May have just bricked my phone - HTC One S

So I've been using the stock rom but I'm unlocked and rooted. I was thinking of waiting it out for the official jelly bean release but I know how slow HTC is so I decided to try out CM10 today.
I downloaded the newest CM10 mod (nightlies) and flashed it. Upon rebooting I ended up in an endless loop at the boot image. I thought, 'hmm, perhaps not so bad. Maybe I need to look up trying out a new kernel'. I never got around to this and upon doing some other idiotic things (clearing all data, reformatting the SD card), I am realizing I'm stuck. I can't reinstall anything because there's nothing on the SD card. I also can't mount because there seems to be a problem with Team Win's Recovery (2.1.7) in that I get this error: unable to mount /sdcard
Then it says "unable to open ums lunfile..."
So, I'm stuck with an empty SD and seemingly no way to mount. I am able to boot into recovery but I don't know what to do from that point.
Can anyone think of a way to get this phone back on its feet?
And once that is done, is there a clear cut tutorial on how to correctly install CM10?

I had the same problem. You have to extract the boot image from the CM10 zip, and flash that through the SDK.

But didn't I ruin that possibility by formatting the SD? I can't seem to find anything on the SD

I know I don't need to say this, but you need to read a lot through the forum before doing anything to your phone. Also, read the OP pages and first/last 20 pages of any thread. The OP or many posts would have mentioned you need to flash boot.img separate if your hboot is .13 or higher. Or, you can get Flash Image GUI from Market. I would also get a newer TWRP. Recommend 2.2.2.0. There are threads on TWRP/Flash Image GUI.
Some things to look into and read up on before trying:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1630459
If that works, maybe push "adb" a rom zip to card
And maybe run an ruu if you get sdcard fixed
As soon as possible get and keep rom and sdcard backups on pc as well as rom bu's on phone.
There may also be a stock sdcard card back up floating around or maybe someone has one to post. There was a thread with one but link is dead. Had the basic stuff the phone came with.
There are some programs that can retrieve data from formatted/wiped drives. May be of some help.
Not sure what else to suggest--you are not lost and someone smarter than me will get you working--good luck--

I have had my sd card corrupt before. There is a thread that talks about how you can re flash the original HTC recovery through fast boot. Then do a factory reset through the bootloader and it will reformat your sd card through a proprietary HTC process. There is a thread about this somewhere. I think you can find the original recovery on MoDaCo (Google it) and somewhere in his posts on rooting. Let me know if you can't find the threads on this.

Ah, thank you guys so much. I figured it out using this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1630459

glad you got it--that was my first link if you used it--

I did! Thanked your post.
I now have a working version of CM10 with a few bugs which I will have to look into.
They are: Device doesn't recognize the SD card. Apps like Dropbox, the Camera, etc. aren't working because they need to save to the SD. I'm guessing that the file structure is just a little off on the device but I'm having trouble with this because I also can't seem to mount my device properly (I can still push things via ADB)

You best off running a RUU and then reset in bootloader if its still not working.

I'm new to this whole thing so I'm not exactly sure what that means

I am not really up on them, you can google/search. RUU=Rom Upgrade Utility. But, they are like the latest OS from your carrier with radio and everything. You need to relock bootloader and "maybe" flash stock recovery prior to running them. They do not flash thru recovery, you just run the ruu while phone is connected to pc and phone is booted into OS. There is a thread in Dev Section on different ruu downloads. Need to make sure you get correct one. Not sure that will repopulate your sdcard. Assume it is still empty? I was trying to pair down a stock sdcard backup I made before/right after rooting and remove my personal stuff. If you are still having issues, maybe I can upload to dropbox and post. May take a few days--very busy. Plenty of posts on ruu's throughout forum also--

rugmankc has it right and is the only sure thing to get you SD back.

Okay, just to clarify before trying this out. This will undo everything I just did so that I'll be back on stock? I'll have to unlock and root it and install the CM10 rom again?

yes--backup whatever you can first, if anything

Just to add to this, there is no need to root if you going to flash a rom after flashing TWRP.

How to restore stock rom TMOUS

So I S-OFF'ed than read some suggestion to delete the data/bin folder. I think I may have deleted the system/bin and well it won't boot anymore.. Choosing to restore the phone loads into CWM which requires something to flash.
Does anyone know what I should do to go back to stock? Thanks
download this with windows and run it. not sure if it will result in s on or not though.

Run it where? It doesn't boot.. Just shows the HTC screen.
ah assumed your pc would still recognize it. your next option is to hope usb mounting is supported in cwm and if it does pull the rom from the ruu on your pc and mount the phone to pc in cw. rename the rom PB99IMG then copy to sd and let hboot do the rest. google extract rom from ruu if you dont know how to get the rom out of the ruu. it's pretty simple.
* i haven't done either of these methods so if something goes wrong don't blame me. i'm honestly just throwing out options that should work in theory.
CWR supports it. I used it already to copy files when in Recovery mode.
EDIT: Got it working. USB transfer corrupted it the first time I guess. Working now it seems. Thanks
guess i struck out lol. hopefully someone is nice enough to build a stock rooted deodexed cw flashable zip soon.

[Q] Completely Boned - Solved: Was not SuperCID

So I can't figure out how to fix this, and have a completely useless phone at the moment, unfortunately.
I wanted to install Virtuous Inquisition. I was coming from ARHD 4.1.10 Gingerbread. This is the process I followed:
1. Downloaded Firmware and ROM from website.
2. Loaded both onto SDCard
3. Rebooted into recovery, PG58IMG did it's work.
4. Formatted / Wiped all Data
5. Installed Virtuous Inquisition
At this point I was thrown into a continuous boot loop. Read up on the forums, apparently Virtuous is only tested for CWM.
Tried installing CWM - downloaded the zip, renamed it PG58IMG.zip, tossed it onto the phone, gets stuck at "Parsing," and fails.
Tried reinstalling firmware again - Creates error "Wrong CID"
Tried installing CWM from the 1st post of the Sensation Rooting Thread, said "Wrong Version."
Completely confused as to how to fix my phone now.
Please, PLEASE help.
Thanks XDA.
Delete all pg58img.zip from SD card, try to reboot and post result.
Leaving the firmware zip in SD root after update causes boot loops.

Unfortunately I still get the boot loops -
I get the Virtuous Boot Animation, then it just kills itself.
OK does fastboot work?

Try the virtuous 2.23 thread. It's a 2.3.4 Rom but it comes with its own firmware. See if that boots up before trying anything else.

Unfortunately I'm rather unfamiliar with this term - if you mean can I get into the bootloader, yes, and I can get into 4EXT.
I vaguely remember when rooting my phone that I had to connect it to the computer to do some adb things, but have not tried / done that since.
Currently I have a spare SDCard, and am trying the entire process over real quick, then going to try TC's idea.
Update: Loading the Firmware again still gave me the "CID Incorrect!" error in the bootloader.
Update 2:

Going to that thread points you to the Virtuous Site - 2.2.0 Rom is Listed, but the Firmware is not bundled. Trying it anyway right now.

First and foremost, did you do a nandroid backup before you did any of this? If so just revert back.
Next, in step 3, you said you booted into recovery to flash the PG58IMG. You plain can't do that. All firmware updates are done through the bootloader not recovery.
And you also mentioned, wrong CID. Do you recall ever doing a superCID on your phone? If not, read through http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767 to get the correct firmware. IF you go there for the firmware (I suggest 3.24), you do not need superCID on your phone.
GL
Sorry, wrong wording, I did originally do the PG58IMG through Bootloader.
Quite, *quite* stupidly, I only did a Titanium backup, not a nandroid backup.
I have not done SuperCID on my phone.
Working on multiple options you guys have posted at the moment, y'all type too fast for my SDCard switching speeds!
As a side question at the moment, the Virtuous website mentioned that it has only tested through CWM. I was under the impression that 4EXT, while a different interface, behaved and functioned no differently than CWM. I may be wrong on this, but either way, I cannot get CWM to take control. It won't flash in the bootloader (gets stuck at "Parsing") and installing a Zip of it through 4EXT opens it, but does not make it the primary Recovery method
Update: The T-Mobile specific firmware is successfully installing at the moment. Will remind self to SuperCID ASAP :/
While talking earlier about nandroid backups, I was curious - I thought nandroid only backed up certain things, IE: Not the firmware. Am I incorrect?
Update 2: The Virtuous Boot animation has gotten far enough for the V to begin pulsing. It has never gotten this far. I think it may actually be going through the "initial" boot up sequence. May take a few minutes.

I use 4ext for my recovery and works just as well. Just use the firmware in that thread I mentioned. That thread is a great one to read up on. Especially for people who are new to CID terminologies.

The only thing Nandroids do not back up are radios, SD stuff, kernels, firmware and RIL files. The RIL and Radio's are bundled in the rom itself. So essentially the nandroid backs up the ROM itself. Hope that makes sense.
Hope its working now? My thought was the problem was firmware you flashed originally not supported by your CID = boot loop.
SupwrCID def recommended!

Correct, you were on the right track. I have not done SuperCID, so when I installed the Firmware straight from Virtuous, it wasn't T-Mo specific.

[Q] Bricked my phone!!!! :(

Hi everyone,
yesterday I wanted to load a custom ICS rom on my HTC Sensation XE. I did S-off the phone, got root access. I downloaded the firmware, rom, and a super wipe zip file for the new rom. Put them all on my sd card and flashed them.
After I flashed the wipe file and the rom the phone was booting up and couldn't go further than boot screen, so I tried several times, wiped the phone and etc.
After few times trying when i went to the recovery, it gave me a message to update and I said yes! I think I shouldn't cause after that it tried to update something in recovery and it failed, system reboot and phone shut down.
since then i can't even turn on the phone!!!! I've got battery charged nearly 80% so the problem is not the battery. Can any of you guys please help me?
So to clarify, it wont start when you press Vol down and Power on at the same time?
No nothing happens!!! like i can't do anything with it or even make it work to a point that I can restore my backed up firmware etc...
device manager detects it though, but cant install the driver....

Yeah it soundslikeyou have Becker it some how. You may want to check out this thread, that is if you want to Teutonic do it yourself. But be warned I annotated 100% sure this will work on your Sensation. The other option is to try for warranty exchange or find someone to JTAG your Sensation. I can put you in touch with someone that can JTAG it if all else fails and you don't mind sending your phone off for a two or three days.

Most probably you didn't delete the PG58IMG (firmware) from sd card after flashing firmware. So each time you reboot into bootloader it asks to update in a never ending loop.
Delete any PG58IMG from sd card and reboot bootloader then go to recovery and flash the rom.
Also, what rom you were trying to flash and what firmware? what is the version of your Hboot? 1.27?
Hope it helps

yes true, i had the zip file on the sdcard and when it booted up the last time, it asked me to update and I selected yes (and I think I shouldn't) since then I cant turn on the device at all. I just took the sdcard out and deleted the PG58IMG.zip file but still nothing happened!
I was trying to flash revolution HD rom 6.6.1 if i'm not mistaken. is there any way that I can check the version of my HBOOT now? cause I'm not sure if it was 1.27 or not (as far as I remember, it was)
Pull out and reinsert the battery?
Power on while keeping pressed volume down + power button doesn't work? It should bring you to the bootloader.
It doesnt matter if you updated twice or three times the same PG58IMG. It is important that it was the right one.
All bootloader flashable zips are named PG58IMG but the content might be different (firmware, recoveries, spashscreen and even full roms etc etc).
Also, did you install a custom recovery or not? it is necessary to have a custom recovery to flash any custom rom

How can the OP do this, the device will not even turn on to boot into fastboot or the bootloader therefore the instructions in the thread you linked are pretty much useless to the OP. It seems that the OP has hard bricked the device somehow, maybe fried the processor Blythe back to back flashes or fried the NAND memory with the back to back flashes, who really knows at this point. But right now my money is on JTAG or replacing the mainboard willbe the only fix.

i was in similar situation with my friends phone last week, after 3 days of searching and reading i finally followed that thread and now the sensation is running ordroid 2.1 rom. the buttons on the phone got disabled somehow. had to manually install drivers in device manager, like he mentioned that comp detects the phone. so before giving up adb/sdk is worth a try atleast in my case it was.

HTC Thunderbolt Issues - Stuck at HTC Logo... Recovery not working, etc...

here is my issue.
2 weeks ago, i rooted my phone. all was well. flashed CWM Recovery 5.0.2.1 for my Thunderbolt. I made a backup just before i rooted so that in case ANYTHING went wrong, it would unroot me and fix any problems. So, here i am, backing up apps with Titanium Backup, and it backed up fine. The next thing i did was start to uninstall HTC Bloatware... I knew which ones were the ones i could remove, plus even if i removed the wrong one, i could just restore using my image backup. After removal, the phone instantly ran better. i had over 65% free memory space... This was all well and good, until i rebooted the phone. the instant i rebooted my phone, i was getting the flashing HTC Quietly Brilliant screen. i had done NOTHING to it to cause this. It would alternate from HTC splash to Thunderbolt animation.
So, knowing what was wrong, (UI not loading) i went to recover my image from CWM. that went fine. but things just got worse. After a successful recovery (according to CWM) i rebooted, but to my surprise, now its worse. its stuck at the HTC boot logo. ALL MANNER OF ROMS DO NOT WORK!!! recoveries, new OS, anything, all the same result. AT LEAST with the thunderstick full blown ROM, i can get back to the looping splash screen, but not any further. i DONT KNOW what is wrong but i am hoping one of you mad phone geniuses out there can get my phone working. i tried getting s-off with revolutionary, but it failed because the phone has to be booted up for it to work, and is something i obviously cant do at this point... relocking the phone made things worse too because i unlocked using the HTCdev method.
This is not a boot loop, as it doesnt loop. it just sits there. i have tried every available resource on this, and other sites. i must have read over 1,000 posts in the past week to try and gather what the devil happened to my phone... If its any help, i did accidently delete the settings storage APK file, but a restore should have fixed that. i want to lock up the phone to send it in for repair but i cant gain s-off to flash a new radio with the phone in its current state. i know how to do all if these things but the phone wont let me.

any RUU downloads that would have been available on multiupload.com are disabled and redirects to to "the internet vs., holywood". besides, as i said, any attempt to flash any rom no matter what it is fails. Well, technically it FLASHES ok, but doesnt actually work. as far as i know, the phone has 2 bootloaders in any given android phone. There is the primary HTC Bootloader (Hboot) and a secondary ROM UI Bootloader. (Android Boot) i think what has happened is that this part has become corrupted and i wanted to know how to access this and reformat that. supposedly you cant because its partitioned, and formatting the partitions would fix my issue. problem is that i have done all of this. to answer the second reply, yes, i can get the phone to be recognized in any mode as long as its fastboot, or recovery. Fastboot.exe works, and adb recognizes it in recovery as being IN recovery mode. unfortunately, with my device still locked, i cannot flash a new bootloader, which might solve my problem. this is not like any issue currently on XDA so far as i read, so this is why i created a new thread.
I am sure the Moderators will agree that my problem seems to be unique. After reading what seems to be hundreds of forums, i cannot solve the issue. While technically i am a newbie here, i am no stranger to modding phones. i have been at it for over 4 years now. THIS problem is absolutely a first for me. At least before i could restore using CWM, but even that failed. i checked my MD5 Sum for CWM backup and it checked out.
If someone can provide me a link to an ORIGINAL, unmodded, RUU that shipped with the phone, (PRE OTA 2012) that ISNT that stupid file-factory corrupted crap, i would be extremely indebted to that person. last time i used File-factory, it took THREE hours and the download was corrupted according to CWM. it refused to flash the phone even though Chrome said it completely downloaded (Error: Bad - Installation Aborted). There was no MD5 SUM to compare with so thats also another problem. i absolutely need that info to properly flash the phone. All the other ROMS i downloaded like TSGB and Lightning Rom technically flashed fine after a full wipe, but refused to go past their own "Open Mobile" splash screen.
So you see, i am at a loss with this phone, as all i did was reboot after rooting it, and nothing i did could have possibly caused this kind of failure...

If this works, i will be forever grateful. and something that mere Custom ROMS wont do, is repair any boot issues and lock up my phone again right? i hope at least it fixes the issue.

ok. so the download finished fine so far as i know, but now CWM says ITS bad too. i will try again but i cant seem to flash any stock rom no matter if its OTA or pre-OTA from CWM. is there a way to flash a rom from the PC via adb or something?
Ohh! They're not flashed through CWM. They're flashed through hboot. Just rename it to PG05IMG.zip and put on SD card and boot to hboot it will ask you to flash
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
i will try that. previous hboot flashes always fail. it reads the archive, but never goes to "checking zip". it loads, checks, and then parses. i was successful with my evo shift earlier today, but that thing is ancient compared to my thunderbolt. With the Shift, i was able to gain root AND s-off with an old bootloader and i dont even need a new one.
i wanted to do the same with my bootloader in case another disaster hits because then i can flash whatever RUU i want with s-off. i will make sure the MD5 SUM matches before flashing. i forgot to do that anyhow.
Hboot flash failed. went through the motions of scanning it and it scanned the whole thing and then did nothing. it returned me to Boot Choices. Like Fastboot, recovery, etc... i tried twice. are you absolutely certain that is the shipping firmware that formats the entire phone, and not just updates it? i cant send it to verizon even though they know it was illegal to lock up my phone... Anyhow, i realy need this thing working and i have racked my brain enough to damage it already... lol. if it fails again i will try to redownload it. So far it loads and does NOT ask me to start the update. could be a version issue because it does not complain about anything else.
Have you tried following the instructions in the return to stock thread in the android development section stickies? This may help you.

yes i have. i cannot do what it asks because it requires my phone to be functional to flash it using hboot. i need a signed copy of an older RUU. hboot doesnt do anything with it. its a valid copy, and i can see all the images and contents in windows and linux, but all i can get hboot to do is read it, then it doesnt ask me to update. i dont know what to do now.
I believe there is a ruu image without hoot download there.

ok well i will literally try ALL of the signed images. i will see if hboot will update it.
If your hboot is flashed with revolutionary I believe you have to unlock it before anything thing else can be flashed over that. Hboot or emmc could be corrupted as well.

How i fixed my tbolt stuck at the white HTC screen
I had this exact same problem literally yesterday (stuck at HTC screen) with some different cwm symptoms. I'm guessing my cwm was corrupted because the phone would reboot after about 30 seconds being in cwm, preventing me from flashing any roms. oh, and my backup image was corrupted as well. awesome. Flashing other CWMs did not fix the CWM problem.
Your problem sounds similar in the fact the CWM won't flash properly. You're trying to fix it by trying to flash a rom in HBOOT that isn't configured to be flashed that way. for example, i put the skyraider rom (named properly) in the root folder and tried to flash with HBOOT. it scanned and parsed but didn't give me the option to flash.
What I did was go here and grab a stock like image:
androidforums.com/thunderbolt-all-things-root/418539-thunderbolt-root-unroot-thread.html
(won't let me make a link, i'm too new)
Go to the "Putting current stock firmware and s-on back onto the phone" section.
Download file 1 and flash it using HBOOT. I had to pull my sd card to get the file on there since cwm was crashing. Only flash that rom and nothing else. It flashed for me; if it doesn't flash for you then maybe your HBOOT is corrupted, and if so i don't know if you can fix it.
Once that flashes, reboot the phone and it should return to some level of functionality. You'll have S-off but no recovery or root tools installed. I ran revolutionary at this point, which recognized i already had S-off...then it offered to load CWM. This i did. in the meantime i deleted the unrooted image and put the image of the rom i wanted on the sd card. i then booted into recovery(it won't flash in HBOOT) and loaded that rom (skyraider zeus). That worked fine and the cwm didn't crash out.
I hope this works for you. I was getting ready to fire back up my OG droid before i did this.

I have read that post you provided probably 100 times its not working for me. flashing a custom rom actually got me past the HTC white screen and into a splash screen loop (Open Mobile). Also, I havent even been able to use the REV tool because my phone is not recognized by it without it being fully functional. you have to be fully booted up for the REV tool to use adb and start the process. thats why i need a signed copy of an older ROM with hboot flashing capability so i can fully restore my phone. i am 100% sure its a corruption issue, but i am out of clues as to how to actually get it to flash over while being s-on. with the evo shift it worked perfectly. it only took me 20 minutes to root, s-off and flash a custom rom. this phone has been a thorn in my side ever since i accepted that STUPID FOTA... i regret not knowing before hand what that OTA was and what it prevented. Now i know, too little / too late.
without s-off, i cant unlock hboot to flash it, and the fastboot mw whatever command failed also because its locked tight.

thats what i thought. is there a way to change out that eMMC, or remove it to format it manually? i mean based on the description, its technically external which implies removable.
Yes you can format emmc I do not know if this will solve your problem. You wipe abd format through adb but need to see if it is being mounted first.

too bad i cannot repartition it to allow for more RAM instead of app space. i dont care about app space because i have a 32gb card... lol. i just want that phone to be faster than what it is currently once i finally get it running.

bricked one x

So earlier i attempted to do the 2.2 root.
i managed to get as far as rooting, installing superuser and CWM
now, the problem is when i went to flash the rom, i tried to run the super wipe, but was getting errors about the sdcard not being able to be mounted. and the wipe was not performed/failed/aborted etc
i tried to run flash the rom still, it loaded, but still gave an error at the end and did not work.
reboot the phone, and i get the HTS quietly brilliant screen with red text that says"this build is for development purposes only...." and from here it does nothing but constantly reboot to this screen.
i am able to get to the bootloader screen, and fastboot works.
ive tried factory resetting the phone, as well as using the CWM recovery. i am unable to do any. as the CWM cannot write to e:\sd card
its not mounted, and i cannot mount it, when i try to reformat the sd card, it says it is unmounted.
mount usb storage was not working either, and said files were missing.
i read on other threads about needing the sd card reformatted, but the one x has an internal card.
please help
i feel like it can be fixed, but im really worried my phone is bricked
eta: i tried to revert to the stock ruu, but i think i should have read it more clearly.
so i guess i flashed the ruu that was NOT 2.2
now my CWM is gone, and i can only get onto the bootloader and fast boot
under fastboot devices my device's serial does show up
ETA: i reflashed with twrp, managed to wipe my sdcard, and am now able to mount.
from here my phone is still not able to boot up.
i can attempt to run the super wipe, but am still getting an error
"E:error in /sdcard"

so from mounting
im trying to install the Android Revolution HD 9.7.2 Ice Cream Sandwich
it allows me to choose settings, and such and start install.
after starting install, it goes through the files and such, but when it gets to /system/lib/ it just closes on itself, and goes back to twrp screen and recovery home. the rom never finishes installing. right now im gonna re-download the rom and see if that works.
if i cannot install the custom rom, how can i go back to stock exactly?
do i need to find the stock ruu?
fixed it.
turns out im stupid and was using a rom not compatible with this phone.
i flashed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1907324 so far, and it seems to be working
however, i prefer something closer to stock. can anyone suggest a rom?
hopefully you aren't using cwm anymore and flashed twrp for the evita.

I knew what you did the second I saw the words "Android Revolution", as that ROM does not exist for our phone.
Stick to the ROMs listed in our section of the forum (AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL) in "Android Development" and "Original Android Devepment" here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1538
Or just use my handy index, which is an organized list of all our ROMs and mods:

I didn't even have to use the search function. 2 are near the top of General. The remaining has slipped past the first page, but its still pretty high up there.
People who flash a ROM for the international version are simply neglecting to do any basic reading and learning before flashing things willy-nilly, that's my point.
thanks for the help guys. i flashed viper xl yesterday night right after, loving it thus far. i was just so used to the sense keyboard already, and hated the cramped jb keyboard, and this rom has simple little tweaks
i did read, but i guess not thoroughly enough. in hindsight, i wasnt aware that the one x was different than the xl, its fairly easy to miss that the other roms are not compatible with this phone. and is completely different alltogether.
if i had known that, i wouldnt have flashed cwm, and would not have need to post a help thread. all "solutions" i attempted on my own were based off readings of the hox, rather than the evita, once again causing more problems. it was easily enough fixed once i figured that bit of information out.
i am a noob, but this phone is not my first time rooting, so with my prior knowledge i felt i was more than ready to tackle this rom flashing, im sure plenty of others will make the same mistake as i did.
the other phones ive rooted and flashed had their one model of phone only, so all the roms available were compatible.
im just glad my phone is not bricked, and i now have root access

From what others are saying, the newer hboot that came with 2.20 is write protected. Hboot can't be overwritten by flashing a ROM for the international One X. ROM just fails to flash, and you get a recoverable condition like this one, as opposed to hard bricks on the older hboot.
Yea, at least there's one good thing that came with the dreaded update
