Try to flashed gapps here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1974032
No need to modify the RC8 gapps zip.. the google now from there is somehow broken.
Go to your /system/app directory and look for either quicksearchbox.apk or velvet.apk and remove it.
Might also take a look at /data/app since it was recently updated in the play store.
Now reinstall it, either from the play store or other gapps.

Hi everyone,
I downloaded the extracted .apk from latest Google Android release 2.3.4
The .apk is atached below.
I have had no success in installing the app on my 2.3.3 ROM on my Samsung Galaxy S. I tried pushing it to /system/app via Root Explorer, but once you try to install package it just doesn't install by saying "Aplication not installed".
Im no dev or whatsoever,so I would encourage anyone who could help to make it work on 2.3.3, Google stated in Google Mobile Blog that Google Talk with Video Chat will be for 2.3+ devices, so it "should" work on 2.3.3.
Any help is appreciated! Share your thoughts!
Try pushing it into system/app and then change permissions. Reboot and post result.

Its not any different than the latest on the market?
Attach the .odex file here as well. However, can you link me to the place you took the file from? I might need the entire framework to deodex it

I doubt that it will work until you upgrade the OS version to 2.3.4, it might be integrated with os changes.

That was my first thought too, but after downloading the entire update it looks like that might not be the case. There aren't a ton of changes in there, and only two updated system apps. One of which is gtalk, the other is an nfc app(for supported devices obviously). I haven't looked through anything else yet(I'm slacking off enough at work as it is), but it would appear the changes are minimal.
Edit: found a new libtalk_ini.so file in /system/lib/
That may help? Anybody have time to try?
I really wish I knew how to do this stuff. I would love to give it a try but I'm so lost! Time to do some reading! LOL
The manifest for this apk says the target and minimum sdk version is 10, which is 2.3.3....so there's a good chance that after some deodexing and supporting files this will work no problemo
That's the key. It should work on 2.3+ as stated by Google, so I think i'ts up to deodexing and adding the proper files. Sure someone experienced can do it

Generally, yes.
I got it to run, but I can't tell how to start a video chat. I pushed the apk, and odex file to the system/app directory and the jnk.so file to the system lib directory. Ran Talk and it opened fine...
HTC Hero with Cyanogen 7.0.2
Btw, its very possibly its simply running the standard install of Talk.apk instead of Talk2.apk... I'll try removing the Talk.apk...
-- Confirmed. I removed the Talk.apk from the system/app/ folder... lost my Talk icon in the launcher. Rebooting; maybe it will showup after reboot.
-- Ok, now I'm not completely convinced that you can get rid of Talk.apk when you push Talk2.apk. They both may have to be there.

It's an apk, you should open and install it. Not sure how it worked with cwm for you.
First of all why does this apk name end by 1 while all others end by 2?
Second thing is that I couldn't install it.
I've tried the normal installation, but it tells me it wasn't installed.
I also tried to manually move it to both /system/app and /sdcard/system/app, but it doesn't appear in the apps list.
How on Earth do I have to do it?
*Update*
OK I found out that for some reason the Rocket ROM v22 old Market apk was called Phonesky.apk (OK...) so I only needed to rename it and replace it with the new APK by using then the same name.
While I was going into the Android Market, the new Play Store kicked in and it got installaled into my phone.
I shared it for who hasn't received it yet
What changed?

The new Google Play 3.4.6 is obsolete already!
Google Play 3.4.7 was released earlier this afternoon. I've attached the new version but for reason I can't always upload my files although they're within the guidelines. Go figure.
Enjoy lads

I wrote a quick workaround for panorama view crashing in cm9 and possibly other ICS roms. Would post to dev forum but I'm not allowed (gotta get my thanks meter to 10). Push to /system/app and install.
Also if anybody could cross-post to the cm9 dev thread it would be appreciated.

I tried this on the Abduction 2.0 ICS rom and the camera kept Fc after it was installed, but I'm not sure I did it correctly. Does this apk replace the existing camera.apk? In other words, do I rename the existing apk (e.g., camera.bak), and then install the new apk? When you say "push," do you mean move the new file to the system/app folder? It did work on the CM9 rom. Thanks for the great work.

I've really only tried it in CM9, and I think if you get the latest camera drivers from MongooseHelix you won't need it. All I did was protect against a null pointer error in the app because the camera drivers were returning null when it wasn't expected.
But yes, you need to put it in /system/app (with Root explorer, adb, etc) and open it.
Force closes on Sabsa Prime 7. :/

You could try it, the worst it could do is FC the camera app until you restore your backup of the original - but like the OP says, it was a fix that was made unnecessary even in ICS by changes to the camera driver by MongooseHelix (of the Evervolv team), so those changes are almost certainly already included in JB or have been made unecessary by other changes.
Edit: If you do choose to try this, there is no Camera.apk in JB, it's called Gallery2.apk.

Yes, I have found two and both work on the Skyrocket. One has a more "blue-theme" to it (Camblue NuBlue).. almost too much, but to each their own. Do NOT try to flash these zips... they are written for the EVO and Galaxy Nexus. Download the zips and EXTRACT the "Phonesky.apk". Then rename/move/delete the current PlayStore (Market) files. If they have self updated, go to /data/app and look for "com.android.vending-1.apk" (or for gmail, "com.google.android.gm-1.apk") and rename/move/delete. Then go to /system/app and rename/move/delete current Phonesky.apk (or Gmail.apk). Now, copy the new "Phonesky.apk" (or Gmail.apk) to /system, fix permissions (via Root Explorer) to rw.r.r, then MOVE from /system to /system/app. Reboot. That's it.
RUJELUS22 (EVO version)
http://www.rujelus22.com/evo/m/index.php
CAMBLUE (Samsung Galaxy Nexus version, "NuBlue Theme")
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1835836
Again.. DO NOT FLASH THESE. Extract the Phonesky.apk and Gmail.apk, then proceed. I've been running both on/off for a while and absolutely no problems. Hope that helps.
Note: both also have Gmail 4.1.2 Inverted as well. In this case, I prefer Camblue's version.
PlayStore just updated again! 3.8.17 just over wrote my blue-theme inverted 3.8.16. I'll post links when either Rujelus22 or Camblue complete their inverted PlayStore 3.8.17 updates.
Install instructions for Skyrocket in my post (#2) above.
