What is an unlocked infinity worth? - Asus Transformer TF700

Just wondering if anyone have sold or bought an unlocked unit and how much did you pay or sell it for. I'm considering unlocking my tablet but I wanted to see what sort of $ loss I'll be looking at in case I wanted to sell it after.
I will be comparing an unlocked to my Nexus 10 and I'm hoping the 700 will be on par as I can still get a refund from walmart for the n10 but cant return the 700 anymore.
TIA

There is no rule for the price, usually check on Ebay for a used unlocked one for the average selling price.

Not sure what the difference would be but I just bought a stock transformer with keyboard and case for $525.. eBay in perfect condition...

I tried ebay but theres so many that I have to read each description as they dont put in the title that their unlocked.
Also to answer the other question, unlocked basically voids warranty so most buyers prefer that there's still warranty on the device just in case.

I'm betting most buyers wouldn't even realize the difference.
I actually think already unlocked to the buyer of a "pre-owned" may just be a benefit.
If a person knew what they were buying they probably wouldn't care anyway.
Buyer beware!
My opinion no reduction in price for an unlocked tab...

If you have a working blob for wheelie, it should be worth even more than a locked one.

Selling Rooted Phone On Ebay

Hi, I wanted to know if anyone has thought of or tried selling a rooted G1 or G2 phone on ebay? I thought of this yesterday but was wondering if it is against ebay policy. Having a rooted phone obviously extends functionality and features of the phone and thus adds some value which I am sure there are many people unwilling or uninterested in actually rooting a phone themselves yet very willing to pay more for a rooted phone. What do you think and would ebay allow it?

PLEASE DON"T BASH ME FOR MY CAPITALIST THOUGHTS, HELPFUL CRITICISM WELCOME
Hello Everyone. I've been doing research for the past couple of days and I've noticed that on ebay, a brand new unlocked iPhone 4 is selling for upwards of $1,000 while a brand new Captivate can be had for about $300-400.
I am still within the 30 day return period for my phone. I am thinking about returning my phone, getting the iPhone 4, unlocking it and selling it on ebay, then buying my dearly beloved Captivate for non-contract price on ebay or somewhere else.
By doing this I could make a profit of minimum $200 and max about $500. Are there any laws forbidding this? If not, then it's definitely in a legal grey area. Has anyone out there ever done this before? Thanks for the help
Update 1: Ok, purchased my second Captivate on Ebay for $380
Update 2: Traded in my first Captivate for an iPhone 4. They had to activate the iPhone in store, thus rendering my original SIM unusable and leaving me with a microSIM. I was bummed out. I thought I had to go to an AT&T store for them to transfer me back to a regular SIM. It turns out that microSIMs work in the Captivate! All you have to do is position it right Took me 3 tries to get it to work.
Phase 3: Sell iPhone 4 on ebay for a profit
What laws would prevent you from selling your property? You get the phone subsidized because you pay the 2 year contract. If you are still in your window feel free to do that, if you think it is your best option and you will actually make that amount of money on the phone.
You're not breaking any laws at all, you're maneuvering within your rights. Knock yourself out.
Thank you for the positive feedback, I feel this plan is coming to fruition
Er, I'm not sure why consulting Jesus is necessary. There is nothing morally incorrect about this.
As for legality: In some cases, eBay will prevent you from doing this (they did so with the Xbox 360, Wii, and PS3, I believe), but it is usually due to the companies contacting them and asking them to do so. In other words, it is usually something voluntarily enforced by certain companies for whatever reasons. In most cases, however, they will not do this, and I don't believe they're doing so for the iPhone 4.
I understand there are also some out there who find the concept of buying something then selling it higher elsewhere due to shortages is morally objectionable, but frankly, I haven't heard a good argument for why it is yet.
To get to the point, if you so desire to get an iPhone 4 and sell it on eBay for profit, it is entirely up to you.
good luck being able to unlock the iphone.
the jailbreak is broken on 4.02 and you need to jailbreak to unlock
all phones are shiping at least with 4.02 and soon 4.1
Yea, unlocking it is your main issue.
The only reason the phones that exist sell so high is because they're unlocked... An ATT user won't buy a locked phone for $1000 when they can buy it for $200 from ATT...
WWJD?
Seems o.k. to me...thanks for asking.
Jack
I live by WWZ(Zilch)D. So far I've gotten 2 STD's, bricked my captivate 37 times and it's caught fire (twice). This isn't working out so good for me.
I don't see any reason why this would be morally objectionable or against any laws.
Morally speaking, cell phones are not a necessity, they are luxury, so it is worth whatever people are willing to pay for it; its not like you are overcharging for medicine, food, or shelter.
Legally speaking, you purchased the phone and I am pretty sure it does not say anywhere in the contract that you must keep the phone until your contract is up; or else they wouldn't offer early upgrades since that would endorse contract violations.
And as far as WWJD, he would probably give the phone away for free and buy a new one, and I don't think you want to do that...
Lets get this straight, I'm pretty sure Jesus would use his magic to turn a huge profit and blow it on drugs and hookers. Isn't that what revelations was about? It's been a while since sunday school.
I did this back when I had an iPhone 3g. I sold it when My contract ended to get a backflip for $100 on a new 2 year, then turned around and sold it for $300+, so I had around $550 to play around with, and at&t didn't care.
Also, installed clockworkmod and quickboot on a captivate at at&t today, but didn't have time to root it
I'd say go ahead with it. I mean, $1000 for an okay phone is stupid, but if people are buying it, then it makes them stupid (or ignorant, as they apparently aren't aware of the Galaxy S series). In fact, this sounds like a good idea...I might want to do it!
IMO, the iPhone 4 should sell for around $500 unlocked on eBay...
So you do have a backup phone right?

Yeah my projected value of $1000 may seem a bit high, they average around $600-$800 for unlocked 16GB brand new iPhone 4

Ah I foresaw this as a problem as well, I figured I would just purchase a captivate at non-contract price now, and wipe and exchange the original Cappy for the iPhone 4 so I won't go through any withdrawal symptoms while the iphone is selling on ebay. Yeah I'll have to front some money but I should double my investment. Plus, I got $250 for selling my 1 yr old unlocked iphone 3G so I already have some spending money. Man people will pay lots of money for iCrap

actually, and correct me if I'm wrong, fairly certain the terms of service for buying a SUBSIDIZED phone (which, if you buy as an upgrade is subsidized) requires you to activate and use it on your line. they claim if you don't use it on one of your lines, they will charge you the difference or equivalent early termination fee.
now for how they enforce that or how often is probably extremely low. for instance, my sister used my mother's upgrade option to buy an iPhone 4 and the AT&T corporate store even did the process for us in the store. clearly they don't genuinely care, but I believe it's within their right to charge you for breaking the terms of the contract.
And then if the iphone doesnt sell and ask those people on ebay are just waiting for rubes? I would be careful of using ebay as a measuring stick for the actual selling prices on the iphone, considering its off contract price.. Edit: nevermind there is none, all contract. I wish you luck with your iphone... Personally if I was going to buy a 1000 dollar phone I just get an ipad, hope no one is that smart

I'd definitely do that. I actually did it once with the iPhone 3GS, made a really nice profit. I usually find ways to get my phones for decent prices and save my contract for an iPhone to do what you're thinking of doing.

[Q] Thinking about buying outright

So I've been following this phone for a while, and can't help but want to get it.
I'm using a 32 gig iphone 4s now and am thinking about just selling it on craigslist and buying this one outright.
Unfortunately one of the reasons I want to get back to android is the customization and being able to try out roms ect. And as everyone has been talking about lately the AT&T One X has a locked bootloader. Also I don't want the international one because i really want to get LTE
So now I don't know if I should just do the easy thing and grab the AT&T one and hope that they bootloader gets unlocked, but I've been hearing that the roger one is exactly the same to the AT&T one except the logo and bloatware, both things I don't particularly want.
So now my question, would grabbing the Rogers one be my best choice? Would I run into any issues using it on AT&T? Also is there anyway to get the rogers one here in the US? Online somewhere for the same price? One last thing is I've heard that the AT&T gets a free 25 gigs on DropBox would I still be able to claim this if I went with the Rogers?
Thanks alot,
Alex
Don't buy the Rogers one. It's $170 overpriced right now.
Just get the AT&T one off contract. It will be unlocked eventually here.

I too agree with his reasoning. Definitely get it off contract as its much cheaper than the Rogers version. Besides, the stock experience of the phone is actually great.
Where would the best place price and return policy wise be at?
I don't think costco allows you to buy their phones with no contract unfortunately because I love their 90 days policy.
Amazon and ATT seem to have the best prices otherwise. 550?
Either have the upper hand with returns though?
Amazon wouldn't have a restock fee.
I bought mine outright. $549.99 plus taxes (ouch) but ill be making a lot back after selling my Lumia 900. Dont regret it a bit

Rezound Owner, Seeking GS3 upgrade advice.

Hi,
My noob search didn't seem to provide the info I was seeking.
I am considering purchasing a Galaxy S III. I am on Verizon and do not have any plans on leaving Verizon anytime soon. My upgrade is in January 2013, so I will only purchase a device outright so that I do not lose unlimited data.
I have the $7/mo. insurance on the line that I have the Rezound on. Considering I would be purchasing a device outright, insuring the new device is top priority. If filing a claim, I would like to ensure that I can flash the device to stock (I guess the future will tell regarding the Verizon bootloader and whether it is unlockable and relockable (HTC's shows "re-locked")).
I don't want to compromise on any frequency bands being unavailable, so I suspect that options 1&2 below would be the only way to ensure compatibility with Verizon's network.
1. Purchase Verizon locked GS3
2. Purchase Verizon unlocked GS3
3. Purchase International GS3 (with Wolfson DAC!) and try to get it to work on Verizon.
Any hints? Please feel free to defer me to search if the answers are out there. Thanks
I have no clue what your asking
But there are high chances international s3 won't work in vzw
Also if you are buying out right get the dev edition from the Samsung site

If you're willing to shell out the cash, I would recommend getting the unlocked bootloader dev edition from Samsung for VZW whenever that is released. It isn't worth spending the same amount of money to get the non-dev version with a locked bootloader

Sorry for not being too clear.
1. Is it possible to insure a device with Asurion that I purchase outright? I suspect I could if I bought it from Verizon (possibly Amazonwireless.com, Best Buy, or Samsung as well).
2. If I did purchase a device outright, is the International version no-go? I would need Verizon voice/3G/4G compatibility, so I suspect it would not be an option. That would be a shame since the International version has a Wolfson DAC.
3. Developer vs Normal version: will there be software development segregation and will Developer-version users be left behind since so few people will own it compared to the normal version? Also, doesn't that alert Verizon that you are a "power-user" where they suspect you may be rooted or tethering (call me paranoid). Additionally, would insurance claims be complicated with a Developer version device?

I figure that the sheer interest in this phone will eventually yield an unlocked bootloader. If so, what advantages would the Developer version have?
Thanks guys.
the dev edition would be less of a pain when using custom software and rooting and such
Also I dont think asution will let u insur it with them if bought form else where
I prefer best buy insurance
More coverage less annoyance
You can just bring in a phone that is less than 30 days Old and they'll insur it and there are no deductible
Int gs3 can't use 4g
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
You can add insurance at anytime from Verizon by calling 611 no matter where you purchased the phone- it just gets added to your plan. Now, would I trust that insurance would send me back a Dev phone? no way. Unless the dev phone (SCH-I535MBC and D) carries a different model number in the Verizon system (I haven't seen any - my phone is just listed as Samsung Galaxy SIII 16GB in blue not SCH-I535MBB), you'll just get a refurb with whatever internal memory and color your original phone had. I am imagining that Best Buy's insurance would do the same, but it is a lot better than Verizon's. It doesn't cover loss or theft though.

Of course, BestBuy is on the verge of bankruptcy.............
I would personally just buy the phone outright from Verizon if you want insurance (I have the Asurion insurance as well- they're definitely great).
I'm not sure how much support the Developer Edition will garner anyways- the vast majority of Verizon Galaxy S3 owners are not going to own one. Plus, with the current auto-kexec method of booting custom kernels, you don't gain much from owning one.
The biggest issue with custom ROMs on the Galaxy S3 at the moment is the risk of losing your IMEI, which has affected pretty much every S3 model regardless of carrier.
I wouldn't want to be stuck with no warranty from Samsung if this happens and we find no way to fix it.
The IMEI and associated data are able to be backed up now. As a matter of course, I have done this myself, just keeping a copy on my laptop in case anything goes horribly horribly wrong.
As for insurance, you can insure any phone you add to your account within 30 days of activating.
Asurion will replace it with the closest thing they have on-hand, so you would have to be very careful about replacement if you bought the dev edition, as it would be very unlikely that they would know/care about the differences between them.
The international version is a non-starter with CDMA carriers due to ESN locking. Besides, even if you had one with the appropriate LTE frequencies, none of the international models are CDMA, so if it activates, you would lose data any time you lost LTE.
If you're paying retail, just buy the dev edition and put $7 (or more) away every month toward replacement if anything bad were to happen to your phone. Over time, the decrease in value that comes with time will reduce the cost for replacement outright to make it worth it. Even with Asurion, you have a $100 deductible for smartphones (plus the possibility that you wouldn't get a dev edition back). If your damaged one isn't utterly destroyed and you managed to keep it for say a full year, you could probably take your $84 + whatever you can get for your busted phone + $100 (deductible), and be pretty close to the $600 retail, if it's even still that high after a year.

I disagree- not a single person has successfully restored their IMEI after losing it to a "0", people are just assuming this works, yet we haven't even seen a proof-of-concept.

Where are people getting their S IV

So now the S IV has been rooted. People have had their hands on it for a little while.
eBay sellers still show pre-orders. Can't find a shop with stock since the phone hasn't been released.

They must be devs or beta testers and or reviewers.

Does BestBuy have an advantage over AT&T? I am asking because I am trying to decide if I want to go through AT&T to buy mine or another brick & mortar store. I'm not going to buy online because I want to be able to physically see and hold what I will be buying in this case. I plan on buying it at full price, but that might change if I can get a deal on a plan if I subsidize it through AT&T.

They usually charge less. Also if you get their warranty, it's much better. Covers everything and you don't have to pay for a replacement or repair.
AND, the next time you purchase a phone, they will buy the old one back. Usually not as much as you'd get on eBay for it, but could help defray the costs of your next phone.

Thanks for the reply. It sounds like a pretty good place to buy from but I am a little unsure if BestBuys is going to even be in business in 2 or three years when I go to get another phone. I guess its going to come down to how much less they can sell them for versus AT&T.
