Yesterday i rooted my phone, using the all in one tool. My phone is still S-on i do have superSU installed. When i use the bootmenu from my Sensation i also can go to CWM recovery program. No heres my question will custom ROMS work using the install zip from SD card or will it not work because it is still S-ON.

Which firmware are you on? Did you update to Sense 3.6 + ICS with official update?
Did you unlock your bootloader through HTCDev ?
If you're on the latest firmware, flash the latest ext4 recovery. Before flashing a ICS / JB rom, on 4EXT, go to Tools - Enable Smartflash. You need this to flash custom roms with S-ON.
My sensation is S-ON and so far it's been a flawless feature. No need to flash kernels and boot.imgs through apt anymore
Thankz, i did the HTC dev unlock method and i have the latest official updates from HTC. i have flashed only the CWM image using the all in one tool for sensation. So if i understand you correctly i only have to flash the EXT4 image to the sensation which is part of the all in one tool for sensation. And i can install custom roms without using S-off?.

once you flash the 4ext recovery the all in one tool is no longer necessary
then from recovery go
tools
and at the bottom of the menu you will see the smartflash feature
enable it
after that go back
choose zip from sdcard
install zip from sdcard
thank you very much
Okay mow a little question how can i adjust my cpu frequenti (overclock) because the atuntu cpu master wont go further then 1188mhz.I found a zip file named Overclocked_kernel_v1.5.2_by_SebastianFM but when i want to install this file using the clockwork mod recovery it says that the installation failed.
Because i am trying to copy the url from xda app and i can' t do it ok then
Use the search and write(if your error is status 7)
Assert failed status 7 sensation
Download and flash the insecure.img
After that flash the kernel
Edit:it is better to install it with 4ext recovery

Everything went wll when installing the unsecure zipfile, it said it was okay. But when i installed the overclocked kernel it still keeps giving status 7 error.
Thats why i want to install the EXT4 recovery.

And if i want to go back from Custom to original all i have to do is place the original ROM on a SD card and instal it from EXT4 ??

Radio? flash? sorry for this question but im a bit confuse on what to do first after s-off until i flashed a cooked rom.. please do help me...
After root, firstly you flash a Recovery then you flash a Rom of your choice. Either with ROM Manager from the market or Manualy. You ll find more detailed instruction at the Recovery thread and the Rom thread.

As it's your first time (I'd suggest)
(although as with any advice that you read on here it is given with best intention only and not necessarily correct....do this at your own risk)
1)
S-off (if by XTC this will also perform factory reset of your device so ensure you've sync'ed/ backed up data first)
2)
Download and run ginger break (to get root (then reboot)
3)
download and install the free application rom manager from android market
4)
Use rom manager to flash CWM (very simple option and it will do it for you)
5)
Use rom manager (gui - very easy) or CWM to perform your first full (Nandroid) backup
6)
follow wipe instructions that come with the custom rom installations instructions that you're planning on installing, if installing LBC rom (personally I've suggest this one) then there is a specific wipe script to run
7)
Download and Install custom rom
good luck
You can update to ext4 recovery at a later time when all the above has worked

If he uses the original CWM to do a wipe he will end up with an ext3 partition.
Better off installing cwm through rom manager and booting into recovery and flashing ext4 recovery. Then backup rom and flash custom rom.

Sorry I'm a total noob on this. Btw, After the s-off process, alpharevx said if I want to install clockwork recovery, I typed "Y" then it says "downloading clockwork for saga" but after that nothing happens. It's just stuck there so I disconnected my device and rebooted it.
How can I install clockwork and how can I root my device? thanks

Thanks for the thread. I just went into RM and asked to flash the current recovery and that prompted me to choose the phone to flash and only the HTC Sensation was listed so that was easy peasy. I hit that, let RM flash the current recovery and during that the SU asked for root permission which I granted of course (this with the window to choose the phone was still up). When I noticed the background bar on top was done, I hit HTC Sensation in the pop up window again and it gave me a successful message.
I am now backing up my current ROM now (CoreDroid).

That is just an alternative to ClockworkMod recovery. Also I misunderstood your original question about the su-3.0 zip file.
You need to flash that type of zip file using a custom recovery such as CWM or EXT4. The Android Flasher is for flashing image files to a device, not zip files.
As said above, you need s off or unlocked hboot (via htcdev) to flash the recovery.img (out of clockwork mod or 4ext zip file) using android flasher.
Then boot into recovery and install zip from sd card and select the SU zip file, once installed you have superuser and are rooted
Right 1st off I have been looking into this for a few weeks now and have searched but I just want to be sure before I do actually do anything and potentially damage my phone. Also I did used to flash custom rims on my desire so I'm not completely new to this but am by no means a pro at it.
I have s-off using revolutionary but that's as far as I've gone and I didn't install custom recovery due to wanting to install the official ics update which is what I'm running now.
1st question is are there any preferred recoveries? I know on my desire there were a few to choose from which could affect being able to install certain Roms and also are there any issues using recovery now that I've update to ics?
2nd how would I go about flashing it? I read about downloading it to root of sd and flashing from stock recovery.
3rd I've seen that I apparently don't need root as a custom Rom comes pre rooted?
4th will the whole flashin a Rom proceedure be the same as what I'm used to e.g. boot into recovery backup current rom, wipe when needs then flash Rom and reboot. Also I've read about a super wipe what is this?
I think ill he ok with all this but I love this phone and don't want to cause any damage to it.
Any help would be appreciated. Thankyou

1. CWM or 4ext. Many prefer 4ext for the touch interface and additional options. You can download an updater for this from market, it will install it for you.
2. CWM Recovery can be flashed via the boot loader, it's exactly like updating the boot loader on your desire. You will also use this method to update your firmware - this is different to desire, it updates various parts including radio.
3&4 yes the same!

I would suggest 4EXT touch for recovery over ClockworkMod. There has been numerous reported cases in XDA threads with ROM installation issues using CWM. I myself have had issues with CWM and only recently changed to 4EXT recovery.

You cannot root if you don't install a custom recovery first.
You can download 4EXT recovery in PG58IMG from Here
Rename it only PG58IMG and put on the root of your sd card.
Reboot to bootloader (volume down + power button), at prompt if you want to update, say yes by pushing volume up.
let do its things and when finished push power button to reboot.
Delete PG58IMG from sd card when done (or each time you reboot bootloader it will ask to update).
Once installed, flash this zip from 4EXT recovery.
Then download from the market superuser and busybox to get root.
Hope it helps. Hit thanks if it did

What is your model id?
you can dowload terminal emulator from market and give this command "getprop ro.mid" (without quotes). This will give your model id. Inside the PG58IMG that you downloaded ther is android-info file and there you can change the mid accordingly.
think i might of sorted it. model i.d. walk pg5813001.
just wainting on it rebooting now, delete the file then boot recovery check its worked. make a backup and flash the su file. hopefully.

Basically I've managed to complete HTC Dev Unlock, then a few days later I lost Wi-Fi connection, so have been trying to continue with installing a Custom (or even the original) ROM in an attempt to fix it.
I've now done Junoptobear to get true S-OFF
Got root access
But cant get Clockwork Mod to install in Recovery...
I've installed ROMmanager Premium and used it to install the latest Clockwork Mod - it states its downloaded and completed but when I go to the bootloader and select Recovery it flashes the white HTC screen for a brief second then back to the bootloader.
I've tried to manually download the Clockwork Mod file and install to Recovery but I get the same issue.
Does anyone have any ideas?? Many thanks!
Hi there you can install 4ext recovery you can get the file here in xda or even from the play store. Many of us use 4ext because it has many options and is very easy to use.personally I prefer 4ext. All I did was download from the play store and opened the app follow directions choose version of recovery and it will flash from the application. I was already rooted and soff when I did it but it's very easy to do. I really think you will like 4 ext recovery. You already have s OFF and root so it should not be a problem. Best of luck to you. I hope this helps! As I mentioned most of us use 4 ext recovery and I doubt you will be disappointed. Good luck.
