Hi there
I'm looking to buy one of these and assumed that as there's an XBMC apk is available, I'd be able to install it onto the tab. I think I'm wrong
I'm a noob at android, I admit it. I installed XBMC on the family iPad before and I'm usually good at learning quickly but android is very different and over the last few days I've really tried to learn everything possible and just need some answers.
Apparently these tabs are not 'neon' (whatever that means?) but the Tab 2 7.0's are so I downloaded this in preparation of buying the 10.1. Is this right?
http://xbmc-android....c29df60974d.apk
Will I be able to use XBMC on the tab? Are these tabs powerful enough to stream large videos online?
Any help will be so much appreciated, I can't explain! Thank you so much
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1813089
I tried it on my SGT2 7 3113 ages ago , was very buggy but I'm sure its a lot better now. Not really sure if your tab is supported or not ? The link above is for the XDA thread , Im sure the devs will give you a definitive answer and all the advice you could ever need. :good:
EDIT :
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (GT-P7500) ? : http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Android_hardware
Xbmc does not yet support hardware decoding under android, so a large majority of videos will not playback well.

Thank you both for your replies. Much appreciated.
Sean, I check that thread and posted in there. I got some indication from them too. Apparently these *are* in fact 'Neon', but I can try both non and neon to test them.
The model I was going to get is GT-P5110.
Thank you for your time to reply to someone who hardly has a clue. I'm learning Appreciate it.
You will be greatly disappointed for the performance.
It hiccups like no tomorrow even with VGA (SD) TV while I have no problem playing it on Galaxy Tab Plus and S3.
I think GTab 2 has problem with stock kernel (got no more than 3000 on Quadrant and 2D is terrible). Playing Angry Birds has hiccup too.

Hey Guys, I don't know if I posted this in the right place
I just want to ask you all,
Should I buy the Asus Transformer Ft101 or wait for the prime to drop its price !
I don't have any tablet but I have experience with android .
Is the only difference between those two the tegra 2 vs 3 processor ?
Is ICS coming soon to this tablet ?
Thank you all for the advice . And sorry admins if I put this thread in the wrong section ;-)
Ics is supposed to be out this month for tf101. Prime and its dock r both slimmer which means u lose one usb port. Some have reported wify issues with the prime. I have a tf101 and its great, no issues here.

Avoid the Prime, it has too many problems. (No GPS, Wifi and Bluetooth issues, only mono audio, etc.)
The TF101 is a much better deal, so long as you're willing to wait a while for ICS to come out.
So many "should I buy a TF101" threads. None of them in the Q&A forum either. hmmmm
I guess you should figure it out your self i mean
do you like playing games and stuff
or just browsing the web?
I would buy the TF101... Not really impressed by the Prime, and the Tegra3 SoC seem to be a benefit only to graphic demanding apps (or games ). I would be better to pack some more RAM on it... (IMO: I don't care to see true 1080p HD movies on a 10 inch screen... for that i have a 32 inch TV, and for videogames... not until they all have some sort of game pad support, like GTA3. So the Tegra2 SoC does the job i need more than fine).
For the price and the bugs the Prime is experiencing i would buy today a TF101 if i didn't add one already .
Hey guys, thanks for the advice, I just bought an FT101 with the dock . And as you can see I also bought my first App = XDA Premium :-D Love this app ;-) also I had installed the Revolution HD Rom . I want to use it as my main "Netbook" . Till this oment I had just 2 crashes with this ROM ;-) .......

There are several similar threads in other device forums so I thought why not start one here. If the mods think this is in the wrong section or a bad idea please delete.
We can also use this thread for the development of XBMC for Transformer if anyone is up to making a Transformer specific build.
Okay so as of the time of this posting there is no "Transformer XBMC" specific version so I'm using one of the generic builds. "xbmcapp-armeabi-v7a-debug-20120714.apk" is the name of the one I found. Link
Works:
Nothing - It crashes back to home screen after launching.
Bugs:
That's it for now. I'll keep monitoring this thread and post updates to the OP if possible.
I should note that this same apk works for my Galaxy S3 and my wifes EVO 4g with little to NO problems.
Same problem here, works on galaxy note and tab 10.1, transformer simply dies on launch...

It's not a bad idea but should be in apps and not development. Seeing there is no development just bug reports.

@bkmo - Good point. Can a mod please move this to the correct section? Thanks.
As far as development goes I was hoping that maybe we could use this thread to attempt to compile xbmc from source for Transformer. I've compiled on other platforms before but I have no experience with Android.
Anyway maybe an actual developer would be better suited to post a thread on xbmc development.
Check General section i had already started a thread for XBMC on TF101 maybe we can continue there

according the the xbmc wiki http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=XBMC_for_Android_specific_FAQ#Installing.2Fgetting_XBMC_for_Android tegra2 devices will not be supported.
NOOOOOOO!
It works perfectly on my Rezound and my friend said it works on his TF201 but looks horrible.
It doesn't work because the Tegra 2 doesn't support Neon instruction set. The chances of it ever working on a Tegra 2 are slim to none.
That news is a bummer...

Its quite sad but I personally i dont think id have much use for it on my tf. Im running XBMC on my original xbox and I dont think you could get a better inexpensive media centre
You definitely can and it's a Raspberry Pi with Android or Linux The original Xbox doesn't seem to support anything higher than 480 because the processor can't handle the load, I've tried.

Yeah and you can't even find them anywhere. I've been on the official list for months. I have 3 original xbox's at home running XBMC but for all my HD media I have several apple TV 2's running XBMC. It rocks!
I can think of several applications for running XBMC on my transformer. For one, my kids can watch all my HD media from my local server rather than deal with Netflix's crappy lack of selection.
Check out this kickstarter project: Equiso smart TV. I'm thinking of pledging for one and hopefully XMBC will run on it.
Works great on HTC one X. I was able to download video add-ons, get weather etc. Only issue I had was tiny keyboard, had to use a touch pen. I have big hands lol.

I've been reading a lot about the Note 10.1. Frankly, tablets are a luxury for me as I already have a decent desktop at home, and don't really like carrying more stuff than I absolutely need, when commuting 2 hours back and forth every day. And I already have the Note 5.3, which frankly is a little over rated for its s-pen integration.
But now I want the tablet, thanks to all the marvelous reviews and comments I've seen! One burning question which I have is games. I'm not a heavy gamer but there's one game which I really liked on the S2, which doesn't work on the Note: Adventures of Tintin. Can someone confirm whether this game can be installed and played in the gorgeous mode? Rather than the laughably ugly 2D mode?
Another question: how good is video editing on this tablet? I'm asking this in behalf of someone who's considering getting an ipad with imovie (spelling?).
Lastly, is it easy to create or edit powerpoint slides with the Note? Its fiddly on my phone, but I imagine it to be much better on a larger device.
TIA!
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-devers app
I downloaded it to my Note 5.3, backed it up and side loaded it to the Note and it comes up saying, device is not compatible with this game. Please request a refund. So it would seem it doesn't work on the Note 10.1
TS
Of course you can create or edit powerpoint as you like and its better on device have a big screen like Note 10.0 , and it come with Polaris Office preinstalled app , more easy

Thanks for the replies. I'm kind of sad about Tintin not working on the 10.1. May I know of it runs in the"gorgeous" mode on your 5.3?
Yeah, you're right about editing ppts, it should be a lot easier on a larger screen.
Now I'm just waiting for thoughts about video editing.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
Wow, that Tintin game downloaded over 830MB of data into the phone to even play.
anyway, I honestly can't tell if it is in gorgeous mode. I don''t see any mode setting anywhere. It looks like it is. lol

Hi! I'm also looking for a native build of Ubuntu for the Galaxy Note 10.1 but what I wanna ask you is the performance of chroot. Are you able to type in LibreOffice without a lag? I'm one click away from ordering a device and I really need a full office suite for educational reasons (I'm a student).
What is more, my own hopes are about another way of getting better Ubuntu. The project you use (linux on android) aims to have native video output for some devices and it might be really better than a fully native Ubuntu. The GUI will be fast but at the same time Android will stay one click away with full support etc. What do you think?
hi there,
im a student too. my aim was to buy the TF300T at first. then when i went to the shop, the staff told me that the TF300T batch was full of returns because it was pretty sh**ty So i decided to buy the N8010 (Galaxy Note 10.1)
which is really better than the transformer because it has 2gb ram all the other cool features.like s pen and all that. i wanted to buy the transformer because it came with the keyboard dock which you can turn it into sorta netbook then i could take it to school or something. i was planning on installing ubuntu on it but ye.
so when i got this galaxy note 10.1, i rooted it and ran ubuntu like mentioned about. honestly, there is a slight lag but its not that extreme. only like milisecond(s) lag. *no other apps were running except for terminal emulator, vnc viewer and complete linux installer.
i think this is capable of doing more because literally ran a minecraft server in there LOL it loaded up pretty fast. but i havent connected into it and played yet. youtube video is working. which means it has flash support. my screen protector should arrive today so i can play around more with it. i'll load up ubuntu again. post some screen shots and maybe a video if u need one
the resources manages shows all four cores in the cpu and shows 1.8* of ram. which is good. and more than 1.2gb was available when i was running the office suite that was there.
Summary:
This is good for a start, im hoping to see developers start working on Galaxy Note 10.1 more and more. (i think its just this is still new cuz it only came out recently)
This device is really good for school. Snote app has so many features infact the device has 'samsung features' which i still havent touched on
Hoping to see some thirdparty keyboard docks for this since the samsung one is about 90-100 dollars (USD) i believe and about about 120-150dollars here in australia :/
I think the reason for the transformer pad to have native support cuz asus gave out the source code on their website ? *once i was in there website and it told me to choose the OS between android and other os*
which i belive u can install another os pretty much.
asus also had kinda a bios sorta menu when u boot it up.
hope that helps
if u wanna know anything else, simply reply

In the case of Transformers, ASUS had open-sourced the bootloader and it was capable of booting something different than Android from scratch. That's a different story for Samsung GN 10.1, but we have a chance for native build since Samsung is developing drivers for the Exynos platform and more or less the bootloader they have is open-sourced or cracked.
As for the OFFTOPIC about learning, thank you a lot for your reply! If you can post a video of LibreOffice typing experience, it would be nice but there are a lot on YouTube already and impression is more important than videos. Personally, I have used on other N-trig tablets LectureNotes (non-free app from market) and Quill(fully open-source) and I find them many times better than S Note.
BTW, once Canonical should release the Ubuntu for Android official project, m?
I think I'll buy one SGN and join you in the battle for better software
I made a video of it
hey,
I made a video of it last night... its in Full HD but dsnt have my voice.(has background music) im still getting used to making videos and putting it up on youtube :
I'll start uploading it now.. theres about 1.01GB so might take some hours to upload
I was watching that video on XDA TV, about Samsung hating XDA, apparently samsung limiting their source codes and all that...I dunno whats gonna happen
anyway wish this was like the asus transformer where you can run other os
we just have to hope for the best :fingers-crossed:
Yes im waiting till ubuntu releases the version for android ! i've seen their official video and its really awesome
Niceee when are you going to buy it ?
P.S. oh sh**t i'm sorry, it wasn't libre office it was open office since i had downloaded ubuntu 10.1 not 12
im pretty sure it would be the same experience with typing...
:fingers-crossed:hoping more people will buy SGN 10.1 and devs will start working on it:fingers-crossed:

What's your upload speed? I want to see the lag and then go to the store, so I'm waiting for your video.
Have seen two guys with SGN in the tram on the way to university, so the popularity comes very fast to the device.
Hello,
Im sorry to tell u this but something went wrong with youtube and it said the video was deleted :S
so im uploading it again. I faxed google and sent them a email but no reply. so uploading again.
upload speed is like 0.40mbps (speedtest) and ye
Its nice to see that its getting popular
Video
May be it would be faster not to upload Full HD? Otherwise, you will be uploading 1 gig my whole life
dam, im sorry
its 41% and about 311 mins remaining..
I'll see if i can let you stream the video from my pc, that way its easier
sorry again....
Hopefully this upload doesnt fail and if it does (hope it doesnt) but if it does i'll upload low quality..

Hello,
If you want to root the Stock ICS XSA for N8010, you will have to download the firmware from : http://www.hotfile.com/dl/177420056/592b6c1/N8010XWALI6_N8010XSAALI1_XSA.zip.html and root it your self.
I have attached the rooting files (thanks to zedomax ) and extract the files to a folder. and follow zedomax's instructions.
Hope this helps...
BUT this will not get rid of the Samsung user interface. If you want to get rid of the STOCK SAMSUNG STUFF, you will have to consider flashing CM10
I wrote a tutorial here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1958621
thumbs up!
Great news for tablet owners. Ubuntu will support Nexus 7. So Tegra 3 devices first and maybe Exinox later...
I really hope Team Hacksung will jump into this and make out tablet the best device ever. It will be much better then any W8 RT device because of Ubuntu ARM repositories, lots and lots of app (Libre Office, Gimp, VLC..etc).
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Nexus7
Wow thanks for this info im looking forward for ubuntu to be come available on my galaxy note 10.1
Any update on this? That is a real shame no one ported Ubuntu to Note 10.1 when there is Ubuntu running even of Asus Transformer TF101. Lack of drivers?
I dont really know honestly. Its just maybe the devs arnt putting much attention to this... WHY ? i dont know. its a great device. better that transformer pad TF300T.... its new.. and 2gb ram and all that. can handle ubuntu very well i suppose. even the nexus 7 got native from Ubuntu officially.. comeon devs!!!

It would be better if there was a native distro of Ubuntu for this. Ubuntu running on top of android maybe laggy (with your requirements). I still dont understand why developers arnt looking into this If u have a good internet connection at home you can use Splashtop to stream your pc into the tablet. all the touch features work. Its free for local use but if u want to use it remotely (pc at home and tablet at workplace) theres a membership for it.

I've been trying to root my Kindle Fire without success for several days as well as my Galaxy 4 tablet, and it is just too much to deal with for a couple of tablets.
However, I've decided I do want a rooted tablet, something without all the bloatware and that isn't tracking every search I do or order I make to Amazon, or even an email I send to my doctor for all I know. So I 'm asking for help deciding what to buy, as you guys all know way more than I do about this stuff.
What is the best tablet to own if you want a rooted device? I'll be using it for gaming (Clash of Clans, nothing to graphic intensive) and the standard things like watching YouTube videos or maybe a movie on Netflix.
I kneel before the great android sages and ask for your guidance. What tablet would you buy if you wanted a quality device that was easy to root?
Thank you!
