Hello,
I'm truly hoping someone can help me. I spent all night installing new roms on my phone. Ok let me back up. This is bout the tenth phone I've rooted. I rooted my blaze about 2 months ago using a one step(I think can't remember.) I never really installed a custom Rom until last night. The first Rom I installed was cm10, which I liked. Only problem was I couldn't mount my sd card because I am no where near a computer. So I decided to install the baked Rom. I was ecstatic to find that everything worked. However, the cm10 Rom seemed to be running at the same time. I found that very weird. So I tried to figure out a way to get the cm10 off my phone. For hours I tried wiping and reformatting different things from recovery. My problem is the last time I rebooted my blaze out wouldn't go past the Samsung screen. I've tried all combos of the volume up down and power key and it never goes past Samsung. I'm assuming I've bricked my. It will show the battery charging screen. 1st it'll show the stock screen then the baked screen for charging. Please help me. I've searched xda for help and can't find anything to help.
Ps. I'm not at a computer now but please list help for when I'm able to get to one. And yes I've only gotten about 3hrs of sleep in the last 20hrs from messing with my phone.
Sorry for posting in development first meant to post here.
Odin to stock uvlh5. From sammobile.com/firmware
Edited... because I speak without thinking
^ what he means is download the stock ICS ulvh5 firmware from sammobile.com/firmware for the blaze/sgh-t769 and flash it on Odin.

Thats why I have the sammobile firmware and odin on a backed up. I've tried to learn from my mistakes well that's what I have learned a lot here hahahaha
Oh i remember reading you are not around a PC a lot... you need a PC for ODIN sounds like you can't get into recovery so PC only other way I know of. If I helped push thanks

Or this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1591601 . If your soft bricked you need to go back to gingerbread. Than upgrade accordingly ICS than jelly whatever. Hope works out for you

Ok so I just got me a New samsung showcase. It came with 2.2 installed build number sch-i500.ee25. Ok so i find out about rooting and all this so i start researching all about it. Here is where i am. I rooted with SuperOneClick. Worked fine. I installed ROM manager to get the clockworkmod but it did not work so I used Odin to install clockworkmod. That worked fine. So at this point I decided i need to backup the stock ROM. I try this using ROM manager but no go. it reboots into clockworkmod and gives me the sd card not mounted stuff. So I read and read and read but i can't seam to find a solution to this problem. I know there other people that have had this problem. I have read through the step by step guides and i really see nothing on this. Anyone have any type of solution.
Running on stock 2.2 rom manager doesnt work. You will need to go into cwm by turning off phone, holding power, vol up and down at same time. after samsung blinks 2nd time let go of buttons and you will boot into recovery.
Thank you. I thought I tried that before but I guess i did something wrong. Worked that time. Now if my memory is correct from reading that will not back up two things. The kernel and something else. How do I back up the kernel? Or am I just not thinking correctly cause I have not had enough sleep.

First, Welcome!
Second, Download and familiarize yourself with a program called Odin. This phone is hard to brick. From nearly every situation you can flash back to stock with Odin.
Third, Showcase files are not common. Send me a PM and ill give you my email address. I can better help over email.

What will scare newbies off is when they start flashing crazy **** for another phone in the Phone box in ODIN or something and can't fix it by just ODIN'ing like you guys are suggesting.

Same phone
I have the exact same phone as you. I just rooted my phone for the first time yesterday and I am having trouble installing CWM. Can you explain to me how you used Odin to flash CWM. And after you flash CWM, is it possible to revert back to stock recovery? If so how?
OK, So first of all, I would like to say thank you in advance for all of your help. This has been a very informative site and I have been a daily reader here. I have learn alot, and then I think, wow, what if.....
So, here is my delema,, I tried to update with Kies mini and after a few minutes I got a message on Kies and my phone;
Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again.
So I follow the instructions, which say to remove the battery, replace the battery, hold volume + and _ while pwring up. And I still get the error message. Samsung cant even help....
My phone has never been rooted and is bone stock with exceptions to a few apps. I did unmount the sd card first....
SO PLEASE, any and all help will be greatly appreciated. I have read all I can find, but find nothing to pertain a unrecoverable phone ?
Can anyone help me?
Thanks again,
Frank

Thank you for the reply. I have followed all of qkster post on this thread. I thought for sure I could get it recovered this way. But, I still can not get into dwnld mode and nothing I seem to do works
Have you tried
Take out batt
plug in USB cable to phone and pc or try another usb port on your PC..
Hold volume buttons both
And pop in batt
Should see this..

Frank give us an update when you can ok :thumbdown:
First off, make sure to thank bigjoe (thanks button);this phone is pretty much unbrickable so no worries there. If you where bone stock before the update then you probably need gingerbread bootloaders for qkster's one click to work (pretty sure bootloaders aren't selected by default).
You can either retry the links Joe posted and select to also flash bootloaders or...
You can give this a shot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116251
It will take you back to stock froyo unrooted etc. From there you can try Kies again (make sure when you plug the phone in to select "Kies Firmware" option). I used this method last week to flash the update. Kies can be tempermental sometimes but you've got a lot of unbrick options at your disposal. Let us know how it goes.
I finally got a screen other than the error message. I had a choice, vol- or vol+ to continue. I chose + to upload a custom ROM or whatever it actually said, other than cancel, I had to plug in USB and hold + and - while inserting the battery.
I installed the USB cable to a different port. ,so now I have the android digging and underneath it says downloading do not unplug. BUT nothing is happening. A very small piece of a progress bar is showing up, but nothing is happening. Wait, the progress bar is moving a smidge. Let me get back to ya'll on this.
BTW, I cant click on the thanks button, there is no button to click but I will check that again as well.
Thank you
bigjoe2675 and xIC-MACIx,
I just want to say thank you guys for all your help and patience. I finally got the phone back with odin and am currently again trying the update with Kies mini. I will let ya'll know what happens with that.
I tried to find a thank you button but have not seen it? Am I overlooking it? I will look again, but a big THANK YOU to you both. And I am now rebooting after updating from Kies. Sooooo, I will update after awhile and let you know how its going.

Yw but I would not use kies mho
BigJoe
Well, I did get the update and got everything back in working order. However, I did use Kies? I see that you say you wouldn't. May I ask why? or is it just because Kies is so flaky?
My ultamate goal here is to flash AEON, but I am not sure about doing it before my Samsung warrenty is up. I have read over and over through this forum and have decided that AEON is the one for me. As far as I can remember reading, Everything works and I would prefer it to be as such.
Any opinion or comments ?
Thanks again BigJoe,

Like the others said this phone i nearly impossible to brick
odin and heimdall are your good friends for this phone (and other galaxy/samsung devices)
So no need to panic just be sure to read up before making any major moves
and you should just be fine
hope everything went well and have fun flashing!!
once you flash one... you have to flash them all lol
jk but it it gets addicting
I've been a regular visitor on XDA. I am a semi-newbie at this point as I have flashed several ROM's successfully so that's my definition of a semi-newbi . I made some newbie mistakes this time around and soft bricked my Nfuse. It took a lot of reading but I managed to resolve the issue. I have appreciated the detailed posts on this site so I wanted to contribute and detail how I unbricked my Nfuse to help others.
I successfully loaded ICS CM9 for Infuse and spent the afternoon setting up all my apps. At the end of it all I decided it was time to back up the ROM via the ROM Manager app like I had done with GB. So I kicked off the backup and then it boot looped a few times and then it would only boot to CWM. I can't tell if doing this caused it or it not (anyone know if a ROM Manager backup should have worked here?)
I decided to start over so I began the Heimdall 'Stock_SGH_I997_UCLB3_Repartition-One-Click.jar' to get back to GB Rom. In the middle of the flash, it barfed and the phone disconnected from USB. Booted the phone and it was now in a state with the phone and computer icons with a yellow triangle ! in-between. I was now in a state where I could not boot to Download Mode.
More research and I found out about Adam Outler's Heimdall 'One Click Unbrick' and it brought it back to life. I was then able to get back into download mode, flash back to stock ('Stock_SGH_I997_UCLB3_Repartition-One-Click.jar' & 'SGH_I997 Entropy Test Kernel-One-Click.jar') from Entropy and got into GB. Then followed up with the CM9 ICS install using 'update-cm-9.0.0-RC0-infuse4g-05272012-UNOFFICIAL-signed.zip' and 'gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip'.
So I am back to ICS (and love it!). I just wanted to express my thanks for all the work others have done to provide us with these tools. I had already ordered a JIG from eBAY and was going to have to wait for it to be delivered to see if it would get me into download mode. I thought I was in a hard brick at one point as I found conflicting posts about what a hard brick really is. I now know a hard brick is dead as a doornail so I was in a soft brick situation. I was also considering sending the phone to be JTAG repaired for $40 but I am happy it was a soft brick.
In any case, my phone is resurrected and I am happy and I hope this post helps others.

You're welcome, Tai.
from the op:
1. To cleanly install the latest ATT Infuse UCLB3 Gingerbread leak. No hassle One-Click. Then enjoy the lastest leak of Infuse GB.
2. To Restore your phone to factory state.
3. To Restore your phone from boot loops, Samsung Logo, Soft Brick - non-hardware related failures from bad flashes, borked partitions or mismatch voodoo partitions. (I suspect many users will use it for this purpose)
Scenario #1: Oh, gosh! I would love to have the latest GB leak from AT&T! How to I do that? What in the world is Odin? Ain't it some mythological Norse deity?
Heimdall 1 click - done!
Scenario #2: I think I did something to my phone. It's not working right. My wifi is dropping like a leaky faucet. My Market is not working. I hate my phone! I wish it was like factory.
Heimdall 1 click - done!
Scenario #3: Oh crap! I just #@#% in my pants! I bricked my phone. OMG!!! I'm stuck on SAMSUNG logo! I'm boot looping! I lost recovery! Help me!!!
Heimdall 1 click - done.
Rom Manager Backups and CM9 ICS
This might be a dumb question.... In my post above, does anyone know if using Rom Manager to perform a ROM Backup on ICS CM9 5/27/2012 build would or could cause the boot loop/soft brick? It probably is a coincidence but now I am not sure I want to try it again.

Rom Manager Backup
Ah, never mind, just found it in the Nfuse CM9 ICS Rom thread. It does cause a boot loop: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26648460&postcount=1090

I know you already found the answer, but do not use from manager. Do you backups from the nandroid in recovery only. From mgr will definitely give you issues.

Thanks for the input on this. I was about to research the best method for backup.
For backup of just the sdcard and all my photos and other personal files I've been using the Samba app. My PC has a mapped drive to the Samba share on the phone which is \sdcard. I use an inexpensive app on my PC called GoodSync and it checks every 10 min for the share and if it sees it after I enable Samba, it auto replicates all files to a folder on my PC. Not good for OS recovery but works well for personal data.

Thanks, I looked everywhere for the answer to that question.
Now that i recovered from a failed flash, I feel a bit more confident in replacing ROM's when I want to change the flavor.
I've read that these Samsung phones are really good for recovering from screw ups unlike other brands so i am glad I have the Infuse (but I have my eye on the new Galaxy III S).
I was trying to update my mom's Infuse to ICS, then all of a sudden this (attached) happened. Heimdall had just given me the libusb.dll error (I needed to update the bootloader cause I kept getting rainbows in CWM), so I was unplugging the phone so I could get the right drivers.
I have a horrible feeling I did something very wrong. I can't imagine why what I was doing would have caused this though, since the cmd had gone back to a default state after giving the error.
Is there any way to fix this?? Thanks a ton in advance!

can you get it into download mode...?
if so run the one click again and you might have to check the box for bootloaders, on the second run...meaning I would run it twice...
It does that immediately on power up. Doesn't even get to the Samsung screen. Odin will recognize the phone, but when I try to flash a return to stock package (which I used earlier perfectly fine), it says the md5 is invalid.
Like I said, I never even got to the point of installing the bootloader since I forgot about the drivers. Are you saying I should install the drivers and try to flash the bootloader again?
Thanks so much for the help! I've never had this much trouble with a phone before
EDIT: I'm a dumbass. since I couldn't see the screen, I forgot to press up again after entering download mode. Odin is now in the process of installing the aforementioned return to stock package. And I think it worked!
You have no idea how grateful I am of you for pointing that out! I feel kind of dumb for not trying it, but when the screen looked like that I could only assume there was no functionality!
THANKS AGAIN! Times a million!
Lol ok let us know when you get it up and running....kk

What EXACTLY gave you the idea to put your mother's phone on a ROM that half works and has many bugs? Just trying to understand... I could have done this to my friend's mom's atrix, but I didn't because the stock ROM will always have the least bugs for unpopular devices like ours. (ones that don't get official support for CM or AKOP or anything)

the op has the options to put what he wants, and actually if you have been tracking the ICS/CM9/AOKP threads they have made leaps in the smashing of bugs....actually very stable and good to go now, seeing how just months ago we didn't even have any ver of ICS, and yes it takes homework to install..
and you kept stock on your friends Mommy phone well that was between you and him and Mommy...
so long story short....as far as unpopular, I see this device being sold and for a high demand on CL and Ebay...with all the support given here...that is my IMHO...as is yours

First of all, every once in a while, she asks me if there are any updates yet.
Second, there's only a short list of insignificant bugs mentioned in the ICS topics.
I flashed GB on it a while back, and I figured since CWM and everything was set up already I wouldn't have a problem; flash, reboot, flash again, done. Unfortunately, it wasn't flashing the second time for whatever reason, and I figured it had something to do with the now half-functional CWM.
Anyway, to those of you who weren't unreasonably judging me, and rather decided to help: Thank you, the phone is now back up and running!

Sooo....
Been reading, researching and studying for a little more than two weeks now on rooting my S3, flashing roms, kernels, etc. Most of the 2 weeks my S3 has been rooted. I felt brave enough early on to do that, but only worked up the courage to flash my first rom this morning. Using the guide found here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709
...I flashed the newly updated "SynergyROM VZW S3 | JB 4.1.1 | Multiwindow | PDroid | 1-10-13 r169" and to my delight it worked like a charm! For most of the day today I've been learning the ins and outs of my new rom and loving it!
This evening I decided that due to my success I'd give flashing a kernel a try. I apparently should've quit while I was ahead. I found this kernel : "SGS3-VZW-kernel-jb-cm-u-10312012" I followed the above mentioned guide again and followed all of the instructions up through step 6. I unzipped the kernel, and prior to rebooting I was unexpectedly asked a question about if I wanted to restore the stock recovery (if I remember it correctly). I chose the "go back" option (to see if I could just reboot without worrying about that question) in CWM and my S3 rebooted itself at that point.
Unfortunately the reboot process got through the quick glimpse of "Samsung", then the "Galaxy S3" screen then went black and that was it. I waited a while, removed the battery to be sure it was off and tried starting up again. Same result. I've tried rebooting into recovery (vol down/ home/power) but it just shows me the same two screens and goes black, never going into recovery and never taking me to the download screen.
I decided to plug the S3 into my computer to see if I could see it in Windows Explorer (I couldn't) but I fired up Odin and it is showing that it recognizes the S3 is plugged in in the ID:COM box.
Should I attempt flashing the stock rom through Odin even though I can't get the S3 into the download screen and even though it seems the kernel is what caused my problem? Or does it not really matter at this point....is it hard bricked? I survived a soft brick last week so I have the stock rom all ready to go, but I don't want to just try Odin'ing it in without the advice of those more schooled in this than I am.
I'm not a complete idiot. My device is a Verizon Galaxy S3, I535. I've been very careful about choosing the correct roms and kernels for my device....at least I thought I had.
Any suggestions and/or advice? Perhaps I should blow the dust off my Droid X to use until I send the GS3 out for JTAG repair. Heh.
Thanks in advance from a very humbled Noob.
Well did you try to put it in download mode not recovery but download
I don't believe it's hard bricked i think you can get past this of you did put it in download mode and Odin sees it i would push the ROM

I think you flashed the kernel for cm, and not for touchwiz.

This is an AOSP kernel. You only flash kernels if they match your rom. Synergy is a TouchWiz rom, so you would only flash a kernel if it states it's for TouchWiz. CM =CyanogenMod, an AOSP rom. AOSP = Android Open Source Project. Basically, AOSP is stock Android but on phones that don't ship with stock Android like a Nexus device.

Yes, Odin flash a stock image then re-rooted and unlock your bootloader again. Just like what the other folks have said above. "Fool me once..." as the saying goes.

Get him SlimSnoop.
So reflashing the stock rom will in essence erase the AOSP kernel? It won't still be there to continue to cause problems after I Odin in the stock rom?
I'm getting an education now! Thanks so much for the continued help!

Odin flash will reset everything to factory settings. You'll just have to reroot and unlock once again.
Edit: Since I re-read your post. Volume down, home, and power will take you to download mode. This still works correct?
SlimSnoop you are turning what was a rather bummer of a night around! One final question before I push the start button in Odin...
I can flash the stock rom even though my S3 doesn't appear to be in dowload mode? (although the ID:COM box shows that Odin sees my phone)
Thanks again!

What do you mean it "doesn't appear to be in download mode"? When you pull the battery/reinsert then hold volume down, power, and home for like ten seconds, what does it do? Do you get the prompt to to boot into download mode?

Don't hit no button if not in download mode.
Nevermind...my bad. Now my noobness is really starting to show. I had tried putting it into download when I first realized there was a problem, but apparently did something wrong. It worked this time, the stock rom is flashed and all is well.
Now, all that remains to be seen is whether or not this little adventure has scared me into being satisfied with my stock GS3 or if I go back to tinkering.
I truly thank you guys for holding my hand and getting me through this! Much obliged!
