I just recently bought a Seagate Momentus XT 750 GB Hybrid Drive. I decided to clone all my data from my older WD Scorpio Black 750 GB. After I finished cloning, I tried to boot up the hybrid drive but keep getting a "Missing Operating System" error. I've already attempted to use Windows startup repair, it does detect a problem, but it is unable to automatically repair the issue. I cloned the original HDD using Macrium Reflect.
I read online that the problem might be caused by the BIOS trying to boot off the SSD portion of the hard drive which at this moment is probably blank. However I plug this HDD into another computer as a secondary drive, Windows can still read all the partitions on that drive. The BIOS in my laptop is up to date. I'm running an Alienware M14x R1 BIOS revision A08. Any suggestions? Thanks!
This might be a problem of the bootsec.Have you edited the boot.ini ? I do not know the name of the commandline tool from w7 for that at the moment but i had nearly same problem.

I'm not sure, but I think my boot.ini file is correct. It matches and is an exact copy of the original boot.ini. Unless I'm supposed to adjust it for the hybrid SSD drive? I heard from others that the MBR might be corrupted but I tried using EaseUS partition manager to rebuild the MBR but it seemed to have no effect.
Update: I got it working. I just used a different program to do the clone. Instead of macrium reflect, I used easeus cloning software. It was a bootable image that cloned the hdd before boot which might've made the difference since macrium clones while the os is running.

Dear XDA Community,
I would like to recovery a file i accidently deleted on my Transformer Internal Storage (Not Micro SD). When I plug the device to the PC it would mount the device using the MTP drivers so I do not get a regular USB drive but instead a "Portable Devices" A, hence I am not able to recovery any files as all the dat/file recovery program does not recognice the device as a disk drive.
If someone could be so kind and help me with some solution I would be extremely grateful. The problem would be sorted if either we can get the transformer to connect as a usb device with a regular drive, or a data/file recovery program does recognise the transformer and let me looks through the deleted files.
Kind regards,
Hamps*
Hello,
I am interested in this functionality too. Has anybody any information about how to achieve this?
Thank you very much.
Regars!
Afaik, it is not possible, because the file system used by the internal memory is not NTFS/FAT. (BTRFS, if I'm correct).

In the meantime did anyone find a solution for this?
You may try this android data recovery tool which works for android internal memory: android tablet data recovery
hope this helps.

On my TF the internal memory has an ext4 fs. I have not any experience in recovering Files from an ext4 but google seems to know some recovery tools for that.
The way to go would be to by dumping the complete media partition via nvflash. I'm not sure what the nvflash commands would be. I think it's 1.5 years since I did a dump. Make an additional copy of it and try some ext4 recovery tools on the dump files.
Using a Linux system you can directly mount the dump as loop device. I recommend installing a Linux system on a PC first and getting familiar with those recovery tools. Trying to do that on a Windows system will be a pain in the ... or maybe even impossible.
It is a lot of work and often it is much easier to use a backup which we all do regularly *cough*.
I have a 160 gb hard disk on my desktop with windows 7 and puppy linux installed today I wanted to extend the size of my c volume where both were installed, by mistake I converted my c partition to dynamic the os' s weren't booting up - boot mgr was missing, then I inserted my windows xp disc and when I was in the partition part I deleted one partition of 40 gb then it showed me 157gb unallocated space I have not installed windows now as I thought I have formatted my whole hard disk now please anyone suggest a way to recover the data on all other drives

Check with google
Backtrack or Kali Linux distributions will boot from USB or CD and come with tools for 'data recovery' that maybe able to help. If the data that you want to recover has been written over by other data; then things can be a little tougher. The best stuff for doing what I think you want to do is going to run in a terminal window not a GUI, so hopefully you're comfortable with the command line
Let me know if I need to be more specific and I'll see about adding better instructions, otherwise, google up some 'forensic data or drive recovery or imaging' software for one of the above suggested distributions and you should be able to recover the important stuff.

I'm back from helping someone else with something similar. Had an sdcard go out, saying "damaged sd" and here is how they recovered nearly all the data...
From Backtrack Linux...
dd was able to make a forensic image of the SD card, and testdisk was able to show and save unlinked files from the image file, so we were able to get all her photos and videos back!

The "unlinked" files when scrolling through should have the first two characters or letters messed up, and the link provided should have directions on how to recover lost data. The thing to do is "dd" as this will make a full copy of everything to another drive, this will alow you to try different methods of recovery on the copy without risking the original drive.
Hope you get it all back

Hello guys.
I just bought a brand new LG P760 (aka Optimus L90 , firmware 4.1.2. I have rooted it with Cydia Impactor. So far so good. I wanted to make my device install as default on SD card, so I started playing with Aparted from Google Play Store. I dont know exactly what I did, but i can tell you that I have attached 2 pics with the menu that I have interacted with. I made 2 partitions, PART: 1 has size of 1500 MB, PART: 2 has size of ~12000MB. I used ADB to make SDCard default storage device (db shell pm setInstallLocation 2) the restarted. After it has restarted, I tried to install something big from the Store, but it said that I had insuficient space. I tried to reverse PART1 with PART2, replace sizes I mean, but when I tried to delete PART2 it said that it is in use and I could not. After that, I started playing with the /dev/block/mmcblk0 and mmcblk1m, without knowing what they do. I tried to restart the device and... poof. It didn't. It is dead now. I tried all combinations of keys. The device is detected in windows as OMAP4430. I tried fastboot, it said ok but...it did not start. It doesn't start anymore. I have attached 2 pics with the program...
PLEASE HELP ME.
Just to clear up everything, is it your SD card that has been partitioned? And can you get to recovery at all?

Yes, it was my SD card that has been partitioned. I wanted to be able to install directly to it. It didn't work too well so I started messing up with those setting Aparted soft has... If it matters, it is a GoodRam 16GB Class 10.
That's a pretty good SD card xD have you tried placing you card into a pc!/ laptop card reader and formating completely, removing the partitions, formating again then re doing the partitions an installing on to SD.... May I also ask why you decided to do this?

Well...i tried, but had no luck. The reason ) is that wanted to install apps directly on SD card from the store, but in order to do so, i needed two partitions on the SD card, one smaller and one larger, the probles was that I made the smaller one bigger, and the bigger one smaller and needed to swap them, but one of them was is use, by the OS i presume, but i had flyies into my had and did ugly stuf...
Ahh right! Now that sucks, sorry I honestly wouldn't know what to suggest to you, maybe someone else could help ?

Hello,
my phone did not boot after flashing. The only thing I saw was a purple screen with an error message, so I connected my L40 to my Windows 8.1 computer. My PC recognized my mobile as a usb mass storage, but it was write protected. Stupidly I deleted the partition using disk part. That worked perfectly. I thought it would not matter if I deleted a partition. It was only a few kilobytes in size.
Unfortunately my phone did not boot anymore after that.
In the device manager, it' s shown up as qusb_bulk.
Is there any way to fix the issue, so my phone will be able to boot up again?
I sincerely appreciate all your help.

Try this thread, follow only the instructions, do not use files from that thread, find the equivalent files for your specific model number/firmware.

This all happened a long time ago, but I have these 2 lexar 128gb micro sd cards that are read only, everything I have thrown at them, windows, mac, android, it says read only, I'm about to throw them out but just wanted one last question about them specific to Android.
The chain of events I believe was, I put them in an ulefone paris (2015) chinese phone, before I rooted, it had some tweaks/malware garbage on the os, I tried to format as internal, it did something I didn't like, or it didn't work, but for whatever reason I took out, now they are unusable, read only. Later I rooted and put in regular android.
Can't format or do anything with them, tried windows, mac, official sd formatter, command line, all the usual tips but they give read only error and won't budge but they infuriatingly mount fine and show a bunch of android junk files (stuff that was on my phone Ig uess) everytime I plug in to my mac, but if I delete they come right back (makes sense because they're read only), I tried putting them back in the phone but since it's been rooted to normal marshmallow (I think I don't use it much), it too gave errors.
There is no adapter switch lock or anything, I plug them in through the usb device that came with them, although I have tried adapters set to unlock, and it didn't work.
Could the phone really have destroyed them both, they were brand new (way too old for any refund), I'm going to throw out but just wanted confirmation the phone wrecked them.
Try formatting the card with a different fille format like , ex4 or other, then rewert back to stock threw twrp of some windows formatting tool (freeware)

I only have a mac right now, but I'll try format to ext4, didn't try that.
