[Q]Keep changes to audio hardware. - General Questions and Answers

I need help reviewing my logs to find out what change I need to keep. I rooted my device(HTC One V) and for some reason the audio drivers were changed and now sound like crap. I have NEVER found a fix for this(if one could be suggested I'd be incredibly grateful). I did, however, while using the app "Sensor Music Player" notice that when I changed the app's settings to "pocket mode"(slapping pocket changes song) the audio drivers were changed and the music sounded waaay better(got my bass back!). Now every time the app closes the audio drivers are switched back and any other sound returns to sounding bad.
Long story short, I want to permanently change the audio hardware to use these settings; in turn making my sound better.

when you say "All this will use no more power than any Android device does on default settings, as all of the pertinent sensors are already on all the time." , I'm kinda skeptical.
My proximity sensor is not on all the time, it's only turned on during a call.
You shouldnt be - just use spare parts or whatever and you will find that Killswitch has used almost zero resources.
I made this app for myself originally and i have it on 3 devices. None of them are having battery problems.

don't get me wrong, i'm not saying that Killswitch uses a lot of battery, i'm just saying your statement "All this will use no more power than any Android device does on default settings, as all of the pertinent sensors are already on all the time." is not really true because I know that at least 1 sensor, which is the proximity sensor, is not on all the time, even on default settings.
The proximity sensor uses almost no power. But youre right - ive removed the offending line!
Nooby question here- Would this work with phones? I have a nexus s with a flip case, would be pretty cool

My friend has a Blackberry Bold and whenever he takes it out on the leather case it automatically went on (the screen) and putting it back on the case will make screen off, is this the same principle as what you saying here?

Great program! just tried the free version and works very well on hd2 + original flip cover, but I found a bug: I set extafunction-> No-lock to "unlock on screen activation" and I set an alarm in default sense clock settings, then I left the screen to turn off and I waited.... the result is an endless unstoppable alarm! The only way to stop it is to shoutdown the phone!

Ok, thanks. I've done some more testing...deleted some apps I've installed recently, but I still can't get a handle on what's wrong. This seems to be the trend: I uninstall Killswitch, reboot and reinstall. I setup Killswitch as I said before with both proximity and acceleration ticked. Both sensors function properly just as I expect them to--even the proximity sensor works when I holster the phone. However, within 5-10 minutes both sensors stop doing what they're supposed to.
At this point, if I uncheck proximity, then acceleration will always work. But if I leave proximity checked, and uncheck acceleration, then proximity works to a point (if I put my finger on the sensor, it works, but holstering no longer works).
I really want this to work for me, because I constantly use it. Here are two separate logcats--the first is with Killswitch operating properly, the second logcat is during the problem. Can you help please?

Plugging and unplugging ac power seems to be the issue. When I have it plugged in to my USB or wall outlet, killswitch works every time. As soon as I unplug it, it stops working. When I plug it back in, it continues to work (without any modification to the Killswitch settings). It seems the only time Killswitch works as advertised is when I have a fresh install of Killswitch. Then after a few minutes, it stops working until I connect the phone to ac power. I sure appreciate your involvement--thank you!

I'm wondering how much power changes (ac to dc or dc to ac) has to do with it, because every time I change power, killswitch functionality changes.
Also, even though I have "turn off lockscreen" enabled, the phone sometimes returns to a lock state when i press a hardware key to turn on the phone. HTC Sense?

umm.. I don't know.. But I don't think so... I think that must be determinate by the graphic card and the screen.. If that it is the resolution of the screen... it not have sense try to display another thing...
I think in these kind of device, not have enough graphical power to can rescale it! and if it do.. screen can't show it, right?
Just an idea...

No, it don't work like that, the lcd have that resolution, but the camera optic sensor have 5mp (2560x1520) pixels and the gpu (graphic cpu) that is done by main processor which is 1ghz with 512mb of ram and is one of the best single core ARM.
My previous phone had 600mhz processor with 256mb of ram, was much slower than this good phone and it recorded in 720p mode.
This phone is capable of a so good HD video.
If it was like that the camera would take photos only with 800x480p which is the phone lcd resolution
Edit: you have camera like nikon D3100 which have a 1080p video capture and its lcd has a small resolution

Of course reescale it is a reality... but in device are desing for that... like a LCD camera, where a chip, reescale the image and fit it to the screen resolution, right?
But In Smartphone hardware i dont know how it works...

To compile for the real device I want the Device Tree structure for Huawei U8818 like what we have in AndroidICSSource/device/samsung/toro

1. Backup build.prop
2. ro.product.model=—-> Change this to: Galaxy Nexus
3. ro.product.brand=—— > Change this to: Google
4. Save and see if it works.

hey guys .. remove the original gallery.apk from system apps .. and copy this directly in that folder .. it should work.. i dont have this phone anymore .. but i do have a nexus now and thats how ppl der got it to work .. try it may b it helps

I can confirm that. There is now 2 Gallery apps and both are working. Kernel 3.0.52 doesn't support camera yet, so i can't test that.
Have you fixed the problem?
Concerning bugs
Hi guys,
maybe the developers are chasing shadows. The problem seems to lay in the original source code. Have a look on the bug-collection of Android 4.2 summarized by Android-Police.

I think there are no bugs. At least the 4.2 Gallery App WORKS on kernel 3.0.52. I have not found two camera apps yet, but there are TWO gallery apps and the both are working.
Gallery is working but the camera is not...
I used fully pack of 4.2 that include bootanimation-fonts-sounds-keyboard-apps-camera-launcher-....

[Q] How to build android without audio support?

I'm trying to develop an android-based kiosk device. A requirement is that it needs to play video files without audio. This is not a case of muting the volume. There is no audio codec (hardware) on the device.
I tried running the following command to play a video file in android,
am start -a android.intent.action.VIEW -d "file:////sdcard/Movies/trailer.3gp" -t "video/*"
And an error comes up saying something like "video file cannot be played".

The above leads me to believe that the audio service, due to not finding hardware results in the video not being shown. Does anyone know how I could build AOSP without the android audio service running?
I suspect that this is a matter of deleting something in the "init.rc" file, but I'm not sure exactly what to do.

Took me awhile to find a solution. But following the advice here,

I was able to disable the audio service in android and get my movies playing.

Error 80001000 is OMX-speak for 'out of resources', and this story is corroborated by the fact that it works for a few videos (5-10 or so) after a reboot. It thus looks like there's some improper resource management going on at the GPU side when it comes to H/W acceleration, in that it probably doesn't release some memory when it finishes playing and therefore runs out of memory after a few video files.
Is this a known issue with CM 10.1? Is there any known fix? (e.g. updated userspace libs?)
Edit: it's not just CM, also other roms, in my current case SlimKat.

Bump. I switched to SlimKat to see if the newer Android version would resolve the problem. It does not: after an uptime of approximately a month, attempting to play a h264 video in MXPlayer shows that about six OMX buffers had already been allocated, and that there are no more resources for one more. It looks like something - the ducati firmware, I presume? - is seriously screwing up OMX memory management. Am I genuinely alone in these issues?
