get your old android market - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

HELLO I AM NEW TO XDA BUT HAVE AFIVE YEAR EXPERIANCE IN ANDROID
hey guys want ur old android market which was fast and nice4 follow my steps [working on any device 100% garanteed]
1 root your device
2 freeze market updater through titanium backup [you can find it in google play]
3 download this apk and install [given below]
4 now reboot ur device u can see the old market in your app drawer
hit tanks to me this is the only way to get ur old market

'Force close' on reboot. I've tried a lot of market fixes these last few days, in an attempt to get back my old google market, 'cos I despise the new one. I've tried numerous older versions; v2.3.4, v2.3.6, v1.2.0, separate market and updater apk's, writing permissions, changing ownership, freezing marketupdater, etc etc ETC. On my HTC Desire (MIUI Rom), they either wouldn't take, and would crash on reboot, or would get updated and automatically replaced by Play store, or, like yours, would Force Close all over the place when I rebooted.
The only one that worked, is "OldMarket_v1.1.3.apk". That's because it's not just an old market apk... it installs an old market apk. And even has a mechanism to allow you to switch back to the new one with a click. No need to mess about with terminal, permissions, ownership rights, root explorer, pushing, pulling or tearing your hair out I downloaded files with it, rebooted a couple of times, it still stuck and worked beautifully. And it's a permanent fix, won't update. There you go.
NO, DO NOT HIT THE THANKS BUTTON TO THANK ME! DON'T EVEN THANK ME, DON'T CARE!
If this works as well for you as it did for me, thank member "lojak29". He's the one who posted this here 6 months ago!:laugh:

[Rom Add-On] Clean & Stable Add-On For All Stock Firmware V4[21/07/11][New Market]
Please Do Not post this elsewhere
This will not work on newbie5 modded stock rom
Hi All.
I have made this rom add-on to try to keep the device as clean and stable as possible. I could add custom boot screens, launcher (like launcher pro) and much more, but I have only added the essentials. As i think everyone has different tastes and the extras are easily installed. I have chosen to use the software tool which is part of the stock firmware, this insures easy installation on any os. No usb recovery drivers or clockwork mod needed!
V4 Rom Add-On includes:
Market (New)
Google Talk
SuperUser
3D Gallery
Google Calendar
Visionary
YouTube App
(removed titanium backup due to size restraint, can be installed through market)
V4 can be installed over the top of V3, titanium backup will remain
V3 Rom Add-On includes:
Market (Old)[Full]
SuperUser
3D Gallery
Google Calendar
Visionary
Titanium BackUp
YouTube App
If you cannot sync contacts or calendar. Please use this fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12385012&postcount=131
I have updated the rom add-on now so if you use the version with -1 at the end, it contains the fix.
Optional .ZIP's
Small Taskbar (For Advent v1.09 and v1.10 firmware only)
Gmail
Contacts
Google Maps can be downloaded from the market
I highly recommend launcher pro, its available from the market. It is a lot better than the stock launcher, and the payed for version has some great widgets.
Button savior, also available from the market. Is also for me a must for the vega, it adds the missing buttons as on-screen buttons.
This V3 update is more of a clean up. There was a lot of confusion over the multiple .rar parts and some compatibility issues with v1.10 POV firmware. I have now removed the small taskbar and added it as a update, so now my rom add-on is fully compatible with the pov firmwares and does not require multiple .rars. Advent firmware users who want the small taskbar, simply flash the Small_Taskbar.zip. If you have already installed my v2 version there is no need to update, as i said its more of a clean up. There are a few added apps, but they are easily installed.
Install Instructions:
1 - Download the .zip you wish to flash. Copy the .zip to "software update" on your SDcard.
2 - Navigate to settings/software tool/software update on vega, and touch the .zip
3 - Device will reboot and a "out of a box" android will appear and install the parts.
You will not lose any of your apps/data from this process.
Please make sure you have sufficient power to apply Add-On, i would recommend 50%
Root Instructions:
Root is required for some apps. Eg Button savior requires this for it to function fully.
1 - Open visionary
2 - Touch "Temproot now" the screen will go blank for a few seconds and return to the visionary page. Then click it again. (i have no idea why it is required to do this twice, but in my experience it is necessary)
3 - Touch "Attempt Permroot now" After a few seconds a super user prompt will appear, allow the prompt. Then device will reboot and it should be rooted.
If Flash does not work, navigate to /etc/shuttle_data and run the flash.apk. That will reinstall the included flash version.
If all apps are not showing in the market please follow ice-mn tip. Many thanks to him for this.

Since there are several post discussing this I have opened this thread instead answering the same on all of them.
To get all apps (at least all I have looked for ) you only have to follow the steps described.
1. Go to Manage Applications (in settings/applications)
2. Press the running tab and select market (if market is not running execute it)
3. Select Market from running apps. And:
Press Clear Cache
Press Force Stop
4. Go back and Select Google Services Framework. And:
Press Clear Data (answer ok on the message warning)
Press Force Stop
5. Try to run Market. You will get an error message.
6. Reboot the device and run market twice (the first one you will get the error message again).

Glad you find it useful. i hope to update it soon with a complete package (Flash etc), i just need some where to host it.

Hi All.
I have been playing with the market enabler (thanks to demonknight9). I have added the small taskbar framework to the update. so now you can have the market and small taskbar on a stock v1.08 vega. More gmail apps can be downloaded from the market. As demonknight9 says its very easy to install. No need for CWM.
1 - Download market_update0.zip file and put on storage card.
2 - Navigate to settings/software tool/software update, and navigate to location of market_update0.zip.
3 - Run the market_update0.zip
4 - Device will reboot and install the parts.
You will not lose any of your apps/data from this process.
It looks like flashing things to are vegas is easy, can be done from the software update. The zip is unsigned. More things can be added but i thought i would keep it simple to start with.
Hope its useful
I have made one with flash, spare parts and superuser as well, but it is larger than i can upload to xda dev. if anybody has somewhere i can upload i would be gratefull.
EDIT:I have added the flash.apk to enable flash, visionary to fully root the device and spare parts to disable compatibility mode for games to the attachments.

Good idea to add the bits. Why don't you upload it to fileape? Easy peasy to open an account. Just chose a username and a pass, no email, no confirmation just a plane doddle. go here; www.fileape.com
Upload it to mediafire, you dont even need to register an account to use it
How long does the market updater take, my vega been hanging for about 10 minutes, is this normal?

Thats very odd. I have re-flashed 4 different versions in the last 10 mins with no problems. Try to hold the power button down for six seconds to totally shut down. Plug the device into the power. Then try a reboot. If that does not work then you are going to have to go into recovery and re-flash the stock rom. Sounds like the flash got interrupted for some reason.

[MOD] Hulu: Flash 11 modded to work UPDATED 11/26/2011

UPDATED 11/26/2011
Ok so here is flash 11 which works with hulu by tricking it that the flash player is a desktop version. This mod is 100% the work of Vgeezy from thrive forums. i am just reposting it here.
Instructions:
1) Download the apk
2) Uninstall flash on the transformer
3) Install apk
4) Set user agent in browser to desktop (open browser-setting-advanced-user agent string- desktop)
5) Go to www.hulu.com and enjoy!
If these instructions dont work try this: (Credit Cowballz69)
1) Set flash to always on on the browser
2) Disable pictures to make sure you boot original flash in market (browser-settings-advanced-uncheck display pictures)
3) Play any flash video with original flash app
4) Uninstall flash from market
5) Install modded flash.apk
6) play any hulu video now
If your flash settings are set to on demand u must scroll down and click the green arrow on the right next to "share this video" to enable the flash. otherwise u can keep flash on always on in settings. (i hate flash ads so i keep on on-demand)
For a frame rate boost u can go to browser-settings-advanced-and uncheck load images (thanks cowballz69)
also if u want an easier ui to access vids some ppl prefer http://www.hulu.com/widget/player but i think that is better suited for smaller phone screen
if u are having problems and it doesn't work make sure you have the new 10.3 installed from market, install the modded apk over top of that then uninstall Flash again and then install the modded apk. (Thanks MonsterAndroid)
No luck here. Maybe I'm doin it wrong.

What is the error it gives u? Does it say platform not supported? or it needs higher version of flash?
works perfect. However please add this to instructions *must switch flash from on demand to always on

Ok will add tidbit about ondemand and pictures off as options. But u can still use with ondemand there is a little arrow next to share this video that allows u to turn on flash for those that hate to keep it always on to avoid pesky flash ads.
Does not work for me. Says hulu is not supported on my platform. Do i need root? I just tried installling on top of 10.3,it says not installed. Then i uninstalled 10.3 and used file manager to pull up the downloaded file and installed it. No luck.

try uninstalling the modded version again. reinstall the market version. then uninstall market version and try installing the modded version. Let me know if that works.
Make sure you hit all the x's on the tabs to close out of the browser ... you cant just hit the back button to exit, that will just put it in the background processes ... remember that. Once you come back in it should work.

I did this about 5 different times with no luck. One time my TF froze and i had to hard reboot. Then i decided to switch flash to ondemand, it had been on always previously. Dont ask why i did it, I just had a haunch. Anyways, it works now. I am not sure if it finally took or if changing the option made it work, but it works now. Thx.

Not sure why its working for some and not for others. Maybe for those who are having problems post what software build version u are using. I am on the 0423 build so maybe people who are on old firmware are having problems.
If u post as much specific detail about what the problem is and how ur device is set up maybe we can figure out a solution.
i'm on 8.2.3.9-20110423
I had flash 10.2 installed. put flash 10.3_hulu into a folder on my transformer.
uninstalled flash 10.2, then used Ghost Commander to locate the 10.3 & install it.
tried the stock browser, with the user agent set to Desktop... didnt work.
tried Dolphin HD with user agent set to desktop... didnt work.
rebooted. tried both again. didnt work.
uninstalled 10.3_hulu. rebooted. installed 10.3 (marketplace version). then uninstalled it. then re-stalled the hacked version. rebooted. tried both stock & dolphin. nothing. changed dolphin's plug-in settings from "always on" to "on demand." still nothing.
got angry. cursed out friends on xboxlive because I can. made angry post on xda forum. relived the horror all over again by typing this post
just tried installed the hacked one over the standard one. still doesnt work. uninstalled then installed hacked on again. still nothing.
Only way I was able to get it to work was by setting plug in to On Demand.
Got it to work on mine. Downloaded the .apk file and ran it from file manager. Failed to install first time. Uninstalled the stock version then reran the modded one. Installation completed then. Had to drop the show resolution down to 480. 720 was a bit to choppy. Biggest problem right now, is that the Hulu screen wasn't intended for a touchscreen interface.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App
got it to work on mine but its laggy when its running on full screen.
Mine wasn't working with the apk from the older post...I kept getting the "unsupported on your platform" message right when I got into Hulu.com.
When I loaded this apk and followed the steps...I got all the way to choosing and watching a vid before I got that message....
but still no joy.

[Q] kobo vox: install google market?

hey all,
first post, apologies if this might be in the wrong place.
i've just picked up the kobo vox, and it's awesome, but i can't figure out how to get the android market running. i've got the apk installed, but the device doesn't give me the option to add a google account. the kobo vox explicitly says it supports the android marketplace, so i'm hoping i'm doing something wrong.
thanks!
I'm in the same state. I've looked about and managed to use some of Cyanogen's packages to install a few core stuff like the framework and the market app itself, but trying to run the Market asks me to register a Google account, which always fails saying there was a connection issue. On a further reboot android.process.acore decided to crash every five seconds and I had to reset the device to factory settings.
This kinda sucks because the device is fairly solid, but the default "market" is a joke. I'm already annoyed by the fairly large amount of preinstalled apps (which can't be uninstalled, as usual), but not having proper Market access would probably be a deal killer.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
What about Rooting?
I have run into the same problem. I think that before you can install the full android market we will have to Root the tablet. Has anyone tried the Gingerbreak.apk? Or is there some other way to Root the tablet?

I've tried GingerBreak on my Kobo Vox and it seems to have installed, however I'm not certain the SU access is working properly. When I try repairing permissions in ROM Manager, I get the message "An Error occured trying to run priviledged commands!". It also fails when I try to backup my ROM.
This is honestly the first Android device I've ever owned so I'm not certain that I'm doing everything correctly. I did make sure to allow SuperUser permissions to ROM Manager, but I'm still getting errors. Any help from a Veteran Android user would be appreciated.
Can't get past the Android Login
After rooting and installing Busybox I was able to install the Android Market but every time I try to login the app will not connect to the Market to confirm my ID, it seems to time out. Any Ideas on what I can try?
Turns out my inability to repair permissions was simply due to me not having busybox installed. I can attest that GingerBreak does successfully root the tablet.
I'm hoping I can find a way to install Clockwordmod recovery in order to install the google apps from CM7. I tried simply copying the files into place without success.
So, did you manage to install busybox? What version and where?
Tell me if you manage to install the recovery, the vox don't seem to have one by default.
If we manage to install all the google app and the googleframeworkservice, that would make the tablet a lot better and give the possibility to install the android market.
I was able to install busybox 4.3 /system/xbin. I do not know about a recovery mode but I did manage to put the tablet into "Safe Mode" after it do stock in a loop at bootup but I am not sure how I did it. According to user help you can not update the firmware from the SDcard.
Have you tried to install Clockwordmod?
I managed to install the googleserviceframework, but I need to install some other thing that don't want to install.
I also manage to install youtube (the real one) and it work great, I just can't sign in...
In the accounts & sync settings section, I can create a google account, but It can't communicate with the google server to set up the account, it give me the error:
"Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server."
It's probably cause by some app that I didn't manage to install yet, like "onetimeinitializer", "googlepartnersetup" and some other...
I've managed to install Busybox, but have yet been unsuccessful installing the Google Framework.
I was able to install the Clockwordmod, but I have yet to find a phone or tablet on it's list that is compatible with the Kobo Vox. I'm going to do my research to see if any phones or tablets have similar specs to the Vox and see if that will work. So far I've just been picking at random and trying it.
Try the B & N Nook Color - same CPU, Memory & screen size.
That was my first thought. Unfortunately no luck. With a couple of them I can seem to get them start loading as if they're going into an update but it always errors out. I'm now just systematically going through the list and driving every version.
If you attempt to install a version of Clockwork made for another device, you'll brick it.
Don't forget that after dropping in the files to the various system directories, you also have to set permit permissions properly.
Also, would be good to request a Kobo Vox forum here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301121
If anyone in this thread is actually a developer who knows how to compile and so forth, Koush has a brief guide to porting Clockwork:
http://www.koushikdutta.com/2010/10/porting-clockwork-recovery-to-new.html
Manual Configuration is a must have option. Thanks
wow, pretty lame that the android market seems not to be supported despite it being touted as an official feature
on a side note, has anyone figured out how to change or remove that default dock (without rooting)? it's kind of a pain in the ass.
I've installed a couple dozen different clockwork of recoveries so far and haven't bricked it yet but maybe I should quit while I'm ahead. I'd rather not brick my shiny new Kobo.
Need Kernal Version & Build Number
I have to return my Kobo Vox because the speaker is not working. Under Privacy Settings I have done a Factory Data Reset but I am still showing the Super Icon. Does anyone have a copy of the original firmware or know how to unroot the device?

Official marketing material says apps but doesn't say Android Market. Some media outlets misquoted and wrote Market falsely.

Factory Reset just clears the data partition but doesn't reset the system partition.
Until someone properly compiles a custom recovery or finds a stock reset file, there's no safe way back.

Updating Play Services to 8.1.x, reverts to 7.8.99 on reboot 0_o

This is driving me crazy. I tried updating to Google Play Services 8.1.14 so I can try Android Pay. I can install the apk, and it seems to work fine. However, when I reboot I'm always back to GPS 7.8.99.
I uninstalled Android Wear, Android Pay, etc. I turned on airplane mode, reverted all GPS updates (puts it on 6.x), installed the 8.1.14 apk, and when I reboot.... still on 7.8.99!
Yes, I am using the correct built (-238). I am on stock/rooted/s-off 5.0.1 w/ root turned off in SuperSU. If anyone has any clue whats happening here, let me know!
Okay, so it looks like I solved my own problem. I reenabled root and UNINSTALLED Google Play Services via Titanium, then installed 8.1.14, and it seems to have stuck. I still have no clue why the update was reverting, but... whatever. Hopefully this helps someone in the future if they have the same issue.
Disregard my last, that was not successful. Smart Lock disappeared, and my Trust Agents page was blank with no obvious fix. I did a clean install w/ the latest stock/rooted RUU, and updated straight to services 8.1.14 apk, which worked fine (ncluding smart lock). Until...
Until an 8.1.15 auto-update. Which put me right back into the same revert on reboot loop, except now it would update to 8.1.15 a couple minutes after ever boot, and then revert to 8.1.14 every reboot.
I sorta narrowed down the problem... The 8.1.14 update I installed manually via apk resided at /data/app/com.google.android.gms-1
Every time I rebooted, it created a NEW folder and redownloaded 8.1.15 to to those folders, named com.google.android.gms-2, com.google.android.gms-3, com.google.android.gms-4, etc.
I'm assuming this is exactly what it was doing before i wiped, except 7.8.99 was installed to the com.google.android.gms-1 folder which it always reverts to.
The fix was simple: delete com.google.android.gms-1... rename com.google.android.gms-2 to com.google.android.gms-1. Delete all the extra copies.
If anyone could explain this behaviour, I would love to hear. This seems like a pretty big bug, I'm not sure if it's related to the (stock) rom or a bug with the 8.1.x google play services.
here is your fix

I would agree about adding to ruu thread, however, i cannot enforce that. I know some of the newer ROMS might support that like fluent 6.1 i believe does, and santod latest debloat i have not had any of those issues with those.
No issues here. What I did was let it download gmscore, then I cut and pasted base.apk and lib (from data/app) to system/priv-app/GmsCore (deleting preeviois GmsCore.apk and lib first) and renamed to GmsCore.apk - then reboot.
Id try this.

Many apps have stopped after Android 6.0 update - any global way to fix?

Hi all,
A few months ago I've installed a Developer Preview of Android 6.0 on my Nexus 5. It has worked surprisingly well and today I've updated manually to the latest build (MRA58N). So no root, official recovery...
Android itself works well, but many apps from the Play Store stop with the famous "Unfortunately [App name] has stopped" message. Virtually half of them.
I've tried the usual ways to fix the problem like the cache cleaning and so on, but nothing works. The only way is to uninstall the app and to install it again. Of course, every one needs to be configured next.
What can I do? Of course, I can reinstall and reconfigure every single app, but maybe there is a global fix already available?
[Update]: I continue to investigate the issue because my other Nexus 5 has been updated perfectly. It seems the problem is related to the app permissions as some of them can't access the files, other launch, but can't open any file. Any way to repair the permissions?
Thanks in advance.
