When do you think your phone is offically rooted? Think about components such as recovery, kernal, and ROM. Also consider other things. Just asking for your opinion!

When the super user prompt pops up asking if an app can have root access lol
^Exactly what he said. When you basically attain root permissions. You also need to root to flash roms and kernels. Most roms these days are already pre rooted.

When I can write to the root of my phone. Roms are nice also . But as far as " being rooted" as long as Superuser works I'm rooted!

Hello,
I wanted to know if I can root my phone with "Revolutionary" and still use the stock rom or do you need to install a custom rom. I had the HD2 on T-mobile for the last year and have installed several nand roms. This is my first real Android phone. I really like the stock rom and I just want to be able to use Setcpu, Spare parts Pro, Blade Buddy Pro, etc. basically having access to OC and other things. I read how to S-off the phone from the link below. can I stop after step #3?
Thank you for any input.

Yes......most people just want root for the apps. U can still use stock. Custom roms are strictly by choice

Run revolutionary, get soff, flash recovery, flash perma root zip.

Thank you. I thought I only needed to go to step three. Sorry for the newb question but what do you mean " feel free to freeze or delete the bloat" are you referring to the bootloader?

Without root there's not a whole lot you do.. I've heard that changing your launcher will help the problem (e.g. Go Launcher, ADW, Launcher Pro etc..) Other than that your pretty much going to have to wait for an update from HTC... Or root.

Sorry I guess I misunderstood. I thought you were referring to to Sense restarting. So your saying that your phone is randomly rebooting? If so, can you take it in to your carrier? I see your in Yogyakarta, not sure about policies in that part of the world but if your having random reboots on a non rooted phone, your carrier or the manufacturer should be able to help you.
Also, your sig says your sending from the HTC Glacier, aka myTouch 4G, you may want to check over in that forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=793
My One X just restored to factory settings. Is that normal when unlocking bootloader? SuperSu is gone as well. Ideas?

Yes. Normal. You're still rooted. Just reinstall super user from the market.

Thanks for the explanation! Much appreciated.
I am new to the root/rom game as well. Been sporting android for a while and finally decided to pull the trigger. I rooted a few weeks ago, and then decided to unlock the bootloader and flash Scott's 4.1 DE ROM. I used goomanager to flash and it worked flawlessly. I have come to realize that Ti Backup Pro can become one of your best friends when dealing with app and data backup. I forgot to back up a few things and am regretting it now. with a little patience you will be fine. just read things thoroughly and usually it sounds harder than it actually is.
Thread moved to Q&A.

Hello all! I just recently rooted my phone (Visionary Method) and decided to download Rom Manager Premium. Whenever I open RM I'm prompted with; "You must root your phone for ROM Manager to function. Superuser was not found at '/system/bin/su" or '/system/xbin/su' Use google Search on your computer to find instructions to root your phone. I I had booted into my bootloader and it shows on the top of the screen "s-off" . So why is this giving me this problem? I really just wanted to Permanently Root my phone (Which I did) and get a ICS ROM for my phone. Could anyone help me? I really don't want to give up or even brick my phone. Thanks.
In addition to that, could I Install IceColdSandwich using this method; >>> /watch?v=awDMK2A5x6g&feature=related

looks like you don't have root yet...you only have S-Off. did you remember to run VISIONARY app again after the S-Off process?

You can't uninstall apps in /system through the usual method. You need to use an app like Titanium Backup to do it.
Couple questions:
What firmware are you on?
Do you have superuser or supersu?
If you are rooted there are several ways to get rid of the bloatware.
Let see if we can get this done for you.

Cool. Titanium backup is the best way as described above. Also exfileexplorer will work if you know what you doing. Make sure if you haven't flashed a recovery to do so. And please please please make a back up in recovery in case deleting something messes your phone up. If you need specific help? Feel free to pm me.
