With smsbackup and restore i made a backup of my 12000 messages, but, when the app, after a clean install of jb rom, restore all the messages the sms app seems not to support them and ceash, any suggest?
I use SMS Backup and Restore a lot and it has worked fine always for me. But I've hardly 100 sms to move backup/restore.
- Go back to your nandroid and try different backup/restore app.
- Try checking a different SMS app to see if that crashes as well.
- Try looking at logcat and see if there is something you can do to avoid crash.
- Maybe 12000 is too many. Contact developer with logcat to check if he can help.
as your profile says you're using a paranoid rom.
in cm10 sms app there is a limitation of 500 sms per contact/thread. but you can deactivate this in settings.
i also have many messages which i always backup/restore on rom change and i tried different apps for this. main reason for sms app forceclosing was mostly the 500 sms limit so try to uncheck that box in settings of the sms app and restore them afterwards.
but i also think 12000 sms are little to many, i recommend you to sync them to your pc, save them and delete old messages on your device. you'll find many programms on google and your sms app will open and load faster a lot on your phone

I'm sick and tired of loosing my conversations whenever I want to flash a new ROM. I've heard there are ways around that, but I do not know any of them.
Try "SMS Backup & Restore" in the market. It allows you to save all your texts to your SD card and then reload them. And if you have any more questions, please direct them to the Q & A Section - this section is meant for development purposes.
Peace
I use Titanium Backup to backup my both messages and Handcent. When I restore those 2 things everything is back where I can use it for blackmail
I just wish dialer would back up too.

For dialer use Call Logs Backup & Restore, made by the same person who made the aforementioned SMS Backup & Restore.
Here is the SMS Backup/Restore - http://www.appbrain.com/app/sms-backup-restore/com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore
Call Log Backup/Restore - http://www.appbrain.com/app/call-logs-backup-restore/com.riteshsahu.CallLogBackupRestore
I have not tried call log backup, but if it's anything like SMS, then it won't disappoint

not true. i used titanium only backup programs, it didnt save messages for me. i learned that the hard way and lost all my messages.
use message backup to gmail, it saves all messages to ur gmail account under text label

u should definately use titanium backup for this.
sms backup and restore is so slow if u have lots of messages as it restores 1 message at a time.
another vote for SMS Backup & Restore. I use this for my text, my apps are backed up with appbrain (and a few I keep handy with ASTRO backup), and everything else is synced in the land of google.
why not just NAND before flashing. It should save your conversations(sms)...then flash the old rom. It does like that for me.

...what? If you restore a Nandroid you lose all of your current settings/ROM.
SMS Backup+ is great as well.

I use SMS Backup to backup my txt messages to my gmail account. It seems development on this app has ended but a new developer has created an app called SMS Backup+ with the same funcationality as SMS Backup plus the ability to restore the backed up conversations to your phone (though I have not tried this). He is also working on adding the ability to back up your MMS as well.
A second option is to install the latest version of Handcent. One can now create a Handcent account (on their website for free) which allows users to back up their messages and all their Handcent settings.
How can I save or backup text messages from the phone?
believe there is a way to send them all to your sd card if im not mistaken.
Go to Messages, then press menu and then press "Back Up SMS", change the file name if you want and then click OK. Done
not sure if what kevinliu said applies to all roms since ive only used arhd 3.6.X roms but this app is what i used during my htc hero days and its always worked perfectly
sms backup and restore
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore&hl=en
You can use the offical back up function as kevinliu2336 said, but this back up can not be read by human or other rom, it can only be restored in HTC sense based roms.
My solution? code.google.com/p/android-sms/downloads/list
But when I search for what I'm using, I find a better one market.android.com/details?id=com.zegoggles.smssync, I haven't verified this one, though
I use the backup function in GO SMS, it seems to be the fastest and has correct time stamps. I used SMS backup and restore but had incorrect dates.
GO sms is a good option, it has even automatic backup feature. I also sometimes use an app called "MyBackup" for sms/mms backup and restore. The "SMS Backup and Restore" app works as well more or less, but it mixed up the threads somehow for me, so some apps showed all messages in a conversation as incoming. Although it uses XML for the backup, so you can read the backups with other apps/tools.

The second choice, SMS backup+, I have tried, it is in fact a upgrade for the first one, they all back up you messages to your gmail, but with SMS backup+, you can also back up MMS and even call logs! And you can restore them in any device only if this app is installed and supported!
i have problem restoring old messages. I use SMS backup and restore app for SMS backup on my old HTC phone. App generate XML files as backup. I installed same application and tried to restore SMS but i dont get messages in Hangout, GO SMS and Handcent SMS. Any solution to restore old messages in messaging aplicaiton.

I have used that app with no problems. Are you getting an error when you restore the file? I've noticed if I try to transfer the xml file through google drive, it doesn't work. When I email it to myself though and download it as an attachment it works. Also, if you're having issues restoring you have to set SMS back up and restore as your default msging app, but when you are finished restoring you have to change it to whatever msging app you're using. Hangouts won't see your SMS msgs if its not the default app as well.

Thanks @PsychDrummer, I havent got any error message while restoring messages. App says restore successful and Hangout was default messaging app. I tried restoring messages by changing messagingg applicaiton but i dont see any old message in any application.
I have a lot of SMS that I have from running CM12 with the bundled SMS/MMS app, but now I want to use another rom and that thing comes with the google Messenger app. So does anyone know how to tranfser sms from one app to another, I can get the .db file from SMS/MMS but I don't know how I should go about importing it to messenger. Also I tried titanium backup but trying to restore the App + data just says restore and it never finishes restoring.
I've tried a google search, but there isn't very much to find. I guess people aren't as sentimental as I

The TiBu restore takes quite a long time. You need to set TiBu as your Messaging app (it should ask you to do this), otherwise you will keep getting pop-ups.
There is also an app called SMS Backup & Restore, which I have used several times to copy SMS/MMS from phone to phone.

I don't think it asked me to do that, anyway... so I didn't ill try restoring the ROM and giving it a shot again.

Apps themselfs has nothing to do with SMS/MMS storage. They just read them and show them up to you. If you are using TB, then backup in xml format, because if you do in regullary way you will have some force closes. Or you just use SMS Backup and Restore app from Play store.
EDIT: If you restore app + data you won't get your SMS back, because they are store somewhere else. Actually, when you restore an app, you will get just the app itself and settings off it. Also TB can't restore system app yet in Lollipop.

SMS Backup and Restore did not do MMS (group/picture messages) the last time I looked. TiBu does this nicely, MMS too, though it does take a long time as others stated above.
SMS Backup & Restore does MMS messages if you check that option in the settings.
Maybe someone knows which app does this:
Let's say I want an app that will automatically backup SMS of only the contacts I choose.
I'm always flashing new ROMs, restoring nandroid backups, etc. However, with my job I am constantly getting important text messages from my office. I wanna find an app that will allow me to select 3-4 particular contacts who's messages will always be automatically backed up...preferably by cloud. If not, that's not a deal breaker.
Please post the name of any SMS backup apps that you know should have this feature
Thanks!
