I've been messing about with some theming on my dialer. I now have a HUGE amount of respect for anyone that does this on any level. Talk about a steep learning curve. btw anyone who starts doing this without a nandroid backup... don't!
I'm a bit confused with the whole Draw 9-patch thing, and how to make it work properly. I got the round corners to sort of behave, and tried to get the stretchable content correct, but that's proving a bit of an issue for me at the moment. I think with a bit more trial and error I might succeed.
Can someone please tell me where where the bottom content resides, ie the Phone / People Groups? I want to play around with the highlight color
kudos to zounduser for getting me thinking on this path. The blue call button in the screenshot is his.

That bottom bar resides in the skin you are using, if its the stock skin the it would be in the fusion apk
About the .9 pngs, I have the same issues with them. I try to avoid them in all honesty or if I can find some pre compiled one's in the color I need I use them

Ok, I worked out where I went wrong with the .9 pngs, I can deal with those now.
What I'm struggling to work out, even with quite a few guides out there, is the dependencies required to decompile some apks. For ex, I want to decompile the htcdialer.apk but I know it requires other resources. How the heck do I know, or discover what they are?

Hello everyone,
I'm skinning my keyboard and so for it looks good IMO, but I want to change the fonts.
Here is the photoshop PSD I made:

This is what is how it looks on the phone:
I want the upper light grey row(with 1, 2, 3 @, etc) to be entirely removed or invisible and the black text should move up some pixels and preferrably be in bold instead of regular.
The thing I want most is the upper grey row with alternative symbols removed, then I can edit my images to place them under the black qwerty.
I know how to edit the XML's but I have no idea where the data is stored and after which byte sequence.
I hope someone can enlighten me on this (ohsaka?).

There threads in the themes and wallpapers section of the forum about editing the keyboard.
I wonder where, beause search only showed up this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=512285&highlight=keyboard
which isn't what I'm looking for.
This thread should be moved to themes section..
However I appreciate the work you're doing
Hope you'll find the solution
Actually this is development because we're changing sources, not images...
I suggest modifying the google keyboard since sources are available. Look in resources/inputmethods/LatinIME

I think that the two keyboards are not comparable
Moreover Google one only supports English
damn can't wait for someone to help him on this!!
Been trying to figure this myself a while now. Wanting white text.
I know there is an older version of HTC_IME without the long presses, not sure if you can still find one somewhere, maybe off an early H build?
are you still workin on this project too
how do you get to edit the xml?
I'm kinda curious to see how a Google TV-like theme would look on CM6.1 -- I think it'd look awesome and Gingerbread probably has some similarities so it'd be a good theme to hold some of us over 'till CM gets to it. I'm pretty good at the graphic design thing but am always loaded with work so I usually start something on my free time and never finish...
Anyway, what I'm thinking is that I could make all the graphics files, I'd then pass it on to some one who can adjust the XML (pretty much only changing black text to white). I've done some detailed XML (spacing, color, etc) stuff before but it'd just give me a headache to go back into (trying to fix Sense's complete and utter fail at design does that to you...). I want to finish this over the weekend so it'd have to be someone who has experience and knowledge of a lot of the XML values (menus, pop ups, status bar, etc). If anyone is able and interested, just leave a reply.
The theme itself should be pretty easy to make, it'd look stock but dark w/ blue glow-ish highlights. For examples:

Some examples of my Android-y work to judge if its worth helping me:
Complete radio app remake. Will probably release soon.
Swype, part of a Sense face lift theme I was making before I moved to CM.
Just the dock and icons.
There is already an alternate themed skype found in tmobile's mytouch4g using a variant of htc sense. Although nice work there : )
I've taken it upon myself to AOSP-ize a Sense ROM in the most complete way possible. I've done pretty well so far but I seem to have hit a snag. I swiped the stock MMS app from CM6 and pasted it into myn no problem, but I can't for the life of me figure out why it's framing the black background in white:

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
It looks fine with the white background, but as soon as I switch to the dark the frame remains. I cycled through all the images for both my framework and the MMS app itself but I can't find anything... Thoughts? Am I missing something?
I'm not a Dev. But maybe it needs resized. Because it doesn't look like it's filling the screen

It looks like the background is set to white, with black and gray list items on top. The color setting is most likely in styles.xml or in one of the layout files.
I thought about that too knoc, but I don't think its the case because the text field stretches, and that's part of the app. I may be wrong though.
jj, I haven't played with xml files yet but ill give it a shot. Thanks.
Have you edited any .9.png files? if so you might want to check into those.

yep, looks like a draw9 patch bug to me too. something isn't stretching right.
So did you modify any xml's? Or are you just copying and paisting. The reason I ask is that by your description is sounds like the padding is all f'd up. I know there is a flashable zip that removes sense if you want that. You will have to check around on here to find it.
Alright, I have searched, and searched, and attempted, searched some more, tried a bunch of .apk's I've found from various threads, and nothing... Here's what I've concluded: (tell me if I'm right)
Any AOSP contacts.apk from any other ROM or CM6 will not work on the SK4G. I'm guessing this has to do with the fact that AOSP contacts.apk also handles the call log functionality (just a guess)?
So what I have to work with is the Touchwiz contacts.apk that someone (can't find who to credit) has themed AOSP. The problem here is that it has a -very- annoying bug: You can open it directly and it looks fine (see image 1), but then sometimes you can hit the back button and it looses the theme (see image 2), or you can open it through the dialer (phone.apk?) and it just doesn't have the theme at all. This is Very Annoying for me, looking to throw together a true-AOSP UI.
Flawless themes (can't spell "themeing") such as the dialertabactivity.apk, that works for all intents and purposes (even though it's not real) works for me, but I've now spent 2 days researching and trying to find a different .apk and I can't... Any suggestions? Any devs able to fix this? Anyone able to explain why the SK4G is SOO dependent on Touchwiz? I'm in no way a dev, I'm just a modder. This is pretty much just personal use for now, i figure I'd have to do something really epic for me to try to put out another rom.

um... why change it? does it really bother you that much, because all I can see that is any different is the little toolbar at the top...
Couldn't find one like this searching around so I replaced the digits myself on another apk to fit what I was looking for. Just place this straight in your "system/app" folder and you should be good to go.
No warranties....no customer service....it works on my SGSII running Task650 AOKP Build 39....should work for you too.
Added a no border and no side border version.
Enjoy.

I added a version with no borders and one with no side borders.
Mr dev sir reporting a bug

Oops.

But im no dev...i just figured out how to swap the numbers around.

Well man...I have gone back and checked and all the digits in the apk are correct...so im a little stumped on why your one digit is wrong..
I have been using the bordered one for the last couple days and haven't seen this problem. The only thing I can think of is maybe if the original apk is still in your system/app folder maybe there is some overlaping or something?
I removed the old file first...but I guess this is where the "im not a dev" part comes in...not sure what else to look at.
