[Q] Rooting my friends phone.. bricked? - HTC Sensation

I really need help here guys. I am rooting my friends HTC Sensation 4G (T-Mobile) and I think i might have broken the OS.
I can still get into recovery mode and flash, but my ROMs crash as soon as I boot. The phone even runs into a boot loop sometimes depending on which ROM. Can anybody guide me to bring the phone back to stock? I would GREATLY appreciate it.

I rooted the phone, installed supersu (fine up until now) .. Created a backup via CWM and tried to flash Cyanogen mod. I realized it failed and so i went back to wipe (factory reset, cache, and dalvik cache) and went to restore my backup. The back up passes but is not 100% working due to some missing files in the system. I am also running HBOOT - 1.17.1111

Yes, it say's S-OFF at the top. I also already used revolutionary to achieve S-OFF and get CWM... Now what? I still can't do anything.. Do i flash ICS? What ROM do you recommend? Please, show me steps if that is possible.

Hi,
I gave you a GB ROM to flash.
That should get your phone running again.
Then, I gave you a link to a guide which will install 4 EXT recovery, update your firmware and radio, and install ARHD ICS ROM.
Please read the link carefully, and follow it to the letter.

I tried that, and it failed on me. It bootloops on the HTC logo now. I need to return this phone to my friend by tomorrow.
I don't know if this is too much to ask, but would anybody mind assisting me through a google hangouts video chat? I could do it tomorrow at about 4PM. I really need to get this fixed.... Like bad.

Wipe the phone. Then Flash the original OS with Odin. Problem solved, then try rooting again

could someone with a big heart tell me the instructions on what should i do after achieving S-OFF? can you post it as step by step? what should i install first? Recovery? Radio? flash? sorry for this question but im a bit confuse on what to do first after s-off until i flashed a cooked rom.. please do help me...
After root, firstly you flash a Recovery then you flash a Rom of your choice. Either with ROM Manager from the market or Manualy. You ll find more detailed instruction at the Recovery thread and the Rom thread.
when should i do a nand backup? flashing the radio? and sir whats the difference of clockworkmod recovery from ext4? because the thread of CWM says it is much better to go to ext4 thread? can you ellaborate to me?

As it's your first time (I'd suggest)
(although as with any advice that you read on here it is given with best intention only and not necessarily correct....do this at your own risk)
1)
S-off (if by XTC this will also perform factory reset of your device so ensure you've sync'ed/ backed up data first)
2)
Download and run ginger break (to get root (then reboot)
3)
download and install the free application rom manager from android market
4)
Use rom manager to flash CWM (very simple option and it will do it for you)
5)
Use rom manager (gui - very easy) or CWM to perform your first full (Nandroid) backup
6)
follow wipe instructions that come with the custom rom installations instructions that you're planning on installing, if installing LBC rom (personally I've suggest this one) then there is a specific wipe script to run
7)
Download and Install custom rom
good luck
You can update to ext4 recovery at a later time when all the above has worked

If he uses the original CWM to do a wipe he will end up with an ext3 partition.
Better off installing cwm through rom manager and booting into recovery and flashing ext4 recovery. Then backup rom and flash custom rom.

O yer , good point, although if he installs ext4 afterwards won't it convert the ext 3 to ext4 for him?
Anyway I was suggesting that he runs LBC wipe all script that I believe will only make ext4 partitions

edit: okay nvm i guess its bad img .. is flashing now ~
actually im waiting for alpharevx windows version... i just want to know the step by step procedure on what to do first upto the last in order so i would not end up bricking my device..
TBH I've never used Linux before but just run Ubuntu from disc and it was pretty easy
I used this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=138
Just dont follow steps 13, 14 (since this is for another phone)
Wew! finally I was able to S-off my Desire S! but my question is what's next?
Sorry I'm a total noob on this. Btw, After the s-off process, alpharevx said if I want to install clockwork recovery, I typed "Y" then it says "downloading clockwork for saga" but after that nothing happens. It's just stuck there so I disconnected my device and rebooted it.
How can I install clockwork and how can I root my device? thanks

My virtuous inquisition AOSP Rom is far from stable am i doing something wrong

I came from cm7.1 i flashed the rom the same as i always flashed any other rom. Im not an expert or anything but im not a newb i have done this before. But what i didnt do was a suoerwhipe should i have done that? I followed how you are supposed to install it i even watched tutorial on youtube to make sure i did it right and i did.
What the rom keeps doing is rebooting my phonr and i keep getting stuck on the htc logo. It will go to thr htc logo then reboot thrn go back to the logog then reboot again it does that over and over. And even when i tried to flash my cm7 clockworkmod backup it didnt work it still did it that had me extremely nervous that i was screwed. To fix it i had to refkash the firmware and then fkash the rom again clear the cache and everything all over again.
I thought it was over but then it did it again i and i jusr went back to cm7. I really want to use this rom anybody know why it is doing this? And how i can fix this?
Sent from my Sensation using XDA App
Firstly, you should always superwipe when going to a different ROM (that is, a ROM from a different family).
Secondly, read the first couple of posts in the Inquisition thread and make sure you are using the right firmware.
I am having the same doubt whether you have upgraded the firmware. If you are using ICS version of virtuous inquisition you must upgrade the firmware with v3.24 (Revolutionary) which has the HBOOT 1.27 . Please go through the following thread.

I would suggest you may have failed to delete the firmware .img file from the sd card before you tried to boot the ROM?

When you say firmware are you talking upgrading to 3.24? Because i didnt do that. I thought the only firmware you needed was the one included with the Rom that they tell you to install first. And boomboomer is right i also didnt delete the firmware .img.
But which one of these is causing the problem? Me not deleting the firmware.img off the root of the sd card. Or me not updating my htc firmware to 3.24?
I didnt know you had to update the firmware to 3.24 the first time a flashed this rom like 2 weeks ago i didnt do that and it seemed to work fine i just followed this youtube tutorial
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sF2OWf0D9XQ
In it it says nothing about updating to 3.24.

3.24 is not "required" by the VI 3.0 rom, but most users that use it experience little to no problems, compared to the previous firmware. Bottom line, it's more stable using 3.24.
Your right i didnt. you think thats whats causing it?

You aren't reading the help you're bring offered. Delete the img file to stop the boot loop, if you want then update to 3.24 for better compatibility with ROM 3.0.0.

Yes , you can . After flashing the ROM, do not reboot. Just power off. Then remove the sdcard . Put the the firmware file on the root of your sdcard using a pc. Insert the sdcard in phone. Boot into bootloader. Then follow on screen instruction. Hope you knowhow to boot into bootloader.
By the way, why not doing things in traditional way ??? I mean first flash firmware then you flash ROM.
I already flashed the rom and don't have an adapter to plug my sd card into my PC. Can I just download it from my phone and move it to the root of my SD then boot into bootloader?
And I flashed the rom first because i was told updating to 3.24 wasn't required. Plus I was kind of confused as to which 3.24 firmware to download and i just wanted the rom to bad but I have the right firmware now.

Yea its best to use the 3.24 fw. 3.12 causes reboots bootloops (grab the milk) and just ics based rom issues.

Yea. Go ahead flash the 3.24 then boot into recovery do a superwipe and reflash the rom. Just in case it causes issues with the rom already running.

Ok so u flashed the 3.24 via bootloader correct? Ok go back into recovery. Run the superwipe script. Use this one. http://db.tt/ps5JWwBw
Put it on the root of ur sd. Flash the superwipe then reflash ur rom.

Thanks mate really appreciated but could u plz post some links where to download files, and can i do that without rooting the phone, i also dont know what mean s-off.
Sorry, I can nor provide links as I am on my phone. But basically, you need to get s-off by using the juponotbear method. Google it,or check in dev section. After s-off, you need a custom recovery, like CWM. Place the pg58img.zip file on the root of your sd-card, and reboot into boot loader but removing and reinserting the battery, and then hold town power+vol down. It will ask you if you want to install, just confirm. Then remove the pg58img.zip.file.from your SD, and then download the gb firmware for your acid (might take some time to find the right one), and install it like you did with the recovery. Now, if you reboot, you will get a bootloop, because you have a ICS Rom on a gb firmware. Remove the pg58img.zip file from your SD, and download a gb ROM of your choice. Then boot into boot loader, and select recovery. When you have booted into recovery, wipe data, and flash rom from SD card. That should be it

Look in my signature at ☺ A great starting point for all new Sensation owners ☺
There are several guides to s-off.
Then downgrade your firmware or run GB RUU.

Can I install a boot.img within phone?

Hi everyone, I have S-on still, I am wondering if I can pull the boot.img from a kernel of a rom and move somewhere to my sdcard if I wanted to flash a rom that doesnt have this built in to it...the reason I am asking is because alot of downtime at work and sometimes I want to tinker with other roms, but since I have hboot 1.27 most of the roms need the boot.img pushed, and I cant install software to do this on my work computer....If it can be done on the phone by using ES file explorer or something similar, can someone guid me on where to put the boot.img...i believe on the root of sd?....just curious here....thanks much...Larry

Yes.. Wait for 10 minutes max.. If it's not booting then.. You need to flash boot.img of the rom seperately from fastboot but that process requires pc access.. Or try this.. If not booted.. Go to recovery again.. Then enable smartflash again and immediately flash the rom.. Without doing any wipe.. This might work

This is normal for Smart Flash, the device will boot to the splash screen then flash the boot.I mg then reboot again but all the way nto the ROM on the second reboot. Also I know you can flash splashscreens and recoveries via Terminal Emulator but I am not sure about the boot.img. From what I am do know about Android I am thinking you probably can not but it is worth a Google search.
Ok, so I downloaded the Elegancia Pegasus, I went into 4ext recovery, did a super wipe, turned on smart flash, installed the rom zip, did not reboot but enabled smart flash again, and then installed the rom again..(reason for this was I was thinking maybe it installed a new 4ext)..I really dont think it did though, but still stuck at the white htc screen...I may have to just do this from a computer...weird thing is that Elegancia sense 4.x 3.1.0 flashes just fine, but i imagine thats because that Boot.img is not getting written over by the pegasus one..any other ideas?...the ext recovery I am using is the stable most current release btw..thanks everyone...Dirtylarry

Thats strange, the old driver is working then but not the new one. Normally that would have something to do with the module not getting loaded or something, but on a fresh, unmodified fallout 5.0 installation it should work. How are you doing the full wipe?

I mean, are the /data and /system partitions both being wiped?
Edit: And you're not flashing any mods or kernels separately?

WiFi and Hotspot not working
I got the same issue.
However, the problem occurs when i restart the handset. Each time I restart the kernel changes to Kernel: 3.0.16-g62a67df [email protected]#PREEMPT.
lowveld also thinks this might be the problem.
Can any one help? i do not have the PG88 thing on my SD card. why is the kernel changing automatically when i restart?
Figured out my problem. I used fastboot boot boot.IMG which is wrong the correct command is fastboot flash boot boot.IMG. WiFi and hotspot is working like a charm with fallout ver 5
Hope this might help someone else
I would like to appriciate lowveld for his awesome Rom and his support

Which kernel are you using?
Based on some searching and lowveld this issue might be caused by old ones.
I used this one:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1845039
It worked for me

Don't forget to flash the boot.img again after you install the kernel. Some boot.img can be found in the kernel folder of the zip

Shut down the phone. Remove your SIM. Power it on and try WiFi. If works that you will be one the unfortunate users with country code issues (more info here)
If it is not the case I suggest to to da full wipe using 4EXT Recovery and install everything again.

I'm still s on and htcdev unlocked but able use 4ext recovery without any problem. Try to download the 4ext recovery again and flash it using fastboot. Download recovery from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377745.
After flashing the recovery do the whole full wipe, boot.img flash etc all over again.
Best of luck!
