Headphones plugged in, still getting notifications over speaker - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Is this just a touchwiz issue? Is there an app that will stop the sound from going over the speaker? I assume the people at work are getting sick of hearing the whistle when I get a text or an update on words with friends. I love being able to hear them over my headphones, just want them to not go out over the speaker at the same time.
Just rooted, no other tweaking.

I'm going to be the guy who bumps my own thread. Hoping someone missed it who might have a solution. I have tasker but stink at making profiles.

Just in case anyone else has this problem. This app solved the issue. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.woodslink.android.wiredheadphoneroutingfix&hl=en

Tried that and it did not work but thank you for the response.
Clean your proxy sensor, your face may be pressing it while you talk. Can of air in speaker will do the trick.
If I helped you in any way please use the thank you button.
Mine too
Mine was doing this too for a couple of days...It has stopped now, I don't know ehy it started and don't know why it stopped. But I'm glad it did!

When you look in the settings, do you have different ringtones and notifications sounds listed as options, or do you only see 'silent'?

yes. in the ringtones and in the notifications, it has all the sounds there. just when i select the sound to preview it, no sound. The phone volume is up. so i know there should be sound. Also the vibrate works. so when a call comes in the phone cal still vibrate. thats how i know im getting a call. And I can use the phone as regular.
Airplane mode maybe? I don't know...sounds like your notification volume is all the way down in your sound / volume settings, but you probably already checked that.

Yeah, I don't like it when things are quirky, either. Have you tried doing a factory data reset?
I was watching a you tube video and the sound became choppy. I thought it was a bad video, so I went to another. I had no sound. Started checking things on my phone, and nothing. I rebooted, reflashed my rom, flashed back to stock, and nothing still... SOUNDS ARE GONE. Volume is turned all the way up. I am running beautiful sgs4g (GB 2.3.5). I flashed to the new official 2.3.6. I also did a factory restore, and wiped data/dalvik cache in the process of doing all this. Is there any fix for this?

Out of curiosity, do you hear sounds if you use headphones?
It might be the external speaker. I was listening to music cause I didn't have earbuds with me. Sound started to crackle and break up. I figured music player was malfunctioning. After some troubleshooting, called T-Mobile. Apparently it is a known hardware issue and covered by warranty. I don't have insurance on my phone, they replaced it for a $25 fee.

Why did they charge you $25? If it is a known hardware issue and covered under warranty, they should have just sent it in and had it fixed for free, or you should've contact samsung directly, and the repair would have been free.

My Samsung Captivate Stopped Ringing....HELP

Ok, my Samsung Captivate stopped ringing when someone is trying to call me. And I can't hear anything when I put it on 'speaker phone'.
It looks like the speaker phone (in the back is dead)? Yes, I've checked many times to make sure the call volume is on at the highest setting.
And I can no longer hear any sound when playing game or listening to music/video.
Is there a way to fix this?
Thanks

Lots of people have had success with just pushing the speaker down with their thumb, but I had to take the phone apart and mess with a connection for a permanent fix. Search this site for speaker fixes.
Thanks guys. I push the speaker down a few times and it seems to work now.

Notification sounds don't shut off

Anyone else have this problem? Can't imagine I'm missing a setting.... Mute generally means mute.
According the this screen shot all sound should be off, correct. Dumb question but I want to make sure I'm not missing something.

Audio manager from the play store effectively shuts the sound off if anyone else has this problem.

Samsung wants me to send the phone in to fix this but I'm not sure being without a phone for a week or more is worth. Plus, I'm pretty sure if I install a custom ROM this problem will disappear. I'm frustrated, this is a stupid easy problem to fix (with an app) but a BRAND NEW phone should not have this problem to begin with. I wonder if I flashed the stock rom on top of the stock rom (lol) if that would work? Only one other person has this problem?
factory reset should fix your problem.

As a workaround you can choose "Silent" as your Notification sound.
If you only need this functionality at work for example look at Llama that will allow you to configure it very easy.

I've tried Llama before but really didn't look into it too far. Where I work is only about 3 miles from my house so I'm bouncing off the same tower in both places..... Did not work too well with Llama. Can someone check if there volume shows the same as mine when set on mute? The only thing muting is the ring tone. Just curious...

I see the same thing if I set the phone for Silent mode.
There's all different notification sound settings in this phone, I've noticed - my email accounts have their own notification settings per account, messaging has its setting, etc.
Maybe Silent mode primarily silences ringtones and doesn't prevent separate apps from making sounds? Which types of notifications continue to make sounds?
- ooofest
All of them. Anything not set to silent (email, text, messaging, etc) makes a audible notification when the phone is set on mute. Also, when my phone is set on vibrate I also have audible notifications.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
From the User Manual, pg 124:
Use Silent modes to temporarily silence the sounds your
phone makes, except for media playback and alarms, or
replace them with vibration.

So, it doesn't seem to claim affecting your sounds beyond the ringer and maybe keypad noises or similar. Working as designed, it seems (not that I agree with their design, in this case).
- ooofest
To me that means it should silence notifications since it's not "media" or "alarm"? I'm just going to buy sound manager since it has more options anyway..... $2.99 to end my frustration with this

I would classify "alarm" as notifications, in trying to interpret their jargon for the context given.
Yeah, an app which can configure sounds across all your apps and settings seems best, here.
- ooofest
Appreciate you looking that up in the manual. I actually downloaded it after your post . I bought the app and set my work and mute profiles... Nice app. I know this is stupid thing to worry about but it gets frustrating when I get woke up or a notification goes off during a meeting. Silent on the sound manager app silences everything.

I know this is an old post but thanks for the tip. I was in class last night and someone was giving a speech and all of a sudden my phone starts whistling. I thought it was in mute, apparently the notifications were not. I'll give sound manager a try.

It should be stated more clearly, its a very dangerous bug.
>be at crowded coffee shop
>plug in my headphones and hit the play button.
>the music then starts playing on full blast from the speaker
>everybody turns around, looking at me
>they now know what lame music I listen to
>I yell "Why team acid? Why would you do this to me?"
>More people stare at me
>the spaghetti starts falling out of my pockets
>run home crying
I didn't notice that on CM9, but it certainly doesn't do it on Remics, which has voodoo sound built in, plus installing Awesome Beats, you have a bunch of different sound config options. I love the headphone amp on Voodoo, can crack your headphones where they are actually loud.
Never had this problem occur to me.
Voodoo sound to my knowledge remains broken on ICS ROM's. The analogue volume slider breaks after making or receiving a phone call. Plus the sound quality is not up to par with voodoo working correctly on GB ROM's. This was recently noted and discussed in Raver's ICS Audiophile thread where several logcats where submitted documenting the problem. It's possible that the speaker issue is related. I think you'll find that if you reboot your phone then the speaker will mute when you plug in headphones, until you place or get a call and then it will act up again. If you want to use the hardware EQ's on the Wolfson dac's a la voodoo sound (highest headroom /lowest noise floor by far), over a third party software EQ like....well everything else, you're limited to GB or Froyo ROM's right now

I have no pity on anybody that doesnt test things before leaving the house.
Now if the sound is full volume then that is a different bug.
Currently its jusst loud enought you can hear it but not understand it.
