I just bought a anti glare screen protector for my g2 and it feels great but leaves a rainbow effect on the screen. It is kind of like when a droplet of water is on a tv screen, but much smaller; is this normal? Are there any anti glare screen protectors that don't leave this kind of effect? Thank you.
I also had a anti-glare screen protector, from clarivue.
But not a big fan of the rainbow effect.
The thing I like is that the screen doesn't get dirty that much.
Now I got the ultra clear from clarivue and it's perfect!
So the rainbow effect is normal. I guess I'll buy a clear SP. Thanks
I have had a really good experience with an anti-glare product from Boxwave called Clear Touch Anti-Glare. No bubbling, no glare, no fingerprints or visible dust, etc. Highly recommend it. Good luck.

Thanks, but the did it leave a grainy effect on the screen? The screen protector I use now does all that you listed, but has a grainy effect on the screen.
It's not "grainy," but it does have a slight textured effect. This gives the screen protector its 'anti-glare' quality. It does not, however, interfere with with touch sensitivity or visibility. I know there is also a Clear Touch Crystal screen protector by Boxwave which would not have any sort of texture or graininess to it whatsoever. But then you lose the anti-glare feature...

I'm used to the effect on the screen now. Thanks for the help.
I like to review accessories on XDA. After reading the rave reviews concerning Clarivue screen protectors I decided to contact them for a review unit. Alex from Clarivue was nice enough to send me one of their 4 way privacy screen protectors for the Nexus 4.
I have always been a fan of matte screen protectors. I have a Tech Armor Matte screen protector on my Nexus 7 and love it. I would rather sacrifice a little screen quality in order to avoid the hassles of screen glare and fingerprints. What I have learned over the years is that there is a big difference in price, quality and screen degradation between manufactures of matte screen protectors. With a price of $19.99 at www.clarivue.com the Clarivue LG GOOGLE NEXUS 4 4 WAY PRIVACY SCREEN PROTECTOR is far from the cheapest on the market. While many companies have yet to make accessories for the Nexus 4, history shows most of the competition will price around the $6.95-$11.95 range. So my question is what makes this screen protector worth the extra cost and should I buy a privacy protector over a standard anti-glare?
At first look this privacy screen protector resembles a regular matte finish. (Please see the picture below of my clarivue screen protector alongside my nexus 7 Tech Armor matte protector.) You can see it has multiple closed layers and it has a little bit of a rippled look when viewed with the screen off. My finger still moves smoothly over the surface. The finish has an anti-fingerprint layer helping to prevent smudges when you touch the screen. In a stark contrast to the $4.95 screen protectors, the Clarivue privacy protector comes with a clear protector for the rear of the device. In my opinion, this is a fantastic idea and I am surprised more manufactures have not adopted this. The combination of a privacy screen for the front and a clear screen for the back is only logical and still allows you to showcase the design on the rear of the Nexus 4. Packaging for the screen protectors was top notch. In addition to the attractive packaging from Clarivue, it was also placed in a bubble wrap package to insure it was not damaged in transit. Shipping time took 5 days via USPS.
The fit and finish of this protector set is amongst the best on the market. The film is actually the thickest I have ever experienced with a screen protector. Due to the curved edge of the Nexus 4’s screen, Clarivue was not able to build the screen protector from edge to edge. As a privacy screen protector it did lead to an interesting design flaw. When viewing the screen protector from the side, light actually slips around the sides of the screen protector. The anti-glare, anti-fingerprint layer works very well. Viewing angles were interesting. Please review the screen shot below. When viewed from a 45 degree angle the screen is still clearly visible and I was able to read the information clearly (First picture after up close screen shots). I have also posted images of an 80 degree angles. Please note that the screen information can still be seen. This was the same when viewed from the top and bottom as well. Another note is that with a privacy screen protector installed the notification light is very hard to view. Keep this in mind if you use this on a daily basis.
The screen degradation on the Nexus 4 with the Clarivue Privacy protector installed is substantial. I will be the first to admit that this is my first experience with a privacy screen protector. From my research I knew the protector would decrease clarity. I was not aware of the black lines that create a grid network across the screen. It does not lead to a pixilated look that can sometimes be present in matte screen protectors. It almost resembles looking at an extremely clear screen through a chain link fence. In comparison to a matte screen protector, the Clarivue privacy screen protector does cause a larger decrease in screen clarity and light passage. I have also noted a decrease in initial touch sensitivity with the screen protector installed. Initial touch will register at .50+ and scrolls will register as low as .34. I have noticed multiple missed presses after installing the protector. Despite the decrease in sensitivity I am actually impressed at how little it changed the normal responsiveness based on the thickness of the material.
Clarivue sells the Privacy Protector with a stated scratch resistant coating. In order to test this was wanted to see how the protector stood up against a set of keys. I performed the standard key to screen scratch test. I am shocked to say that the Clarivue screen protector performed FANTASTIC! Using light to moderate pressure I was only able to get one micro scratch what is not viewable with the screen on. Great job Clarivue! I would definitely trust this screen protector in a pocket or purse with keys and other objects. This is important when you think about the cost knowing that the screen protector will last for the foreseeable future.
In final, my impressions of the Clarivue Privacy Screen Protector are that it has top of the line quality and great packaging. The screen protector does not completely black out the screen when viewed from an angle, and it does cause a noticeable decrease in screen quality. Would I recommend this privacy screen protector for $19.99? No I would not. I am however considering getting their version of the matte screen protector. The ultra-clear back they sent me is beautiful, however it is a fingerprint magnet. I think that for $14.99 for two anti-glare protectors the quality is worth the cost. Clarivue was nice enough to provide us with a 10% discount code for reading this review. At checkout please use: ten2013. It is valid until 30 June 2013.
If you would like to purchase one of Clarivue’s Nexus 4 screen protectors you can do so at their website: http://www.clarivue.com. Additionally Clarivue has asked that if you like their products please “like” them on Facebook at: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Clarivue-Screen-Protectors/99840540072.
I hope this review has helped a few of you picking your screen protectors. This might help save a few bucks if you were wondering the benefit of a privacy screen protector vs matte. Please hit the thanks button if this helped. See the pics below and let me know if you have questions.

Do the other models, ie. the matte protector also only cover as much as this one and leaves the edges uncovered?

I think all the screen protectors have the same cut. The good part is that it does have the cut out for the proximity sensor. To be honest I don't think you will find a screen protector with a closer cut unless you go with a wet install.

For me the screen protector is nice and all. I got the anti glare one and the matte feels smooth. The screen protector didn't come with a proximity sensor cut out... Which I think is necessary so I emailed them about it. I don't like how the screen protector bubbles at the sides of the phone right before the curve part like mentioned by the op.
OP thanks for the review. I am a sucker for the anti glare protectors. Question for you though, I know I want the anti glare for the front but still want to be able to show off the back. How did the anti glare effect the look of the back of the phone. I emailed Alex to see if they could throw together a anti glare front and clear back for me but he suggested ordering two different sets.... don't think so at these prices! Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I ordered a set of 3 cheap anti-glare screen protectors from eBay, came in today and yes, the sides aren't probably going to be covered by any dry install screen protectors and anti-glare is great at fingerprints and glare but suck for degrading the screen quality.
Now, I don't know if I should take off the xtremeguards that I currently have and install the antiglare now.

From my understanding if you order the matte front it does come with a matte back in the set. I received the privacy protector which is paired with a clear back. So the one I have installed is clear and I can not comment on a matte protector on the back. I would say that I agree with you about the cost being to excessive to buy 2 separate protectors (matte front, clear back). The clear back looks nice however I still get a air bubble every once in a while in the center of the back. It is not from dust and I can easily squeeze it out. This is the first time I have experienced this before.
Alex asked me to send him feedback from the customers so they cold recommend improvements. I think they Clarivue should seriously consider making an option for a matte/clear set. I mean seriously, who wants a matte back with such a beautiful design?
Sorry I could not be more help. If I stumble across a pic of a matte back I will pm the link to you.

Awesome. Thanks for the reply. I'm sure there's a picture floating around somewhere out there but nothing like first hand experience ya know. Once again thanks for taking the time to do a review for everyone.
As for matte front/clear back....like I said alex didn't seem to think it was a reasonable request, blatantly telling me to order 2 separate sets. I had a word or two for him but I try not to let the small things in life bother me too much.

Well just to follow up, Clarivue is going to send me a new package that has the proximity sensor cut out at zero cost. Pretty good customer service I'd say.
Like many of you out there, I have been in the search for the perfect glass screen protector. I've tried two brands of glass screen protector, and two brands of soft screen protectors but I have not been happy with any yet. I've tried the JETech brand and also this other brand but both had halos on my white S6. I've also tried the Skinomi (wet-app, felt rubbery and was not self-healing) and also the amFilm (halo effect on the front but the back was nice compared to the Spigen back protector as it was longer and had better coverage).
What I want to figure out is if there are any relation to the color of the phone to the likeliness of halo effect because from the photos that I've seen on xda, it seems that more users with the black phones have had better luck with the halo effect issue.
Please vote and reply which which brand(s) you have tried and what was the outcome. Thanks.
Black & White S6's with No Halo using the Zagg Glass on both.

I have tried the amfilm and got halo on both sides, anybody tried nillkin? Not the one that is colored on sides. Thanks

Yeah I love their service. I've got one but I messed up the install and another one is on its way. Has some halo on this one buy as it's not on right I can't judge yet.
Zagg Glass on my S6 with zero haloing. I got it installed at a Zagg Kiosk so I made sure it was perfectly installed.
I have a Zagg also. I've had too many issues with cheap glass protectors, and just don't want the trouble.
I got this one last month. http://bit.ly/1KlN00v
and not for long, my phone fell from the table. Guess what happened? Screen just hit the corner of the dining chair. What surprised me was that the screen protector has many cracks but the phone was ok. After this, I got a new one. haha
This poll really should be broken down further. It's easy to get no halo if your glass screen protector doesn't cover the whole front of the phone. Those truncated protectors should never have halo. It's only the ones that try to cover edge-to-edge that should potentially have the halo.

That's the problem, I've only tried the truncated protectors and both still had halo issues. The purpose of this poll was to try and figure out if certain colored phones were more prone to the halo effect issue (maybe the screens had more curvature than others). I had seen many photos and it seemed (to me, at least) that the black phones had fewer halo issues.

Ah, I see.
These are German made hybrid screen protectors made of anti-shock plastic substrate and tempered glass. Have used them on a few other devices and they are excellent. Slightly pricey as they are German made but definitely worth checking out. Just ordered mine today. They also include a protector for the back in the package.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/332032300020?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
As of now, I've ordered a few screen protectors, the full coverage ones found on ebay, which seems to affect touch functionality and the cheaper standard tempered glass protectors.
Waiting for the FX Glass protectors to arrive. Will update when I receive it.
Do let me know when anyone already has these.
I ordered a "full cover" one with the black border. (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MQLV04B)
I does not look promising. Reviews say its only sticky around the edges, so sensitivity is an issue.
I can't understand why there are no standard style protectors available.
That hybrid one looks closest to them, and seems promising.
THINK this is just another ordinary "not full coverage" glass.

The hybrid as the name suggests is a hybrid between plastic and glass. This makes the film as flexible as a plastic film but the layer which you touch is glass, hence very high resistance to scratches. They claim 8H and I have bought their protector for another device earlier and I can say from experience that its great! And its German made! And apparently they have very positive reviews everywhere. I just happened to know about them recently, maybe because I used to buy those cheap 3-4dollar tempered glass films from China which would do the job and were usually as good as the more expensive ones for "flat" displays.
I still haven't received any of the screen protectors I've ordered for the mix. But from what users are saying on this forum, the full-coverage version with the black borders are pretty much unusable due to poor touch. And the regular tempered glass ones cover just the viewing area. But I guess this is already a very well known fact that its hard to find full coverage tempered glass protectors for 2.5D curved displays. Almost every screen protector which promise full coverage only has adhesives around those borders and the glass barely touches the display which causes a significant loss in touch functionality.
Even the Atfolix protector only covers the viewing area. But what makes them different from the cheap regular tempered glass is resistance to shock. Most regular tempered glass protectors crack during shock. But these being hybrids are more resistant to shocks.

As far as what I've read, it covers the bezel around the camera. But the protector is cut slightly smaller than the display glass meaning its not a full-coverage type protector. This is most likely done to ensure that the protector adheres properly to the 2.5D display glass.
So it does cover the bezel area but doesn't reach the rounded edges of the display. Hope this helps.
I have received a case and screen protector today and have uploaded pictures here. Have more cases coming in and will update as I receive them.
Hope you can also help by posting photos of the case and screen protector you are using in that thread. It will help other buyers.
Cheers!

Haven't received them yet. They shipped it via a slow shipping service called PostNL.
I can recommend this full coverage protector I got from ebay though.
No newton rings, no issues with touch and its a perfect fit.
Ebay Item: 172369729447
This is based on my own experience with the item. As long as you perfectly install the protector, you shouldn't have any issues at all.
I have already posted photos here with the protector applied. Check it out.
I wonder why isn't there a full screen glass cover for the mix. The screen is curve at the edges but manufacturers should be able to do this right?

There are full coverage protectors like the one I've recommended above. If you're referring to fully transparent full coverage protectors, I guess they dont make them because it shows those air gaps around the borders when applied to a 2.5D curved display like the one on the Mix. The ones with the black borders dont show this and are preferred by most users. Its better than seeing those ugly air gaps which arent uniform.
I did try that one you are referring to but I had to return it because of the rainbow effect and touch issues. ho well.

I guess there are a few variants of the screen protector coming from different factories. This is why I specifically mentioned the Ebay Item ID. I do not get any issues with this one. I ordered two of them. Had to dispose off one as I noticed some stubborn dust stuck under the first one.
Applied the second one now.
I can confirm that I don't see any newton rings (rainbow effects), no issues with touch functionality either. I didn't experience these issues with the first one either.
Ok. Good to hear, I would like to have an all clear instead of having black adages and bottom chin. If one exist.

Unfortunately a transparent full-coverage one doesn't exist due to the edge-less design. If you have used transparent tempered glass screen protectors on devices with 2.5D curved screens before, you may have noticed that the corners don't adhere to the screen causing a border of air to form around the protector.
This is the reason why full-coverage protectors have colored borders around the viewing area. It hides those ugly air gaps around the display.
There are transparent protectors available. The Atfolix Glass protector is a transparent one, higher quality than the regular Chinese tempered glass protectors. But it doesn't cover the whole display like all the other transparent protectors available for the Mix.
I understand that, but what I was saying is that they could make them without the black edges and leave it all crear.
Xiaomi's original tempered glass
I bought Xiaomi original tempered glass but now in the middle of my screen I have like an oily colored stain. Of course it's not oil but I think there is air between my screen and the tempered glass. Doesn't the tempered glass contain holes for the sound? I hope it's not my screen. But when I turn of my device I can see it too so I really think it's the tempered glass. Need a new one! Is it covering the active part of the display completely? If not you normally have a halo effect on the left and right side of the protector. With the Mix maybe on the top side too. If the product pictures are real it is not. But well, if it is i'll order one too. The fullscreen ones i've tested are crap.

I've tried the Raugee and the Imak protector. Both show the same effect. The problem is that these fullscreen protectors only stick on the edges. The air layer between the display glass and the protector causes this oily rainbow effect. Depending on the phones and the surroundings temperature it's more or less visible.

Hi guys
Yesterday i bought a new screen protector (ceramic screen protector, i guess its a mix of pmma and tpu) and now when the display is off i saw vertical lines (similar to rainbow effect) i cant put images because of xda forum rules. I would like to know if someone have the same issues

Yeah. That's always from the screen protector. But the only way to really make sure is to remove the screen protector and check. I stopped using tempered screens because of this reason. full adhesive screen protectors exist and don't give you this rainbow effect but they are quite rare.
Lucky for you, I'd like to share you want ended my quest for the perfect screen protector. It's this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07LFZR671/

They adhere to the screen perfectly like they don't exist at all, and they don't have that yucky cheap plastic film feeling to the touch. I swear they almost feel like there's no screen protector at all.
