Help about flashing - General Questions and Answers

Hi!!!i want to ask
1.Is there any difference in updating latest firmware via kies and flashing latest stock firmware provided at samfirmware/samsung-updates???
2.do flashing stock also require clearing data like custom firmwares???
Pls reply...thanx...

The answer to 1. Is that kies is an official update where as sammobile is considered to be unofficial updating. As for question 2. I can't answer that one I'm still quite new to all this myself.

Yes. The veterans always recommend a "clean" flash when switching ROMs, even when going back to stock.

Flash rom without root?

Is it possible to flash a custom rom without root? If so, where can I find one?
Thanks for your help!

No. No custom roms unless you're rooted and unlocked. The closest you'll get are flashing Verizon factory stock roms via Odin, but those are not rooted.

What is your purpose to use custom rom without root?? Custom rom, by default required root for all the modded apps to work.

Umm, why?
I'm new and just trying to learn, that's all. I come from I phone. The S3 un-rooted can already do more than a jailbroken iphone. Almost like learning a new language with the Android and rooting.

[Q] flashing 4.1.2 with mobile ODIN

I want to flash the stock German JB 4.1.2 from my US ICS 4.0.4 using Mobile ODIN with ever root. My question is do i need to wipe my whole device since it is stock ROM and not a custom one?because i don't want to lose all my apps. I know i can back up with titanium but i would really not like to do those steps if not needed.
Thanks

Some extra features in Setting sections (display, sound, apps management, and so on), some alterations in keyboard's spacial keys (? - !) . the operations generally looks smother and lag-free, this is what I noticed.
Can we say these are minor changes? Yes, we can

OTA is nothing to do with flash counter .
But if you have root or custom/ non original rom OTA will not work . Use Kies update .

I had no issues using Mobile Odin to flash the full 4.1.2 german ROM (with everroot) on to my N8000

@fayez107
The country/region of the firmware does not matter. It only matters if you want to receive OTA firmware updates or update via Kies.
There's a Pakistani firmware in this link if you insist on having it http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=GT-I9105&pcode=0#firmware

Well once I root my phone, it means no more OTA update for me right?
Officialy i cant get anymore updates from Samsung Kies?
Cause if Thats the case I'm thinking to wait for 4.2 update from Samsung. Maybe that fixes the problem to move apps over sd. The link you gave, is it rooted?

Well so here is the deal..
I flash my phone using Odin and install CMW Recovery. And then install the pre-rooted firmware available in this forum (regardless) the country in belongs. Thats it ?

No...if you rooted your phone with clockworkmod installed already. Then you don't have to install the prerooted firmware, cause you already rooted!

Well at this very moment I have installed nothing. I am looking for Pre-Rooted firmware (PAK). I hope i get it or if someone can do that please do the favor and root the original stock rom (firmware) so I can use that. I do not want any modifications and customized UI.
UPDATE :- I just rooted my phone through Odin. Installed CWM and then installed SuperSU. Root checker has passed my phone. I still cant install or move apps to SD card

What to do... what to do...

I did not make a nandroid of my stock system (30 lashes with my own strap). Consequently I've been looking for the stock firmware to download. It is apparently only available through hotfile.com and I can't complete a download (been trying all day). Does anyone have stock jellybean for the gt-p5113 that can pm me to make arrangements to share through dropbox or something.
Thanks
Edit: I'm in the USA so I need what seems to be the general version.

Bro its not necessary that you flash original firmware!!!
Go to development section and download a Rom say ripper Rom.
Its good and flash it via cwm recovery!!!
And if you do not have recovery installed than install it.that will take 5 minutes at max
Enjoy.

I realize this is kinda ocd but I'm really upset that I didn't make a nandroid before I flashed cm10.1. Consequently, if I ever need to return my tablet to Samsung I can't revert it to stock. I'm just trying to get a working copy of the firmware (jellybean for gt -p5113 USA version) to have on hand. I'd like to try other roms but I want the ability to revert to stock first.

Bro first flash any Rom,you can download that as file hosting sites for them are good.so you get your device working.
And later when you get stock firmware via hotfile just simply flash that.

Thanks it's working fine with CM 10.1. I'm just being a little crazy about not having the backup and trying all day without getting a download. I suppose it will eventually download if I keep trying. Sorry for the bother. ( and I'm not a bro I'm a grandma LOL)

No reason to start 2 threads on the same topic. Mods will most likely close one of them. Hotfile is as good as it gets. I suggest you check your internet connection. Downloading by phone is not the best way. And if you use a pc then make sure your computer does not go to sleep before the download is finished. Almost all the files in the links I gave are US. Cellular South is Mississippi. Not sure what the XAC region code is.

Can't get mobile data working for ANY AOSP Roms 4.3/4.4?

My d2vzw Mobile data won't connect when I have LiquidSmootj 2.37 v4.3 and also won't work on Unofficial Parandroid 4.4.2? I've tried clearing dalvik and regular cache in recovery but nothing... I also restored IMEI but still nothing.. I can still make and recieve calls but no data... I'm running jellybeans rom 4.1.2 and the 4g is exellent and my data seems to be working good but I just wanted to know what's causing the mobile data problem with the 4.3 Roms and 4.4 Roms?

Make a bck up file
try factory reset install liquidsmooth 2.37 gapps 8/13 then u should be fine.. At least i was
U can also try flash bckup file of older version of liquidsmooth 2.9 or 2.10 then flash 2.37 gapps without wiping nothing to see if that works
flash thru recovery
Also check that ur on LTE/CDMA/Evdo/GSM/WCCDMA
good luck
Thanks! I'll do this but I dont think it's a liquidsmooth thing... My mobile data have been acting up with all the AOSP Roms, even the 4.2.2 Roms

Have you tried pulling the sim for a few minutes and then reinserting and rebooting?
Also maybe flash full mf1 firmware and then the new modem from the 4.3 ota. I think ML1, but double check in the firmware thread over in Android development.
I tried repulling the sim for a few minutes but nothing... I dont really want to do that reflashing all over again so i guess im done... Imma just stay with jellybeans... Anyway, tommorow im getting the new nexus 7 with pure AOSP sooo thank you anyway for your suggestions and I appreciate you guys help

Flashing firmware and modem are really easy. Just download the firmware, flash it, done. No setting rom stuff up. Worth a try if you're at your wits end.
Do i need to factory reset my phone or can i just flash it while im on a 4.1.2 Rom

Just flash the mf1 all in one firmware, clear caches and reboot. Then flash the ML1 modem that is also available in the same forum. No need to factory reset anything. Won't change a thing other than your baseband.
So silly question, but did you check mobile data settings and check to see if LTE/cdma /evdo were selected? Many users are reporting apps are flipping that setting (myself included on liquid) and it requires a manual switch.
