I can't help you much myself but there are plenty of guides out there. a little search and reading goes a long way!
Also keep in mind that it isn't a few minutes thing, porting ROMs takes time and hard work.

There are very clear instructions in the development forums for every rom that is available for our phones. Please read them.

[Q] Help with general development

I would like to start helping with development. I'm getting pretty good with messing around with android. I work for T-Mobile and I've had android since the G1.
I'd like to start contributing to the family.
So my question is pretty open. Where should I start for learning about android development? Any advice and help would be appreciated.

Perhaps I should ask in a general forum. Maybe this isn't the correct place to ask.

What would I need to do if I was to trade this sgs4g for a LG g2x? Trading with a friend not at the store.would we just swap sim cards or what? Reason I'm asking is cause u said u work 4 T-Mobile. Just want to know what I would need to do to put it on my plan and give him mine. Any help is appreciated.

You can swap Sims. That's all you need to do. However the warranty will be under him still. If you have insurance, it will cover the G2x. But you wont have the warranty.

@stevekixs, I am with you... I'm looking to help anyone who is currently on this path. I keep reading how we need more devs for the SGS4G. If you find a project which is needing help, let me know, please.

[Q] Trying to make my own ROMS...

Im new and trying to become a good Dev. If you have any tips that would help, That would be great!!!
Start with it:
(Nun's Apktool)

I suggest picking a rom, and then learning to create a theme for it. Theming allows you to learn the tools you need and allows you to get familiar with how a rom is put together.
Just a suggestion...

That's a great suggestion nun! Also just look inside of a rom, get a deal of what it looks like...theming will help with getting used to the structure of roms...even if they are just simple themes

,Thanks these are very helpful tips, I will start by themeing it seems like the easiest way to learn, I've started looking inside of the roms without altering anything, now say I make a few themes for other roms do I need permission from the dev? I do not want to step on anyone's toes

How do you make a ROM?

I've always had android phones, since the very first one and would love to finally understand how to make a ROM. If anyone has a link to a detailed description of how to make one I'd really appreciate it.

You are in the wrong section. Please post in Q&A for questions.
Also, have you checked out the chef central forums? It has lots of info to get you started on development.
