2) Place it on to the sdcard you're using
3) Start up your PocketTV, go to the "Upgrade" app
4) Select the zip you just downloaded, and install it
5) Upon reboot, make sure to update both the su binary and Superuser.apk
6) If you wish to install busybox, there are apps on the Play Store

Cool as hell that you rooted it. But other than titanium backup, what else do you plan on doing with this ability? I have one as well, and I've been trying to figure out ways to get the ui to feel a bit smoother.

Hot root captivate 2.2

Anyone how to root a captivate 2.2 with no usb cable needed
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
Have you tried to e-mail yourself the correct root zip file? Or not e-mail, but just downloading the file directly from the forum to your phone?
Once you do that then it's simple.
2. check e-mail and download file to your device
3. rename file to update.zip
4. make sure file is in the root directoy. You can use My Files to move it there.
5. reboot into recovery by using one of the methods like 3 button or two button. Whatever works with your phone.
6. once in recovery, select reinstall packages
You should be rooted. You can look for the superuser app in your applications to confirm.

Agreed. All you really have to do is download the root update.zip.I have personally never had much success with the only click roots and have to do it manually whenever I need it. My latest strategy for getting clockwork on my phone is to just keep a copy of it in a folder. That way the only reason I need a computer is to flash back to stock

z4root option
z4root is an apk not on the market but just look for it on xda that roots the phone. z4root isnt that good though becuse its either you permentaly root the phone forever or temporory root the phone which if you turn the phone off it will remove the root and you would need to re root. BEST advice use the pc or mac 1 click root or unroot but it needs usb
sorry i suck at spelling
Z4root works, but since you can't install non-market apps, no apk will run off the phone. You need a usb cable and adb for the first shot.
The only non-usb way is with the update.zip file as mentioned above.

Yeah, I don't know that there is any guaranteed way without a PC unless you're staying on JF6 or something else with 2e, or using the modded 3e (and for that you'd still need a USB cable wouldn't you?), since the CWM update.zip won't work on 3e.
Awesome Drop the file to you phone. Works from any computer.
It says my signature verification failed. Do you have the correct update.zip file?

[Q] Superuser Force Closing

I just rooted my Inspire. I'm trying to flash a ROM for the first time using ROM Manager. It says I need CWM Recovery installed before continuing. But it is installed as far as I can tell, it is. There's a folder for it on the SD card. I tried using Flash ClockworkMod Recovery and it causes Superuser to force close.
I've search every string of words I can think of and none of the threads coming up are related to my issue. Fast Boot is off. Debugging is on. I'm new to flashing ROMs, so I'm sure it's something simple I'm missing, but it is REALLY pissing me off.
One of the threads did mention a superuser zip file needing to be in the root directory of the SD card. I don't see one in mine, so I won't be shocked if that's the problem. But then, it becomes a matter of finding where to download that zip.
Please help.

You need to reinstall su.
It's not letting me install it for whatever reason.
There is a certain irony that running "Fix Permissions" to solve the force close issue CAUSES Superuser to force close.
did you unzip the file? What rom are you running? Do have sdk?
I unzipped the file. Moved to the SD. Tried installing it from there. Yes, I have permissions set to install from non-market sources.
I'm running, presumably, the AT&T stock ROM, unless the Simple Root S-Off program installed something different.
Don't know the answer to the SDK question.
Have you tried to clear out the 'data' for 'Superuser' application under application settings?

As said try clearing data and cache.
If that doesn't work.
Uninstall su.
Download anrdoid SDK
Cope all the files from platform tools to tools
place su apk in tools folder
shift+right click on the tools folder, open command promp
use adb to push apk
Code:
adb devices( make sure it is connected)
adb remount
adb push ./(name of app) /system/app
Here's a possible reason I'm having a problem.
When I did the root, I used a spare SD card to make the gold card. I've been trying to flash a ROM with my regular SD card. Could that be what's causing it?

no, the gold card is only needed to downgrade the radio/rom and pass the CID check.
So here's where I'm at....
It won't let me install the superuser fix above.
It won't let me uninstall superuser.
I even purchased the pro version for the Market, hoping that it might install a version over the version flashed there and that doesn't force close every freaking time I try to do anything in ROM manager.
In the meantime, I miss about 50% of the texts, emails and notifications on my phone because, of course, I don't HEAR them. And the bloatware is bogging down the phone.
So, are there any suggestions before I walk outside and throw this phone into the Atlantic Ocean?

How To: Backup Your Apps, Data & Settings BEFORE You Root/Change ROMs on Your Device!

How To: Backup Your Apps, Data & Settings BEFORE You Root/Change ROMs on Your Device!
I recently rooted my Evo 4G and since I had been using it for a while didn't want to lose all of my settings and data and didn't want to sit for hours installing apps and trying to set them each up the way I had them beforehand. None of the root guides that I've found seem to cover this critical first step before they get into the process of rooting the device. So a lot of people root and flash a new ROM and then realize all of their stuff is gone. So, here's how to back everything up before you root or change ROMs:
1) Locate/Download/Install Z4Root to your device. (It appears as though it was removed from the market due to people using it to get temp root in order to use hot spot tethers. The apk can be found in a thread on this forum here)
2) Install Titanium Backup from the market (I recommend the full version because it makes the restore process a one touch option whereas the free one requires you to click 'Install' and then 'confirm' for each individual app which can be a royal PITA if you have lots of apps)
3) Install 'Root Check' from the market
4) Launch Z4 and use to gain temporary root access of your device. Use Root Check to make sure you indeed do have root access.
5) Launch Titanium Backup and grant superuser permissions where necessary
6) Click the center option at the top of the screen after Titanium checks all possible scenarios. Scroll through the options and find the option (usually has the highest number on the right... or real close to it) that backs up all your apps + system data and settings. Allow it to complete this process which can take a bit.
7) Once this is complete back out of Titanium Backup and reboot your device. This will remove the temporary root access from the device. When the device has settled run Root Check one last time to make sure don't have root access.
8) Proceed with your favorite root/ROM process & enjoy not having to waste hours setting up your phone again the way you had it. When you recover make sure you chose the option to recover all missing apps and all data/settings because if you choose to recover ALL apps you can run into issues with the apps it tries to override.
Now, sometimes there are minor issues from ROM to ROM or device to device when you backup from one platform and then recover on another but for the most part it will save you a LOT of time. You can also try a reboot or two after you recover which can help with some settings that don't show up immediately after a recover. I did this before rooting my Evo 4G and it worked flawlessly.
Thanks and hopefully that helps.
Cool. I never thought about backing up while in temp root. Good find.

Should be fine as it's still just app data. I haven't personally tested it to confirm though so proceed at your own risk.

i cant c y u would have to unroot, it shouldnt matter as apps dont care if it is rooted or unrooted, correction some apps u have to b rooted to work properly.
do u actually get an error message when trying to install an app
the only way is to restore back to stock, or if u just rooted ur stock firmware, meaning u didnt flash a rom, u can try flashing the system.img file, that might work but i never heard of any1 doing that
Yes, application refuses to work telling me that "rooted" phones are not supported. So basically it installs, checks if phone is rooted and refuses to proceed. I hoped I can flash something in CMW to temporarely unroot, then run application, let it do it one time thing (I need to run this application only once successfully) and then I root back in CWM again.

dont think there is a temporary unroot method, going back to stock was the true method to unrooting, which app were u trying to install.
u can trying going back to stock, installing app, let it do its thing, backup with tibu or some other backup, reroot and then restore backup of app.....maybe wont work as restoring a backup is actually reinstalling the app
edit: try this i havent so try at ur own risk http://www.thespicygadgematics.com/2012/06/how-to-easily-unroot-any-android-phone.html it seems easy enough, i didnt think it was possible but it seems to b

Using root explorer or ES File Explorer, mount system as r/w, delete /system/app/Superuser.apk, /system/bin/su or /system/xbin/su (it will be in one of those two places), and then reboot. done.

thats deleting the app the rooted the phone, but does it actually undo the rooting process, the system files the app changed to make it rooted r still there, the way to check is if u do delete su app, c if root explorer can can mount ur system folder to r/w, or op can c if it the app does install after deleting su.
actually u need su to grant su, so that might not b a good test

The superuser cwm zip installs su and superuser.apk, that's it. There are no other modified apps.
You can remove busy box also if you like, but it's not much use without su.

kool. i learn something everyday
There is cool app in Playstore (free) which allows rooting/unrooting with no reboots and other complicated steps
FYI
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...51bGwsMSwxLDMsImV1LmNoYWluZmlyZS5zdXBlcnN1Il0
Voodoo OTA can do a temp unroot as well. The Flixter app will not allow you to stream movis on a rooted phone. I used Voodoo to temp unroot then went back into Flixter and it started to play the movie.
I use an app called Temp root remover
It allows you to temporarly unroot and reroot in a matter of seconds

[GUIDE][VZW edition] GOOGLE WALLET EZ

So for many people getting the galaxy S3 on verizon, you are without the praised app, google wallet. You can only get it on sprint. However, like many people who tinker, people have found ways to get it to work on their GS3's. I just got my phone yesterday. Had it rooted and romed in less then an hour of owning it of course. Then I set fourth onto getting google wallet to work.
Here is the problem I ran into. There are so many ways of doing it, and some don't always work. and it gets confusing. I went back to the beginning and worked out a way that works, and it is more simple.
First thing that I found. You do not have to mess with build properties at all. That was a pain.
Step 1: Reboot into recovery.
Step 2: Mount system
Step 3: Push the latest com.google.apps(ETC) file to system/app. For instance I used "com.google.android.apps.walletnfcrel.modaco.1.5-R79-v5.apk" because that was the latest I could find.
Step 4: Push nfcee_access.xml to /system/etc which I will include as a download on this thread.
Step 5: Reboot and run wallet. it will work.
Once you have pushed the nfcee_access.xml file, which give the app appropriate permission to work, when ever you have to update with a newer com.google.app(etc) file, all you have to do is this.
Stepv1: Using root explorer or other root file manager, copy the new com app file to system/app
Step 2: Copy the name of the existing file that is already in there then delete it.
Step 3: rename the new com app file to the old file.
Step 4: Reboot into recovery.
Step 5: Reboot normally.
The new version will now work.
You could very easily make a bat file to do this for you, but we are talking 2 adb commands.
I hope this helps other new S3 owners and people who have not yet tried to get google wallet working.

No it wont, this will only work on AOSP based roms. OP should note that, my guide has the information but I havent updated it in a while.
OP would you like to take over my work? Or merge information to one post we dont need two posts on a mod.
This is by far the easiest method for installing Wallet: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1810040
Use the automated script and it's as simple as... Setting script to edit, rebooting into flash, flashing the zip, rebooting, configuring wallet to your liking, setting script to stock.
It takes minutes maybe. Also, when flashing new roms, I just make a backup of wallet+app data in titanium, set script to edit, reboot, restore wallet from titanium and make sure it's configured, set script to stock and reboot.
