[Q] HTC One S S4, Verified everything still unable to install custom ROMS - HTC One S

OK so I have a One S Verified the bootloader was unlocked in bootloader, CWM is installed, verified that the device is in fact rooted using Root Checker.
When I'm in CWM and I wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, then I wipe dalvik, then format system, data, and boot. When I try to install a ROM it says something about Symlink Error unable to do something I have no clue, anyone know what I should do......

Use TWRP 2.x - it's much better and probably won't have that error message

Yes, with many custom roms you need to also extract the boot.img from the zip file and flash it seperately using fastboot in the bootloader.
In your command prompt you would type fastboot flash boot boot.img <--- assuming you place the boot.img in the same folder as fastboot.
You need to do this especially if you are coming from SENSE base to AOSP (ie CM10). AOSP needs a different kernel.

Thanks for everyone's help. This is my brother's phone, while I'm used to unlocking HTC devices with Revolutionary, this was my first attempt on a newer device.

Help Please!!!

Alright, I rooted my Nexus S 4G this guide. My phone was running 2.3.5 but I figured that these steps in Terminal wouldn't really change. When I flashed the "recovery-clockwork-3.0.0.5-crespo.img" it didn't install properly (I assume because it was out of date/wrong version) Anyway, I flashed this instead with no problems.
In my euphoria over solving my clockwork problem, I forgot to flash the "su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip" and flashed the current version of MIUI. I am now stuck in a bootloop and I cannot enter recovery by using power+volume. I cannot turn the phone off. I can load the bootloader screen using Terminal while I plug it into my computer, but I don't know what to flash to fix the phone, and start over/end up with a Nexus running MIUI.
i dont know much about macs but you can flash the img files through fastboot.

I can handle the mac part if you can show me which files to flash in which order to make my phone work again.
Okay this will take your phone back to stock. Download the grj22 image files. When you open it up it should have like 4 or 5 img files. After that open up cmd and type in the commands buglesspete has in his first post. It should be under "return to stock" or sometime like that.

Just a general hint... if oyu own a Nexus S 4G, Crespo isn't the right codename to look for.. it's crespo4g. Get the cwm recovery from here and flash the 4G version via "fastboot flash recovery <recoveryname>.img": http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988686

I have no experience with the 4G version of this phone but I can tell your that bootloops are usually caused by failing permissions (fix permissions in cwm rec) or missing wipes before isntalling the actual rom.
So I'd go back to start, flash the 4g recovery, wipe everything (including "mount and storage"'s /boot and then flash MIUI for 4g from here afterwards.
Basically, that MIUI (and most other custom roms) includes superuser.zip aka root. No need to root the devices before, all you need is an unlocked bootloader.

Trying to install CM10 with TWRP

I have an att htc one x that has 4.01 and 2.20 software. I was able to successfully root the phone and now I'm trying to install CM10 but it's failing when trying to install.
It says it missing a MD5 File and says theres an error in the SD card/download/ the cm 10 file.
What am I doing wrong? Thank you
Make sure the Rom is for our phone and check the md5 sum it might be a bad download
I've tried redownloading the file several times and I'm still getting the same error message.

Wrong version, endeavoru is the international (Tegra3) One X. Our phone is code named evita.
Just stick to the Development forum here, to avoid flashing ROMs for the wrong version of the One X:

If you flashed an international rom, there's a good possibility you messed something up. Factory reset, wipe /system, and try flashing the correct CM10 rom again.
Ok. I'm trying to do a factory reset from bootloader but whenever I do, it goes to the CM10 boot screen where I was earlier. How can I do a factory reset?

A guy I was working with had the boot screen splash. If you've flashed the correct one, then wipe your caches. if that doesn't work reflash.

Don't do it from bootloader, it can corrupt your sdcard. Do it from recovery.
Go into recovery, wipe cache, dalvik cache, factory reset and system. Then install the CORRECT rom.

I was able to get back into TWRP. There I tried to do a factory reset but it tells me it failed. And after installing CM10, do I have to go back into bootloader and flash boot.img from the CM10 nightly zip file?
And there goes my stock rom... Factory reset is not working on TWRP and tried system reset thinking it would get rid of CM10 but instead erased my stock rom.
Please help, need a working phone soon..

There are stickies and tuts around here for this.. but, the reason why it's not working for you is you didn't flash the boot.img first. before you installed the .zip. Also, you'll need the latest gapps for that ROM as well.
Not familiar with the forums around here, so if you could link me some of these stickies or tutorial it would be great.

Do you have a rom flashed? If so, wipe both caches and reboot. If that doesn't work, reflash and do a system wipe from TWRP.

Htc One S bricked
Hi im relatively new at rooting and am currently experiencing issues with a bricked device.
i have two htc one s devices
my personal one is running cm10 ville with clockwork touch recovery and is working perfectly
however the second one i was using the same exact files.
this one is bricked
its in a constant bootloop.
i can get back to my recovery just fine and get to the fastboot in the phone fine
i cleared my cache
wiped my data and wiped the dalvik cache all perfectly fine when i try to flash the cm10 official rom back on it cannot mount the sd card
i would try to install a different recovery and try again maybe using viper one s
but i cannot get the phone to power on
it doesnt showup on the computer when it is plugged in while in fastboot
when i try the cmd fastboot flash recovery it says waiting for device
any advice. this is not my own phone so i need it repaired pretty quickly.
any helpful information would be much appreciated.

Flash it, erase cache & and Dalvik...Blah blah blah. Flash boot.img in fastboot, and there you go.

Phone won't boot after new ROM flash

I would post this in the Android Development section, but as I am new I will post here till then.
I am installing the new Viper 2.0 ROM, and after installing the ROM and rebooting for the first time the white screen with the green htc logo pops up and then the screen goes black. I'm worried I have bricked my phone and was wondering if there was any way to get it back to its original state.
Using CWM and came from Viper 1.2 ROM. I have made a CWM backup of the Viper 1.2 ROM before flashing.

I flashed Viper One S 2.0 and everything works absolutely flawlessly
First of all, take TWRP instead of CWM. CWM hasn't been developed for the last six months. Then you have to do the following steps
1. Put Rom on SD card
2. Extract the Rom on your computer and put the boot.img in your fastboot folder
3. Boot into recovery
4. Wipe System
5. Instal Viper
6. Reboot into bootloader and flash boot.img with the command fastboot flash boot boot.img
7. Reboot again into recovery
8. Clean Cache and Dalvik
9. Boot into sytem and have fun with Viper One S 2.0:laugh:

I've tried that, I used cmd and the flash script both didnt work. It keeps trying to boot into recovery but just freezes.
Also another quick question: how long does it take to install the ROM? It takes less than a minute for the 'Reboot' button to appear yet it still says installing at the top of the screen.
Should I just keep waiting or has the install actually finished?
EDIT: it just says 'Executing Full Wipe' then it erases and formats the cache, system and data as EXT4

What do you mean by not work?
About a min but not used CWM in a long time because its buggy.
The time it takes to install a rom varies quite a lot. A dirty-flash (no wiping) seems to take a minute or two, but a full flash can take up to 5min.

Don't do a full wipe in the aroma menu. You did it before. The result would be that the installation is very fast but nothing is installed.
Boot your phone in the recovery, then wipe system, afterwards do a clean instal. In the aroma menu take the option Installation without wiping. The installation should now take a few minutes. And then follow my other points or take a good look in the op

[SOLVED] HELP PLease! Cannot go passed HTC ONE splash screen/ will not boot

I know you have seen this title a lot of times
I have looked for a thread that can help me with this but nothing helps...
Ok so here's what happened:
I had my HTC One X At&t version and everything was fine except i wasnt getting any updates. I was on version 1.73 so I decided to download the RUU for jellybean... it installed the new hboot 2.14 (the original one installed was 1.08). But the installation didnt go through after that.
Then I decided to download the other RUUs for Jellybean but some said that i wasnt charged enough even though i had 100% battery charge...
THEN I downloaded a stock deodexed image, Unlock the bootloader and installed TWRP and then flashed the stock deodexed image on my phone.
Now the phone will not go passed the HTC One splash screen :crying: I have tried wiping cache/ factory reset, and flashing the boot iimg from that deodexed zip
I can still get into fastboot and recovery i guess but not much after that! Can you guys please help me! This is the only phone I had ( just got rid of My nexus4)

Wipe all of those through fast boot, especially cache

Could you be more specific... I can't get into any type of recovery or even flash one...

Wait, you can't even fastboot flash the recovery (i.e. TWRP)?
No
It says:
(boot loader) signature checking....
Failed...
When I try to flash a recovery or boot image... Doesn't matter if its TWRP or stock
Your bootloader is locked. Unlock it.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
SOLVED
Alright so i fixed it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1891598
BAsically (Above post) is correct.
Here is what I did:
1) Unlock Bootloader
2) Flash TWRP 3.3.1
3)In TWRP, Wipe EVERYTHING (system, dalvik, cache, everything)
4) In TWRP mount as USB drive ( had to format it on Windows to be able to use it)
5) Move the ROM to your phone's storage
6)Wipe cache, dalvik cache, system, and factory reset (yes again)
7)Flash rom
From here on out i followed this thread's intructions because I was getting a bootloop: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293032
8)If your're s-off or on hboot 1.09 then you can reboot to system. If your're not s-off and have hboot 1.14 or greater go to step 9
9)Reboot to bootloader and select fastboot
10)Open the rom.zip and copy the boot.img to your fastboot directory.
11)Plug phone into computer and verify connection (make sure it says Fastboot USB)
12)Flash boot.img with this command: fastboot flash boot boot.img
13Now you can reboot to system and enjoy the rom.
Now I have a fully stock HTC ONE X (unlocked) on At&t ...with 4.1.1 >>> but these instructions should work for any ROM
Thanks again for your help and concerns!
Thats what I love about XDA, people help you and you learn!
