't. Oh, well. I've also seen, I think, blue LEDs, or green-changing-blue, or red changing to blue. Check Amazon and eBay.

oh.. this is nice features... i wonder if i can find it in my place...
Just received my magnetic adaptor and cable, as can be seen from the photo in the previous post you get 1 cable and 2 microusb adaptors, It take quite a bit of force to insert the adaptor into the micro usb on my 10.5" but this is so it does not come out easily, it does come with a tool to remove the adaptor.
I have the "Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 Inch Unicorn Beetle Pro Full-Body Protective Case" on my 10.5" and the magnetic cable works fine with it, there is just enough space, and the port cover almost totally closes, good enough for me, all seems fine on day 1
My 10.5" seems to charge at full speed with this cable, the cable end has an charging led on it, I dont know if this goes off as i rarely charge my tab to 100% to preserve the battery.

And me
Recently I came across magnetic USB cable. Looks cool and such.
I did my homework and looks WSKEN mini 2 is amonth the best.
I've got 2 questions:
1. Does someone using this cable or at least magnetic cable? How is it in real life?
2. Does fast charging (9V, 1.67A) working on such cables?
Thank you.

Magnetic power is reasonable but they will pop off if you change the angle but that was true of all of them
stupid me, I forgot to include the link on the cable I'm looking at:

I have a similar magnetic cable i bought on amazon. It works fine, but i find it disconnected (physically) when i tugged it a little. I've stuck to a normal charger now as its more practical for me.

Replaces a regular cable and has an adapter that stays in the phone and it's a quick connect. Check any of the links above to see more about them. The ones I linked actually work pretty well.

You don't have to plug it in, just attach it and the adapter stays in which means less wear and tear on the port.
To be fair, the only issues with usb ports only happen with Samsung devices
